I remember back in the day when vehicle emissions testing was free ah, the good old days! Times have changed, and now there's a fee, which is fine... but what was a bit confusing was that the website showed they were open on President's Day. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who saw that, because several of us showed up to find the doors very much closed. Since these aren't government-run sites, I was surprised they weren't open, especially when so many other businesses were operating that day. That said, I returned later and had the pleasure of being helped by Frank. He was a senior gentleman like myself, and let's just say he operated at a smooth and steady 0.1 miles per hour. But you know what? I appreciated it. He was clearly doing his very best, taking his time, and making sure everything was done properly. At one point, he was mopping the cement floor with a mop, which I don't judge at all however, I did find it a bit unexpected during the process! Because of the slower pace (and the brief housekeeping intermission), my lane took a little longer than the others. Thankfully, I wasn't in a rush and was able to wait patiently. In the end, kindness goes a long way. Frank may move at his own speed, but he was respectful and doing honest work. Thank you, sir, for your effort and dedication. Make sure you have a good open time window before coming here. I waited 40 minutes in the "express" line. You sit in a little booth while they do the test on your car. It costs $16.50 for the emissions test. The staff were friendly and seemed organized. read more

This location is a favorite because if you go before noon there is usually no line. Sine we have two vehicles I have visited this location in 2025 and 2026 and both times the service was great and I was able to get in and out within 15 minutes. I don't have any pictures because that's the last thing I am thinking about when trying to make sure my older vehicles pass the emission tests. read more

First, besides the suggestion to arrive early i would also suggest you go before the end of the month. And don't take the tips literally because the "left lane" is not the quickest lane. Two lanes open. Two cars before my vehicle gets tested the center lane gets opened and a vehicle that came well after my arrival is directed into the new opening. On 12/18/25 around 4:30pm the lady that did my testing. Took her job to serious. I asked if my car could be driven on the rollers. She said no because for the previous years my car had been idle tested and that it would take 25 mins and my car would get damaged. And it didn't matter what type of emissions testing i got i would only get 1 year of emissions because of the age of my vehicle a 1990. Which she was wrong about. Also failed m3 for having my push to start button/ ignition switch zip tied. She listed is "starter" should learn what things are called if you're going to call out on it. Went to 2 other emission testing locations and they had absolutely no problem driving my car on the rollers now i have 2 years of registration. Glad i didnt go back to the same place. read more

Service was quick but when it was time to pay I stated I was paying cash and asked if I could pay with a hundred dollar bill. Steve, the person taking care of the inspection was super kind and helpful. He went to ask his manager if they'd be able to take a hundred dollar bill and she said yes. I believe her name was Vanessa, she was rude and upset that I was paying cash. She said that i was causing an inconvenience for doing so. She was unprofessional. Not only was she unpleasant to me but she also spoke to Steve in a very demeaning way. I'm giving 2 stars solely because of Steve's kindness and help. If my review was for Vanessa it'd be a 0 star. I went for emissions today and was sitting in line, a technician walked over and motioned me to move over to next lane, so I did. There was a cone there that neither I or the technician saw, so when I ran over it, it got stuck. Two techs came over and began yanking at the cone that was stuck between my tire and the wheel well. They got it out, but not after doing damage to my car. I filed a complaint and am waiting to hear back from the station manager. It is NYE so I doubt I will hear back for a few days. read more

I've owned my truck for 7 years and have always brought it to this location for emission testing and never had an issue. For some reason instead of using a jackstand to hold the exhaust hose they failed me stating my stock exhaust is too short for the probe to reach. Job incompetence and laziness cost me time out of my busy work schedule. I took my truck to the 16th street location and they knew exactly how to use the equipment and get the job done and get me on my way. You need to train or replace your lazy employees. read more

"Will I pass?" ... the thoughts quickly race through my head as I pull into the Chandler ADEQ vehicular emissions test center. I've been here for over 5 years and the quality of service and speed has improved greatly. Long gone are the days of waiting an hour or two of enduring tedious procedures. The ADEQ really does a great job of simplifying the vehicular inspection while maintaining efficiency. There are 2 test lines, with one express line for cars newer than 1996, however keep in mind sometimes this lane is closed. After waiting 5-10 minutes, With a quick sigh of relief, I drive away soon after, in a painless and convenient experience! The inspection attendance and technicians here are very friendly, courteous and aware of time restraints. They seem to keep everything running like an assembly-line. At other locations, when you drop your car off and leave it with the tenant away from your site, it can be somewhat stressful. The waiting stations near the front row have a Phonebooth-style entry point that allows for waiting. Seated inside is a plastic chair and papers on the wall. I found it to be comfortable and reassuring. The only reason why there are 4 stars out of 5 is due to the front vehicular waiting section. There are only metal chairs available, instead of the Phonebpoth style arrangements provided for the rear section. This is only a minor detail however! Pro Tip: check the online website for wait times! This can be a KEY factor during peak busy times. The website suggests Monday thru Friday at 5pm-7pm. read more

Use the online wait times to gauge your arrival to this or any of the locations. In the past, I always follow my advice and find myself here in the late afternoon but had a conflict so I took a chance and came when they first open in the morning... BIG MISTAKE!!! Once you enter the gate, you have a slim to none chance of exiting with ease... So if you are on a time crunch, use the online wait times. There is an exit prior to getting your vehicle inspected but its in the far left lane and if you make it over to that point (without ticking people off) then you might as well just stay put. I arrive just after 8am (when they opened) and 2 lanes were open attending to about 10+ cars. When I've come before, the wait has been no more than 10 mins, so I'm spoiled. It took just over an hour before I managed to be one of the next vehicles. My car only took just over 5 mins to inspect and came back clean so I was able to register online once I got back on my computer. Depending on your vehicle, you are looking at getting the inspection done once every 2 years but if you're like me and have multiple cars with various due dates, then you see this place a bit more often. The overall experience isn't so bad... or at least I've seen it a lot worse in other states. The MVD is located right next door so look at this location as your one stop shop for your vehicle and be sure to look online before coming as the system is really accurate. read more

I watched 10 cars go through lane 2, compared to 2 cars getting through in lane 3 (where I got stuck) over the course of an hour so needless to say, I was pretty irritated considering it took me an hour and a half get through because this lane operator couldn't seem to figure it out. read more

Having lived in San Diego for over 20 years I cannot and should not complain about the AZ emissions standards. AT $17 for a test and a wait time of 27 minutes from entering the line to exiting I should be happy that its a two year process. The service I received was not bad it was just slow...I think the guy doing my testing was in training. Either way it was relatively painless and cheap, efficient and friendly staff. read more

Despite that fact that ADOT requires emissions inspections no more often than once every year or two, it's still a total drag having to set time aside to accomplish what seems like a complete nuisance. I suspect the employees at this facility are well aware of that because they go out of their way to be polite, courteous, and efficient. A bay was immediately available when arrived around 11am on a weekday morning. The inspection was promptly completed, payment processed, and I was on my way again in about 15 minutes. Plan on getting in line at 730 am. I pulled in at 752 am this morning. Long line of cars already. Its 815 am and they only have 2 out of 4 bays open. They are processing 2 cars every 15 minutes. There are 6 cars in front of me. Plan on idling in line 1.5 hours even if you arrive before 8 am. Totally mismanaged govt facility. Who is the manager here? They are incompentent. read more

5 stars for the speed and efficiency. 2 stars for the tech named Marlon. He was not the best at customer service. Made the process which was effective, miserable. This was my first time getting a smog test done in Arizona as I am moving from out of state. I'm not use to such a huge facility doing my smog. I was skeptical at first but this facility was extremely fast. I think I sat in my car for about 10 minutes, as there was 4 other cars in front of me. I was in and out within 5 minutes. Just a terrible experience. Prior to arriving shows a 25 minute wait which was true for every lane except the far left lane I was in. Do NOT GET IN THE FAR LEFT LANE. They were continually pulling cars from the other two lanes to the right to open bays on the right side. They were flying through while my 25 minute wait turned into an hour and 15 minutes. There's a clear and better way to do this. Have two center lanes and pull cars to both the left and right bays but this concept seems far too complicated for these failed wannabe grease monkeys. read more

2 stars is because there are times when this place is great, however today isn't that day. 2 lanes were open, then left lane put up cones to close his lane. So I am in line with about 12 other cars in one lane. Left lane closed lane guy comes out, looks at the line, shakes his head, walks around stalling just hanging out not doing anything to help the poor guy doing it all on his own. 45 min in line with no way to get out, except waiting.
