I went to the adobe on west Fulton twice. I had to explain my order 4 times after the drive through and they still got my order wrong. I was charged $1.20 for 2 hot sauce and was ripped off twice of a total of $7.00. I tried to call but the phone is always busy. When I approached the window to tell them about the two orders that was wrong, they replied "we're moving to bridge street and they have no recolation of my orders. The burrito I did receive was served on a ripped burrito shell with slop on it that made a big mess in my bag. I will never eat there ever again. read more

Not sure how much worse it can get here! This used to be a gem on the West Side, and now it's just awful. I waited in line for over twenty minutes and even after repeating the order three times, it was still wrong. Had to go into the restaurant and wait another ten minutes, only to be told that there was "nothing we can do," and how sorry they were that the order was wrong. They did say that they appreciated my feedback, though. Total joke. Food tasted terrible. Bland meat in very soggy tacos. It was good, but halfway through I bit what I thought was a rock. It was solid black and hard as a stone, but odd shaped like a small chip of black marble. Nearly broke a molar. Ate there 8/31 ordered 1 dry Meat & Cheese Burrito, 1 dry All Meat burrito, side of beans and side of chips and 8 hot sauce, 2 root beers $32. + What we got was a dry burrito with cold meat maybe a 1/2 cup and 1 cup of cheese (awful), dry burrito cold meat maybe about a 1/2 cup if that rolled in a tortilla (about the size of a Tornado). Fat laden beans. We did not being food back because we went through drive through after driving to Grand Rapids and headed home. Needless to say, we threw the food away, lesson learned. Great place to go out and eat / grab a quick meal. When I go here I always get the Taco Dinner and I would argue it's the best item on the menu. I will admit that on very few occasions my order has been slightly messed up; wrong drink, beef instead of chicken, etc. but nobody's perfect little stuff like that is not gonna stop me from giving this place a 5 star review. Also another thing is that if there are a couple cars in front of you in the drive through it might be a little bit of a wait which I don't mind at all because I know that food is being made fresh read more

Honestly I'm really disappointed. We just finished ordering 3 burritos, 2 full and a Super, and I've had bigger bean burritos on the dollar menu at Taco Bell. It didn't taste bad, they were just a bit bigger than a small cannot corn and mostly lettuce. For the price and service there are way better places in town for TexMex. This is the third issue I've had there in the last 3 months. The first time they offered to remake the meal, we ordered chicken and got beef. I never had it remade. The second they made it sound like it was my fault they charged me for a meal and didn't put it in my bag. I was still in the drive through by the way. They have a couple good plate meals but to get anything nice you need to spend at least $15... but for $15, I'd rather go to a nicer sit down place. read more

Not the best. Not authentic. Go if you can't go anywhere else because you're hungry and everywhere else is closed. Many years ago it was good but the quality has really gone down hill. Burrito is basically just a wrap of cheese and small portion or low quality meat now. Little to no vegetables in that burrito (when you pay for it). Can't believe all the harsh reviews for this place. I drive through GR often and usually try to make a stop here for food. Is it "authentic"? No. Should that make it one star? Only if you're a douche. This is the best drive-through taco you're going to find. The burritos and the chips & salsa are also really good. Chicken tacos with the green salsa is my go-to here, but have had everything else by now and none of it is bad. read more

Went through drive through and and ordered meals for 4 adults and two kids. When I got home missing 2 enchiladas and four tacos, meals for the kids and one adult. We I called was put on hold for more than 10 minutes. Then I was told they don't deliver and don't do refunds. They also told me we had the tacos because they remembered making them but agreed we we were missing the two enchiladas. They may have given the tacos to the next person in line but we definitely did not have them. They stated four times we had them. After describing the packaging for everything we had and offering to send them a picture they finally agreed they would replace the tacos too. We could pick them up at our convince, a 1/2 hour round trip. This is terrible service!!!!!!! read more

For two beef tacos it is only $4 and some change. They are tasty and good for a quick pick me up. There are also multiple other menu items but I'm a sucker for tacos. Nice and clean environment and as well as quick service. Will come again for a quick lunch read more

After sitting at the drive-thru for 30 minutes this evening, I left. A sit down restaurant can't even get away with 30 mi. ticket-times. As a former Adobé employee, I can say that there's simply no reason for it to take even a fraction of this time to prepare an order. I understand that restaurants are short-staffed but I could see several people working and staffing looked close to adequate. read more

I feel like most people who go to Adobe know what they're going to get. The salsa is really good! It's spicier than I expect it to be (not super spicy). This new remodel is STILL amatuer hour. You think with the cash they put into the remodel on W. Fulton they might have sprung for some employee training and food presentation. I went through the Drive thru recently to order a wet burrito and while I was ordering through the speaker I was greeted very unwelcoming by the person operating the drive through window. Proceeding with my experience I was handed the wet burrito I ordered with the bag slightly torn open by the to-go box with ranchero sauce spilling out. As I grabbed the box to hand to my girlfriend the bag split right open & ranchero sauce spilled out on both of her hands and legs which has now left her with burns. I Hope everyone acknowledges this review & decides not to be served through their drive through as they are careless enough to hand out a damaged box & bag with the ingredients seemingly thrown together. Not to mention they screwed up our order and gave us beef instead of chicken!!!!! Do not eat here! read more

Been going to the Adobe since ole taco closed. While not great or even close to real Mexican, they were consistent and a pretty good value. Last sat night we stopped for burritos to go. Saw the owners son in the kitchen and thought at least the food should be right. Wrong. All 3 burritos were far more lettuce than meat, in fact 2 of the 3 we ate we got more than half through eating them before we even hit any meat. Going to give them another shot for old time sake but will eat in so I can return any more lettuce burritos they might serve us read more

I have, or should now say "have been," as I likely will NOT RETURN, to this Adobe for over 20 years. Throughout the years, many changes occurred and I gave them the benefit of doubt, with this being said, & Chance upon Chance within the past 4 years... -Going Back To When Things Were Spectacular- -Sooo, Wayyy back when, they used to have an actual dine in restaurant directly across the steeet from this take out facility. They had a full service bar and even, on an occasional weekend, would have live bands/entertainment, and what not, along with opening a second "bar" for these rare occasions, on the Far East side of the building. They had a neat small, but just big enough bar, and then ample comfy seating in the bar itself, along with a large dining area that accommodated larger groups & families to dine in. In the larger dining area, they kept a large black kettle, always HOT & Yummy, on the stove of their homemade bean dip, that was complimentary, along with a basket of homemade warm tortilla chips and homemade salsa.. And that, in itself, was absolutely delicious! It was a great place to eat! There were cozy&comfortable seating with great service and in a relaxing environment serving excellent food back then with phenomenal prices! Throughout the years, they must've chosen "greed" as their choice, just as sooo many have and do in the downtown GR area because of peoples greed and money hungry way of life... So, unfortunately, they sold this property and just ran the drive thru. Obviously, MANY frowned upon this and the all reasoning why, as the price for commercial land was steadily increasing... So it was crystal clear that money came first to these owners, rather than to continue serving the community it is extremely sad to me that rarely do people stand for what they believe in any more, and just let money be the key premise to their everything! I wholeheartedly believe that money is truly the "ROOT TO ALL EVIL!!!" Anyways, so they "spruced" up this Adobe takeout facility that existed all along, a little bit hoping to pull the customers there.. Many, including myself, were in disbelief, disgust, and boycotted the place, more or less. Next thing you know, an "Adobe-In & Out" take out restaurant (some with small seating areas inside), opened up in several outlying suburban areas, which were all outside of the original (and only..) downtown location.. The ones still residing to date, I believe, are the Leonard and Fuller location (NE GR) and the Chicago Drive/Canal Street location in Grandville-(SW of GR). The other "hopefuls" didn't make it.. Nonetheless, many of us die hard hopefuls would frequent the Fulton Street location in hopes that it somewhat resembled what the original restaurant, across the street once did. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it never did, but it was about as close as you could get to it. And NOW... It is TERRIBLE! At first, Just like many other stated, I thought it was just a fluke. But, then, time after time after time AFTER TIME, again and again the food was horrific and lacking in every area possible! it was either burned ground beef, and mostly mainly all tortilla, barely any cheese nor meet and just blander then bland! It was seriously lacking in every way, and just as many others have also stated.. there was never any compensation, nor replacing items. As a matter of fact, you could not even reach anyone 99.9% of the time. There were at least 3 incidents where I sent in a detailed account of what happened, along with pics, spending a lot of time & no response whatsoever...even after spending almost $50 at the drive-thru more than one time w/ major problems. The year was 1991. America was flying high off its victory in the Persian Gulf War, across the nation a dog named "Beethoven" was stealing audiences hearts, and you couldn't throw a floppy disk without hitting an anti-apartheid rally. The future was bright. But in the midst of it all, I was a nervous wreck. My wife was 8 months pregnant that chilly November night, and our house was being fumigated due to a large number of doves that had begun to hibernate in our attic. We had no choice but to stay at a cheap hotel on the outskirts of downtown. Trying to grasp some modicum of control over my life, I set my mind on getting a nice dinner for my wife and giving her one less thing to stress about. However, things took an unexpected turn when my wife entered labor while waiting for our food. I believe it was a combination of the spicy meal (I made her switch with me since they accidentally put habaneros on my burrito) and having just walked over two miles to get there (I had recently sold my car to purchase partial ownership of a Blockbuster franchise). The staff leapt into action. I managed to herd by wife outside (I didn't want any of the baby grossness to get on my food) and have her lay on a tarp I found covering a pallet of old Comodore 64s in the vacant lot next door. Meanwhile the staff microwaved a large bowl of warm water, fashioned a bassinet out of a roasting pan, and shook off several "Home Improvement" beach towels to use as swaddling clothes. The staff were completely professional throughout the whole encounter, and even let my wife and I get a polaroid with our newborn while wearing novelty sarapes and sombreros. They even allowed our son keep a Crown-Royal branded maraca, that he slept with every night until his 12th birthday. This was particularly confusing for several reasons as I don't believe this restaurant even sells alcohol, and even if they did wouldn't a Corona or Modelo maraca have made more sense? Either way, the little purple bag it came in was a nice touch. I'm a simple man. I like cold beer, Monday Night Football, and the smell of freshly cut grass. But when I think back on that fateful night in 1991, my heart swells to remember the face of my beautiful newborn son under the glow of Adobé In & Out's neon "OPEN" sign. read more

As a former Arizonan, I had my doubts about the horribly named Adobe (a mud-based building material) while visiting Grand Rapids for a moped rally. But my fellow street swarmers vouched for the joint, and I ordered a beef burrito. Dynamite. My recommendations: Get it wet, and get it mini. Today I picked up my tray & as I turned a woman came out of the door from the kitchen. I stopped & apologized. She didn't. She rudely told me to "go on". I apologized again. One of very few decent restaurants in unGrand rapids. The food is decent and priced fair. Sometimes the meat seems a bit dry. The hot sauce is very, very good. Their chips are normally good. It seems llike they had more "grease" a few years ago and therefore tasted better....maybe they've switched to a lowfat beef? Above average fast food style Mexican. The service is great and they remember you on each visit. Drive thru is a plus since we tend to grab a bunch of food for dinner to share. The chicken tacos as well as burritos have all been tasty. Authentic fast food style is the best way to describe them.
