We were 30 minutes late to our reservation and they seated us anyway!! They were so kind and we were so grateful! We loved the ambiance, really perfect for a family dinner right before the Paul Simon concert at the Prudential Center. The service was very good, constantly attentive, and gave great suggestions. We especially enjoyed the very fresh and delicious sangria, in addition to the Paelha Valenciana and the Peito de Frango a San Jacob and highly recommend them all! Portions are huge, the paella alone fed my father at the restaurant, and then the leftovers fully fed 2 more people the next day!! I've been to Adega once, for lunch with a friend, and I would like to return. I started with a wonderful, traditional white bean and kale soup, accompanied by a basket of very nice Portuguese breads that I assume are baked locally if not on-site. My main course was monkfish francaise, which was quite good -- lightly battered, with a not overwhelming butter/lemon sauce. The side vegetables were overcooked, but that did not detract from the experience. My friend had octopus Gallega and a side of broccoli rabe. He was disappointed with the octopus, but I attributed that to an unfamiliarity with the dish, which was more mild and subtle in spice and flavor than he thought it would be. read more

So we came to what they go for my parents anniversary. We had a reservations and we receded on time. They were very patient. We ordered two starters/appetizers shrimp and garlic and the Portuguese chorizo. The shrimp and garlic was very good. And the chorizo as well as per my parents they said it was very flavorful. I ordered the skirt steak stuffed salmon regular grilled salmon and a T-bone steak. Everything was cooked perfectly the steak was nice and juicy and the salmon that salmon was perfect. I used to visit Adega Grill for multiple times during lunch (in the bar area). The food is, for the most part, really good and the people are generally friendly. The Salada de Verau (spelling?) is one of my favorites along with the filet mignon rapped in bacon (medium well). The proportions are large, so come hungry and with a friendly attitude. This place was ridiculous! The sangria was amazing , we got a small pitcher for two and it hit the spot. Then we shared the chorizo sautéed generously in garlic. All I can say is yum. The service was great, but our main waiter could have been friendlier. Otherwise the food was excellent. I got the skirt steak, could have shared with 3 other people... My only complaint would be the older gentleman in the front almost always seems annoyed when you walk through the door. I even checked the website to see their hours of operation because each time I've gone he looks a little angry. We overheard other customers saying the same! 4 of us shared the shellfish platter for 2 (Parilhada de Marisco) at $58.95. It came with lobster, lobster tails, prawns, jumbo shrimp, king crab legs, clams, New Zealand mussels and scallops, served with saffron rice. It was like paella only nothing was dry the way paella can be. The saffron rice was at the bottom, full of flavor, and the huge pieces of shellfish were piled on top, each juicy and flavorful. I'd come back just for this dish. Along side the platter came a large portion of crispy potato chips. They seemed more air popped, void of salt but also of flavor. I prefer the traditional kind. Go big or go home. We also had escargot in green sauce. Thr escargot were large, plump and equally delicious. We also had a dish of shrimp in garlic sauce which almost seemed like it was cooked with those spicy and tangy yellow banana peppers, although I didn't see any in the dish. It had so much more flavor than the typical shrimp and garlic sauce you get at typical Spanish restaurants. The only down side was the sangria. It tasted a bit like Hawaiian Punch, with not much fruit floating in it. I'm not sure if there was any alcohol in it either. But the food was so good, I pushed aside my unworthy sangria and focused on the food. I'd highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to return. read more

We ordered the chorizo appetizer (served flaming at the table). It was huge but overcooked and a bit dry. Two of us ordered the paella valencia. Again, the portions were massive but the seafood was all overcooked. As an example, 15 minutes after we were served, I stilled burned my mouth on the paella. At our table, the skirt steak and a grilled veal chop were the best entrees. Both were cooked perfectly I think they should also review their wine list pricing. Last might was my second time here. The 1st was a month ago for a bday and last night date with hubby. i had the same waiter both times :( the same mean guy other reviwers on here complain about) pros: free parking in the garage. Decent portions. The food deserves more stars really. cons: extremely bad customer service. We had a reservation for 8.15 and didn't get a table till 8.45. i know it was a packed night and the hostess was swamped but as a former hostess you at least comp. a drink of cheap house wine if someone is waiting more than 15 mins.... That didn't happen. Finally get a table and order. we didn't order drinks because all this waiting was eating into our babysitters time... So just entres. The waiter ( older guy with glasses) sneered at us. Literally sneered and huffed away. Took an hour to get our food. My steak ordered rare was well done.... Ugh. i had asked for a sub of mashed potatoes and the manager had to step in and make that happen because the waiter was about to make a scene telling me i couldn't. the rude waiter never even asked if we wanted dessert and we don't want to spend even more money with bad service. No one asked if everything was ok until the busboy clearing our plates...i like the bacalao here and the drinks are good but i will never be back and im taking my friends with me. A restaurant in the price category of adega is supposed to be a dining experience which is steeped in casual luxury.... the waiter we had really ruined the evening amd for a new mom who doesn't get out much without baby... that really sucks. The manager or owner needs to retrain his staff(or at least that one guy) to be much more professional, accommodating and courteous. i wish i could give it 4 stars for food and no stars for service. read more

Being determined to find a great Portuguese restaurant for a pre-Christmas dinner with amazing food. We went to a nearby restaurant, however the 45 - 1 hour wait and long line was insane, and a turn-off. So we went up the block and stumbled up this hidden GEM - and I'm so glad we did. Wasn't sure of how good the food was, so I googled it quickly & saw the good reviews. I said okay, the place looked nice from the outside and crowded inside, a good sign. Not sure of what to expect, we entered the place. Once inside, the restaurant was beautifully designed, rustic and dimly lit. We were quickly and graciously greeted by the hostess and manager, who told us the wait would be 25 minutes. I said, okay fair enough. So the manager escorted us to the bar area for the wait. We had the Oyster Bay, New Zealand Savignon Blanc wine. Despite the bar being crowded, the bartender provided us with nice and friendly service. Shortly after, the manager came by within the specified time frame & took our drinks to our table. We got a great corner table on the upper level, and our waiter and the staff were amazing and very attentive. I ordered the Paella Marinheira with a sour apply martini and my friend had the chorizo espanhol and chicken with garlic sauce. I have to say, having high standards, I was highly impressed (which is very hard to do). Not only was the food amazing and to die for, but the portions were huge. The martini was delicious and strong, just the way I like it. Having a particular taste for 5 star restaurants, with some of my favorite places being the Water Club, Sea Grill, Peter Luger and Le Relais De Venise in NYC among others. This place did not disappoint. The food was excellent and the attentive service impeccable. The prices were reasonable too, definitely worth every penny. In addition, I had no idea there was a club with a DJ, on the other side of the restaurant. We stepped inside, and the place and the music, felt as if you were in a Manhattan night club - a rare find. What are the chances of finding such a place - one in a million !! Not only was the food, killer drinks and service outstanding, but with a night club inside. WOW, now I was blown away. A true GEM, I can't stop raving about it. This place is now, my go to restaurant when I'm in NJ - wouldn't go anywhere else. I would definitely highly recommend this place to anyone in search of great food, exceptional service, atmosphere and an amazing experience. I would give it a higher star rating than 5, if I could. First we ordered sandwich NO cheese but we received sandwich WITH cheese moreover the bartender charged us for EXTRA cheese. The new decor at the bar. Wine bar style. Home Depot style. Eh. The same hot Brazilian (Brasilian) chicks in the de rigeuer black dress slinky uniform. Hot, sexy, cold, brusque, businesslike. Did I say hot? Yes. So, they were there. Oh, the food. The service. The wine. It is usually cheaper at the bar. We sat down, crowded, nice to find two seats near each other. Price increase on wine. Noted. Glass of wine, 8 bucks, served in large glass. So the wine can breathe, I guess. It breathed. Not much in there. I breathed it in swiftly. I guess it's the five ounce pour. A decent New Zealand Savignon blanc. They make that variety great down there and it was excellent. And eight bucks. It went well with my salmon. The big plate came out and I was impressed. At first. A large square plate, with greens - arugula- set in the middle, with two and half inch by the same square pieces of decently grilled salmon squares on each corner. It looked impressive. Looked, as I said, at first. Then I realized, I have a plate of dry, unwashed, slightly brown on some edges, arugula greens. No dressing. Nothing. Nada. No dressing. Not washed. Dry. Leaves. I asked the waitress where the dressing was? She looked at me with blankness. Uh... you want some? Yeah. OK. Well, what do you have? I had to ask... I picked the honey mustard. Thick. I could have turned the little bowl upside down and it would have stuck to the bowl. Ech. The small amount of salmon pieces were done well. Maybe there were five pieces. Small. And that big, dry, wilted, dressing-less arugula rabbit food in the middle of the plate. Crap. I thought that. Crap. Before the meal... any bread? Olive oil? Oh, you want some? I had to ask. Sopa, it read on the menu. Soup? Oh, you want some? I had to ask. I had to ask for anything they should have offerred, informed, told me, shoved at me, given me, and helped me to feel like I was being served. No one asked how the meal was, how we were doing, nothing. The people next to us were loud, cursing, yelling. Dressed up to go clubbing and acting like they were ready to brawl and throw trash at a football game. Or, futbol game. Low class. The bar has started attracting low clientele with some money on a one night out burn, obviously. Great work, guys at Adega. The little guys who run the place. You know who you are. Great work. Down grading your food, downgrading your service, upping your price, but- Bless you, keeping the same hot chicks in those great outfits at the bar. At least you know your business. So, if you want hot chicks to look at, mediocre food, poor service and overpriced wine, low clientele to share space with, Adega Grill, the new, unimproved Adega Grill, is your place to go to- or avoid. First time here and i was absolutely satisfied. Food was great, I found a new fav wine,attentive service.. It was a rainnyy night so the aftmosfere was perfect. I try to be very selective with my 5-star reviews. I try to only give these ratings to places that I have a phenomenal experience at and really can't find anything wrong with. Adega fits the bill. I came here recently for a rehearsal dinner, so I admit, I didn't have the traditional dining experience. Our party had the room all the way to the back of the restaurant and up to the right. Decor in the room looked great and they had it set up perfectly for our party. I pretty much drank beer while I was here but everyone at my table loved the sangria. I am not a fan of sangria, in general, but the consensus was that Adega had some very good sangria. I will break the meal up into 3 parts - appetizers, entree/meal, dessert. Everything except dessert was served family style. The appetizers were awesome and plentiful. It seemed like every couple of minutes they were putting a new dish at our table. My favorite was the garlic shrimp. I don't know what it is about that dish but it tastes so good to me. This was done almost perfectly. I also liked their version of the clams casino, there was a very good chorizo dish and they even served us a very good salad. The calamari was decent and there are probably a few other apps that I am just forgetting. That's how much food there was. For our meal, we served what seemed like a skirt steak and paella. This was probably only about the 2nd or 3rd time I have had paella and it was excellent. Great shrimp, scallops and lobster. Even the rice the seafood was served over tasted great. All presentation of the food looked great, as well. The skirt steak was very good, too, but I did prefer the paella. I would go back just for that dish. The dinner was very good and there was plenty of it. Then, when I thought the meal couldn't get any better, they brought out dessert. I tried 2 different desserts. They had an Oreo cheesecake which was very good. I was impressed by it. But, the star of the desserts was the tres leches cake. It was magnificent, seriously. It was incredibly moist and was probably the best tres leches I have ever had. It was that good. Overall, it was an incredibly pleasant and delicious dining experience. The room was great, the food was phenomenal and the service was awesome throughout the entire meal. If you ever need to host any kind of dinner event in the area, I would strongly recommend this place as I thought they did a great job. I am looking forward to my return visit. read more
