Legally an auction business is a second-hand dealer selling items based upon the highest bidder. It may be a fun event, and even a place to meet individuals of similar interest. Best to actually know what you are bidding on, and during the auction listen closely to the representations made by the auctioneer.

Of course, if you intend to participate, you have to do your homework. You have to look the pieces over in advance. Sometimes it requires a bit of research. Kelly always announces that he is not responsible for the final price in any way. Your bid is up to you. His offerings range from misused, little wanted antiques, to very rare, desirable pieces. Big problem- they do not itemize any of the stuff that you give them. They throw everything on the floor when they're going through your belongings. Why would you do that? After I brought my clean clothes in to be sold! The worst part is when you come in to collect your money you get a rude surprise that you only got $5 or $10! But you could've swore you gave them at least 15 items. Rather shady. And then they tell you to go hunting for your belongings that didn't sell throughout their store if you want it back. Ridiculous. It's better to be a buyer in this store. Not a consigner.

It's too good to be true they say. they will power wash, mow grass, clean windows and carpets. bring dumpsters, all the advertising, signs, social media, etc. etc. etc. Buyer pays commission to them. you just get your check ! They will meet you at your house and take care of everything. We've used them 2 times now, and I can't say enough. make your life easy, and don't pay those commisions to real estate people.

The content of the audience and vary from simple household stuff to old glass, The great things about an auction is that there are three metrics, auctioneer, staff, and buyer. I like the people that come to this auction because it represents a great cross section of WNY. We are all there trying to find a treasure or need. My attitude is that there is much to be found with knowledge. That applies to any auction. Come to one of Matt's Academy Auction's auction. There's plenty of free parking, and the pizza is excellent.

I didn't find much of anything other than a couple little things like a record of Elvis (a gift for my mom-paid $10 for the record) and some kids stuff. I did enjoy the little wine tasting/slushee they had at a booth. They also had a cute train set up for the kids to watch. I usually go here a few times during the spring/summer but hadn't gone yet this season so I was excited to see the changes. Unfortunately, it's still kind of a dump. More vendors have rented the inside booths, but most are nowhere near being "antique" dealers as there recent posts made it sound. I saw booths selling Tupperware, leather/biker gear, incense, purses, and a tea/coffee shop. There was one farmer's style stand selling fresh vegetables and plants, I'd love to see more vendors like that. As for the outside stalls, more than half were vacant, and of the vendors that were there it was a mix of overpriced, dirty junk and a few good antiques but mostly still overpriced. I did buy one item, but the vendor didn't accept credit cards or venmo/PayPal (come on, it's 2022, everybody has venmo or square). These are sellers that are there every weekend, it's time to upgrade your technology. I paid the atm fee to take out some cash, but other buyers would have walked away. Several of the outdoor stalls reeked of cigarette smoke, I walked out of two of them for that reason. (Unsurprisingly, one booth owner was wearing a Marlboro jacket.) This place could do a whole lot better if every inside booth was filled (with actual antiques), more farmer's market type of vendors, and was generally less depressing/seedy.
