You can find Ledges by the Bay at 930 Commercial St, Rockport, ME 04856. This is on the main coastal road that stretches along several coastal towns. There's plenty of on-premise parking. We ended up spending a week with the Ledges are our base - it's ideally located between the towns of Rockport and Rockland with easy access in either direction. We were in a room with a kingsized bed with a balcony - the coastal view from the balcony is wonderful and the air very fresh and clean. The room was immaculate and included an empty dorm-sized refrigerator and large TV. The layout was interesting with an extra sink in the larger room outside of the bath which we found very convenient. It had all the usual bits - I believe this was an older, classic motel that has been upgraded, but it's retained the original neon (No) Vacancy sign - we would use it to figure out how close were were to the entrance (there's three (No) Vacancy signs traveling north from Claws so by counting them it made it easier to look for the entry, the roads are very dark and often foggy. Breakfast is in a room behind the service desk and included most of the regular suspects. Most of the proteins were vegetarian except for hardboiled eggs. You have the ubiquitous waffle-maker and a coffee machine that makes coffee to order - I found it pretty weak but in general most of the coffee I've tried in Maine has been watery. The owners also offer vegetarian Indian food on the weekends - you order through a website and walk over to pick them up - unfortunately we got too busy to try them out but plan to the next time - heard many good comments about the food and it smelled divine. The staff at the Ledges were super nice and very accommodating. We tried to keep the room very clean (we tend to be super clean anyway) and used the towels sparingly - hopefully they didn't mind forgoing the daily cleaning. This is a solid 4.2/5 stars. read more

We have stayed here several times over the years. However this year was a bit disappointing. The #1 reason we chose to stay is the view. #2 would be the proximity to neighboring locations. There are a few things that were of note, the railing on the balcony is totally unsafe and not up to code! The beds were so uncomfortable and are literally Glorified cot. The outside of the building is dingy and mildew growing. There was a musty smell in the room and common areas. While the back yard space is huge there's no draw. There is a hugely missed opportunity there. Add a firepit ,corn hole, picnic tables that are not rotten! The "stairs" to the water are COMPLETELY unsafe!! And a lawsuit waiting to happen! The pool area has broken loungers, no umbrellas or tables. The rug area has mold. Overall I would say that our experience was mediocre. read more

Found a big ball of hair in the shower, the bed coverlet was covered in what looked like bits of black charcoal, maybe fell from air conditioner above it? We booked this motel by booking.com for 2 nights. Within 1 min we realized it was 2 hours drive from bar harbor. We quickly call them to cancel the booking. The lady asked us to call next morning and talk to manager. First thing in morning we called manager and explained our situation, he said no and blah blah.,, ( like a rude teacher) I completely understand their cancellation policy but there should be some kind of empathy toward our situation. This hotel is okay. There is a microwave in office which is again "no" to fish food. Come on living by the coast, how can someone say No to fish. Lot of spiders especially in front of door and balcony. I was scared to do in and out from room. AC was on the top of the wall, meaning you have to stand on the bed to access it. read more

Stayed overnight and had a great view of the bay. Room was clean, bathroom was stocked with essentials and the bed was comfortable. It's on the main road, but that didn't bother our stay. We stayed at the hotel as part of a larger group, around 10 rooms. When we checked in on Friday we found that the room has what appeared to be blood on the door and side of the door and a very dirty tub. I didn't want to make it a big deal since my 2 yr old was sleeping so I went to the front, let the attendant (Alan) know about the situation and he let me know he would pass along to management and I would get a call the next day during our stay and the issue would be addressed. We got back from our family event the next day late to find that the blood was still there and tub still dirty. The next morning, as we were leaving I let the attendant at the front know the situation. (Richard) He said someone from management would call me to resolve the issue. Shortly after, on my way home Richard called me and told me that the stain was wood filler and that there was nothing he could do because the original attendant from Friday didn't let him know. I requested a call from management, he said basically they will never call you back. I know for a fact it is not wood filler, it wiped off very easily and I have worked with wood filler before. In the picture, it is only half of what was on there because I wiped it off with a damp towel. Anyone who has worked with wood filler knows it does not easily come off. Even it was something else, no one in management cared to follow up for 2 days. In addition, my wife didn't want to use the tub during the stay because it was filthy. Richard made the point that because our sign wasn't out, it was our fault no one went into the room. We didn't want our room serviced by housekeeping, we just wanted those specific things addressed which I clearly relayed to the Friday attendant and if there was a call back as promised, I could have relayed that message again. While I am here, the room wasn't particularly clean, the breakfast is not good and with blood and the tub being dirty we won't be back. I reached out to Nick in management via email with my concerns and Richard was right, no call or email back. No doubt this is a nice place to stay. However, I was just charged $50 to cancel a reservation in LESS THAN 1 HOUR from reserving it! I rec'd an email confirmation letter almost immediately and saw that: If you leave later than 10am it's another $50 ALL arrivals MUST BE IN BY 11pm May to October. 6PM from October to April. But you cannot check in before 3pm. If you leave later than noon, it's an automatic full day charge. If the room is "contaminated" you will be charged $250! That's for smoking. Pets $150. I don't smoke but . . And if caught smoking on the property you will be kicked out and all charges/fees still apply. They "reserve the right" to place you in a "similar" room if the one you booked in advance isn't available. Why would that happen if you are reserved?? I would suggest that there are other alternatives to this place that are friendlier and more reasonable with policies. read more

The motel was okay. I stayed for 3 nights at a price of about $220 per night and they didn't clean my room the second day. They said if you didn't put your Make Up Room sign on your door by 9 am, they would not clean your room that day! Really??'!!! Also the breakfast was mediocre at best. read more

Windows on the first floor don't close completely or lock. AC unit and humidifier that you have to run continuously are super loud. Run down, terrible bed mattress, sheets smell. We didn't even want to walk in the bathroom or take a shower. Disgusting. I gave it a one star bc of the view/location but place is a dump. read more

Had a nice stay at Ledges by the Bay! Classic motel feel, but more clean without the worry of being in a sketchy neighborhood. The staff is very nice, accommodating, and provided us with tons of information about the area. Parking was practically in front of our door, which was very convenient. The view from the balcony was fantastic, although I do wish there had been a screen on the slider to let fresh air in without the bugs inviting themselves in. Everything was very clean. The air conditioner worked great and although it was on the noisier side, it created a sort of white noise for passing cars. There's an electric fireplace in the room as well. Water pressure and temperature in the shower were good. Convenient location near so many things to do in the area. Pretty quiet, despite being on a main road. Mini fridge in the room fit everything we needed for the night. Ice room had a microwave. Bed was pretty comfortable and clean, pillows were soft and there were plenty of them! Tons of towels in the room as well. The price for booking was reasonable. We didn't make it to breakfast or see the pool, since we were only there for a night. Check-in was smooth. We arrived around 3:30/4:00pm and checked out by 10am with no issues. Would definitely stay again. read more

The rooms have great views of the bay! The rooms are clean and simple, two full size beds and a mini fridge. Nice bathroom with a bathtub, there are two sinks, one in the bathroom and one in the room outside the bathroom which is actually handy in case someone is using the bathroom at the time, you can use the extra sink and mirror to get ready. The location of the motel is convenient, few minutes from Shaw's and hannaford for groceries, ten minutes into downtowns of beautiful Camden and Rockland. There are wooden steps to get down to the rocks from the grass on the bay water, we went down during low tide and it was so pretty. The buffet breakfast had slim pickings and could definitely use more varieties of food and drinks. read more

The Ledges by The Bay is a nice motel, with a lot going for it. Location-wise, it couldn't be better! It is one of a handful of former Midcentury mom-and-pop motels situated on Glen Cove, Maine. So, most rooms have a splendid view the owners count on to compensate for the many cut corners and minor inconveniences of this place. For example, at $181/night, you shouldn't have to spend ten minutes with your arm in floating biofilm and flecks of rust or feces, pulling nearly 2 cups of accumulated hair and gunk from the backed-up shower drain before you can take a shower. The staff in this place are so sweet and dear, but the business feels more like a revenue engine for an absentee corporate landlord than a mom-and-pop family business. The complementary free breakfast we had was inedible--mushy apple, fishy (almost rotten-tasting) hard-boiled egg, stale, weak coffee--just kind of gross. Honestly, they'd do better to remove the "free breakfast" feature altogether than to phone it in with such crap. Similarly, other cost-saving decisions on the corporate level degrade the experience of staying here. In all the new construction, the bathroom exhaust fans are so loud that you wake up when anyone in the building goes to the bathroom-- and you can't avoid using the fan unless you can pee or shower in the dark, because the rattling cacophony is linked to the lights. One of the most frustrating features was the poor WiFi, which drops out and/or slows intermittently. C'mon Ledges. It's the 21sr century. Also, the soap takes forever to rinse off. If they want to save on their water bill by maintaining so little water pressure, they should at least choose a brand of soap that rinses off easily, and doesn't leave you with an itchy, sticky film all day. The Ledges by the Bay isn't a terrible motel. The view alone made our stay worthwhile--but they cut so many corners, and cheap out on so many simple details that they make their customers feel unwelcome and unappreciated as anything more than a number on a spreadsheet. It's too bad. We'd stayed here many times when it was a small, inexpensive place run personally by the owners who lived on site. Now, the home where they once lived looks derelict, and the updated, expanded, sprawling complex below feels like just another chunk of corporate strip mall culture blighting a spectacular location. read more

Think very carefully about staying here. We were staying somewhere else in Maine prior to our reservation at Ledges by the Bay and got there before the check in. We pulled in to see if it were possible to check in early, and if not, find out where we could go until check in time - we were unfamiliar with the area. My partner remained in the truck, I went inside. There was no one there. A very hostile man walked up to my partner's truck and asked him what he wanted. My partner is retired police and is used to dealing with all kinds of people. The way he was approached made him feel very unsure about our anticipated stay. I was still inside at the time, and the employee was told that I was inside to see if we could get in early. This man proceeded to swing open the door, did not greet me at all, just glared at me and said check in time is at 3:00. I wanted to respond, and he again repeated check in time was 3:00. I was fine with that, we just thought we would check to see if it were available earlier but he didn't even give me a chance to ask. I then asked where we could go in the area until 3:00. He looked at me with an angry face and replied, 'where to go for what?' I felt it was only going to get more confrontational, so I asked where in the area could we go for lunch. Without hesitation, he told me to take a right out of the parking lot, take a right at the second light. Well.... this took us to the local hospital. It would be great if we needed care, however we did not. We did find a place for lunch down the road and after discussing our encounter with this man, it was decided we did not feel confident about staying at Ledges, nor did I feel safe. I booked through Expedia, went online and cancelled the booking. We did find another place to stay in the area. I would NOT recommend this place due to the rude attitude of this employee. Whether he was the caretaker of this place or just an employee, his actions were not acceptable; he was rude, made me feel like we were inconveniencing him and definitely did not make me feel welcome. I requested through Expedia a refund however they claimed I was a 'no show', therefore no refund. I was NOT a no-show, I cancelled due to poor service, rude reaction and not feeling welcome OR safe. read more

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE customer service experience. I was using a third party booking system which failed to confirm my reservation. Being pressed on time to make a reservation for my trip I refreshed and did not see the same deal so booked a seperate hotel stay. Though I never had confirmation of my stay at the Ledges By the Bay I did see the charge in my account. Tried to get in contact with them.... another strange experience in itself as they have several numbers listed. I explained my situation and requested to please cancel my reservation and was told very rudely no. within 72 hours you will be charged a cancellation fee to which i said that's fine what is the fee. The fee is the entire cost of the room. I explained that was crazy and asked again if there was anything they could do to help me out. "No" I spent a lengthy period of time speaking with the third party booking agent who also reached out to #Ledgesbythebay and requested to cancel my reservation and waive the fee. Ledges refused again even when it was coming from the company. I then sent an email asking them to please please please work with me and even allow my to change the dates, in my email i said "I'm asking for a bit of kindness" and once again they replied no. The location is great, right by the cute town of Camden. The views of this hotel are breathtaking. I mean you wake up, go on your balcony and nothing in the world could go wrong. The room was very spacious and clean. I like that there is an extra sink and mirror outside of the bathroom so that while someone else is in the shower, you an use the mirror to get ready. The staff was very nice, we arrived very late as we had got lost. I recommend this hotel! The price was also great for the accommodations. We decided to stop here for a night on our fall road trip through Maine and it didn't disappoint! I usually get a little nervous with motels, but this one was updated, had nice amenities (a fridge/freezer and a Keurig), a great view over the bay and most importantly was clean! I am delighted we chose The Ledges by the Bay. The location is central to Rockland, Rockport, and Camden with plenty to see and do in the area. This establishment is perfect. My traveling companion and I have stayed in hotels and inns all over the world and this is the first time every aspect of features and service was just right. Our room was clean and spacious. Everything worked. Even the TV remote was easy to figure out and the TV had a large selection of channels for viewing at the end of a long day of touring. The bathroom had plenty of space and good water pressure. The beds were clean and firm. There was a generous sized refrigerator in the room. We had a great view of the bay and a nice back balcony from which to enjoy the view. The hotel reception person was friendly and helpful upon arrival. We didn't have any further contact until we left a few days later because we were happy with everything. In the mornings, coffee, yogurt, and local pastries were served in a charming furnished terrace with indoor and outdoor table seating. I still can't get over the amazing blueberry muffins and sinful scones I ate. Yogurt, bagels, and other breads were offered too. Oh, I do have one minor complaint. The coffee dispensed from large coffee thermoses was rather weak. I hope this will prompt a change. Access to the hotel and parking were easy. Parking spaces were near to the rooms. The grounds around the hotel were thoughtfully landscaped with a variety of plants, trees, and flowers, and lush green lawns, which made a lasting positive impression. Next time we visit the area; this will be our first choice. They even put on a hotel fireworks display at night, which was a fun surprise! I highly recommend this charming hotel. read more

My gf and I stayed here for one night and couldn't have asked for a better hotel at this cost and w a beautiful oceanside view. Some individuals were complaining about the cleanliness of their rooms, but our was definitely up to quality standards. I think there was a gap between the door and walkway in some rooms, which allowed bugs to get in. Luckily, we did not experience that problem. I wish that I had taken pictures of our room to show how nice it really was. I was completely satisfied with our stay and will book this hotel again if I ever visit this area again. read more

I spent a week in Maine not too long ago, and had a lovely time. Conveniently located. My stay here enabled me to take a number of fun day trips to lighthouses, museums and small towns nearby, but easily make it back in time to enjoy a nice relaxing evening on a balcony off my room which overlooked a boat gently bobbing on the cove's waters. The room was decorated with a pleasant beach theme and in pristine condition when I arrived (and kept that way by staff during my stay). Their service was also unfailingly courteous and helpful. This is not a kid friendly motel!!!! We usually stay here when we go away because it's the cheapest option in Rockland. However after our last stay here we will never stay here again. We had our 3 children with us, ages 3, 14, and 16. Shortly after we checked in and got inside our room our 3 year old opened the bedside table and found 2 condoms and 3 dirty $1 bills. The next morning we woke up to find that one of her washable magic markers had exploded on a pillow. So when checking out we let them know and there was nothing said to us other than thanks for letting us know. When we called 2 days later to book a room we were told we were no longer able to stay there. When we asked why the guy on the other end told us management made the decision and hung up on us. So we drove there to find out why. And the guy again was rude and told us there was nothing he could do. So we asked for management and we were told he was gone and he couldn't give us Nick's phone number. We told him we wanted to get ahold of him. He said the only thing he can give us is an email address. I sent one to Nick that night asking about their decision to no longer allow us to stay and still have not heard back from him and it has been 3 days. I visited the Ledges about a year ago. The photos posted here on yelp look similar, but they look like business photos taken from before years of wear. I hope they are remodeled photos from my previous visit. Maybe the business owner can post new photos. I had called ahead of time and requested a wheelchair accessible room. The staff on the phone were very friendly. The first woman I spoke with stated she would put me in contact with the manager, who called me later that night. The room was available as requested upon our arrival. I would place this facility in the motel category. It was pouring when we arrived and didn't stop until the next day. My greatest issue with this place was the room. It was poorly cared for and dirty. The photos here on Yelp are NOT at all what this place looked like. I hate to say that because the owners/staff were so friendly, but our room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. There was food on the floor (a wrapper, popcorn) and several dead bugs. And we were told it had been stayed in the night before. The bathroom, although perfectly accommodating to my wheelchair bound husband, definitely needed updating. We ended up going out for a late dinner and then leaving bright and early so that we could spend as little time as possible in this room. I read how others rave about the view-which I can imagine would be fantastic even from our room, but with the rain it was ridiculously foggy and we couldn't see 5 feet in front of us. We stayed here because we needed to, and I definitely wouldn't stay again. Maybe the other rooms are nicer. Also, they offer a *little* continental breakfast in the morning. But I opted for the Dunkin Donuts 5 min down the road. Tip: Go slow driving at the main entrance, the threshold has a high bump. read more

My wife and I stayed at The Ledges for two nights. We were already in Maine on a family vacation, and we added two more nights because of a memorial service we needed to go to in Rockport. Unfortunately, the memorial coincided with Lobster Festival, so the room rates were increased to $200 a night for a Queen. There were two sliding glass doors leading to a balcony with a stunning view of the bay. Unfortunately, only one of those doors had a screen, and the screen had lots of holes in it. The room quickly filled with flies. The mini-split A/C unit was quite loud and not very effective, but since we didn't have the option of opening the door for fresh air, we had to deal with it. We complained to the front desk about the screen, and the girl there told us that there were no replacement screens and no vacant rooms to put us in, and that there was nothing she could do about it. Later, we discovered mold on the shower curtain. Later still, the front desk tried to put my wife's father (also in town for the same memorial service) in our room instead of the room he had reserved. After the first night, the housekeeping service came through and replenished our towels, but didn't give us any new soap or shampoo. We tried the complimentary "breakfast" after the first night, but we had to go out for breakfast afterwards. Upon checkout, we talked with a different woman at the front desk and gave her our laundry list of complaints. She apologized and refunded a generous portion of our bill. The service that we got on our way out the door was great. The view from the balcony was breathtaking. Apart from that, we did not have a very good stay. read more

Paid $190 to stay here in mid-July. The room (#104) we were in was small but updated. Can only watch the tv from the bed position. Very small bathroom with the noisiest fan I've ever experienced. The fan is connected to the light switch to so it is ALWAYS on whenever you use the bathroom. I actually downloaded a decibel app for my phone that showed it as 80 DB - the same noise as a very loud vacuum cleaner. No screen to the porch slider so you can't keep the door open for fresh air without bugs. No TV channel guide in the room. No motel layout plan or info to show you where the ice-machine was or when the breakfast room opened (hours are inconveniently posted at the front desk). No restaurant guide or local tourism information in the room. Expensive room with so little amenities or thought put into the room experience by the owners. Surprising for the cost. I invite the owner to spend an hour in the bathroom. read more
