What a hidden gem this place is. Out of state event and we had no idea where to stay. So glad we found this inn. No frills but clean as ever. Hubby said he's never seen a tub as white & clean. Bed was comfy with great linens & pillows. Free wifi, quiet spot with coffee in the room, cute small fridge & small microwave. There's a Hanniford across the street & dunks right next door. Staff is super friendly. Vending machine in lobby but I only saw water & drinks. Chips & candy would have been nice but again there's a store very close. Definitely gonna save this place for nxt visit to Maine. read more

This motor inn is well kept and clean. It is only one hour away from Acadia NP and Bar Harbor. If you are looking for value away from the highly commercialized tourist places, this is it. There are several good places to eat nearby and a nice river walk with a view of the bridge and fort close by. I would give it five stars except the bed pillows are fairly flat and the room's coffee cups are flimsy, hard to hold and hot. read more

Needed (or hoped to find) a budget spot to overnight for a business layover. The BMI was that place. Clean, quiet, and affordable. It's not a luxury inn, so if you need that, find another place to lay your head. But for me, in town to catch a documentary about the closure of yet another paper mill (for an article I've been working on), I got to park my car and walk uptown and then back. Bonus was seeing the Penobscot Narrows Bridge at night, lit up like a giant Christmas decoration. Nice to actually put some boots (shoes) on the ground in writing about a place the way it's supposed to be done, even in these days of journalism-by-Twitter. Being so close to Dunkin' Donuts for my morning coffee (just walk to the end of the driveway and take a left), and across the street from a Hannaford were perks for me. I'd say if you were looking to stage a drive down (yes, flatlander, it's "down") the Maine coast to Acadia, or points east, this would be a good place to lay-up for the night. A walk downtown to catch a movie at The Alamo Theater, or sitting out on the patio at Verona Wine and Design, or grabbing a book at BookStacks would be recommendations other than sitting in your room and watching the television. Sit at the bar at MacLeod's, or have a bowl of their chowder. Back up Route 1 to Camden, rested and ready for my day. read more

Traveling without a scheduled itinerary, my wife and I were unable to find reasonably priced, or virtually ANY lodging near the Bar Harbor/Acadia Nat'l. Park area. Came across this operation within 20-30 miles, called, and was pleasantly surprised with the positive, accommodating reception on the phone. While definitely an original motor-lodge type throw-back, the facilities had been tastefully updated, and was meticulously clean. Following our stay, we initially encountered a problematic misunderstanding as a result of an innocent accident that we had in the room. Once communicated, however, the owner's understanding and willingness to accept our (honest) explanation resulted in what I hope was a mutually beneficial, and gracious outcome. This Inn is quiet, clean and convenient. Dog friendly! Very helpful and friendly staff. Recently updated rooms which still feel cozy. The beds are extremely comfortable. We were able to see the town's 4th of July fireworks from the front lawn of the property! we also picnic tables and Adirondack chairs dot the property. Dunkin Donuts and grocery store are walking distance. Fort Knox park is on the river just a few minutes drive. Highly recommend. read more

When my husband and I were thinking about moving to Maine, we chose to stay at Bucksport Motor Inn for the week. It was adorable, super clean, comfortable, close to everything and the owners were so nice. When we bought our house and moved here a few months later, we stayed with them again for almost a week while our house was being de-winterized and some urgent repairs were done. The motel is set up a bit above route 1 (the main drag heading to Ellsworth) - because it is up off the street, street noise is truly minimal. I chose this motel by the photo, since it looked so charmingly retro, and the price was reasonable. When we arrived, we got a friendly greeting, and found that the inside looked as good as the exterior. The room was comfortable, and had everything we expected. Stayed at the Inn for four nights while touring the area. Our host, the owner, gave us some good tips as to what to see locally beside going to Acadia National Park. We travel with our dog and she was welcomed. The owner also suggested a place that does doggie daycare on the days we needed. The Inn is very clean and comfortable. Wow, what a great find. A real relief from the overpriced B&B's in this area. Sparkling clean spacious rooms. Fridge, microwave, Keurig, flat screen TV and Wi-Fi in rooms. Adjacent to Dunkin doughnuts and across the street from grocery store. Our room had two queen beds and we paid $79 with a AAA discount. An old fashioned but updated Motel that will keep you coming back. read more

I would have given this motel five stars in that the rooms were decent and well furnished with necessities, the people extremely friendly and the Motor Inn is conveniently placed with access to a supermarket and various eateries in the area. While true to its DNA as a 1950's/'60's typical road motel (back to the era when Howard Johnson's was the place to eat when travelling) the owners have done a tremendous job bringing the rooms up to date with appealing bathrooms in which all the plumbing works perfectly, and with a simple but appealing decor. Cleanliness is top of the line. My only quibble, and hence my reluctance to give the place the full five stars it should have, is that the beds themselves are way too soft and I recommended to the owner/manager that he should consider updating them with firmer mattresses. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip up North. Oh, and by the way, the prices are reasonable... read more

They tried to rip me off! I booked the room on Expedia for $49. I didn't bother to read the confirmation email which listed the price as "CA$69.00 ($49.04)." I have no idea why; I'm American logging in from the US and paying with a US credit card. Normally, when I book on Expedia, I pay online and that's that--I pay Expedia and Expedia pays the hotel. But here, I booked as usual (with a credit card) but apparently with this one, that's not the case. The hotel collects the money. Fine but when I went to pay, they insisted that the price was $69, not $69 Canadian but $69 US. After much argument, they agreed to charge $49. Then, when I was sitting in my car and about to leave, the owner came out again and yelled again that the price was $69. Really upsetting and I find it hard to believe that this was anything other than a deliberate attempt to rip me off. The placard on the wall in the room listed the price as $55. That said, I had no problems with the room itself but I would never go back there. read more

My wife and I stayed at Bucksport Motor Inn this past week because it was on the way to Bar Harbor, and very inexpensive. What we found was that it was also clean, neat, comfortable, and beautifully laid out in a 1950's retro look. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful over the phone, and called me several times to be sure an original snafu was straightened out to my satisfaction, and gave me a 10% discount for my trouble. The room was large and freshly painted. We have decided that if we ever need to stay anywhere in that area that we would go back, and recommend it to our friends. read more
