The problem is that this was purchased for our last girls' night of the summer. My best friend, my cousin, and I split the half bushel between us, and we do not live in the same city, so bringing the entire order back was simply not realistic. I wasn't expecting special treatment--I just expected to receive what I paid for. Once we realized the size of the crabs, it was extremely disappointing, especially because this was supposed to be a fun evening together. The picture speaks for itself. We paid for large male crabs, and I don't feel like that is what we received. I'm leaving this review because customers should be able to trust that when they pay for a specific size, that is what they're going to receive. Please check your order carefully before leaving, especially when ordering by size. Unfortunately, after this experience, I would not order from here again.

It was a gorgeous night to sit outside, but we opted for our favorite - bar seats to watch the action. It's hard to find this level of consistency and creativity even in NYC, but to have it right here in Maplewood is so wonderful. So many restaurants in the suburbs rely on frozen, pre-made items from large restaurant supply chains that finding innovative cooking completely from scratch is a real challenge. In a sea of mediocre restaurants, Perla lives up to its name: a true gem! We have been so impressed by the daily specials this summer. We started out with a scallop crudo with yuzu, jalapeno, and shallots that is my favorite crudo right now. We followed that with the new shrimp tostada and I'm only sorry we didn't order two. Later in our meal, I spied a couple at the other end of the bar who did it right: the wife took one bite and immediately ordered a second one so that she wouldn't have to share. This is the second time we've had the tomato salad with olives, shiso, and white balsamic and I can't get over the flavor combination - it's so unexpected and addictive. We can't pass up the broiled oysters with garlic butter, Calabrian chili, and crispy shallots - a dish I was obsessed with the moment I tried it at a pop-up event before the restaurant even existed. Then we had the broiled branzino with lemon, capers, and a watercress salad - again, the only mistake was not ordering two! We were actually down the shore yesterday, but came home because we were craving this dish. We finished off our meal with anchovy toast, which our favorite dessert paired with a crisp Txakolina. It's four pieces of toasted baguette with a generous spread of really good butter topped with one piece of salt-cured anchovy and one boqueron (a pickled anchovy). I can't recommend this dish highly enough, it is perfectly balanced! We love a BYOB, but it is such a luxury that we can order right from our phones at the restaurant from a local wine shop (Lum's Cellars). It's a curated list that has some really fantastic options that all go so well with the cuisine. We started with an Alberiño and then ordered the Txakolina. No notes! We can't wait for our next meal at Perla.

We came to this restaurant to host clients for dinner before heading to a concert, and I'm writing this review the morning after because the experience truly stood out. From start to finish, this place exceeded our expectations. Despite being extremely busy, with multiple events happening in different areas of the restaurant, the staff never missed a beat and made us feel genuinely cared for. From the hostess and seamless coat check to our waiter, who was incredibly attentive with drink refills and consistently checked in to make sure everything was perfect, the service was exceptional. The food itself was just as impressive. As pictured, everything was absolutely delicious. Most of our group ordered steak, which was cooked beautifully, while others opted for the salmon, which looked just as incredible and received rave reviews from the table. The ambiance was also a highlight. We were seated in a cozy corner where the tables were closer together, but the music stayed at a comfortable level, allowing us to have great conversation without yelling or feeling crowded. Overall, we stumbled upon this spot after a few searches, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. My wife and I came here with another couple on a Saturday night. We have been here a few times since they've opened. It was our friends first time. They loved it. We had a few drinks in the lounge before we sat for dinner. We shared appetizers, my favorite is the lobster with mushrooms, we had the cockles and littlenecks on half shell. Everything was so fresh. For dinner wife and I had the parillada, a huge platter with all kinds of seafood, delicious. Friends had the jumbo prawns and a steak. They thought it was excellent and the servings are huge, enough for 2 meals. Desserts were perfect, had the cheese platter and flan. The place was packed, so they must be doing something right. They had a decent amount of servers and one or two parties at the bar when we sat down, but no one else came in to get seated which was interesting given how many tables they had and how nicely everything was set. The vibe of this restaurant felt a little more upscale than we expected so staff were in black tie dress, but since no one else was there, we didn't feel too out of place. Menu had a good selection of dishes and we shared a few for the entire meal. Taste was fine, solid and decently priced. I enjoyed the paella. Overall, not a bad experience, just felt a little eerie due to the lack of patrons. We enjoyed it nonetheless and wish Spanish Tavern more success!

The place was not busy, only 3 tables with people sitting. When I said something to the owner, he told me in Spanish ( guess he didn't know I speak it), he told me I was being PICKY. Really??? the new owner doesn't care, so I will be taking my business elsewhere. Oh and if you do go, check your bill... the pitcher of sangria is on the board for $18 and the charged me $24. ( and I was there at happy hour)

Well let me say I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was on point. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff was amazing. It has now been added to one of my favorites again.
