"Walked-in" on a Tuesday afternoon around 3:30pm, just one row of cars in each line across all the testing stations. Each line had two ppl working (probably varies depending on time of day/week). In total, waited ~5 min in line, waited in a booth next to my car while they tested the emissions, paid via CC, and was out in under 10 min. I visited the ADEQ Vehicle Emissions Station to complete an emissions test for my car's registration renewal. I arrived around 3 PM on a weekday and three lanes were open with short lines. They all moved very quickly. I thought I would be there for at least 30 minutes, but I was maybe there for fifteen minutes total! I couldn't believe it. This was the quickest emissions test I've ever had, and the staff was also really nice! They even had a single person enclosed waiting area with one chair. The test cost $17. I hadn't had to smog my vehicle in a long time. I was hoping it would be a quick easy process. It WAS! I probably waited in line for about 5 minutes and the smog check seemed even shorter than that. Been here a few times and noticed the employees being extremely rude and dismissive of certain customers, particularly female customers and not communicating properly when it comes to what is needed. I saw one employee berate a customer a few months ago and it impacted me so much that I needed to come back and leave this review as I have not been able to get it out of my mind. I watched this employee (an older man who has been there for a while now) yelling at the customer when it did not seem like he was signaling to them properly and got extremely upset at the smallest questions this customer had. The employee had very unclear instructions which clearly caused this customer to go into a panic not knowing what to do as they seemingly almost left without being detached properly. Again, because your employee did not give clear instructions and was being very volatile in their communication. All your employee did was lay into them even harder when this happened and continued yelling at them. I've notice this kind of treatment of customers almost every time I have gone to this station and it is frankly unacceptable and disgusting. I will no longer be using this emission testing station due to the unnecessary way customers are being treated by their employees as it leaves an incredibly bad taste in my mouth, especially when I notice it happening to mainly female clientele. There is a way to signal and positively reinforce what expectations you have for people without berating and yelling at them. Totally uncalled for and I have seen it happen way too many times now to ever feel comfortable with anyone from my family utilizing this particular facility ever again unless something changes. It's the closest one to us all, however we will gladly be driving out of our way to another facility from now on. I understand that people have off days, but that doesn't excuse you from acting unprofessional and down right rude to people who are coming to you for mandated services. Recently my car failed emissions testing for the first time. Luckily between Chandler Airport ADEQ Managers/Technical Advisors Dan, Cliff & Wayne (also Robert at the Phoenix Waiver Center) -- who carefully listened to my problem then offered wise tips on solving it -- I with help from my terrific repairmen at AAA finally succeeded in getting that all-important sticker! Thanks also to friendly, competent, patient inspectors Brittaney, Ron, Ricky, Robert & Linnea. Considering all the terrific reviews these people receive, mine probably won't make much difference. But I'm just so impressed & grateful that I've written one anyway. This (along with the ADOT I've had occasion to contact for driver licenses) is a prime example of how organizations in the public as well as private sector should treat customers. Great Customer Service, considering how slammed they were with the new vehicle requirements put in place for 2021. The line was wrapped around the parking lot two times and only two lines were open. The second lane, the middle lane was used intermittently. He had to be flagged over to get service in that line. I was one of the fortunate ones that was. An older gentleman assisted me he was very nice and friendly. He asked me to get out of my car and sit in the chair and for me that I would have to pay a small fee of $17. 00. It took all of about 10 minutes for the actual inspection. The wait in line was about a 28 minute wait. This location was very efficient considering the constant influx of vehicles. The fee was reasonable. I will definitely come back in 2 yrs for recertification. read more

One of the certainties in life, for those who own motor vehicles, is the "dreaded" emissions test. Fortunately, the ADEQ vehicle emissions stations make it easy to get in, out, pass, or fail. Pull up to the location and take a ticket. Hold on to it, because you'll hand it in when you meet with an attendant. If your car was made after 1981 it probably has OBD (onboard diagnostics), which means you can pretty much choose any open lane. Keep your eyes up for the signage. The station itself feels like you're driving up to a car mechanic. The guys there were friendly and professional. I think they realize that you don't really *want* to be there, and yet don't treat you like a commodity. You're in and out fast. There's even a small lobby area and public bathroom if you happen to need it. Unbeknownst to many, they actually have a secret coffee shop inside the emissions building, but you have to give them the weekly password found on the ADOT website. Just kidding. It is what it is, I've been to several different emissions testing locations across the valley growing up and they're about the same. Easy process, the afternoon I came it was a longer-than-usual line, but it still only took 15-20 minutes total. You just drive up to a lane and they ask you the number on the odometer. Then you turn the car off, then on and hop out and wait for 5 minutes tops. Then you pay, get back in and they let you know if you pass or fail. Super easy and nice drive-thru experience. I typically have a relatively normal experience here but today was much different. Idk what the drama was but inspector 5134 grown man with glasses was so aggressive for literally no reason. Customer service is clearly not his forte. Line moved quickly but I would've waited hours if it meant I would be treated like a human being. I left so overwhelmed and overstimulated I accidentally started to turn out the wrong way and then got barked at for like the millionth time by the impatient man doing my test. I was literally just trying to get away from him he was so scary for what??? I will be sending my husband to do this from now on as I'm 23 weeks pregnant and did not need that stress. Gotta say....I never expected such great service at an emissions place. I got there at 8:05 a.m. And the ticket printer wasn't working. A gentleman came around the corner immediately and opened the box and gave me my ticket. I get in line behind 4 other cars and the same gentleman who helped me with my ticket comes and takes me out of line and puts me in an empty bay. While I'm waiting for my emissions and sitting in the chair, I had my hand over my eye because the Sun was shining directly in my face. Another guy comes out of the office and closes the bay door halfway so the sun wasn't in my face anymore. It's vehicle emissions. They all seem to use basically the same system, so it takes about the same amount of time no matter where you go. The only real variable is how busy they are. If it's 5-10 minutes per car, as I would estimate, you can get an idea how long you'll be waiting by how far back in line you are. I've had to wait here for half an hour or more, and sometimes as little as 5 minutes. This visit was 5 minutes. The crew was pleasant, efficient, and got me out reasonably quickly. Apparently they now take credit (this is new to me), but probably a good idea to have cash in case there is a problem with the credit card. read more

The guy performing our emissions test was grumpy. He mumbled when he talked. He was so mad when he said I was done and I got back in the car and handed him my payment card through the window. He may have broken his finger hitting his keyboard so hard to accept my payment. Unbelievable attitude problem. Not only did he hurt himself but he walks with his hand on his back as if it hurts.
