That was the first thing we saw walking in. I would have run back to the car, but it was pouring rain. The room was filthy. We had just finished a 5-hour drive, and with the storm, we didn't see any other option but to stay the night. I didn't sleep; I was freaking out, basically in tears. I'm terrified of spiders. My husband managed to fall asleep, and he got a few bug bites to show for it. In the morning, we turned in the key and told the employee about our problem. They were very nice. When we inquired about a refund, they said we would have to go through Booking.com for our money back. We thanked them and headed to another hotel. Booking says they are disputing our refund, and they couldn't come to an agreement with them. I wasn't on vacation; I was attending a doctor's appointment, and I tried to make it more enjoyable for my child by turning it into a weekend trip. Yes, they make you sign a waiver that says no refunds, period, but I was expecting them to at least have to provide a habitable room. Over $400 for a room that no one should be expected to stay in. I've had dirty hotel rooms before, but the bugs that were biting are inexcusable. Their refusal to give me my money back and not answering my email just adds insult to injury. I didn't realize that when I booked a room here, I was paying for stress and spider bites.

This year we spent a total of 5 nights there and immediately noticed a change in staff at check-in and subsequently with the staff servicing rooms. Nothing seemed quite as good or as efficient as in the past, but not bad either. The negatives include a large spider web on our private deck that had obviously been there for quite some time given its size. The breakfast offerings were very similar to those in the past except MIA were the make your own waffles. In our room we noted the sink had a crack in it, the baseboard was rusted and there was a chip in the petite walk-in shower. Last, but perhaps not least was the cheap, one ply toilet paper.

All rooms face the bay and have their own balcony. Lots of amenities including a gift shop with Belfast branded coffee mugs, clothing, stuffed moose, etc. A fitness center, a pool, hot tub and sauna, lots of lawn games including giant chess, and a back deck with couches and a propane fire pit. They sell wine and beer at the front desk and it was a perfect night of relaxing outside under the stars by the fire with a cold beverage. Our room was clean and spacious, the front desk employees were kind and helpful, and there was plenty of parking close to the entrance that led to the room. Though this hotel is on the other side of the bay and therefor a bit far out of downtown Belfast, it was still a great and relaxing place and I'm glad I made the choice to book it.

There are a limited amount of spaces in front with zero room to maneuver your car to fit in a space. There is a public lot right next door for a fee and hopefully you'll get a space. We were in the Waterfront King Suite. The room was lovely and had a great view!! However, getting hot water was inconsistent. We had noisy neighbors who we could hear using the hairdryer at 6:42am, and shouting down the hall and slamming their door at 7:30am. At 10:45pm there were sounds like chairs being dragged over hardwood for about 30 minutes. They do give you an opportunity to order breakfast that is delivered to your room and a time you specify. However, both days I had rancid milk for my coffee. I wrote a note to the staff after the first morning, and they served spoiled milk to me again on the second morning!! The food was also vastly under seasoned. I ordered the quinoa bowl both days and got two totally different dishes. And, my wife's potatoes were completely burnt. So for the money we spent on the room, I cannot recommend this place due to parking, noise, and food quality.

However, I couldn't find an email anywhere that stated the check-in process. I assume crime is very low in the area so I guess my key being out is ok. As others mentioned, the rooms are decorated with items you would see in your grandma's house. Since it was covid, there is no breakfast or anything. I understand not serving due to covid but other B&B's found ways to improvise. I was disappointed that there was not even a Keurig or small coffee pot in the room. No bottled water left or anything to help. Just a note that said to not use the dishes in the kitchen & bags of ice in the freezer. Other B&B's along the Maine coast had coffee in room & served grab-n-go breakfast items for about the same price paid here. I'm sure the family that owns this is nice, local people so I feel bad for not giving 5 stars but I have to be honest. Was trying to support local rather than a chain hotel.

The Towne motel had great reviews and lucky for us we were able to book 2 nights there for the 4th! The room was cozy and perfect for the two of us. We were located on the first floor, and our parking spot was right outside our door. It was quiet and comfortable. In the morning the hosts provided homemade breakfast. It was so cute! We were fortunate enough to try the peach/plum pie, lemon cake loaf, and yogurt and granola. It was so good! The two women running the show were friendly and helpful and gave us plenty of recommendations for things to do in the area and what restaurants to try. We were just minutes away walking downtown, which was clutch! Yes, there is parking in the downtown, but it fills up quickly during peak hours so the location was amazing. I would 100% stay here again.

We ended up spending a week with the Ledges are our base - it's ideally located between the towns of Rockport and Rockland with easy access in either direction. We were in a room with a kingsized bed with a balcony - the coastal view from the balcony is wonderful and the air very fresh and clean. The room was immaculate and included an empty dorm-sized refrigerator and large TV. The layout was interesting with an extra sink in the larger room outside of the bath which we found very convenient. It had all the usual bits - I believe this was an older, classic motel that has been upgraded, but it's retained the original neon (No) Vacancy sign - we would use it to figure out how close were were to the entrance (there's three (No) Vacancy signs traveling north from Claws so by counting them it made it easier to look for the entry, the roads are very dark and often foggy. Breakfast is in a room behind the service desk and included most of the regular suspects. Most of the proteins were vegetarian except for hardboiled eggs. You have the ubiquitous waffle-maker and a coffee machine that makes coffee to order - I found it pretty weak but in general most of the coffee I've tried in Maine has been watery. The owners also offer vegetarian Indian food on the weekends - you order through a website and walk over to pick them up - unfortunately we got too busy to try them out but plan to the next time - heard many good comments about the food and it smelled divine. The staff at the Ledges were super nice and very accommodating. We tried to keep the room very clean (we tend to be super clean anyway) and used the towels sparingly - hopefully they didn't mind forgoing the daily cleaning. This is a solid 4.2/5 stars.

There are a few things that were of note, the railing on the balcony is totally unsafe and not up to code! The beds were so uncomfortable and are literally Glorified cot. The outside of the building is dingy and mildew growing. There was a musty smell in the room and common areas. While the back yard space is huge there's no draw. There is a hugely missed opportunity there. Add a firepit ,corn hole, picnic tables that are not rotten! The "stairs" to the water are COMPLETELY unsafe!! And a lawsuit waiting to happen! The pool area has broken loungers, no umbrellas or tables. The rug area has mold. Overall I would say that our experience was mediocre.
