I called Acura roofing last spring because I was trying to sell my house and the roof was just plain worn out. They called back quickly and since they were in the neighborhood working, they came over on their lunch break to take a look. Such an awesome start. We picked out shingles, the price was good, the schedule was a little longer than I had hoped, but I admit I was in a hurry and probably should have started this process sooner. No worries, it was still going to be finished 3 days before it went on the market. It'll be the shiniest roof buyers see all day. And it was a shiny roof. The work on the roof itself was gorgeous and done in a single day, the workers finished up at 8 pm. Unfortunately this is where the good story ends. Finishing up so late, it was pretty dark so I couldn't go outside to inspect the work done when they left. I wish I had gotten a big flashlight. So the next day comes, and by now I'm thinking it's *really weird* I haven't heard from *anyone* this entire time (I'm use to services calling me about mid-day just to say "hey, we're over here, things are good!" or just some sort of update). Well ok, I'm sure they'll pipe up to collect their money, so I'll just nu-ne-nu about my day. I end up working a bit late as does my husband, so we get home after hours, but with still enough light to see. And we are heartbroken. All along where my first story roof met up with the second story outer wall was ripped to absolute shreds. Gouging holes in the trim and the siding. Ok, so turns out tthe roof had a double layer that was shoved under the siding causing water to pool when it rained and the bottom bits of the siding were rotted as a result. So when they pulled out the old shingles, the siding just fell apart with it. And that sounds completely plausible and I totally understand that can happen. What kills me, and why I ding them down to two stars, is the extreme lack of any sort of communication. Why did someone not call me up and say "Hey, we're totally ripping up the side of your house right now, just thought you might like to know! Whoopsiepoodle!" But no, they destroyed large parts of my house then I guess just hoped I wouldn't notice? Or care? At this point, they *still* have not called me. I waited until noon the following day, then I called them. No apologies, no caring, no nothing. I could seriously hear him shrugging over the phone. "I don't know what you want me to do about it." was said to me repeatedly (I did scream "COMMUNICATE" at one point). I understand things happen, I totally get my house was old and the siding was rotting and had I been told then I could have gotten my carpenter on the phone immediately to start assessing how to fix the situation (which, btw, LOVE my carpenter. He got it all fixed in record time. That man is crazy magic!) But I need communication, I need professionalism. Just SAY something, ANYthing. It would have saved the entire situation. read more

I hate to be the one to blemish their glowing reviews but if you're looking for more complex roofing repairs, Acura is probably not your best route. Don't get me wrong these guys were nice and professional at first but I waited a week and a half before I was told by their Rep. that " they would not be able to assist me with my repairs because of the complexity involved " and that was it, click! No suggestion, No explanations. Thanks for the honesty Acura, but maybe changing your category listing will avoid any future confusion; just a suggestion. read more

Hubby and I just bought a major Fixer Upper. Prior to the closing, the insurance company told us we had to have the 18 year old roof replaced as "Google" showed missing shingles. In all of the Texas hail storms, the previous owner never replaced the roof. We contacted Patrick in early December and explained our situation: we may need a new roof prior to closing and if so, we can't officially pay for it until after the closing. Also, we want the 30 year shingles, not the 20. We knew the owner wouldn't pay for the upgrade. Patrick agreed to work with us in every respect. (We already referred him to a friend who replaced her roof and loved the job!) Skip ahead one month: We were able to replace the roof after the closing. The crew did a fantastic job. He was always available to answer any questions we had. He pointed out another small issue with our roof that he fixed at no extra charge. More importantly, they cleaned up all the debris in the yard so our dogs couldn't get hurt (they use a magnet to collect all the nails). Excellent work. Money: Not only does Acura charge a competitive rate, but Patrick went to bat for me with my insurance company and they paid us an additional $500 that the adjuster had missed. Prompt and helpful: Even though this is a big company, Patrick was generally available on short notice to answer my questions, etc., by email and phone. I know they were ready to put our new roof on as soon as I was. This was so, so much better than the other quote I got ... I had to ask the guy 3 different times just to get the quote. Fast install: The whole job happened in about 7 hours, even though there were a couple of unusual things about my roof that they'd never done before. They had a good team of about 6 guys plus the foreman doing the job, and I never saw any of them loafing or doing anything inappropriate. The foreman asked me questions along the way about whether I wanted something done this way or that way and generally going the extra mile to do the job right and the way I wanted it done. He even added, on install day, for a minimal charge, a little bit of extra carpentry work that wasn't part of the original bid. Every time I stepped out to see how they were doing the work, it looked like solid workmanship. Solid cleanup: I've never had a perfect cleanup job by a contractor, but Acura certainly does a very good job. I only found a small amount of debris after they'd gone. Most importantly, I haven't found any nails. read more

I honestly can't say enough good things about this company. Patrick went above and beyond to make replacing our roof as quick and painless as possible. He worked within our schedule and budget to find the right roofing solution for us and his communication throughout the process never left me feeling out of the loop. His team showed up on time the morning we were scheduled to have our roof replaced, took a short break for lunch, and finished the entire job (the entire roof of shingles, some replacement of boards, new ventilation stacks, and new metal trim around each edge) by the time I came back from picking up my little one from school at 5pm. They cleaned up so well that it looked better than when they arrived and even came back the next day to do a quick once over to make sure they'd not left any debris or nails in our front or back yard. That was huge for me since we have a 2 year old and 2 large dogs. The quality of work is fantastic. I've stopped more than once just to stare at our new roof and enjoy it over the past few days. 5 stars and I didn't even do business with them! We're in the process of buying a house, and our inspector came back on the report that we needed crickets installed on the chimneys. So I spoke with Patrick about having this done. He took the time to explain how crickets work and that we almost definitely did not need one. He recommended that since the roof was only a year old that we contact the roofer for assurance that the chimneys are flashed correctly. I was very impressed with the amount of time he took to talk to me, especially since it meant talking himself out of a job! Acura just finished up my roof, and it looks great. I called Patrick when I needed a rush job, and he came over on his Saturday, took some measurements, and had an estimate the next day. He is a very personable guy with tons of expertise in the business - he's been at it for 25 years here in Austin. His quote was lower than the others I got, and he was able to schedule the job right away. His son also works with him, and his crew - who came in and completed the roof from 7 am to 7 pm - was fantastic. Instead of hacking down some of the limbs on the Live Oak that were close to the roof, they worked around them. They also cleaned up as the job went along, and when they left, the walkways and yard were cleaner than when they arrived. I had a full building inspection on my property in Pflugerville, near Austin. The report stated the roof was missing or had damaged shingles due to windstorms and hail and had to be repaired immediately. I live in California, this was a Friday when i received the report and rain was due in a couple of days. Patrick not only went out there hours before the rains but came in under bid. He also made sure to find a close color match to the existing shingles, something the previous roofers didn't bother to do and put in black shingles which were viewable from the front of the house. His advice and guidance from years of experience gave me the confidence I needed to tackle this last minute headache. After finding out that Newmark Homes is no longer honoring warranties, I needed to find a roofing company that was willing to do repairs and would do it honestly. I interviewed several roofing companies in Austin. Some were simply not interested. Others just seemed shady - not able to provide good answers to simple questions. Others were just providing estimates that seemed absurd. I found Acura on Yelp, and after reading their reviews I was compelled to contact them. I had the pleasure of working with Sean. He was here a day after my online request. He was very open and honest about my situation, and called back that same day with an estimate - which was the most reasonable out of all the estimates I considered. Patrick and his team aren't just great roofers, they're artists. I contacted Acura to get a second opinion on a property I was about to purchase. Patrick sent someone out quickly and gave me a bid. My house is a bit unusual and required a bit of custom work around an atrium. Patrick went the extra mile here, measuring and then drawing up some schematics for custom metal work to not only repair the area, but make it better than it had ever been as far as water tightness and appearance. I can't attest to the quality of service of Acura Roofing, but what I can attest to is their non-existent level of tact or professionalism when contacting a potential customer. I sent a request for a quote for roof replacement through Yelp to about 5 roofers in the Austin area. I needed the job done in a short time frame, and was hoping for a metal roof, as I am not familiar with roofing and did not know it was an unreasonable thing to ask. I get a voicemail from "Patrick" at Acura Roofing saying that my request for a metal roof could not be met - in his words "No way, no how!" I was taken aback with how dismissive his voicemail sounded, especially when 4 other companies told us that a metal roof would not be an issue. He did say that shingle roof could be done in the time frame, and to give him a call if we wanted his quote. I did not call Patrick, due to the tone of his voicemail, but then a few days later someone at his office reached out to me via email. They reiterated that they are unable to do a metal roof due to their schedule, but offered to run a quote for a shingle roof. My husband called and spoke with Patrick, and everything was good until my husband mentioned that we'd also need new decking. At that point he border line hung up on my husband, saying "That completely eliminates my interest, thanks for calling." My suggestion to this company is to reconsider letting Patrick actually speak to customers. He may be a great roofer (I guess I'll never know), but his interpersonal skills and customer service could use some work. read more

Is it possible to have a company in the construction industry that you like and are happy with? Yes it is. I was so happy with Acura roofing that I decided to finally crate a yelp account to rave about their work. I originally had Acura do my roof about 6 years ago. They did a great job. They were polite, helpful, and on time. Not only that, they gave me the best price quote I could find and they did a great job. I was nothing but happy with their work. So, a few years later my wife was trying to sell her home and we ran into a problem with her roof. A home inspector came out and suggested that the whole roof needed to be replaced. We didn't think that wasn't true but had to deal with the problem. I called Acura again. Patrick Moran came out and looked at the roof and told us what we were thinking: there were a few shingles that needed replacing-nothing more. He made the repairs and didn't charge us an arm and a leg. We were able to sell the home without any problems. I should have written a review after either one of the first two times a dealt with Acura, but didn't take the time to do so. Which brings me to today. It seems that service after the initial sale is what really makes a company stand out. Acura did not disappoint in that respect. I recently moved back into my home after renting it out for several years. I discovered upon my return that some former tenants had installed several satellite dishes on the roof. The recent rains meant that the roof was leaking from the holes left when the tenant took their satellite dishes down. So, I called Acura again. Despite the large workload that they must be dealing with because of the rains, they came out and fixed my leaks. They were great about communicating when they would do the work. As usual their price was reasonable and they did a great job. I plan to always use Acura for my roofing needs-if they arise again. I would strongly recommend them to anyone that needs a roof replaced or repaired. read more

Acura was the ONLY company that actually broke out a tape measure and submitted an actual quote. Another positive experience for which I can thank Yelp! Patrick Moran was the most responsive contractor I think I've ever worked with. He always answered my (many) questions promptly. He always returned my calls immediately. If I needed another color sample, it was at our house within a day. He made it clear from day one that he would never be the cause of any delay in our roofing project, and he stood by that promise consistently. He also did not require us to put ANY money down on our roof, not even a materials draw - we paid in full after it was completed. That gave me supreme confidence that the project would be done to our complete satisfaction. And it was. The roofers were fast, professional, and did a fantastic job. They laid our shingles with incredible precision, and the finished result is obviously an example of fine craftsmanship. The lines where the shingles meet at the corners are all perfectly straight, and surprisingly beautiful. The only tiny complaints I might lodge about my experience with them would be ones of missed expectations, but I honestly don't think either of these are really Acura's fault. First, our final total ended up being $1000 more than originally quoted. This was because we ended up having a fair amount of rot under our old roof, so they had to spend a bunch of time (and buy a bunch of materials) to repair that wood. I understand that they couldn't really have known that before they got into the project, but it was a little bit of a shock, as you can imagine. The other thing that disappointed me slightly was that I hired Acura because I was SO impressed with Patrick, but as it turned out, I don't think he ever set foot on our property. In retrospect, though, perhaps that's just a good example of a savvy division of labor. The guy who's good at sales and management does just that; the guys who are good at laying shingles handle that end of the job. On balance, I was pleased enough with our experience with Acura to give them five stars. We have a beautiful new roof that should last us a long time, with a 30-year materials guarantee and a 5-year workmanship/labor warranty. Peace of mind and a beautiful roof over our heads - what more can you really ask? read more

Acura did our roof 4 years ago after a big hail storm. They were the highest rated company we chose to get bids from and they ended up being the best price. Work was done quickly and correctly, they did a nice job of cleaning up after they were done. An excellent job. So why did I wait 4 years to write a review? Well noticed during our last rain that there appeared to be a leak around the chimney. So we contacted Acura about getting an estimate. I got a call back the same day and someone on the roof the next morning. He went ahead and fixed the problem area. he had to pull of some siding on the chimney and do a repair because the flashing was cracked and rusting. He did a great job replacing the siding and trim and even caulked everything. He offered to do touch up painting if I had any paint. Then came the surprise, I went out to see what the charge was going to be, NO CHARGE. Said they wanted to take care of their customers. When was the last time a company said and DID that for you? Have a rental property that is going to need a roof pretty soon, there is only one place I will be calling. Acura! read more

Sean came out to work on some damaged/missing shingles that my insurance company was complaining about. Just before he came for the job another section of the roof started leaking. He fixed all the previous shingle issues and then looked for my leak without charging me for the extra work. He also took the time to show me all the potential problem areas and teach me about some of the right ways and wrong ways to do a roof. He came out in a crisis - I needed a pre-sale inspection on a roof and he went out of his way to get to it immediately, and stay in contact with me during the whole period I was tearing my hair out. He ended up not doing the work because I just gave the buyers a credit but he really seemed like one of the few contractors I've dealt with in Austin who will be straight with you, not create work, and not inflate bids. He looked at my roof and instead of telling me I need a new roof (as last roofer said), he said he just need to hammer down a few nails dab them with some caulk., Biiiiiiggggg! I was emailed the estimate the same day it was completed and received a follow-up call from Patrick to see if I had any questions.
