We bought an Querobabi burnt adobe house and have done an extensive renovation on it. Querobabi adobe is no longer made. Overall, the adobe is in great condition but needed some patch work from the previous homeowner nailing things to the walls, damage from tile removal, and blending new mortar with old on an adobe wall addition. I did an exhaustive search for adobe repair and came across Adobe King. The owner Adan came out and took a look. They were able to repair 70 year old adobe to look new. They patched holes and reshaped broken adobe blocks using mortar. I was impressed at the craftsmanship in painting the bricks to appear natural. I am very detail oriented and the finished product surpassed my expectations. They were able to renovate these old bricks that are no longer in production. If you are in search for adobe repair or sealant of adobe look no further than Adobe King. Five stars for the finished results, which was what was most important to me, however if I were to factor in their communication skills, they'd be closer to 3.5-4 stars. Getting a hold of them was extremely difficult and we had to repeatedly call them and follow up, but ultimately they came through and did a quality job. read more

The Adobe King and his team worked wonders on our historic burnt red brick and mud adobe home. They corrected shotty and unsightly work completed by an inexperienced third-party mason our Contractor selected. They also completed color corrections on our interior Adobe that had been damaged by water, roofing tar and fire. We would describe them as artisans and highly recommend them to assist you with color corrections, sealing red brick and other maintenance items. They are busy but are worth the wait. read more

When he came out he immediately got to work came down off the roof and told me my repair would be seconds away very very simple then showed me pictures of my roof in need of recoating. John Schimon, who owns Adobe King, came by my house to look at a possible repair of some deteriorating adobe in my courtyard. He took one look at the blocks and said, "This cement-stabilized block isn't being made any longer. I can't repair it, and it will just continue to deteriorate." But then he took another 15 minutes to explain what was going on with the blocks, why they were the wrong type of blocks for this application in the first place, and why any attempted repairs would not be long-lasting, so they would not be worth the trouble and cost. It would be a case of "good money after bad," as they say! Then he made recommendations for me to follow up for rebuilding the walls with new materials, and which materials he would recommend, and gave me the name of a contractor to do the job. This is what I call a professional: someone who puts the customer's interests first, and doesn't try to convince you he can take care of something when it can't be done properly. The presale house inspection revealed water damage/deterioration to some of the lower adobe bricks, needing attention. John came over and gave the home a pretty thorough going over, including the roof, with me in tow. He has vast experience in adobe repair and restoration and concluded overall the house was in pretty good shape. Over time, the adobe had been well cared for. John gave me some strong directions on how to repair the damaged adobe bricks on my own with a stop at Home Depot. Then, because he didn't "fix " anything, kindly refused our offer of payment. We have a 4 year old Pepper Viner house whose stucco was done by Copperstate Plastering. There were large cracks and missing stucco on the parapets. Pepper Viner and Copperstate said it was maintenance issue. John at Adobe and the other three companies we got quotes from all said this shouldn't happen in 4 years. John gave us the best quote and his work is guaranteed for 10 years where everyone else was one year. I recently purchased a 60 year old slump block house in the poet's corner area of town. The house had been pretty severely neglected. The block was in pretty bad shape in many places, especially where the previous owners had built up plant box with dirt against the blocks. During my initial remodel I also removed 3 exterior doors and fill in with masonry brick which was similar but did not match exactly. I had John come out for a quote. He was thorough and detailed giving me a full quote for the cost to repair the disintegrated blocks, patch holes, blend in the new masonry and seal the slump block to resist moisture. With all the remodeling work happening I did not get around to calling John back for several months. He still honored the existing bid. Over the course of two weeks, he and his crew went over the house with a fine tooth comb. Their attention to detail was noticed and appreciated. When completed, I won't say the house looked like new, but you could see a noticeable difference, i.e. cracks were gone, holes were filled, places where the block had disintegrated more than 50% looked like new, the filled in doorways where washed and matched with the surrounding block. I was pretty amazed at the level of work accomplished. I found John to be honest, fair and he followed through on what he promised. I would highly recommend the Adobe King. read more

i called john from adobe king because i was worried about the strructural integrity of an old adobe home i purchased in south tucson. john called me back after i left a message and he was kind enough to listen to me for over half an hour on the phone. i told john that i was so worried about my house...that i was having bad dreams about the walls crumbling away. we agreed on a fee and john made an appointment to inspect my home. when john arrived at my house, we walked through all the problem areas of the home and he patiently listened to everything i had to say. i know nothing about adobe or stucco repair and he could have easily told me i needed work done on my house and i would have gladly contracted his work. but john told me that my house was in good repair and that i didn't need his services. he gave me many extremely helpful tips and professional advice that will save me time and money. when i went to pay john for his consultation, he waived away my wallet saying "there will be no charge today." when i asked why he said "you deserve a good night's sleep." this is the caliber of professionalism, deep knowledge, compassion and honesty that you are dealing with when you deal with adobe king. sadly, john's brand of old fashioned integrity, competence and customer service are in short supply of late. he's like a man from another century and pehaps this is fitting since he's passion and expertise are in the ancient art of adobe construction. read more
