We had dinner at Ada's on the River on a weeknight to meet a vegetarian friend. Since Ada's has a nice vegetarian menu in addition to the meat menu, we snagged a reservation. It was a nice day so we seated outside, although it got a little too windy. For appetizers, we got Wood-Fried Chicken Thighs and Artisan Cheese Plate along with cocktails. Both dishes were delicious and nicely presented. For entrees, I had Crab Stuffed Carolina Trout which was impressive! We also shared coal-roasted mushrooms and coal-roasted vegetables. We were too stuffed to order dessert but our server gave us complimentary baklava. The service was excellent and the food was delicious! I would definitely love to return to try the steaks.

Was such a beautiful sunny Saturday and my hunnie and I decided to go down to old town and spend the evening just like we used to do when we first started dating. Originally we were going to Barca however they were crazy packed so we decided to just come here and I'm glad we did. We placed our name one the list to sit outside however we found a perfect spot at the bar. We love finding seats at the bar unfortunately there were no TV's but it was all good. More us time. My hunnie opted for an old Fashioned smoked with his fav Angel's Envy Rye and I tried the Balanced Algorithm. My drink was a bit toooo sweet!! Reminded me of a holiday drink lol but it was good. The "East Side" one of the bar tenders made was refreshing and delicious too! I really enjoyed this cocktail. It was giving Green Juice from Cabo with a shot of Hendricks lol For dinner my husband ordered the lamb chops. The lamb chops were fatty...not so much meat on them...however he said the flavor was good from what he was able to cut around. I ordered the mushrooms lasagna and it was just OK...very bland...& lacked flavor... The noodles were also a bit over cooked. I wasn't expecting crispy noodles. The sides were very good. We went with Brussels sprouts minus the bacon and the roasted sweet potatoes. Was a perfect date night. Perfect restaurant for date night, girls/guys nights out... Check them out! I'm glad we did. Happy Yelping!

Shout out to Peter G! We were a party of 9 celebrating a 40th Birthday. The restaurant accommodated us in the back room and Peter took great care of us! There wasn't a side dish that I tasted that I didn't like! We all passed around the shareable sides. For my main dish I had the pork chop which was cooked to perfection I am definitely returning to try other dishes and get my own serving of the lobster mac and cheese. Parking isn't the easiest. But I will plan accordingly.

I had a friend visiting for a family reunion and she was staying in old town, so we decided to try Ada's on a Friday night. We arrived at 7pm and snagged a table on the patio with a view of the river. Ada's had a few specials for food and cocktails. I went with the Chilean sea bass dinner special and margarita cocktail. My friend ordered the large crab cake and Brussels sprouts. Everything was really good the blackened sea bass could have offered a little more flavor but overall the dish was outstanding- I finished it all. My friend loved her crab cake and the Brussels which she was able to get them with no bacon. For dessert we asked our server for a recommendation and to our surprise he brought the peanut butter s'mores cakes. The dessert was three perfectly formed mini dessert that offered the perfect amount of flavor! The meal was outstanding, with perfect ambiance and great company. I'll definitely return to Ada's again.

Amazing spot next to the river deep in Alexandria, great for lunch or date night. We went during the day but at night I'm sure it's beautiful. Had wonderful Virginia oysters to start and they were medium size. I had the swordfish sandwich, perfect, the bread was so fresh and so were the veggies with a generous portion of fish. We had multiple people helping us and it felt great, good attention to details

I have been here a few times now and have nothing but great things to say. The location is awesome with great views. The service is excellent, and the food is great. If you are in Old Town, you have to put this on your list of places to try.

Food was delicious! We actually went in for lunch and wanted to try the chicken and we were bummed since it's a dinner option. We tried the angus burger and wedge salad! Both were delicious. Our burger was cooked perfectly medium rear and our wedge salad was bit only beautiful but delicious. The salad was not traditional and had a spicy chili on it. It was incredibly good. Did not disappoint. I would definitely come back again. I would come back for dinner and try the chicken. We sat out with the river view and it was a perfect day. Not too hot for a summer day. Our server was great other than forgetting our extra request for a pickle. He forgot, maybe he was busy.

Came back for Happy Hour which is only available at the bar or outside high tops. I came around 4:30 and didn't find any issues with seating at the bar but the restaurant did get fairly busy after that. The bartender was a little busy and so it took some time to get my order. We really enjoyed the Happy Hour bites Mini Lobster Roll - this was really good, decent amount of lobster and the buttered roll was delicious. French Dip Slider - flavor was amazing but a little difficult to eat. This fell apart pretty easily but overall, I really enjoyed it. Peruvian Steak Skewer - this was also very flavorful and cooked perfectly. My friend got the crab rangoon and she said that she also really enjoyed it. The only issue we had was we ordered last minute for Happy Hour for another French Dip and it was accidentally rung up under the individuals next to us. We asked after realizing it was put in 30 minutes ago and they offered either a comped drink or have the kitchen make another one even though it was only offered on the Happy Hour menu. I really enjoyed everything and would definitely come back again.

We went for brunch and really enjoyed the experience overall. The mocktails were fantastic everyone at the table liked them. I had the Cobb salad, which was very good, and my sister ordered the crab cake, which was also tasty and well prepared. We also tried one of the fish specials (I can't remember the name), which was just okay compared to the other dishes. The service was fast and casual, which worked well for brunch. I also ordered the vanilla chai crème brûlée. The flavor was good and unique, but the texture was a bit different from what I usually expect from a crème brûlée, so it wasn't my favorite version of the dessert. Overall, it was a great brunch experience and I would definitely return, especially for the mocktails and main dishes.

DELICIOUS! Had the fried chicken biscuit and had lobster mac and cheese( they were able to accommodate for brunch)! Both are a must try! Biscuit was light fluffy and not dry. Chicken and pimento weee the perfect combo and the lobster mac and cheese spoke for itself. Perfect balance of cheese and noodles and right amount of lobster. Service was spot on as well. Along with the views of water a must try for the brunch.

Happy Hour Review: Monday-Friday from 3-6pm, if you want to be outside they have limited hightop seating, first come first serve. I got a white cosmo for $9 and my friend got a Moscow mule for $17. The mini lobster roll was indeed mini, we asked them to cut it so we could share but didn't realize how mini it was at $8. You could finish it in 2 bites. Waitress was nice

Ada's on the River is the perfect spot in Old Town to enjoy a beautiful, sunny day. Sitting outside on the patio with views of the water makes for a relaxing meal. The service was fast and helpful. We went for seafood dishes and tried the giant crab cake and the tuna tartare. The crab cake had big chunks of delicious crab. Both were fresh, flavorful, and had a nice presentation. With its waterfront views, welcoming service, and strong seafood options, Ada's is a great place to unwind and enjoy a meal outdoors. I highly recommend visiting when the weather is nice.

Beautiful restaurant and great service. The food is delicious. The steaks are great, but a bit pricey.

The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was amazing, and we had such a great time from beginning to end. Our waiter, Ibrahim, was phenomenal. He took exceptional care of our table, was professional, attentive, and truly elevated the entire dining experience. He walked us through all of the specials -- from the Chilean sea bass to the espresso-rubbed filet mignon -- and everything sounded so good that we ended up trying a little bit of everything. And let me tell you... every single dish delivered. For appetizers we had the Rockefeller oysters, whiskey shrimp and kale Caesar salads. For entrees, I personally had the red snapper entree and the scallop entree, and I also ordered the ribeye for the table. Other dishes included the espresso filet, a Mediterranean branzino along with another entrée featuring crab cake, shrimp, and salmon. Everything was flavorful, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. Everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals. One of the highlights of the evening was when Ibrahim smoked our drinks tableside for us. It added such a fun and memorable touch to an already special night. He also took the time to explain the history behind the restaurant, and it was such an informative and meaningful story. Learning about the history made the experience feel even more special and gave us an even greater appreciation for dining there. Overall, it was an outstanding birthday dinner and an experience I will absolutely remember. I will definitely be returning, and if you're looking for a beautiful restaurant with amazing food, wonderful service, and a memorable atmosphere, I highly recommend checking them out. Go hungry, enjoy yourself, and have fun -- you won't be disappointed.

He truly radiates light and joy, setting the tone for the entire evening. Our server, Alison, was an absolute gem--attentive, personable, and on top of everything. The food was outstanding. We ordered the ribeye, New York steak, and filet mignon, all cooked to perfection. The Oysters Rockefeller were superb! I had asked for my daughter's meal to come out as soon as possible, and they made it happen without hesitation, which we really appreciated. For sides, we had the Brussels sprouts--perfectly balanced, sweet but not overly so--and the creamed corn, which was absolutely on point. I don't eat beef or pork, but after watching a review from Peaks100, I saw that the manager also recommended the seafood along with the steaks. My wife eats steak, so I took her there for that, and I planned to order seafood. Spoiler alert: my wife enjoyed her steak. Now that I got that out of the way, let me continue. https://youtu.be/5uPuX7Fk_cE?si=H7NI2vI_uMWAeREq Appetizer Octopus Ceviche -- $18 I told our server that I didn't want any pork on it. She seemed surprised and told me it didn't come with pork. I had already looked up "pancetta crumble" and knew pancetta was pork, so I showed her the menu. She then said she knew what pancetta was and would make sure there was no pork on my plate. The ceviche itself didn't have much flavor. I didn't really enjoy it, but it wasn't bad enough for me to complain or send it back. Dinner Housemade "Parkerhouse" Rolls -- $8 These came out fresh and hot with butter. They were good. No complaints. Chef's Fresh Catch -- $50 The fresh catch was grouper. The fish had some salt on it and a nice char, but the heavy cream-based sauce on the plate didn't have much flavor. Again, I didn't really enjoy it, but not enough to complain or return the dish. Jumbo Lump Crab Oscar -- $28 Wow, this was not good at all. I probably should have sent it back, but I didn't. It was tough and rubbery (see pic), almost like it had been left under the broiler too long. I took it home with me, but I honestly will probably end up throwing it away. Sides Crispy Brussels Sprouts -- $13 These were good, just like many of the other reviews mentioned. Yukon Gold Potato Purée -- $12 They were okay. Nothing to write home about. Dessert Coconut Cream Bread Pudding -- $14 It was just okay. The coconut flakes was too much, in my opinion, and eventually became overwhelming. It didn't feel very balanced. Overall, I felt the service could have been better, and most of the food needed more flavor, especially at this price point. Nothing was so terrible that I felt the need to ask for a manager, but I also didn't enjoy most of what I ordered. I ordered it, so I paid for it and kept it moving. Also, a 25% gratuity was already added to the bill. Maybe that is why the service was lacking, because they already knew they were going to get 25% "allegedly". Honestly, I don't think I'll be back. There are too many other good places in the DMV where you can have better food and a better overall experience for the same price or less.

It was delicious too! I don't even like oysters, but I liked these. Next came the Betty's buns and beet salad. The beet salad is such an interesting preparation with ricotta, raw and cooked beets, some herbs, orange segments and pistachios. I really enjoyed the brightness of the dish. And for dessert - a spongy apple cider cake and creamy chocolate cremeux. I don't even like apples, but this cake was amazing. It had beautiful accompaniments as well. And the chocolate cremeux was served with beautifully poached pears and cranberries. We loved both. We both selected the salad, fruitti de mari, strawberries with Chantilly cream, and a piece of bread pudding. The Sauvignon Blanc arrived nicely chilled. Our waiter poured the wine into the glasses for us. Unfortunately, the glasses smelled like it was wiped with a cloth that had mildew on it. The manager was alerted and she poured us fresh wine into cleaner glasses. The salad was basic with their house dressing. Our entrees were underwhelming. The red sauce wasn't seasoned & the crabmeat was questionable. I was shocked to see a spiny lobster in my entree instead of a regular lobster. My lobster was mushy and had to be replaced. The 1/2 piece of bread pudding and cup of strawberries was alright. I appreciate the manager for what she did to fix the problems, but the quality of the food unfortunately has gone down. I'm really not sure what peeved me more: $4 oysters, $23 burgers, or the $24 risotto that I ordered that the server left off the ticket. 5/6 people in our party were served their entrees. Then a manager randomly shows up and tells me my order of risotto was somehow left off the ticket. So I'm sitting there like a schmuck for 15 minutes waiting for my order while everyone else is eating. Risotto finally came and was undercooked and lukewarm. Then, the bill comes and the risotto wasn't even comped. Don't eat here. Plus, they have a tiny menu. Tiny menus are a godsend if a restaurant does these items well. But Kiln falls so far short on this notion that it's just sad. Lastly, don't eat here. You have a choice in restaurants in historic Old Town Alexandria and Kiln shouldn't be one.

Date Night | Moody | Mocktails…read more Date Night: This is an excellent date night spot--versatile enough for any mood or occasion. Whether you're stopping in for shared appetizers and drinks or settling in for a full dinner, the setting and menu make it easy to relax and connect. The food and drink options are diverse, and the location is ideal. After dinner, you can continue the night with a visit to the hotel's rooftop bar or the cozy speakeasy down the hall--both perfect extensions to a romantic evening. Moody: The overall aesthetic feels like a modern Magnolia Farms--moody yet warm. The space is designed with rich wood tones, soft lighting, and low ceilings, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Large windows bring in just enough natural light during the day, giving the place a beautiful glow at night. The seating areas are well spaced, offering privacy for deep conversation without feeling isolated. It's the kind of place where you can linger for hours without feeling rushed. Mocktails: The mocktail selection is one of the highlights here. As someone staying sober while my wife is pregnant, I really appreciated the variety and creativity of their non-alcoholic options. The bartender even offered to make any drink on the menu with a non-alcoholic spirit, which was a thoughtful touch. It's refreshing to find a place that takes its mocktail menu as seriously as its cocktail list. Pro Tips: - 10% military discount--just ask your server. - No on-site parking, so plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to find a spot or use valet. - Bonus: If you're out for date night, make sure to check out the rooftop bar or the hidden speakeasy afterward--they're both worth the visit.
