Would like to give Zero stars but that is not an option. And not sure how this place gets any five star reviews. Nothing about my experience with this place has been positive. It took months to get an appointment for a regular eye exam. I arrived 20 minutes before my appointment to make sure I had time to fill out paperwork. Receptionists asked multiple times for personally identifiable information, out loud in a very crowded waiting room. I got to hear the full name and DOB of probably 20 patients along with a few SSNs while waiting. The waiting room was so crowded, it could easily be a super spreader event. Finally about 40 minutes after my appointment time, I was called back to a dingy exam room with some sort of assistant who dilated my eyes and did some exams that I've never had in 40 years of eye exams. Finally got put into an exam room and no less than 3 people walked in thinking the room was available. The doctor (or at least I think he was a doctor, no lab coat or ID) came in, asked the same questions the first person asked and then went away for another 10 minutes. Finally came back, did the exam and told me my eyes looked good (I have advanced macular degeneration). They prescribed new glasses and contacts and then sent me out to look at frames. They have a very limited selection but found a pair and sat down with the woman to discuss options in a very messy and unorganized area. Not sure how they keep track of anything. We are now almost 4 weeks past my exam and I do not have the contacts or glasses. I called 72 hours ago and was told the contact are custom order and should be in next week. The glasses were supposed to arrived the next day at 1 and she would call me ASAP to pick them up. No one has called. I went to 1-800Contacts and the "custom" order contacts shipped same day. Beware and if you have any advanced eye issues, go somewhere else. I can believe this place is allowed by the state to even stay in business. read more

Last Thursday I had an an appointment for a follow-up (i.e. more extensive) exam for glaucoma, since the ailment runs in my family. This appointment was made at the end of my first visit to the office in September. I had a horrible reaction to drops put in my eye. I assume it was the dilation drops, but it could have been the numbing drops put in 15 minutes prior. The reaction happened less than 5 minutes after the dilation drops and that's why I assume that's what caused it. It's how this played out afterwards that got me so angry. I was put in the "secondary" waiting room, where I doubled over, my eyes tearing up as if I had peeled 5 strong onions. It was painful, I couldn't see, and no one seemed to care. I went over to the receptionist and told her I was having a bad reaction. She sent me back into an exam room where a staffer flushed my eyes a couple of times, but that didn't help. I went back to that waiting room, where I sat, doubled over, with no one bothering to address the situation. Finally someone took me back to Dr. Grewal, before he was ready for me. He spent at least 5 minutes at a desk, not acknowledging I was there, typing away (he had just finished seeing another patient). He finally turned around, I explained what was happening, my head in my hand, and my RayBans on since the now-dilated eyes were making matters worse. He checked for scratches and didn't see any. "Just an irritation." I couldn't complete the exam, I went back to the waiting room, and waited nearly an hour for my ride, bent over, tearing up, in pain which got progressively worse. No one seemed to care. I got home, and crawled in bed, in pain for hours, until it all wore off. And it took an overnight sleep to wake up feeling normal. I was congested and lighted until then. Dr. Grewal did call to check on me but what else could I say to him. On Monday I called and left a message (they seldom answer directly), stating I wanted to know exactly what drops were used - pharma brands & ingredients of both drops. I also wanted to know more about what this "further" glaucoma exam entailed, and what I can expect should I return. NO CALL BACK on Monday. No call back Tuesday. No call back on Wednesday, so I called the again and left another, more terse message, and now on Thursday, STILL NO CALL BACK. I canceled my follow up appointment. I want to add that my husband and I experienced lots of confusion at Acuity during our first visits in September. They didn't have us down for a refractive exam for prescriptions; when i made the appointment, I said we hadn't been to the eye doctor since the early days of the pandemic and we both needed a full exam (for everything). We had to return the next day for refractive exam, and then experienced insurance confusion because optician A didn't communicate with optician B. Later, when discussing our exams, I learned my husband got a couple of extra tests that they neglected to give to me (e.g. the field of vision exam with the flashes of lights). So, this is my experience there. I'll be going elsewhere in the future. read more

My previous physician at Acuity moved to another state, and I was scheduled with Dr. Song, to follow up on last year's retinal tear and procedure to fix it. This place needs MAJOR training because they LACK COMMUNICATION SKILLS with patients and with their own employees! My son and I waited over 2hrs just to be told by the Doctor that he could not see my son for just a contact lense exam. Not ONLY did I specify my reason for the visit when I made the appointment, but I ALSO told the front desk about the reason for our visit, and we also gave back office the information. NONE of them told us that the doctor could not do it. This was the most unprofessional place I've ever been to, and that says a lot since I've worked in the medical field for over 15 years! Making any appointment during Covid is stressful enough. When you specifically ask the person making your appointment, if they schedule their appointments more efficiently due to Covid - so you aren't stuck in their waiting room for an hour - and they assure you they are - you book an appointment. The day before my appointment, I get a call telling me my insurance isn't valid - something that was CONFIRMED before I even scheduled my appointment. I give the person on the phone all my insurance information, and I am good to go. Or so I thought until I showed up for my appointment. Why on Earth would someone schedule an appointment and not have confirmed their insurance was accepted first? I show up 5 minutes early for my appointment - and the lobby is full. Really? So you took out a bunch of chairs, but you still have 12 people sitting in one room - pushing the envelope on actually being 6 feet apart. After waiting for over 10 minutes, one of the front desk staff tells me that they don't have my insurance - I don't even want to get into this hassle I went through. My problem is - right now, during a pandemic - WHY are you still over scheduling? WHY doesn't your staff wipe ANYTHING down? I sat there for over an hour watching people come and go - being handed pens used by other customers - never once was the front counter wiped down, not one chair was wiped down, never once saw a front desk person use hand sanitizer either. I was not the only person that got up and walked out that day. Sucks because I really need a new eye doctor that takes my insurance. read more

I took my mother here as per her request. She is now blind. But the staff thought she was there for glasses, the clerk charged her a 'co-pay' and wasn't supposed to, and no apology was offered. The doctor she saw treated her like she was just taking his time and became impatient with her when he had to repeat himself. I had a terrible experience at the Palm Springs location. My first visit, I waited over a half hour just to be seen. The doctor who was providing my eyeglass prescription was not personable and I felt like he just wanted me out of there as soon as possible. After receiving my glasses, the prescription was terrible. I gave it 2 weeks and couldn't take it anymore. I went back and waited over an hour until I final left out of frustration. The $300.00 I paid for a terrible prescription is not worth the frustration of going back to that office. i would never see that doctor again and the office manager should be fired for the horrible wait times and over scheduling appointments. I waited a month for this appointment today. Desert Oasis referred me. I have an RX from almost a year ago, before the pandemic from an eye doctor I liked very much who went out of business in March. Then the lockdowns started and I was never able to get my RX filled. It has been terrible. I am 72 and a college professor so my inability to see well has caused a terrible hardship and awful headaches. I get to Acuity a few minutes ahead of my appointment and the place is packed. People standing outside even. I realize they are grossly overbooked and it is going to be awhile. I tell my daughter to go shopping after we wait 20 minutes with no check in and come back in an hour. She leaves. They finally call me to the counter, look at my ID and tell me I am ineligible to be seen. Said they called me twice and told me this. What? The only communication I had was a text confirming my appointment yesterday. I tell the girl at the desk I have full coverage under my employer that I have never used, not just Desert Oasis so is she sure I have zero coverage? She insists, I have no coverage and they told me this. Then she says she'll email the insurer, so have a seat. I tell her I am not interested in waiting around a packed room on my feet while we wait for an insurance company to email her back. I go outside. Call my daughter who drives back to get me. I call my insurance company and they send me a link with a detailed text showing I am 100% covered for EVERYTHING...exam, glasses, you name it. This silly twit should lose her job and Acuity should be cut off from Desert Oasis for overbooking and incompetence. I have filed grievances every place possible. read more

I discovered I had to use this office because of my insurance HMO. My eyesight quickly diminished (cataracts?) this week and I called for an appointment. They made one and said they'd send an email with their location. The day of the appointment (5 days later) I realized they never sent their email with the address. I had to call quickly before I went to work, and they confirmed the afternoon appt. and said they'd send me the address. I had set up the office to cover my work and come time for me to leave they had not sent the email. I called. They HUNG UP ON ME TWICE. I called the corporate office AND THEY HUNG UP ON ME. So I did a little research and began calling all their offices in 100 miles, I found the office that had my appointment. They literally told me the computer said I confirmed. If you want to go to a provider and feel like you are in a cattle call and be treated like an assembly line, this is the place to go. I waited 30 min + after my appt. time to be called back. Once in the room, I was given the routine tests but then I was told they wanted to do the more "specialized" tests because the doctor wants them every time. I said no because they have already completed those tests twice this year. They shouldn't be doing these just to bill the insurance and, in my case, Medicare. Once I finally got to see the doctor, I expressed my concerns to him. His response was to not schedule me further. In other words, you complain, you are out. Not a good way to run a practice. But, since the waiting room is packed with elderly people who generally won't say anything, it makes sense that they do business like this. read more

My appointment was at 8:45am, they called my name 8:55am only 10 minutes of waiting, to me that's remarkable. I wish I could remember one of the staff, she was the one I was quite impressed with. Unfortunately I cannot recommend Acuity in Palm Springs. I believe they gave me the wrong prescription because everything is blurry with my new glasses. When I called for a re-exam they said I would have to pay because they have a 90 day policy of which I was not made aware of at the time of my appointment. Now I either have to pay for their mistake or wait another year before my insurance will pay for a correct eye exam. You would think they would want happy customers and would gladly welcome a re-examination but that is not the case at this facility. read more

Wow -What terrible customer service. I checked-in on time for my first appointment and was left sitting in the waiting area as literally a dozen other patients came in and were called back for their appointment. Some of them were already leaving when finally, after an hour, I went to the front desk and told them I wanted a refund and I was leaving. One of the front desk gals asked the other what happened and the first one replied "I'll tell you in a minute." Hey lady, how about telling ME what happened? I'm the customer, remember? No apology. Made an appointment online and confirmed the day before by phone. Arrived at my appointment ahead of time to complete paperwork although I wasn't asked to arrive early. Was kept waiting for 25 minutes before asking when would I be seen. A couple of minutes later I was taken into an office and told this would be a virtual appointment. I was never told this neither would I want to accept this. There were three optometrist's in the office but they weren't going to see me. I asked for my 9 pages of new patient documentation back and left the office 50 minutes after entering frustrated at such an inappropriate level of service and professionalism. I was in the office in Dec for a simple exam for new glasses. It was a very unpleasant assembly line. They asked me to fill out a length medical history but then no one asked to see it. I turned it in after completing the exam. So much for the professionalism of reviewing a patient's medical history as part of the example. In January, I want to order a pair of reading glasses using an online service. It turns out that the written prescription that I was given was not complete. State law requires the optometrist to give a copy of the prescription at the time of the exam. I've tried calling the office three times to resolve the issue but I'm getting no where. Avoid this practice if you want a basic exam and a pleasant experience ordering glasses. I regret choosing them. Brian read more

Run fast, away from this place. If you have a 9am appt be prepared to wait, wait and wait some more. Called in to see Tech at 9:19, as with her for a whole 3 mins., then sent to a different waiting area to wait some more for the doctor. Waited ANOTHER HOUR before being called for a room for doctor. In between was seen by Office Mgr since they didnt like my attitude for having to wait so long. IF my appt is at 9am I shouldnt have to wait til 1030am to see said doctor. Spent a whopping 7 mins with the doctor, that's it, didnt even do the glaucoma test which is usually included in yearly eye exam. Trying to check-out took another 5 mins of time. Tried getting kleenex from front desk but they said they didnt have any, and apparently they didnt have toilet paper either since bathroom was out of it as well. If you're going to have us gather like a cattle call, at least have your bathrooms and areas stocked with kleenex (since this is an eye doctor one would think kleenex would be everywhere since you hand them to us after putting drops in). LOOK ELSEWHERE! I have been going to Acuity Eye Group for two years and I have never had a good experience so I will be moving to a new provider. You will sit for hours. They operate like a conveyor belt, dragging you to one space after the next and then you have to wait again before you see the eye doctor which is done virtually. I waited 1.5 hours for my first visit and was told that one of their machines was broken. I had to reschedule and when I came back, they apparently lost my details so they had to redo everything that I did during my previous visit. My next visit a year later took nearly two hours to complete, and they told me they were going to order me trial contacts. It's been more than two weeks, so I am currently on the phone just to ask the status of my contacts. I have been on hold now for over one hour. If you want to be treated like cattle and want to wait around for hours, this is the place for you. UPDATE: While still on hold for an 1.25 hours, I tried dialing in using another phone. My call didn't make it through, but on the fifth attempt someone picked up. Something is seriously wrong with their operations. How can I be on hold still on one phone but then the staff would assist me on the other. When asked about the long wait time, the representative disregarded it and said that she was happy she was able to pick up the phone to help me. No explanation for the poor service. Lastly, it turns out my trial contacts have been there at the office, but no one had called me to let me know they were ready for pickup. read more

This is what I received upon my first visit to this office recently. Every person I came in contact with treated me with care and understanding. Dr. Merali was patient and listened to what I had to say, he was direct and matter of fact. I would definitely recommend this eye facility to anyone I know that is in need of an eye doctor. I have had excellent care of my eyes at Acuity, for the past three years. My problem is how many clients/patients are booked to arrive at the same time. It is a very busy place but when it is your turn you get plenty of attention. The office staff is very pleasant and they seem to take care of your even with a full busy lobby. read more
