1 STAR -- Extremely Disappointed With Adam's Heating & Cooling I called Adam's Heating & Cooling because my HVAC system was leaking water. I expected a technician to properly diagnose the issue and, if possible, repair it. Instead, the technician, Matthew "Matt" Gallagher, was at my home for approximately five minutes before telling me that my HVAC system was dangerous to repair because of the water and that I needed a completely new system. I was told my system was approximately 13 years old and that replacing it would cost around $11,000, or I could finance it for approximately $150 per month for 8 years. What really concerned me was how quickly the conversation went from diagnosing the problem to selling me a new system. In fact, the financing application was already pulled up during the visit. I was also told not to turn my HVAC system back on because it was dangerous and that I should not have anyone repair it because of the water issue. I paid the $79 service fee expecting an actual diagnosis and repair options. Instead, I left feeling like I had paid $79 simply to be presented with a replacement system and financing. I decided to get a second opinion from another HVAC company. Their technician came out, properly inspected the system, cleared the clogged drain, performed general maintenance, and replaced the drain line for approximately $300. They explained that while my HVAC system is older, there was no immediate need to replace it simply because of this issue. That experience was completely different from what Adam's told me. The biggest issue for me is that I was told my system was dangerous and essentially beyond repair, when another HVAC professional was able to identify the actual issue and repair it. My HVAC system is now working properly. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to an expensive HVAC replacement through Adam's Heating & Cooling, especially if you are immediately told that your only option is to purchase a new system. I called them because I needed a repair -- not a sales pitch for an $11,000 system. I am extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled and feel that I was not given a fair opportunity to have my existing system properly diagnosed and repaired. I will also be documenting my experience and contacting the appropriate consumer protection resources so that other homeowners can make informed decisions. My advice: Get a second opinion before spending thousands of dollars on a replacement. read more

Working with Adam Mechanical was a pleasure from start to finish. My boiler broke while we had guests in the house and they were able to come out the same day. The repair man kindly put the repair fee towards the new boiler when we learned it was unfixable. He thankfully ran a Carbon Monoxide test and showed me the results, which were way too high, so he red flagged the boiler and shut it down. He was able to get Matt to come back with our boiler options that same day. Matt kindly let us borrow space heaters for the night so we wouldn't be cold. He gave us multiple options and helped us pick the best one. They were able to expedite the installation since it was urgent. 36 hours later, Eric, Ricardo, and Darryl showed up. They were courteous, on time, and communicated as they worked. They laid down carpets to keep the dust and dirt down, which I appreciated. They showed me how to use my new thermostat. Now we have a brand new, efficient, all-in-one heating system instead of a potential health hazard. Matt and the main office even called to follow up and make sure everything was working well and that we were happy with the service. read more

Adam Mechanical has done for me 2 HVAC installations, both of which required running of duct work. One was at our home in Drexel Hill that required high velocity and the other just recently in our new home in Media with traditional size duct work. Both installations went extremely well. Although in both installs there were some hicups with placing of A/C hits Adam Mechanical's site construction leads made sure to run through all possible scenarios and worked with me to determine best option. In both cases these caused no incremental costs to our project. Their crew was always incredibly cordial and did an excellent job cleaning up after themselves at the end of each day. Projects were completed on time and within budget. They were significantly cheaper than their other larger competitors but came with all the bells and whistles that the larger "guys" come with. Bottom line, from their sales force, to construction crew, technicians, and customer service were all world class. I will continue to use Adam Mechanical for all HVAC projects because I trust them to deliver a quality product at a more than reasonable cost. read more

Total price gouger... I had a recent estimate from them reviewed by an independent HVAC estimator friend from New York who inspected the job. He has no affiliation with any HVAC contractors in the area and was merely doing me a favor. He told me that the proposed price was way over industry standard and that I should try negotiating the price with them. I contacted them in an attempt to understand the basis for their estimate and was given a "take it or leave it" response. I have had and continue to have service contracts with Adam Mechanical for two sites, one commercial (5 zones) and one residential (5 zones). They continually try to upsell at every opportunity. Being an engineer and having my own business I have great experience in analyzing quotations and managing vendors. Perhaps I am more educated than their typical consumer. Don't get me wrong, being a businessman I realize that they need to make a profit, but they obviously try to take advantage of their unsuspecting customers. A word of advice to all considering Adam Mechanical for their HVAC needs... get multiple quotes... then you'll understand my review. read more

We had them out to install ductless mini splits after being recommended by family that had hired them for the same thing. They did an excellent job from start to finish. HVAC work is never cheap but they were very upfront about costs and worked with my budget without any pressure or "sign now for a discount" sliminess. The crew was on time and very respectful. They were great about communicating any challenges they came across during installation and worked with us for any decisions about placement of units, wires, etc. The technician found an electrical problem near the end of the installation and worked diligently trying to solve it, staying late on a Friday to try and figure it out. Even though he was unable to fix it, the company was very good about fixing it as quickly as possible (even over a holiday weekend.) We also had a minor problem with one of the units not draining properly but they sent someone over within a few hours of calling them. You can't expect every job to go perfectly, but what makes a company superior is how hard they'll work to get issues resolved quickly. They definitely delivered on that. read more

Trying to put AC in a 91 year old home with radiators and 2 foot thick stone walls cannot be an easy thing! We put this off for years but finally went with this contractor because they inspired confidence. It was not misplaced. Where other contractors could not tackle it and declined or did not show up, they showed up, explained the process, and gave us what we felt was a reasonable price given the problems in dealing with the house and the fact that we needed advanced purification on the system for health reasons. The installers were respectful and kept me advised on every step of the work. Zack ( the owner) was hands on and when there were problems we did not anticipate he explained and re-worked the plan. The house fought change ( like the old grande dame she is ) but we now have a good system and are finally comfortable. It took 7 hours to get a small hole put in the stone to run the pipe from the outside unit, but they did it! They also covered the outside pipe to look like a gutter, despite the fact that it was in the back of the house where it could not be easily seen. Hire them. They are craftsmen. read more

My wife and I have a 6 year-old LAARS MiniCombo II in our home. It's a summer/winter unit with a boiler and 30 gallon indirect hot-water tank. Though relatively young, the tank began leaking -- and after emailing pictures of the leak to LAARS, it was good enough to send a new $1,500 tank at no cost. I had gotten 3 estimates for the installation. One was very high and another was slightly higher than Adam Mechanical. I chose AM because Eric -- their Master Plumber -- impressed me with his knowledge and good nature and the fact that he was going to use expensive union-couplings ILO soldered joints. The tank installation incurred some unforeseen issues that resulted in additional time and fitting costs. But Eric persisted and worked until the job was successfully completed -- and AM honored its initial estimate and did not ask for any additional money to pay for the added time and parts. That was over two weeks ago -- and the new tank is functioning as intended. We want to thank Eric and Kim at AM for their professionalism and performance -- and I give AM a solid 5-START rating. We had Adams convert our oil heat system into a gas system in our house. They were very reasonably priced and got the entire job done in one day. During the installation we had one minor set back with our new stove, and they were able to get the piping we needed immediately and took care of setting that up as well. Matt was our project manager and he went above and beyond to make sure we were happy by the end of the day. He is very honest and looked out for our best interest. During the project we discovered we needed a new electrical outlet for the new stove. He called someone up right away and helped up schedule the electrical work for the next day. He even followed up after they were done to ask us if we were satisified with their work and if there was anything else he could do to ensure we were set. We highly recommend Matt and his team, Murph, Darrel and Mike, at Adams for any project. Both the install team and office team were wonderful to work with, very professional, neat, considerate and personable. I had my Hot Water Heater hanging on, bottom was rusting out, in 11/2018. Installed the heater in 1996, so it didn't owe me anything. I had put a few in over the years, but new knees and no truck ended that idea. Won't buy major purchases at H/D or Lowes, and wanted a Bradford White. Called all the locals in Ridley when it finally burst thru on Jan. 16th, 2019, shame people want to charge you all the money when they have you over a barrel, or just couldn't get out there @1pm. Got on the phone w/ Adam Mech. quibbled once and all was done by $4:30pm same day with outstanding service, clean as a whistle work and area clean up, and a new edition Bradford White, 7year warranty, which nowadays is pretty good. Can't remember manager's name or the service young guy. I am old, ok. Recommended them for a couple of jobs, 2 friends, one used them, but the other was up in N.E. Montgomery County, little out of the way. If you use them they call back in a week or so, send e-mail and discount services. Top Notch. JME read more

I've been using Adam Mechanical for about 5 years and they never disappoint. Always professional and timely, they are a pleasure to work with. When I recently woke up without heat, they immediately responded (on a Saturday!) and did everything they could to repair the unit. Over the past five years and many conversations, I knew my old system was on its last leg but each year they did their best to keep it running. I have always appreciated their honesty! Unfortunately it finally reached the point of no repair, and they quickly were able to come to my house and provide an estimate, and in the snow no less! They had my new unit installed and ready to go two days later. The technicians walked me through what they did and how the system works once they were all done. Our air conditioning stopped working suddenly during a very hot week recently. We called Adam Mechanical because they installed the original unit years back. Their 24-hour service called us back the same evening and were able to work with us to schedule an appointment for the next day. Throughout the process the communication was excellent. The tech who came to the house, Eric called when he was on the way to our house. He was polite, immediately put shoe covers on, and identified the problem quickly. Luckily we just needed a new part which took about 10 min to install. Eric was very knowledgeable and explained the issue clearly, as well as talked to us about how we can prevent this from happening in the future. Amazing, since most of the other places I called around to were giving me appointments way into the week or offering to put me on a waiting list because of how busy they were! Even better was the fact that he had the part and was able to switch it out and had my AC kicking out that cool air in less than 30 minutes! I am very impressed with the quality of customer service! We were very happy with Adam Mechanical. They ran gas into the house and removed the old oil furnace, oil tanks and old AC unit. They installed a new gas furnace and AC. They were very professional and polite, and they explained each step of the process to us. They cleaned up very nicely after themselves and were a pleasure to work with. Seth came to the job site to see how things were going and checked in regularly. Although it was a two day project, they went out of their way to ensure that we had heat during the night in between. Seth was very honest with us about what did and did not need to be replaced. We did not feel pressured at all, and we felt that he was looking at things from our perspective. read more

On Friday, I had a toilet back up and flood the floor a bit -- got it cleaned up and scheduled an appt for them to come out on Monday. Saturday night -- it backed up again and flooded my family room. Called them up -- Kerry showed up right away and stayed until 10:30 pm to get the line clear. He came back a couple of days later to use a camera and sure enough -- tree roots in the line. He then came back with special tools and equipment to clear the line completely. Each time he and his colleagues were friendly, professional, explained all costs, services, options, etc. I have a lot of confidence in their expertise and appreciate the friendly service. Adam Mechanical, went above and beyond for my family. On one of the coldest weeks of the year in the teens, our heater wasn't working. There was water leaking from our system, and my basement was flooding. They not only came out last minute but when the technician didn't have all the parts, at 4 in the afternoon, he drove around for an hour until he located the part he needed and fixed our system. Didn't get done til after 5pm on a Friday afternoon, only to have to drive over an hour in traffic back home. I will only rely on Adam Mechanical from here on out. From the initial call to the last check of our new system this was a great experience. Matt came to the house the day after I called and before he left i knew exactly was I was getting and when it could be installed! Darryl, Gage, Nate, and other technicians did a superb job installing a heat pump with backup oil burner that works perfectly. They worked diligently all day while very humid out. And even after running into an electrical issue when they thought they were done, they stayed and got the job finished so I could have air conditioning that night.
