It's been way too long since I've taken advantage of Matchbox's happy hour menu, and after this visit, I'm wondering why I waited so long! After a rough work week my best friend and I stopped in to relax with some food and drinks. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect for winding down. We shared the California sushi roll, which was incredibly fresh and tasty. We also ordered the Truffle & Wild Mushroom Pizza and the Matchbox Burger and both were delicious. I enjoyed a glass of wine while my friend raved about the Old Fashioned saying it was made perfectly. Great food, great drinks, and great service. What more can you ask for? read more

Good location, just outside the Metro station. Patiently decorated two-story restaurant, upstairs is open to the elements with ceiling fans, but covered. Downstairs was nice. I liked the cilantro lime chicken salad that I had, it doesn't have a lot of chicken, actually not very much at all for the price, but it was tasty. I was a little... annoyed at the whole "premium protein" option. Which is nothing more than shrimp, steak, or salmon. I mean, that's nice and all, but it's six dollars it's a rip off. Actually it's quite expensive overall for what you're getting, but the selection is eclectic and diverse. Five pm on a Monday was not busy at all. Service was good. Overall, there are plenty of things that I would've loved to have tried, but the price just pushed it too far. It's expensive. For a date, it's a great location. For dinner with friends, pretty good. Typically, matchbox is somewhere you can go that's pretty casual and fast service. I'm not sure what's going on at the Pentagon City location but the service is usually oddly slow and delayed. I thought it was a one off my last time here, but this proves to just be their thing. It won't even be crowded and the servers forget things you ordered and everything moves extremely slow. For instance, my appetizer came out well after my main dish which kind of missed the point of ordering an app. Also, it took 10+ minutes to get water after we were initially asked by our server. So not q great experience unless you have time to just wait. The food was standard and expected. I really enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip. The wings were extremely salty and didn't taste like the flavor I ordered, but I was short on time after already waiting forever so I made due. The brussels sprouts were delicious! I highly recommend Matchbox's bottomless (food) brunch, the food is DELICIOUS and there are so many options! My favorites by far are the French toast, the blueberry lemon pancakes and the fish and grits. When I tell you these items are bomb, I'm not even playing! Because I love it so much, I went with one group of friends on 2/1/2026, then I went with another set of friends on 2/22/2026 and then most recently on 2/28/2026. May 4th, 2025 We visited this location w a fav couple of ours to experience their ayce brunch, etc. My gf's hubby located this place on social media and the reel peaked all of our interests. Not only is there an all you eat brunch, but it includes seafood. This place was easy to locate. We parked in the garage closest to Macy's at Pentagon City, walked straights through in the mall, staying to the left, and went out of the doors that placed us on the restaurant property. We were kindly greeted. We arrived in time for our reservation but still had a short wait. This place was very nice. It was open, spacious, had high ceilings, and a lot of seating placements including bar seating. We were taken upstairs to our table. Upstairs was a popcorn machine, and other cutesy areas of food exploration. There was a live DJ that was bumping sounds for all generations to enjoy. Very nice location, well appointed furnishings, and a friendly staff. Stopped by for a late lunch and there was plenty of seating. We were seated upstairs so it allowed us to conversate without many distractions. I had the grilled chicken with avocado sandwich and it was fantastic. We also had a cheese pizza that had a bit of a spicier sauce than expected. A member of our party had no tolerance for the spicy flavor and they remade the pizza with a mild margherita sauce that was much more to their liking. Family member had a birthday celebration for brunch. I wasn't even aware of the brunch option. I loved that it was unlimited. I will admit we had a really large party and I believe that contributed to a lag in service. I did enjoy the brunch menu options. It was busy -but the seating is very well spread out-and we felt we could sit and enjoy a game of banana grams without holding on to a table. Plenty of options on the first and second floor. Great location right beside the Pentagon Fashion Center and a huge indoor area with seating on two levels and a large patio. I asked for quiet and they took me to the back booth area of the upstairs. It was fairly quiet but there was a large business event going on nearby. I tried the Cobb salad and added fries and it was delicious. Prices were somewhat high for the salad and fries ($40) but, on par with this area. I saw this restaurant being advertised on IG and had to put it on my Yelp list. My husband actually saw the same advertisement and planned for us to brunch with friends. Yay!!! Gold star for him. This was my first time in this area which is definitely packed with so many things to do. The mall is packed like back in the day when people actually went to the mall to shop. We were able to park in the garage attached to the mall and walk over to the restaurant. The restaurant is gorgeous with great decor including a DJ. It has two stories including an outdoor patio area. Brunch is all day and you can order as much a you want. They have a small bar area set up with foods like tacos and popcorn . My only complaint was the food is COLD. I asked the waiter several times to warm my food up in which he did but, every time I ordered a new item it initially came out COLD or Luke warm. WTH. I like my food Hot. I was truly disappointed about this. Other than that we had a good time with good vibes and great atmosphere. This has been my 1st time visiting this location in about 5yrs. I choose this location because my last visit was great. However this time I was not pleased at all. I will say our server Jesus was very friendly, polite, and quick. Thank you Jesus! Now the food, I was very disappointed. I ordered the ribs with fries. When it came out, I felt like I was being puked or ordered a kids meal. The ribs hardly had any meat on the bones and overcooked. The fries were lukewarm. I came here for brunch with my family and I had high hopes however the food was really disappointing. I tried the $62 brunch menu that comes with an unlimited food menu and add on drinks for $7. I initially started with the stuffed french toast. It wasn't bad but it wasn't my preference. The French toast was made with a light coating of something idk.. I just know I didn't care for all that. Then I tried the steak and eggs with a chimichurri sauce and it was mediocre the food had no flavor and the sauce tasted basic. The last thing I tried was the pizza and it was OK. I really enjoyed the customer service and it was a very nice vibe inside of the restaurant. I love the catfish and grits the mumble wings could've been a little bit crispier, but they still were pretty great and the barbecue jerk chicken pizza is definitely something you should add on your list. Me: "So what kind of tuna is in the tuna tacos? Ahi?" Server: "Red." The tuna tacos turned out to be poke style and were really good. Everyone I talked to was happy with what they got. My teens' margherita pizza tasted good but the crust was much thinner than usual. Even though only one of my twins had ever had pork ribs before (and even then, only once), they decided for some reason to order these in front of their kosher grandmother and her friends from temple. We ended the meal with sugar doughnuts - like beignets - with chocolate and strawberry dipping sauces. They were pretty good, too. We were unable to reserve the outdoor area for a big group unless we ordered a set menu. The egg scramble had a good flavor and not overly seasoned. The breakfast potatoes were soft and tender on the inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. - Location. Conveniently located at a mall and close to the Pentagon City metro station. The layout inside is pretty large- 2 stories, which is probably helpful when it's very busy. - Price. Reasonable. For breakfast for 2 for a little under $40 is pretty good value for money. From what I saw on the rest of their menu, the same applies. What's not - Service. Lacking. To be fair, my friend and I were there when it wasn't busy (I.e., breakfast). It does not appear to be a large staff during the morning. However, the staff that are there were terrible at following up with simple things, like refilling water glasses. After they gave us our first round of water, no one even asked if we needed refills. Definitely lack of attention to detail. Another example, the fire alarm went off and no one came to us to tell us what safety measures to take and/or if it was nothing to worry about. It's just outside the Pentagon Mall so, a great alternative to the food court. The place is two floors with an abundance of seating, darker and more intimate than the food court too. I was there with a group of eight, I noticed a wedding photo shoot going on in another corner and a couple sitting alone somewhere in the middle, other than that there was hardly anyone there for lunch on black Friday.
