Fun quirky stuff! Coats, separates, hates, scarves, etc... I liked the eclectic atmosphere. There was a little bit of something for everyone! I felt hesitant after seeing the negative reviews but the salespeople were actually really kind and helpful without being intrusive. Clothes are on the expensive side but a normal price for what they are. Purses were actually really reasonable- under $100 for beautiful leather bags from small companies. read more

i used to make a concerted effort to go to downtown Asheville when in the mountains to shop here. Last time I was tagged when I walked in as a risk and a woman was on my tail. It was upsetting and offensive. I never have shoplifted in my life. The woman literally was reaching in the dressing room to remove clothes I had tried. My husband and I noticed this store last night but it was closed. Some things on their window display caught my attention so we decided to stop by this morning. Once inside the store my husband and I went in different directions. They have some nice clothing that looks very comfortable however I and my husband noticed a sales lady discreetly following me around because J guess she thought I might shoplift. So annoying!!! An employee was very rude to me and the person I was shopping with today. After asking the employee if there was a sale section, she replied that there was two sale racks, and if we expected any more of a discount then we could just walk right out of the store with the clothing and she would call the police to arrest us. It was incredibly rude, uncalled for, and honestly quite a bizarre comment. I will never give them my business again. read more

The last time I went I happen to read the reviews on Yelp and seeing what was said about the staff. When a friend and I walked in sure enough 3 sales ladies said nothing! Looking around awhile I mentioned to them that the Yelp reviews were correct! Then proceeded to tell them what was said. After that the one and only one out of three sales ladies was very apologetic and helpful. I love there store and will go back but I will again see how the staff is and mention it to them again if they are rude. read more

Poor choice of sizes. Everything was x-small or x-large. No help from staff - not even a hello when we went in. Three of us were shopping and not a single one of us received any attention. And whatever you do, don't ask if there is a sale, that makes you trailer trash to these women. There were some cute things but it's just not worth it. read more

This is my favorite store. The window always shows something enticing. The store is clean, well lit and laid out. The clothing is comfortable and stylish. I rarely leave without something. I visit the sale racks in the back first, as prices are a little high, but am usually tempted by a new style that makes my retail therapy experience a happy one. They have a nice variety of what I would classify as "earthy" clothing - lots of natural fibers (not all), loose-fitting, what seem to be comfortable clothing. Vegan- and non- vegan leather handbags, scarves, jewelry and belts too. Not entirely my style, but I do have a couple of nice pieces. When I think of prices, $88 (and up) for a tunic comes to mind. The poor reviews about staff surprised me because though I really only go in there if I happen to be walking by, I've never noticed not being greeted. But then again, I don't really care about that - in fact, I can't stand overly-intrusive sales people and I probably give off a vibe to leave me alone. Now that I think about it, seems that there were a few too many people working there in my opinion. My review is in reference to the store manager, who, for me, is a big deterrant from even going in there. Like white on rice. She has a comment for everything I've ever admired or touched, and it gets annoying. I once inquired about a dress that wasn't available in my size, and she jumped on the opportunity to mention she could get one and asked for my phone number. I felt put on the spot and reluctantly gave it to her (which was my fault since I could have simply said 'no thank you'). Within a week, she called me 5 TIMES and got increasingly irritated with each message for not returning her calls. I was out of town for pete's sake, and frankly, buying a dress was a low priority at the time. One message would have been plenty and I would have called her when I got back to town. Well, I DID call her back, but not with the intention of buying the dress - rather, to let her know she was pushy and really crossed the line with all the calls. I guess some people might appreciate that level of attention, by I didn't at all! Totally soured me from going in there again. read more

I had shopped in this store for so many years. Loving the clothing. The customer service started declining so I regretfully quit shopping there quite some time ago since there were so many other wonderful stores in Asheville with simply awesome people. I'm in Asheville often and saw a great skirt In the window this past wkend. I reluctantly walked in ready to buy it. 3 sales people standing around talking to each other. Nobody spoke to me or offered help. I didn't want those negative vibes in my closet. I walked out and DEFINITELY will never return. read more

My friend and I both bought several things at Ad Lib when we visited Asheville. It had a great selection of stylish, fun, comfortable, but not over-the-top clothes and accessories. What prompts this stellar review, though, was what happened when I called a few weeks later after something I purchased proved defective. I wasn't optimistic. But I was promptly called back by the store manager, who instructed me to mail to it back for a full refund - which was hugely appreciated since I live in another state. So, I'm a fan! While being greeted when you enter a store is a nice gesture - that's why Walmart does it - it's a lot more important to me that a store stands behind the merchandise it sells. read more

The store window caught my eye and my friend and I found several pieces of clothing and accessories we loved. There were a range of prices and I picked out several items to try on, as did my friend. The only clerk in the store told us we had 3 minutes to try on, but would give us 5. That was our first greeting, not a "hello" or that they were closing soon, but she would be happy to help us. We quickly tried on our items-under 5 minutes, we liked 3 of them and I had spotted a purse I also wanted. As we exited the fitting room, the clerk said "let's wrap it up, she was ready to close". I live in DC and have shopped in many cities noted for their rudeness, and this visit to Ad Lib was absolutely the worst I have ever experienced. Perhaps they run this shop for fun and aren't interested in my $600+ purchase. Thankfully, there are lots of other shops in the area and my 9 friends and myself who were visiting that weekend were able to spend plenty of $ in those. read more

Interesting selection but the sales staff are not at all helpful - in fact they're downright surly - and they refused to post a refund to my credit card for one of my four purchases when I returned it the very next morning, offering only store credit. In a town that's warm and friendly, these folks stood out as just the opposite. read more

Clothes are lovely, staff is not. Never greeted upon entering, despite the fact that there were only two customers in the store when I arrived. Tried not to take it personally until a group of tourists arrived, each greeted as if they were family and asked how they could be helped. Continued to stay for over 15 minutes in hopes of finding something for an upcoming event and not once did anyone ask if they could help me find what I was looking for and when I asked to try something on, the woman seemed truly annoyed to have to set me up in a dressing room. In the middle of changing, wearing only my panties and bra, she flung open the curtain to show me something else I could add to what I was trying on. Never so embarrassed and most definitely will never set foot into this store again. Thankfully, I went to another store moments later where the sales staff were incredibly sweet and professional with each customer who entered. They could give lessons to the truly offensive staff at AdLib. read more

I really like the style & quality of clothes in Ad Lib but I have yet to make a purchase. After at least five visits to this store over a period of two years, not once has a staff person approached me or even spoken as I entered the store. I have spent 10-20 minutes browsing the clothing on each visit without any acknowledgment at all. I am very surprised by comments from others about their positive experience with staff. The clothes draw me into the store. The aloofness of staff discourage me from purchasing. I would purchase online if available. This is a small store so I don't understand what is going on with staff. I keep hoping that staff will receive training or incentive to greet customers and provide friendly service. read more

I love love love Ad Lib. I love their clothes and I love the staff. They help me be more adventurous. They are patient and attentive. They help me see the possibilities that I often can't see. I live out of town but visit Asheville two or three times a year. I always set aside a few hours for Ad Lib. I cherish each Ad Lib piece I buy and wear them forever. read more
