I'd leave no stars if I could. Things have changed at my old shoe store. I've gone to Admiral Shoe Repair for years and it's always been good. But either the owner is getting too old to remember things or he is tired and grumpy and just needs to retire. I took a small leather purse in for repair. The thin strap had torn away on one side where it was sewn to the purse because it was not securely sewn in the first place. I showed him the issue and asked him if he could do a better job. He quickly said he'd sew it again. He quoted me a price that was under $20. I asked if he could do more than that because if it was sewn the same way it would just tear again. I asked if he could cut a small piece of leather and sew that to the purse with the strap under it for more security. He said yes and raised the price to $25. I was happy to pay that because I couldn't use it at all the way it was. When I came back, the purse was sewn exactly the same way it was before. I was leaving on a flight the next morning and didn't have time to discuss anything. When I got back a week or so later, he either had no memory of what we talked about or didn't want to admit he made a mistake. I tried reminding him of our discussion but he stonewalled. He just kept saying "No" and that I was wrong. I was alone in the shop with him when we started talking but eventually others came in. He then opened the door and told me to leave. It did not end well and I won't be going back. There's a great shoe repair place in Fremont and even though it's farther to drive, it's worth it. It's unfortunate when things change but it happens. But not being accountable for your actions, being made to feel that it's my fault, and being shown the door is not what I signed up for. I ended up paying over $27. Never again. read more

Brought a pair of boots I have been wearing for 16 years with my day to day uniform as an active duty military member. I have been getting them new soles for 16 years and I always get the exact same Vibram sole. When I brought them in and asked for that same sole he tried to convince me they were too soft for me and kept bringing me all of these soles that were not the sole I wanted and trying to talk me into them. I pulled the exact soles ip on the Vibram site and explained that I am more than happy to pay the premium and have him order them but he just brought me a few more soles and tried again to talk me into something else then just out of nowhere said "It's lunch." and proceeded to just walk to the back of the store, it was 4pm. I stood there sort of stunned briefly and then I just took my business to Old Style Shoe Shine and Repair in downtown Seattle where after exchanging a few text messages they knew exactly the soles I wanted and had everything ready to go by the time I arrived to drop them off where I could pay and leave in under minutes. read more

Very expensive to resole my shoes; decided to use him for the convenience. 1 month later my sole came a part in Italy; had them resoled and glued in Italy for a quarter of the price. Small business, likely just one person. Which I love. Was fast, decent price, but the restiching on my boots was all over the place. Mostly wild around the toe, where I would notice it the most. Fixing it would just leave a bunch of small holes. So no point in doing that I guess. One boot is perfect, so maybe that's something. No going back to him on my other pairs. He can fix anything. Because I wear running shoes most of the time, I don't get lots of shoes repaired. But this place can fix just about anything with leather, nylon, a zipper, etc. So when our day packs rip out, I take them there. When our Tevas separate, I take them there. I had a leather cell phone holder I'd gotten at Radio Shack--this shop put velcro on it so it wouldn't open accidentally and reinforced it with fresh leather when it began to rip. I had a terrific Trager computer bag (a great company). After years, its zipper went out, and I took it there as well. You get the picture. Just a fabulous place with great prices. read more

Peter is the best in the shoe repair game. He takes the time to note all of your repair requests and makes suggestions on others that will extend the life of your shoes. I have always been pleasantly surprised by how inexpensive his prices are for the quality of work you get. I have never had to wait more than 4 or 5 days for even the most challenging repairs and he is always pleasant and courteous. Gone are the days that I throw a pair of shoes away and replace them, getting them fixed is cheaper! *Bring cash or your checkbook, as he does not take credit cards! I've read a lot of great reviews for this pace and decided to finally take a couple of pairs of boots here for a clean/shine and repairs. The guy who works here is friendly and did a good job with the clean/shine on all the boots. The unfortunate part is that my one pair of leather boots that had some flaking occurring and needed the sole glued back in one spot on each boot was returned to me in a worse condition than when I brought them in. The spots that were flaking were filled in with a dark brown filler that did not match the boots and the leather above where the sole needed to be glued back got completely mangled, which was in perfectly good shape before hand. I personally couldn't believe what happened to that pair of boots and politely questioned the craftsmanship. I would have felt awful giving someone back their boots if it ended up looking like this. Unfortunately, I had to just throw away that pair of boots and should have just done the repairs myself. read more

My daughter purchased a cute pair of boots with her own money. Unfortunately, the dog thought they were cute chew toys. He gnawed on both of the heels, taking a chunk out of one. The leather had some bite marks, but the heels were ruined. She was heartbroken. I wasn't even certain they could be fixed, but decided to investigate the possibility. I took the boots to Admiral Shoe Repair where Peter assured me the heels could be fixed and gave me an estimate that was way cheaper than purchasing a replacement pair. Three days later when I picked them up, I was astounded! Peter explained that he had built up the missing chunk, and had given the heels a new wrapping. However, he wasn't pleased with the finished product because of the bite marks in the leather. He took it upon himself to use some leather filler to plug the tooth marks - at no extra charge. In the end, only by looking very closely could you tell the boots had been repaired. The workmanship was amazing. Aside from the quality, it was Peter's gesture of going above and beyond what he had promised in order to make a young girl's hard earned boots look new again that gained him a new and loyal customer! read more

I brought in a pair of leather dress shoes that needed new insoles; the original ones fell out a few years ago. The owner found that the soles were coming off as well, which I did not notice because it had been a long time since I had worn the shoes. I feel like I have a brand new pair of shoes at a fraction of the price! I have been oh-so-unfortunately "blessed" with huge feet and chicken legs--meaning I always have to get my boots tailored! I have had this service done before at all types of places in three different states, and have never, never, NEVER seen my boots returned to me so perfectly tailored at such a reasonable price! Not only do they fit absolutely perfectly from ankle to calf and everywhere in between, they look stunning and were done 6 days early for $65. Just as an example, I've had a pair done at Nordstroms before that were not sewn as well at a price of $150--over twice the amount of Admiral! I hardly ever take the time to do this, so believe me when I tell you that I was so moved by the price, quality, and price of this repair to write this review. The location of this shoe repair shop is really convenient. Peter (the owner) is cheerful, helpful, and knows his stuff. In addition to doing CPR to my shoes that I wear far too long in between visits, he recently did a job for me putting grommets into a purse that I made. Consistently good, never great. I've had a few pairs of shoes repaired here, as well as a messenger bag, and a purse. Yes, he can fix just about anything made of leather, not just shoes, so that's pretty awesome! My only complaint is that every time I go here I struggle to fully communicate with the owner. I always drop my item off and leave believing that we are on the same page, then when I pick it up its only *mostly* done the way I wanted. This may be partly because I have unrealistic expectations around making old items like new again, but it's also partly because this is a small shop. For example, they may not have the exact type of shoe laces you need, etc. Overall though, this place has prompt service, fair prices, and quality work. read more

Was very happy with the work done by Peter. I brought him a pair of boots last week. It was a pair that my husband had gotten me a couple years ago, and I wasn't ready to let them go just yet. The heels had been completely worn down in some spots. I asked if it was possible to basically re-build the heels, as they were too far gone to just be filled. Peter went over a few options with me, told me ahead of time that it would be $60+ tax (cash or check only). Went in Friday to pick them up, and I was so pleased with how they came out! He heels are sturdy and I can tell he put a lot of work in to make them look really high-end. He also cleaned off the scuffs and put some glue where the bottom was starting to pull away. Will definitely be back to Peter when these (or any) of my shoes need work. read more

The guy can't speak English very well so there must have been a communication error when I was telling him about the finish on my boots. I needed them dyed black and he dyed them without taking the finish off my boots so the black dye started peeling off after two hours of use ... $500 boots wtf dude. This guy sabotaged the boots I brought in for repair, after I declined to have the heels replaced, by opening a port in the rubber heels and filling the cavities in the heels with gravel, I kid you not. The work I did ask him to do was also of inferior quality. My advice: have shoe repair work done by the repair shop on Fsuntleroy, where the owners are honest. read more

I came here based on the reviews and I was not disappointed. The owner is courteous, efficient and thorough. I brought in a pair of Arizona style Birkenstocks that had fallen on bad times since I bought them years upon years ago. The cork was spent, the sole was bald and the leather straps were falling off the base. He showed me a sample of work done on another pair of similar shoes and enumerated exactly what each step of the repair would cost before telling me the total which was totally reasonable considering the fact that I had broken these shoes in and didn't want to spent $100 on another pair. I have been wearing them since and they feel just like new. Thank you so much! I am disappointed. I recently moved to West Seattle and wanted to find a nearby shoe repair. So I looked at the reviews and this place seemed decent. I figured the other 1 star reviews were just anomalies. I guess I was wrong. I asked him to shorten my boot shaft and he shortened them to two distinctly different heights. I asked him to correct it and gave him a week to do so. When I returned, he tried to give me someone else's shoes! He finally found mine in a pile and realized that he had forgotten about them. He did offer to mail them to me, which was nice, but of course I don't trust him to get that right. He did clean a different pair of my shoes and did a nice job, but the other issues greatly outweigh any benefit of coming here. Darn it, I really wanted it to work. Oh, also, it's very expensive. Guess I will keep going to my old place way out of my way. :( read more

I have a pair of 8(!)-year-old Fluevog boots that I have worn and loved nearly to death. For the last few years they have had holes in the front and every cobbler I checked with said there was no way it could be fixed. Swanson's(?) in Wallingford did hand-stitch them which was okay but kinda looked janky. Last month I checked with Dave the Cobbler in Fremont on the advice of a friend and, true to form from past experiences with him, he was rude to me and told me to take my business elsewhere. No problem, dude. Hate to be you. Enter Admiral Shoe Repair! First off, the cobbler who owns it is very nice and polite. After looking at my boots (at this point the zippers needed fixed too), he showed me a photo of loafers that were completely trashed -- soles falling off, lopsided tongues, holes in the front... oy vey. Then he got a pair of shoes from the shelf -- the same ones! Incredible work. Needless to say, I left my boots there. Done within a week, he presented them to me with the holes patched from the inside (just a little dent marks how big the holes were) and the zippers fixed. Plus a free shine to boot (pun intended). Incredibly fair price and kindness for free. He is the real deal in skilled cobblers. read more

Went to 3 shoe repair shops to fix a broken heel on my knee high boots. Nobody was able to help until I came here. He came up with the idea to put a zipper in boots so he could drill the heel back in. It was a reasonable cost considering what he had to do, and when I came to pick up the boots- they looked amazing! Highly recommend! read more

BUT upon picking up - stain was bigger AND he scraped off the chloe name which was nowhere near the stain. I first visited his shop last Halloween, because I had a bunch of scrap leather that I needed put together to make a quill for the arrows in my costume. I knew he worked with leather, so I thought he might be able to help. He made me a beautiful leather pouch that was so lovely, it served not just as a part of my Halloween costume, but became a fashionable bag that I carry around town. Peter has also cleaned my favorite suede boots several times, and done a great job. They are rather intricate and difficult to clean, because of all of the straps, but he always gives them back to me looking superb. Most recently I brought a pair of leather boots to Peter, because they were too big for my legs. They were very cute, but several sizes too big on my skinny legs. I didn't know if it was possible to redesign the boots to fit better, but I asked Peter what he could do, and a week later, I had a new pair of favorite boots on my hands! He did an incredible job. I love giving my business to Peter, because he's such a down-to-earth, skillful artisan. I always know I'm going to like what he does. My wife bought a small backpack bag at a shop inside SeaTac as we were going out of town for vacation. She really liked the bag and carried it everywhere, even after we got home. One of the vinyl loops holding the straps on broke in half and made the bag pretty much useless. She paid almost 100 bucks for the bag and we couldn't really return it at the airport shop, so we brought it in to get a repair estimate. He said he could fix it for 20 bucks and we could pick it up the next day. It was ready as promised and he replaced the vinyl piece with leather. He even replaced the other vinyl loop with the same leather so it would match exactly and be much stronger, and we still only had to pay the price he originally quoted. It's now much better than when it was brand new. I will definitely be bringing my business back here. read more
