Our 5 year old HVAC system stopped working, so we called McLoughlin Plumbing , Heating, and Cooling. Steve from service was dispatched to look at our unit. He found a few issues with the system and replaced the refrigerant. The unit started to work again. About 30 hours later, the same problem occurred. Steve found a leak in the system and worked with his manager to locate the part. Unfortunately, the part was back-ordered. There was no target date for our unit to be repaired. The day this occurred, the temperatures went to 100 degrees. Not willing to wait or to put more money into the problem, we contacted Rob who put together a quote and sent it to us in about 2 hours. I ask him when he needed to know the model we wanted to install, and he told us by the next morning at 8: 00 am. My husband and I called Rob's mobile phone at 8:00 am. We told him that we expected that the HVAC unit would be installed by end of business that day. Much to my surprise, Rob said that the two units we were interested in were available locally. Not only that, he said that he pulled two guys from a new construction installation, and if I looked out my window, I would see two trucks outside waiting for him to tell them to come to our door to begin to dismantle the existing unit. I quickly went to our front window and they were there! Wow, now that was impressive! Not only that, Rob stopped at the distribution center on his way to the office and was at the site to pick up the unit that we decided on! Also pretty impressive. The installation was flawless. The three guys were great, professional, and efficient. I highly recommend McLoughlin for HVAC units. My expectations were extremely high, one might even say unrealistic. They responded quickly but didn't listen to everything I asked for and are extremely overpriced. I called because we bought a new house and I the AC on the second/third floor wasn't working. I clearly told the office that the AC is on the roof of the second floor and that they would need a ladder to access the roof. I also told them I wanted to have the unit on the first floor checked out. The repairman showed up with no ladder and was unhappy he had to climb out the third floor window to access the unit upstairs. He told me the office didn't ask him to check the first floor unit, too. Long story short, the bill was almost $300 before they applied the $50 coupon from online. All of that for them to tell me the AC upstairs wasn't working and needed repairs. He changed a filter and noted one repair from the old company's service log on the unit. The $79 "diagnostic" fee is just for them to show up. Not for them to do any work... The serviceman was friendly and knowledgeable but this is way overpriced. Will be doing business elsewhere. For $79 to show up, bring a ladder! read more

Used this company for basement sewer job about 10 years ago and they were great . quick and clean and well organized - came on time . Not cheap but I wanted good work . Called them again for a big job on a stack pipe leak and it was a disaster -they sent an inexperienced plumber who didn't know what he was doing , couldn't write up a coherent work order , was perpetually late or didn't show , left a huge mess every time , used my vacuum cleaner to clean up plaster dust and nearly destroyed it. Dragged the job on for months with increasing costs and basically misdiagnosed the leak and after telling me to close the walls ( spent a good penny on a high priced painter plasterer to do that ) the new walls were ruined because the pipe leaked again warping my wood floor as well . When I contacted McGloughlin ( Tom McGee , he tried to tell me it was a" new crack" ) Hired another plumbing co who essentially had to do the whole job again and when. the inspectors from the township came they noted the prior work was not code ( Mcgloughlin had never pulled a permit either ! ) and some of my pipes were duct taped and horsehaired together ... I sued to get some of the money back for the wall repair and probably should have asked for more but just wanted this to be over and I got it . Bill the owner was kind enough to send me an apology for the substandard work ( 8 x 10 color glossies !! , thank you ) . Moral of the story , if you get a hint the guy doesn't know what he's doing , call early and make a fuss and make sure all work is under a permit !!! Those guys saved the day ! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! They are scam artists that think they can overcharge when people are in a bind. I purchased a home that had a Bradford White 50 Gallon - 40,000 BTU TTW Power Vent Energy Saver Residential Water Heater installed on 4-23-19 by McLoughlin. At the time of writing, the unit is a little over 3 years old and is still covered under Bradford White's 6 year warranty. I have a Floodstop installed that automatically shut the valve when it sensed water in the pan and contacted McLoughin yesterday to have the tank replaced. I did tell them it wasn't emergent for them to come out last night, and they could come out in the morning. I sent them photos of the unit so they had the model number & serial number for the warranty claim. They finally got back to me at noon today and said they could come out after 3PM today and replace the tank for $1,445. My mother-in-law just had the same situation with a Bradford White water heater a month ago and paid ~$800. I called my regular plumber and he said he could do it for ~$500 to $600 plus ~$100 to get the 6yr warranty back in effect for the new tank . I called McLoughin back and told them their price was too high and they offered to knock $150 off the cost. They're pricing was still SKY high, so I told them to forget about it -- I could go buy a new hot water heater and have it installed for $1,500. I also would advise against Bradford White's, they are not the same quality they used to be. They spend a lot of $$$ on advertising but their product is not the "top quality" they claim it to be. If you want to be ripped off when you have a heating, cooling, plumbing or hot water emergency, call McLoughlin! read more

I have been a long time "comfort" member of McLoughlin Plumbing. I just used them to do a lot of my house renovation work. Today I had someone come out for a routine check. They said I had an old capacitor (that I didn't even need to replace, but I did to be conservative). I looked up the price of the piece on Amazon and other websites and it cost $60. It took 20 mins to put in the piece. They charged me $360!!! Ridiculous markup. For a 20 minute piece of work. Coming from a long time customer. DO NOT USE THEM. I previously wrote a review as I was upset that one of guys did not wear a mask in my house.... Checked sump pump after major snow storm melt less than a week later( did not go down prior ),to find room wet.It was the new back up system pipe that had a huge crack and was leaking.Called them and came out,went out of their way to find new one.It is Christmas eve and are installing it now ,before major storm. Realise every body can have a bad day and make mistakes ,and at the last visit CLEARLY did! !!! Charged me for something they don't even fix. I was specific in my request about the service of my grinder/sewer ejector pump when speaking to the receptionist...After arriving at my property they then wanted to subcontract work out...I should have known better not to use someone that wants to charge just for a visit! Personally, I Would not recommend nor refer anyone to this company! Update: After dispute of my claim I received an email that I would not be charged. The service man that did show up was very professional and seemed knowledgeable, but think they could have better processes in place to make sure they have a better understanding of the customers problem and that it gets relayed to the service tech properly. I called McLoughlin to get a quote for an annual Heater Service. At this time I was informed that they do not give quotes over the phone, and that I would need to setup an appointment to have someone come out and give me a quote. I thought that this was odd for such a standard job, but I went ahead and started to setup this appointment. It was then that I was informed that it would cost me $75 just to have someone come out and give me a quote. This fee was non-refundable and could not be applied to the actual service...which I could not find the cost of unless I paid the $75 fee. Needless to say, I called a competitor who instantly gave me a quote over the phone and scheduled someone to come out and perform the job the next day. No extra fees necessary. I really wanted to support a local business in my area, but this one made it too difficult for me. read more

Our air-conditioning broke down yesterday in 90° heat and we were desperate to find someone who could fix it right away. Rob McLoughlin assured us that he could solve the problem but he didn't even start the project until 3 PM and finally left at 7:30 PM after spending half the time outside in the rain putting in a new system. Not only was he here yesterday until 7:30 PM but he also tried to band-aid the situation on Labor Day in hopes that we wouldn't have to buy a new system until next spring. We just had a gas leak (existing old lines) and of course called McLoughlin. They came out on a Sunday and confirmed the leak. The next day they sent two plumbers who located two small leaks (had to put compressed air through the lines in order to find them). Once found they replaced the leaking lines and our house is once again safe! read more

These folks are expensive and ripoff artists. Moved to a new house after thirty years and these folks had installed the systems. Many problems with their poor installation--immediately asked for a $775 annual "service contract" the first time they showed up and then discover it actually covers only two basic visits that should not cost anywhere near this much--had great experience with Walter Dwyer in my old house with similar systems where a significant repair in an emergency visit was done for less than $300. Meanwhile, the air conditioning system McLoughlin installed seems to have many consistent problems--very very done with them--avoid! read more

Called to have someone come out and look at my AC unit. Spoke with Janice who told me they could have someone out that day after 1. I left early from work to make sure I was home on time. Got a phone call at 2:30 from Janice telling me they couldn't get anyone out and that they could come the next day. Her reasoning was that she never said they were definitely coming that day but that they "might be able to come after 1". Who runs a business scheduling appointments on we "might" be there? Complete waste of time. If you decided to use this company I suggest being very clear with Janice on the time and your expectations. read more

We needed to change the A/C and furnace in our just bought 2600 ft house. We got estimates from four companies. McLoughlin was competitive (not the cheapest but close) but we went with them because we trusted their assessment the most. Everyone had their own measurements and load calculations and we got quotes for systems ranging between 3 and 5 tons, McLoughlin seemed the most professional and trustworthy (they came in with 4). Chris S. was our main contact and he was great. Answered multiple questions between giving the estimate and us making a decision (took us a month). They then scheduled us and did the job in just over 2 days. The even cleaned up after themselves and did everything as promised. Very cordial service throughout, from the person picking up the phone to the crew that came in. They left a few very minor issues unfinished (forgot to take a hose with them, install frame for thermostat) but promptly came to take care of these upon sending an email to them. Oh yes, and the new system works great. I will certainly service our systems with them and recommend them to friends. read more

Assume that any plumber can do the work.  But getting them to return a call and show up has been a challenge.  McLoughlin, they answer the phone, commit to a time and show up when they say.  They were running late so called to explain (no complaint here about that....if a plumber was at my house and ran into  something unexpected I would be upset if they left mid job to be on time for their next appointment.  Wouldn't you?) As I expected the job was simple which the guy (Bob) could have done blindfolded - nothing unexpected, so all was good. The differentiator here was that their plan seems to be based on the idea that the person they send represents the Company.  Bob, was a good guy and very did a good job of explaining the repair (replacing a pressure reducing valve), what the valve did, expected life of the valve, and the effect of the bad valve on my homes plumbing.  Plus all of the standard stuff like warranty and so one.  He also reviewed pricing before the job for my approval.  Post job he summarized what he did, showed me the job and inspected everything with me before I signed off.  Good plan and excellent job by Bob.  Good example of hiring the right people and the idea that the person you send does more than just complete a task.  They represent you and how they do that makes , or breaks, your business.  Again, good job and thanks. read more

When McLoughlin's plumber assessed a leak at the valve of our shower handle, tiles were cracked across the wall of the shower at the level of the shower handle. When I called the office to discuss the damaged tiles, McLoughlin denied responsibility for the cracked tiles. We inspect that shower every time a tenant moves out, we caulk the shower, clean hair out of the drain, and clean the exhaust fan in the shower. We know the property very well. We were told by the McLoughlin Company that the cracked tiles at the shower handle was house settlement. The shower has no other cracked tiles and these cracked shower tiles appeared immediately after their plumber was in the house to assess the leak. We were very disappointed the company did not agree to fix this damage and made such a lame excuse for the cracked tile. We have always paid a premium price for McLoughlin to repair plumbing at the house and we certainly expected better when something was not satisfactory with their work. Jim Rafferty came out to our house multiple times to take measurements, come up with a thoughtful plan and estimate, and he answered all of my questions and explained everything. He was incredibly knowledgeable and broke it down so that I understood the project I was about to embark on. They began work immediately and were efficient, professional, thorough and did all they set out to do and more. In their installation of an HVAC system, they used high quality products, got all the tubing and parts needed into the house with minimal intrusion, even got the condenser to sit at the back of our house, and got tubing and diffusers out to everywhere we needed. They cleaned everything thoroughly and worked quickly. I continued to text Jim questions throughout the process and he was always kind and quickly responsive. They might be good at what they are doing, but they are definitely very expensive in my experience and didn't get anything fixed on my AC and heating even after spending over $1500. They are very transparent in terms of pricing, every item has a fixed price, so you do know how much you are getting into, then they tell you if you have maintenance contract with them, they will give you 15% discount on all the items, so it sounds like you saved a lot by getting the maintenance contract, since you end up paying the same amount, but at least get the annual maintenance covered. But that's about all the plus side and it stops right there. The down side now, every item is at least twice or three times more expensive than other companies, and for any service call, even if you end up not having them done anything, you are over $250 out of pocket. Of course they say if you end up using them for the repair, they will waive the diagnostic charge, but other companies don't even charge that! Any maybe it was just my bad luck, the tech who came out to my house upsold everything, for a simple problem, he quoted me over $1200 on the spot, with an optional plan of over $2600. I was very suspicious about the claim and quote and stopped my loss by paying the $250 trip/ diagnostic charge. Then I called another company, the tech had similar diagnosis, but worked above and beyond to provide a much simpler solution, got everything fixed within an hour after driving out to purchase a part, then set me up for an annual service contract for $259 which covered this repair, future part and labor for any repair and one annual maintenance. So $250 for nothing to be done vs $259 for peace of mind for the whole year, I know to whom I will take my business to in the future. read more

I understand why this company has been in business for 50 years. My 15 yr gas furnace decided to quit on the coldest day of the year. I asked my neighbor who he used and he referred me to McLoughlin. I called and they were very professional and efficient from the start. Fortunately for me, they were able to come out later that same day. The Technician was very courteous, and helpful. He explained the problem, and provided up front pricing on what it was going to cost to repair. I decided to go ahead with the repair, and I'm happy I did. I had heat before dinner time, and you couldn't even tell I had a technician in my home. Not even a single foot print was left. Thank you for such great service, and the respect you showed my home. My kitchen sink was clogged so I called McLoughlin. Their technician came out and tried to address the problem. He spent about an hour snaking the drain which improved the clog, but did not fix it. This cost me $300!!! Before he left he ran the water for about 5 minutes and the sink drained. I am not a plumber, so I figured it was good to go. About an hour after he left, the sink, for whatever reason, was in the same condition it was before he came out (and we did not put anything down it after he apparently fixed it. After all we had just spent $300. Why would we dare put something down the drain besides water after spending that amount of money?). I called Mcloughlin and explained to them that it was still not draining properly, and they told me that in order for them to come back out, and do the same thing, it would cost me an additional $300. Thanks for nothing Mr. McLoughlin, you lost a customer and I will be spreading the word that your company sucks. We ended up calling another plumber through a friend's referral, and he had the problem fixed in no time. read more
