Adana made J Gold's top 100 and being the J Gold slut that I am, I had to give it a try! #Disappointed Don't get me wrong, it was good. It was probably on par with a lot of the Persian places on Westwood Blvd. It just wasn't top 100 good. Maybe it's the best Persian in the valley, but it's not the best Persian in LA. Ok picture this, you walk into a empty restaurant with over the top furniture and a friendly but slightly nervous waiter who smirks at you while you walk in. You look around for any familiar faces but find nothing but empty chairs, You realize that you are at a local mob hangout where the unwritten rule is to respect all because you don't know who you may rub the wrong way....ok ok ok..I am getting carried away. I felt like doing some creative writing today.. The truth of the matter is that the place is always so strangely secluded and especially during lunch hours. This last time was a bit more crowded than usual which made me scratch my head a bit. The lack of foot traffic doesn't take away from how great this place is. This place sits in the heavily Armenian populated city of Glendale. I have had some really great Armenian meals in Glendale, however this is one of my top favorite eateries. I was introduced to this place when our secretary began ordering it for our work events and meetings that required feeding hungry employees. The food hits the spot and it is always so tasty and so filling. One of my co workers a few months ago asked me to visit the Adana's restaurant. It is now one of my "go to's" for lunch when I want a quick getaway with some scrumptious food. I usually get a salad with chicken and avocado. The salads are quite filling and always hit the spot. They are always so fresh and made to order. Their meats are also quite filling and make you fell rather content. The service is always on point and prices are reasonable. What a great combo. Adana restaurant serves delicious Middle-Eastern food with classic staples like hummus and Goobideh to refined favorites like muttabul, fattoush salad, and spicy olive salad. The food is fresh, flavorful, and tastes homemade that makes you want to return time and time again. Keep in mind the portions are HUGE, so you might consider sharing the plates (order a few combos in the middle) because there is at least 2 cups of cooked basmati rice in addition to the two sides and the meat. The chicken and beef Goobideh should definitely be eaten with the onion/parsley mix that arrives at the table as it enhances the flavor greatly. For appetizer i ordered the Armenian Eggplant Dip and we totally loved it cause it has a spicy kick in it and the pita bread was warm and yummy. For our entree we ordered Beef Koobideh with Cucumber Yogurt and Hummus, Combination(beef, chicken and Looleh) hummus and roasted tomato. So what did we get? TADAAAAHHHH!!!! Chicken Koobideh with Roasted Tomato and Hummus Lamb Koobideh with Cucumber Yogurt and Roasted Tomato We we're like F*CK!?!?!?! Good thing we were starving and didn't really care. After much hoopla, I made a point to try this place. What a disappointment. I don't think I am a tough critic, but honestly a bit confused of how this place received all these stars so far... I would give the service a 3 star, the willingness to serve a 3.5 star. But that's about it. There are many many good eateries in LA; many excellent middle eastern, Persian, and Armenian eateries. Adana doesn't make the cut. I tried the usual suspects of the popular appetizers/mezzes; here is my take - Mutabal, it's a no-no; the tabbouleh salad not a success either; The Hummus is not bad. The Keshkeh Bademjan is very different than the usual, I would rather they called it something else, so one doesn't go with the expectation of a certain taste. Although the plates and dishes looked nice, the overall ambiance lacks the quaint feel that small mom/pop restaurants present. The servers were cheerless, actually more like gloomy; except our waiter who possibly was the owner, he was energetic; though was rushed and rushing. But he was really nice. I would recommend the business to offer less variety on their menu, and stick to what they are good at, Kabobs. Yes the chicken Kabob was good. The place is definitely "a Meh for me." Since the restaurant is not in coveted neighborhood, and doesn't have a view or a garden, I was hoping the food would entice me. And it didn't. read more

I was here at noon on a Friday for a business meeting with a colleague. Adana is in part of Glendale that's adjacent to Burbank. When I arrived, there was only one patron. It may be that Adana is a newly opened restaurant. The egg plant hummus was delicious. The server gave us a complimentary appetizer which was absolutely fabulous. Oh man, what can I tell you about this place that doesn't sound cliched? The filet mignon lunch special is to die for ;) It's only $6.25 and unbelievable - cooked perfectly, moist and seasoned oh so right. Delivery is (sometimes) slow but they will usually let you know if it's going to take a while. This is one of those restaurants that I've suggested to most everyone I work with & not 1 single person has complained, seriously they've all raved about it! Being 4.5 stars out of some 50 reviews, it really lived up to its rating. I'm giving them a 5 star because I'm a big kabob fan. Kabobs preferences is like sushi and pizza. One person praises a restaurant that another doesn't. Their kabobs are amazing. For $7.99, I got beef kabobs, rice, Shirazi salad, and hummus. Try beating that! There is no hostess station, no music, no wait station, or anything that makes it look like a traditional restaurant but it does kick butt. The service is great but don't expect to walk in and be greeted. Come in and sit down and some one will come out to meet you from the back. It's an old world feel with a modern & classy design. This place makes any other Mediterranean places I've tried seem weak and in need of cooking lessons. My fiancé eats here at least once a week when he's working in Burbank. His chicken is all natural, organic, etc. and the pita chips that he makes are amazing. I had the chicken breast kabob, salad, hummus, pita chips, and rice. They have a lot of different combinations of rice. He suggested the cherry rice and said if I didn't like it, he would bring me regular. I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not. It was amazing! I'm so disappointed that this place is not closer to me! LOL Or maybe it's a good thing so I don't eat this too often and blow up like a balloon! Really amazing, fresh food! We went here last minute while driving around searching for a restaurant via Yelp. Our clock was ticking, kids home with the sitter and our original dinner plans were foiled. After all the reviews on Yelp decided to try Adana's. Glad we did. When we first walked in, it felt like you were walking into someone's house. There were two families dining, but no one was out front to greet you. The decor is bare but very grand with high ceilings. We stood there for a minute trying to decide if we should seat ourselves, and then a young man walked out carrying dishes to someone's table. We then sat down and a man (would later find out he's Chef-owner Edward Khechemyan) brought us menus and asked what we wanted to drink. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own bottle of wine or beer, if you want. (We didn't know this). I ordered a salad, which the owner recommended (it's their specialty and can't remember what it's called). My husband ordered the eggplant appetizer. Both were amazing. For our entrees, we ordered the Salmon kabobs and vegetarian plate. Both amazing. The only thing not amazing was the pita bread. I like mine really soft and fluffily, and this was not the best, but overlooking that due to the freshness of the food, how amazing it tasted, and how fantastic the chef/owner is. I had really high hopes after reading the amazing reviews. However my experience was just about ok! Nothing spectacular or mind blowing. The restaurant was empty when we arrived and by the time we left, just 2 more people came in. We ordered the falafel plate and beef koobideh. The falafel were a bit weird, very small and different texture than what I was expecting but they were freshly cooked and not too bad. The beef koobideh was really cooked well, but did not have much flavor, was a bit disappointing. I also ordered the yogurt with shallots dip and that was pretty good. We ordered Hummus ($7) and Dolmeh ($7) for appetizers, Khoresh Ghormeh Sabzi ($17), Zereshk Polo ($18), Barg Kabab ($23), Pan Fried Trout ($23). The service sucks but it felt like the young guy simply had a terrible additude toward life in general. I mean really odd, but the older server was fine. I give 5 stars for the best Armenian food I've had in my life. My boyfriend agrees that this place was mind blowing. I got the vegetarian special which was moderately priced at $14 or so. The portions are ENORMOUS. We both went hungry and left with two boxes full of delicious leftovers. YES!!! Super! Just super! Wow! This place came highly recommended from our friends and after reading the NYTimes review I was even more interested in trying Adana. We showed up on a Friday night. We were seated immediately but had to wait a while for the owner/waiter to catch up with the rush and take our order. The owner was super friendly even though he looked overwhelmed at times with the number of tables he was waiting on. And he gave us some great suggestions. We started with the Fatoush salad and it was super fresh and flavorful and wonderful and amazing and I wanted to hug the chef. Then came the chicken kabob and vegetarian plate and what!??? The chicken was so moist and delectable. We had the tomato as our side. Yum. The vegetarian plate was great too. It was full of all the normal stuff you get with a Mediterranean vegetarian plate but its just that everything was done so well. And best of all the prices were reasonable.
