She cut my hair short and then tried to use a hairdryer and comb to make it look like the pictures, but it did not work. I showed her the reference photos again and asked if she could get help from someone else. She asked a colleague, who showed her how to cut the style, but she still seemed unsure how to do it. Eventually, the owner had to step in and finish the haircut for me. For a long-hair haircut that cost about $100 total ($85 for the haircut plus a $15 tip), I was very disappointed with the experience. At this price point, I expected the stylist to be able to achieve the hairstyle she had confirmed she could do, or to be upfront from the beginning if it was outside her expertise. Unfortunately, based on my experience, it was not worth the price or time.

This post is for Kenya, let me just start off by saying that she literally saved my hair. She saved it, repaired it, made a miracle out of it you name it! I wish i had a picture of how broken it was but lets just say it felt like really thin pasta ready to break. We decided to do tape in extensions so that you could hide the damage and make my hair feel healthier and fuller. Tape in extensions are a little expensive but with care they can be used 5-6 times. My hair was at my jaw and now 8 months later its a little over my shoulders. Both Kenya and Linda make you feel right at home and i never want to leave because the atmosphere is so comfortable. So if you have damaged hair come here and get it repaired! Or just come in to feel fabulous! Did i mention Kenya is a great make-up artist as well? No? well now you know! read more

Linda is the only person I trust with my hair. If she moved to another state, I would move, too. I have REALLY thick, curly/wavy hair, that is pretty coarse. I like to keep it long with layers, but because it's so thick, layers can easily give it too much volume. Linda knows precisely how to cut my hair so it won't poof out and the layers grow out perfectly every time. And I switched from highlights to ombre, because it's easier to maintain since my hair grows like a weed and my last color and cut lasted for 5 months. I can't say enough positive things about Linda and Acute Salon. She serves the St. Mary's Park, Bernal Heights, Glen Park, outer Mission area. I had liked my downtown salon but I am so happy to have found such an excellent place closer to where I live with such great customer service and talent. She also cuts my daughters hair and she is happy too. Everyone I have referred her to has been really happy. I have followed Linda all over the Mission since 2016 for hair cuts and color. When she cuts my hair it requires very little styling effort and air dries wonderfully. She interprets my requests for color (i.e. low maintenance + gray coverage), makes wonderful recommendations and I fully trust her with my hair. I currently do a root touch up and some highlights and it grows out really well. She also introduced me to the Kevin Murphy products (eco-friendly/cruelty free) which I really enjoy. read more

Cassie reached out to apologize…read moreabout our interaction and also refunded me for the service - which I appreciate - more so because of the humility and courage it takes to apologize, since it was never about the refund. OG post: I'm actually very sad to write this review because sanctuary salon and Cassie have always been my go to when it comes to getting a decent haircut or color in the city. And while Cassie is an incredible and talented stylist and I've always loved her work (5/5 to her for that) - this review is about how she handles customer service as a salon owner and also about the apprentice program. How she speaks to customers is unbelievably condescending and rude and why after leaving the salon in tears I will no longer be coming back here. To back up - Cassie posted about her needing a model for her apprentice program on her instagram for grey coverage. I put my hand up and her apprentice, Danielle, messaged me directly. She booked me for an appointment - I received no confirmation or communication about price or time taken, but I figured it was just grey coverage (I do it myself at home and it takes 10 mins) and it's part of a learning program so it couldn't be too bad. I get to the salon, she makes me sign a waiver "no refunds for this apprentice program" - I figured okay... still just gray coverage and it's just paperwork. So I sign it. The apprentice stylist has a mentor the whole time she's working with me. When she applies the color, she tells me the process is 4 hours and $100?!!! Which I didn't know on either count before. But it's too late to do anything at this point so I'm like fine? And the apprentice has a mentor who she keeps asking questions to so it seems like she can figure it out and keep it going 4 hours later, after a mediocre blow out, I see that maybe 5/500 grays covered. I'm confused - how could this be messed up? When I ask the mentor - she's confused too. The apprentice stylist basically shrugs and says "grays can be resistant." Mentor calls Cassie in. Cassie enters the conversation - basically starts with boilerplate "it's an apprentice program you signed the contract this is all we can do for you, guess it didn't work out this time". When I ask her what she thinks of the work - she asks the apprentice what she did. On hearing her plan (applying permanent color only on 1 inch of the root and then toning the rest of the black below) her feedback is basically "no that's not right, you should've done more permanent color and double processed it". So I finally realize what happened - the apprentice did the wrong thing - which is totally fine cause she's learning and this is what the appointment was about. What shocked me was that her mentor didn't know any better either and approved her plan with no feedback to fix it. I then tell Cassie that what's done is done for today, but for future feedback for paying clients, apprentice program or not, that maybe she should listen to her apprentice's plan earlier and provide her expert feedback before they start executing. She turns around and says "I don't need your feedback, I've been doing this a long time". Then she begins to berate me and says "you're not a good fit for the apprentice program" and basically blames, shames and belittles me for not being happy that I spent 4 hours and $100 for basically nothing?! I honestly wanted to cry - but instead decided to have a reasonable conversation with Cassie to let her know that feedback is a gift and she can choose to take it or leave it. She makes it clear she's "too busy handling a renovation on the 2nd floor and it's not her job to supervise the apprentices or the new mentors on the floor." I realized it was pointless to continue on - so I paid the $100, cried and left. I wanted to share this experience despite being conflicted about it because of how talented Cassie is as a stylist. But as a stylist and salon owner, you provide service to people - but this is obviously not something sanctuary is able to do. A little kindness in this situation would've gone a long way but that was not the path chosen.

I found Mia on social media (TikTok) and after a couple of months I chose to book an appointment through the salon's online booking system. I booked for the following day, and my appointment was approved by the night before! As far as hair styling pricing goes, this salon's prices are really hard to beat! $100 cut and $100 color?! That's amazing. Onto the actual salon (and I'll finish with the experience). This place is SO incredibly charming and charismatic inside. The decor is not only gorgeous but also intentional! There's a fully stocked waiting room which I actually used and felt comfortable in, not something that's typical for me! That waiting room had tea, coffee, still and sparking water! A ton of awesome cups that looked like they were hand picked for the space (the details do matter). The bathroom was incredibly with wallpaper enthusiastically showing off many bird species. There was a coat closet for both hanging coats but also for choosing whichever salon robe you liked best! The salon space itself was full of natural light and thus perfect for the service it's used for! To the experience: Mia was absolutely AMAZING. I cannot find the adequate words to describe how at ease she made me feel as someone with severe anxiety. She asked questions and listened to my stream-of-consciousness ideas about the haircut until we decided on a game plan, and then she got to work! She did EXACTLY what I asked for, a cut to give me face-framing layers and some layers in the back to lighten my very long hair's load on my scalp. I already adore my new hair but honestly, the experience Mia provided was so noteworthy that, I have to gush! She had questions lined up to fill that often awkward silence during haircuts and I so appreciated that. She also gave me totally solid advice on what to do in the future with potential coloring sessions. I'm really grateful to have found Mia on TikTok, because if I hadn't, my hair would've been the same tonight as it was yesterday! Mia you ROCK, and I will be back.

The cezanne treatment is overall better in every way and Gina is so kind and informative. If you are someone that dreads hair wash day and avoids any kind of humidity or mistbecause their hair automatically gets frizzy and all the time spent blow drying and straightening your hair gets ruined the second you step in a hot club or outside when it's foggy this is definitely for you and is literally life changing. The treatment takes half the time of a traditional Brazilian blowout and there is 0 chemical smell because there is none. I used to have to wear goggles and a face mask getting chemical treatments and those although it got rid of frizz and cut down my dry time left my hair feeling super greasy and it wouldn't hold any curl. With the cezanne my hair wash/blow Dry time is cut in more than half (from hours without it to 20 minutes) my hair still can hold a curl but the frizz is gone under any condition and it's left feeling so thick silky beautiful I get so many compliments. And it lasts for 4-5 months vs 2-3 with a Brazilian blowout. And even better it actually benefits my hair in the long run my hair has the longest and healthiest it's ever been even after the treatment has left my hair with no split / dead ends and it helps it grow long and healthy where as the Brazilian blowout after it felt like it almost made my hair more dry once it left my hair and it didn't help with hair growth at all. I'm obsessed and will be getting this twice a year forever. Gina is so kind informative flexible and skilled. Highly recommend!

Kerrin, picked from the reviews here, seemed to understand what I was looking for. I have no complaints about Kerrin and her skills, she's lovely, (though not the stylist for me). After asking permission to cut more length off, she gave me a bob, a bit matronly for my taste, but okay as a change of pace and still long enough to pull back or put up. That was a must! I felt optimistic about working with Kerrin and sometimes the relationship with a stylist takes time to develop. I had an event that weekend, so we discussed color, at length. I wasn't interested in a "Town and Country" look, I wanted something fun and funky, but not clown-y. On her suggestion, I made an appointment for color and a few highlights later that week. When I arrived back for my color we talked about the cut. To break up the uniformity, she "texturized" it. The color was drab, the highlights so subtle I couldn't even see them and overall not much of a change from what I walked in with. Not great but Kerrin wanted to make it right. We agreed to wait until the color settled before she fixed it. I was a bit shocked to get a $218.00 bil l(not including cut) for single process and a few highlights. While paying, the receptionist, co-owner Patricia, brusquely enumerated the charges, including $40.00 for toner. I told her I had never heard of a separate charge for toner. Her response was, "You never asked." Why would I ask about a fee that is never charged? I explained that I thought it was rude to not let the client know ahead of time, particularly with respect to charges that may not be customary. Patricia responded by calling ME rude and telling me I had been talking too loudly while having my hair done. She added that since I was used to having my hair done, I obviously could afford it. Outrageous. update: the cut is really unflattering and far too short. Alas, all I can do is wait it out and find another stylist. *** Yay! Struck gold with Gillian, at Honeycomb Salon on 24th Street. I have never, ever been happier! People compliment me all the time.

I showed Erica a photo of the desirable cut and she did magic. Erica made me feel very comfortable. It would have been great if she had her billing and initiation process on time. Appointment process on yelp was broken so I had to call to get through. Salon is clean. She couldn't give me a blow dry as she said it wasn't allowed during the pandemic.
