    Matchbox Meat - Deelish!
    Alison G.

I highly recommend Matchbox's bottomless (food) brunch, the food is DELICIOUS and there are so many options! My favorites by far are the French toast, the blueberry lemon pancakes and the fish and grits. When I tell you these items are bomb, I'm not even playing! Because I love it so much, I went with one group of friends on 2/1/2026, then I went with another set of friends on 2/22/2026 and then most recently on 2/28/2026. Tell me I have a problem without telling me! I am clearly addicted! Chill, I am back to my normal/healthier eating habits; three days won't hurt me! Anyway, highly recommend! P.S., other things I've tried and thoroughly enjoyed - steak and eggs, mini burgers, Caesar salad, chicken wings, hot artichoke & spinach dip and the chicken fettuccini alfredo.

Very nice location, well appointed furnishings, and a friendly staff. Stopped by for a late lunch and there was plenty of seating. We were seated upstairs so it allowed us to conversate without many distractions. I had the grilled chicken with avocado sandwich and it was fantastic. We also had a cheese pizza that had a bit of a spicier sauce than expected. A member of our party had no tolerance for the spicy flavor and they remade the pizza with a mild margherita sauce that was much more to their liking. The only thing missing for me is that they have a very limited menu. I would like to see a few more food options.

Great service! However, the seats were kind of dirty before we sat down. I really enjoyed the mini burgers (probably will get more than 3 next time!) and the crispy Brussels! Some were a little undercooked though. The dragonfruit nojito was very sweet so I'll probably stick with water next time. The pepperoni hot honey pizza was pretty good. I liked the super thin crust but my husband didn't, so if you're a thin crust pizza person, highly recommend!

Family member had a birthday celebration for brunch. I wasn't even aware of the brunch option. I loved that it was unlimited. I will admit we had a really large party and I believe that contributed to a lag in service. I did enjoy the brunch menu options. Standout was the steak with chimichurri sauce and potatoes In addition to the menu they have a taco and pancake bar. The breakfast bar was disappointing. Staff did not do a good job keeping it stocked with fresh items, we kept having to ask. Would I go back...sure! Our party size was probably overwhelming but I'm open to give them another try

The staff and overall atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. It was busy -but the seating is very well spread out-and we felt we could sit and enjoy a game of banana grams without holding on to a table. Plenty of options on the first and second floor. I'm not sure its it's because we are replants from Louisiana and Texas repotted, but the pizzas were lacking flavor and spices. I don't mean "hot" spice I mean-garlic/onions/Parmesan and oregano/ basil. This isn't the first place I try pizza since I have been here and both places lack flavor. The red tomatoes in the fried risotto and the risotto on the other hand were fantastic- I'm giving it a 5 on the risotto and tomato alone and the service, & atmosphere-actually the seafood crab soup was good as well. I would have paid more -for either more crab, shrimp or lobster chunks!

I saw this restaurant being advertised on IG and had to put it on my Yelp list. My husband actually saw the same advertisement and planned for us to brunch with friends. Yay!!! Gold star for him. This was my first time in this area which is definitely packed with so many things to do. The mall is packed like back in the day when people actually went to the mall to shop. We were able to park in the garage attached to the mall and walk over to the restaurant. The restaurant is gorgeous with great decor including a DJ. It has two stories including an outdoor patio area. Brunch is all day and you can order as much a you want. They have a small bar area set up with foods like tacos and popcorn . My only complaint was the food is COLD. I asked the waiter several times to warm my food up in which he did but, every time I ordered a new item it initially came out COLD or Luke warm. WTH. I like my food Hot. I was truly disappointed about this. Other than that we had a good time with good vibes and great atmosphere. I will love to give this restaurant another try but, I will definitely have to bring a mini microwave or warmer with me.

Overcooked ribs and hardly no meat and lukewarm fries

This has been my 1st time visiting this location in about 5yrs. I choose this location because my last visit was great. However this time I was not pleased at all. I will say our server Jesus was very friendly, polite, and quick. Thank you Jesus! Now the food, I was very disappointed. I ordered the ribs with fries. When it came out, I felt like I was being puked or ordered a kids meal. The ribs hardly had any meat on the bones and overcooked. The fries were lukewarm. My date ordered the bacon cheeseburger, asked for 1 slice of gouda cheese and egg fried hard. His burger came out with cheddar cheese on it, and egg Sunnyside up. Our date was great because we just over looked things and had a great conversation, but we both said we would probably not return. Disappointed at the food at this location.

I came here for brunch with my family and I had high hopes however the food was really disappointing. I tried the $62 brunch menu that comes with an unlimited food menu and add on drinks for $7. I initially started with the stuffed french toast. It wasn't bad but it wasn't my preference. The French toast was made with a light coating of something idk.. I just know I didn't care for all that. Then I tried the steak and eggs with a chimichurri sauce and it was mediocre the food had no flavor and the sauce tasted basic. The last thing I tried was the pizza and it was OK. It wasn't bad but for a flame grilled oven pizza I thought it would be like a little crispy maybe a little more sauce would've helped but all over the experience was pretty mediocre. I spent $92 as a whole including gratuity and honestly, I wasn't a fan. I won't be back oh and I also tried the cinnamon rolls and it wasnt good. I'll give it to like 6/10 overall. Long story short it was mid

    Catfish grits
    Tori G.

I really enjoyed the customer service and it was a very nice vibe inside of the restaurant. I love the catfish and grits the mumble wings could've been a little bit crispier, but they still were pretty great and the barbecue jerk chicken pizza is definitely something you should add on your list. I also enjoy the strawberry lemon drop martini and I highly recommend that you go the early part of brunch before a lot of other people go there. It's a really great deal for $49. You also get popcorn make your own waffles, ice cream and tacos and I'm leaving their food and ready to go to bed lol.

    Apple Pear Salad with Salmon

I visited this Matchbox on a Tuesday for lunch with a colleague. The establishment was very clean and busy. Pretty common for lunch. The staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the Apple and Pear Salad and added grilled salmon on the side. It was super delicious! It comes tossed in salad dressing so request it on the side if that's not your preference. Overall great experience!

    Crab + Shrimp Fettuccine
    Monica D.

We went for a causal date night and this place did not disappoint. The menu had a variety of options, from pasta, pizza, sandwiches, and entrees. The crab and shrimp fettuccine had great flavor and was very filling. Our server was attentive and nice. Everything was delightful!

Great place to grab a bite and a drink after shopping!! This location is usually busy but we are always able to grab seats at the bar!! Yesterday we were taken care of by Ramsey. He was friendly, professional, but seemed a little distracted... he was refreshing the bar, but could do a better job checking on his guest. Overall he was a good bartender!! The drinks were surely delicious!! Our food took a while to come out, which isn't usually the case. We only ordered apps. The ambiance is always nice here, I did notice a smell when sitting on the side of the bar near the bathroom. So try not to sit on that side of smells bother you. I will return to order a blueberry coconut margarita, since they were out of the blueberry infused tequila yesterday!!

    Matchbox Scramble
    Rachel S.

Came here for the first time for for breakfast with a friend. We both ordered their Matchbox scramble, so total came out to approximately $37 (not including tip). What's hot - Menu. Good variety. There appears to be something for everyone, possibly vegans, as well. Their brunch menu is simple and straightforward. - Quality. Pretty good. The egg scramble had a good flavor and not overly seasoned. The breakfast potatoes were soft and tender on the inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. - Location. Conveniently located at a mall and close to the Pentagon City metro station. The layout inside is pretty large- 2 stories, which is probably helpful when it's very busy. - Price. Reasonable. For breakfast for 2 for a little under $40 is pretty good value for money. From what I saw on the rest of their menu, the same applies. What's not - Service. Lacking. To be fair, my friend and I were there when it wasn't busy (I.e., breakfast). It does not appear to be a large staff during the morning. However, the staff that are there were terrible at following up with simple things, like refilling water glasses. After they gave us our first round of water, no one even asked if we needed refills. Definitely lack of attention to detail. Another example, the fire alarm went off and no one came to us to tell us what safety measures to take and/or if it was nothing to worry about. Final Answer Would be willing to come back, but not a first choice.

It's natural unforced southern hospitality from A-Z. Also of note If you're able to please ask for the (Chef's Table) and thank me later! I love a good chicken and waffles so I was eager to try them out. I got to try the regular classic, peach ,and sample the Mac and cheese waffle. They were decent and I enjoyed what I had but it didn't move me to chorus. The fried green tomatoes were delicious. The biscuits for a cause were incredible. Hands down my favorite. Warm, fluffy, and paired perfectly with the jam and butter. The roasted half bird dish was a item on the special menu. They had a special on mimosas and had a few different dishes that weren't on the regular menu. The chicken was juicy and seasoned well. The green beans were nice and savory. Though the Mac and cheese left a bit to be desired. They complemented the dish but the green beans were definitely the standout. All in all, I'm not disappointed that I went but I can't say that I would return on my own accord. It's a very popular restaurant but I found the food to be a bit mid unfortunately.

When we made the reservation in advance, we called to ask if happy hour was everywhere or just at the bar; they said everywhere, so we booked a table. Plot twist, it's only at the bar / downstairs :))) We arrived 15 minutes early, so while they got our table ready, we ordered at the bar. 5 stars for the bartender. If I could review her, the host, and the happy hour prices in isolation, I would! They moved us upstairs, we sat down, and immediately saw the menus were different. We asked the gentleman bringing waters about happy hour and he sent the waiter over. The waiter, with about 2% helpfulness, shared that happy hour is only downstairs. I mentioned that we had called in advance to ask. We asked if it would be possible to have that menu or perhaps move. The conversation felt like pulling teeth. He said, with much dismissiveness, it was up to the host downstairs to move and if they had availability and left. (Fair, we move, he doesn't get his tip. An alternative? Give us the happy hour menu, still get your tip. Better yet, just be slightly helpful?) The host downstairs found us a table but shared it was booked at 6:15 so we needed to be in and out. It was no problem because we had arrived before 5 (early, remember?). Although, it took 15 minutes (I timed it!) for anyone to come bring waters or address us as their table. A little hard to operate with urgency when no one takes your order!! I got up, told the host stand, and they sent a server over, and he proceeded to come back all of three times. We also had to flag him down to get our check, while we sat with empty waters that were never once refilled. We had pizza, cod sliders, and half orders of aglio e olio pasta. The cod sliders were more breadding than fish, but the flavor was decent. The pasta was delicious. No five star Italian meal, but it hit the spot and the portion was plentiful. I didn't try the pizza but it was 12 inches, piping hot, and the two eating it couldn't finish it. The food came out quickly and hot. I think we spent under or just about $100 for four folks to have dinner + drinks, so the prices are really solid. Perhaps you get what you pay for though? Both of our male servers seemed annoyed to be dealing with us and mostly unhelpful. Noteworthy mention: there was a female server who was kind enough to bring us a brown paper bag for our to go box. She was running around and her tables seemed well cared for. Disappointed in my experience and the customer service.

Since many menu items were marked with a "G," I worried my options would be very limited, especially for the unlimited brunch experience. Thankfully, our server, Emma, immediately put me at ease. While my husband and I were deciding whether to stay, the manager, Antonio, came to our table after Emma shared my dietary concerns. His kindness completely changed the experience. I was able to enjoy a variety of delicious dishes, the mimosas were a great value, and the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, with floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light. What I'll remember most, though, is how genuinely cared for I felt. Before we left, Antonio stopped by one last time to make sure I was happy with my meal and that all of my needs had been met. My husband had put so much love and intention into choosing this restaurant, and thanks to Emma and Antonio, we both left with happy hearts and full bellies. If you have food intolerances or dietary restrictions, I hope this review gives you confidence to visit Ambar. Their team didn't just accommodate my needs. They made me feel welcome, respected, and cared for. That's the kind of hospitality that earns five stars from me.

New: TG corn ribs. Delicious and creative (see my picture). It's a new interpretation of corn on…read morethe cob. Mixed grill is now more expensive (as part of the Ambar Experience at Home set: grill). Though now you can choose individual ingredients (chicken, lamb and so on as opposed to mixed grill which is no + $4) Baklava shrunk! In the past the portion was generous. Now: only 3 tiny pieces.
