Great coffee custom made smoothies and protein drinks but it is pricey. Convenient location in the center of town

If you're the kind of person who genuinely loves coffee -- not just "needs caffeine," but…read moreappreciates what it can be when someone actually gives a damn -- Upstate Coffee is the place. This isn't one of those generic "we have espresso and oat milk" spots where everything tastes like it came off a corporate checklist. This is coffee that feels intentional. Like someone is behind it, obsessing over every detail so your cup comes out right. What makes Upstate Coffee special isn't just that it tastes incredible (it does), it's the fact that the owner cares in a way that's rare now. You can tell immediately this isn't a business built around shortcuts or trends -- it's built around pride, discipline, and hospitality. The type of person who isn't satisfied unless the product is perfect, and who treats customers like people, not transactions. And I don't mean "customer service smile." I mean the kind of care where it's obvious the goal isn't to sell you coffee... it's to serve you something the owner would confidently hand to his closest friends and family and say: "This is the best version of this product I can make." That's the standard. The coffee itself is next-level. The flavors are clean, balanced, and consistent -- not burnt, not bitter, not overly acidic for no reason. It's roasted locally with precision, and you can feel that difference immediately. There's a clarity to the flavor profile that's hard to find unless you're dealing with someone who understands roasting like a craft, not a production line. One of the things I respect most is that this is being done in an organic-certified lab environment, and they take it seriously. That might sound like a "small detail" to some people, but it shows the bigger truth: Upstate Coffee treats the entire process with care -- sanitation, accuracy, consistency, quality control -- like it matters. Because it does. You're not getting a random batch that tastes "close enough." You're getting something deliberately produced with real standards behind it. It's also just a great vibe overall. You can feel that the place is rooted in the community. It doesn't feel like an imported concept -- it feels Upstate, in the best way. Honest, hardworking, quality-first. The owner isn't trying to be flashy. He's trying to be excellent. And those are the businesses worth supporting. Bottom line: Upstate Coffee is the kind of place that raises your standards for what coffee can be. It's crafted with precision, roasted locally, made in a legit organic-certified setting, and backed by an owner who clearly has rare integrity and heart. If you live anywhere nearby and you aren't going here yet, you're missing out. And if you're passing through -- put this on your list. Five stars, without hesitation.

The best! Picked up a bag at the Wheelerville event and it was super. Gotta order more.read more

It is only open Friday and Saturday evenings, so plan accordingly. The inn is beautiful and the current owners have put a wonderful patio out in the lawn which overlooks the lake and the bridge. Some tables are interspersed with the more casual option of Adirondack chairs (how apropos!) and side tables. It is a very charming setting! The small plates are a somewhat odd assortment (Asian noodles and Mediterranean flatbread pizza?) and everything we ate was good but not necessarily great. But let me lay it out there for you: the dining options in this region are extremely limited! This is the only place for miles and miles attempting to do something sophisticated and they are probably smart to keep it simple and accessible.

Night 1 - sat outside with great view of Lake Sacandaga in every direction, ordered: steamed clams, fish tacos, fish cakes, a delicious eggplant dish, a hanger steak, side salads, and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious. Night 2 - sat in beautiful dining room, ordered: cheese board with Charcuterie, a gourmet salad, quesedilla and seafood stew. Again, everything was amazing. The owners are also wonderful. Seems like a great place to hold an event as well. Great craft beer selection, wine, and gourmet coffee. Can't wait to go back for more!

Formerly Honey Girls, Keep Right Cafe is named after the famous Canajoharie "dummy" traffic light with "Keep Right" painted on the base, which was located around the corner at the Church & Mohawk intersection several years ago. There are plans to have the "dummy" traffic light restored and returned to its original location soon. The cafe has a very welcoming and homey atmosphere with decorative floral pattern covered chairs at the tables, counter seating and 2 soft black chairs with coffee table near the flatscreen TV. For food, they offer all-day breakfast bowls & paninis, frittot, overnight oats, Greek yogurt parfaits & bowls, paninis, grain bowls, salads, broths, energy balls, and waffle balls. For drinks, they have organic coffee & tea, smoothies, and Italian sodas. The prices seem pretty reasonable. They also sell gifts including Keep Right Cafe apparel. I stopped by Keep Right Cafe for takeout recently. I was greeted as I walked in. I ordered a Chicken Caprese Panini ($8.50 plus tax) and Waffle Balls ($6.50 plus tax), which was ready to go in 10 minutes. The hot pressed panini had tender pieces of chicken breast, roasted red pepper, pesto, melted mozzarella, balsamic glaze, olive oil between warm chewy bread. The waffle balls (7 balls on a wood skewer) were served very hot covered with cinnamon sugar & powdered sugar and maple syrup for dipping. Both the chicken caprese panini and waffle balls were outstanding! I would definitely stop back in here if I'm in the area. Hopefully, the "dummy" traffic light in Canjo will be reality again soon.
