I can't vouch for the automotive side... but the Uhaul rental leg of the business left a lot to be desired. After being directed to this location by UHaul.com to rent a truck for a one way trip, we were told they would only rent us a 15ft truck for a one way trip (despite uhaul.com literally directing us HERE). This was after the UHaul rep disappeared for 20 minutes & upon his return, elected to help the man in line behind us before acknowledging our existence. The shop manager came out & apologized for the delay, but told us he didn't know anything about Uhaul all as the line continued to build. One customer left out of frustration. Perhaps the shop manager should take an afternoon to learn about a service his shop offers. Went around the corner to another Ubaul location & they had us taken care of in under 10 minutes. If you need to rent a truck, go elsewhere. read more

They were able to find just exactly what was wrong with my car when 2 repair places were not! My A/C is now blowing SO cold all through my van and I couldn't be happier with my drivable vehicle!!! Very unprofessional. First, we were told when we brought our vehicle in that it would be done in a few hours. After waiting several hours and calling to check in, they told us they may not even get to it that day. It was only after we told them I had to take the day off to even bring it in that day did they somehow manage to finish before they closed. 5 hours to do an alignment. Then when we asked if this alignment would fix the dashboard icon error, as we had been told before that it would, they told us they could charge us an additional $130 for a diagnostic to find out. (Auto Zone will do this check for you for free) We had decided not to return to this mechanic for those reasons, but now, several weeks later we received a call from manager Wayne telling us the credit card payment we made "didn't go through" due to a machine error on their part. When my husband spoke to him over the phone and voiced his concern over this being a scam or fraud, as we have a receipt showing we paid our bill, Wayne immediately threatened to take him to court. Trying to intimidate someone who has valid concerns about identity or credit card theft is insane. My recommendation is to avoid this mechanic. If you must go there, use cash as they most certainly cannot be trusted with a credit card or debit card. The unfriendliness, aggression, unprofessional demeanor and incompetence of the employees should be enough to keep you from going there anyway. read more

When to SSC Auto Repair after my car failed it's emissions test. They gave me an estimate of $5,200. My car was running just fine with no issues so I took it somewhere else. They found and fix the problem in just 10 minutes. I past my emissions test with no issues. P.S. SSC charged me $75 for trying to rip me off. read more

I paid over $1500 to have my ac replaced about five months ago. A one year warranty came with the ac system. Ac was blowing slightly warm. I had my son bring the car in and they charged me $150 to look at and recharge the system. I asked the service advisor why it wasn't covered under warranty and he said the owner told him to charge. He said he would speak to the owner and call me back. Needless to say I never heard back. I will never go back or recommend this company to anyone. Far better off paying a bit more at the dealer or someone who honors their warranty. Never again with this place. read more

Can't say enough good things about this shop. I have been a customer for almost twenty years and they have been a constant reliable service in my life. Just got my truck back and it's running great. It's good to have a dependable go-to mechanic and with SSC I have that. I was especially appreciative during my time in the Army years ago, knowing my wife could take our vehicle to honest professionals. I typically do most of the work on my own car to save money. But I had an issue when trying to fix my AC myself so I brought my car to the shop to get a diagnosis. Greg and staff told me the issue and gave me advice. They didn't try to push repairs that aren't necessary. Greg was kind enough to give me a lot of information on how to fix my issue without having them do it for me. It's hard to find a shop that is willing to help a DIYer save money when they aren't getting anything in return. read more

My car was throwing a simple code, so I took it in. My dad has been going to SSC since the early '90s, so I was expecting not to be jerked around. That was wishful thinking. The manager tried to tell me I needed a whole new transmission because the part that was in the code wasn't repairable or even available. Odd, since I had the part waiting for me at the auto supply store. After telling me he took out some transmission fluid, he couldn't even tell me if there was metal in it. (Spoiler, there wasn't.). Thank goodness I was only out the "diagnostic" fee. I found another shop to do another diagnostic and confirm it was, in fact, what the code was, and they fixed it. Don't waste your time at SSC. read more

We took our truck in for a minor key issue and a bigger issue that I wanted to get an estimate on. They charged me 120 to find out what the major issue was and they thought they fixed my minor issue. Got my vehicle home and they key fob wouldn't work and then the truck went dead. They charged 75$ to tow it back to them and then another 120$ to diagnose what was wrong. It needed a battery. All in all I think the prices were terrible and David wasn't good at calling me. I had to call him every time to find out timeline. I used to exclusively go to them but not anymore. They had a service call me to find out if I was happy, I told them I was not and didn't hear anything else from Ssc. I would like to be treated fairly with the 120$ and have my stuff work better then when I left it. Not worse. Used to be a good place but not anymore. Also... after all of that, the radio doesn't work. So the truck is worse for going into that repair shop read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I've been coming to this shop since 2017 and I will no longer be coming here due to Greg's negligence. I got my car towed here because of a bad bearing in my alternator and some other loud noises coming from my engine. When I spoke with Greg, the service manager, he quoted me $568 to replace my alternator. When I told him it was under warranty and I'd like to bring in my own part he got frustrated, very short with me, and wouldn't really answer any of my questions. He told me the new price would be $206 and he'd have the car back to me within 2 days. After 2 days of not hearing anything I called to be told it will be ready the next day, it wasn't ready for 3 more days after. A couple weeks later when checking my fluids I come to find out they put my serpentine belt on incorrectly and it tore into my engine and fan. When I called Greg to explain to him what happened and see if I could bring it in, he immediately blamed me and said there is nothing they did wrong. After going back and forth he agreed that it couldn't have been my fault and said to have the car towed back in. After a couple days Greg called to tell me that he couldn't place blame on his mechanics or myself, again, since the belt was basically gone. He told me I would have to pay for a new belt and he'd give me half off of my labor because he felt bad thus bringing my repair to $167. When I arrived a couple days later to pay for my bill not only did he not give me half off of labor as promised, he charged me $66 for a belt that's normally only about $30. He also charged me $35 for "miscellaneous" fees and parts? When I called to discuss this with him he said that they mark up parts so they aren't going to be the same price as it would be at autozone. When I questioned him about why I wasn't given half off labor he raised his voice telling me it was my fault again and to go get the belt out of the shop and look for myself. I already had pictures of the destroyed belt at this point and didn't appreciate his passive aggression. I also referred a friend here in June for an alternator replacement and they lost his car key and fob. When my friend was told about this by Greg he asked if he had a spare and didn't even apologize or offer to replace his fob and key. When I brought this situation up with Greg during our conversation he said he doesn't remember this at all. I told him it was written in the notes on his account because he had called to complain to Greg about not being offered a replacement for something they lost. I ended up hanging up on him out of frustration. Does no one take accountability for anything at this shop?This is ridiculous and not how you should treat customers. I've never felt so disrespected and talked down upon like I have by Greg. Even reading other reviews they are arguing with customers and trying to shift blame when things go wrong like kids. So don't come here unless you want to be argued with, squeezed for every nickel and dime, just to have your car returned more broken than it was when you brought it in. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! Horrible, careless work, and now I'm out an extra $60 buying parts they took or lost. They didn't put back my 2 bolts when they checked my air filter so now that's just flopping around loose in my hood. And to replace those is $10 plus shipping. And when rotating my tires, a simple job, when replacing my hub caps they put them on incorrectly so I lost 2 of them on the drive home. Luckily I found one of them but still missing one. How hard is it to line a peg with a hole to put the hub cap back on? There's another $40 to replace those as well. Extremely disappointed. read more

I had my car inspected by another local mechanic shop who told me this weird engine sound I was having was from loose engine mounts. Then I was told that my water pump was bad and front struts. I was suspicious and thought I'd be better off getting a second opinion. Well another close shop I found was SSC. I spoke to George who was nice. I told him my issue and he did not even probe me to ask which shop told me that he just simply said to let me bring it in to at least make sure those things needed to be fixed. Well after only a couple hours I was called and told that mounts and water pump were fine and that actually my problem was bad front wheel bearings. I was nervous but gave the ok to fix it and shortly later in the day I was called to pick up the vehicle. I was scared the sound would still be there. I paid and then drove off trying to listen for it. IT WAS GONE!! I was so happy! They were great, they did not gloat or trash the other shop. Like I said they didn't even ask who told me that. Anyways, this was my first experience with this shop and I'll be going back to them in the future that's for sure! read more

We've taken 2 cars with various problems to SSC and so far they've done a great job each time. Very courteous staff and they follow through on their word. They're honestly a little pricier for repair work compared to some places I've been to, but for major repairs, I'd trust them over anyone else, including a dealer. I had our car looked at another shop to have to have the AC recharged. They said we needed us to spend $1,600 on my sons car to get it fixed. So I knew we should have just gone to seen Justin from the beginning but settled for someone close to work on my sons car. Then when we got the call that the cost was so high which just seemed really weird. I then immediately called Justin and of course he fixed the problem which was not to the extent of the what the other shop suggested. There has never been a time where they have not taken care of our families vehicles and made us feel secure that we were not taken advantage of as other shops tend to do. They saw me right away and checked on a tire that looked like it was getting low. They couldn't find any leaks but made sure to check the pressure on all the tires. My husband and I recently moved from CA to Gilbert and needed to get some simple tune ups on both of our cars. Our first priority was to get an oil change and to ensure that we pass our emissions tests to get our cars registered here. We were recommended SSC Auto Repair and we are so thankful for the recommendation! My husband's car was in and out in no time. My car needed a little more work than his so it stayed overnight. No problem, all the guys in the shop communicated with me constantly so I knew what to expect. The owner, George, is so friendly and welcoming ! Rudy, one of the technicians, kept me in the loop on the status of my car. When I picked up my car, I drove it right to the emissions testing facility and oddly enough, right when I arrived, a check engine light came on. Unfortunately, I didn't pass my emissions test. So I called SSC and they told me to bring my car back and they'll find out what's going on. Justin, the general manager of the Gilbert SSC location, took my car and ran the diagnostics himself. I was so impressed that this shop wanted to make sure my car was running well and that I pass my emissions test. They really wanted to make this right. And of course, made sure that I didn't pay a single dollar when I came back to have it checked. Justin double checked all the work, reset the check engine light, and took the car for a spin, and gave it a good bill of health! So, I took the car back and sure enough, passed my emissions test. All in all, I am more than pleased with the service my husband and I received from SSC Auto Repair. This is a auto shop that is totally run family style -- and they make you feel like family in the process. Not only do I trust their workmanship, and technicians, their prices are very affordable. My AC went out on my old truck. I took it to another place and after they looked at it they said it was a bad compressor and quoted over 700 for the repair. I went to SSC and they found it was just a faulty connector. Saved me hundreds of dollars. They were a little busy but let me know that up front so I knew exactly what to expect. I took my truck here because my differential was making a ringing noise. I knew it needed the bearings replaced, but I had ssc take a look just to confirm. After they took the differential cover off they told me it would cost $1600 to replace the bearings a and gears. Way to high of a price for that job. I told them to put the cover back on and I'd pick up my truck because I could get that type of job completed for under $1000 somewhere else. When I picked up my truck I had to pay them $120 just for looking at it. The buzzing sound coming from my differential was even louder after they took a look. I ended up taking it to a place in Tempe who specialized in differentials. They quoted me $650 for a complete repair job. New differential gears and bearings with labor included. After they completed the job I asked them why it had been buzzing louder after ssc took a look and they said ssc had tightened the differential cover too tightly and it was grinding on the differential gear. I'll never take any vehicle to ssc auto. Those guys charge way too much for repair jobs. I would get at least 3 different repair quotes from other repair shops before taking any vehicle to ssc. read more
