I got a chicken taco. It was super bland. Absolutely no taste at all. The meat was dry like they had boiled it and Russell shredded it. I absolutely will never be coming back.

Great lunch spot for a quick bite. I haven't been actually inside but it's super clutch that they have a drive thru. It's quick too for the type of food and quality you're getting! Prices are cheap and portions are good. They make a good wet burrito with beef, beans, and rice. Could definitely make it 2 meals. The chips and salsa were good too. Salsa had a little kick which I enjoyed. I would definitely move this into my regular lunch rotation. They also have a taco Tuesday deal that they have posted at their drive thru.

(5 stars? That's adorable. I'd give 47.)…read more I came to Pure Mex expecting tacos. Instead, I had a spiritual awakening. Our server, Ruth, did not simply "wait tables." Ruth orchestrated an experience. I am now convinced she exists outside the normal laws of physics. I'm fairly certain she can hear when a tortilla is overcooked from three zip codes away. Before I even realized I wanted another drink, Ruth had already appeared beside the table like some kind of benevolent taco guardian. I blinked once and the salsa was refilled. I blinked twice and somehow my life had direction again. The food? Incredible. But honestly, I would've eaten drywall if Ruth recommended it. That's the level of trust she inspired. Scientists should study her efficiency. NASA should recruit her. The Olympics need a "Hospitality Decathlon" because she'd retire undefeated. If she ever decides to run for president, I don't care what her platform is. She has my vote. At one point I said, "This is probably the best taco I've ever had," and Ruth smiled with the calm confidence of someone who already knew that would happen six months ago. I genuinely suspect Ruth is running at least four restaurants simultaneously using advanced cloning technology. There is no other explanation. By the end of the meal I wanted to stand up and applaud. Not because dinner was over--but because I had just witnessed greatness. The tacos were phenomenal. The margaritas were fantastic. But Ruth... Ruth is the reason legends are written. Future civilizations will uncover this Yelp review and assume she was a mythical figure, like Hercules, except armed with chips and salsa instead of a club. If you visit Pure Mex and Ruth is your server, cancel the rest of your plans. You're about to experience customer service so elite it should probably require a waiver. 10/10. Would gladly drive across state lines, through a snowstorm, and possibly a minor volcanic eruption just to have Ruth ask me, "Would you like anything else?"

We kicked things off with the shrimp ceviche--and it honestly felt like there was a pound of shrimp in it... okay, maybe not quite that much! It was loaded with fresh shrimp, had incredible flavor, and was beautifully presented. A fantastic way to start the meal. For the entrée, the carne asada was cooked to perfection. The steak was tender, juicy, and full of flavor, topped with plenty of perfectly grilled onions. It came with authentic rice, beans, fresh avocado, guacamole, and warm flour tortillas, making every bite even better. We also tried the carne asada tacos, and they were outstanding. Topped with fresh pico de gallo, cilantro, and a light drizzle of crema, they were simple, authentic, and packed with flavor. The complimentary chips and salsa were fresh, crisp, and exactly what you hope for at a quality Mexican restaurant. The service was friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our visit. They also have a huge bar, and my Tito's & Sprite was served ice cold--the perfect pairing with the meal. To finish, we shared the churros served with warm chocolate dipping sauce and whipped cream. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the perfect sweet ending to a great meal. Pure Mex offers authentic Mexican flavors, generous portions, a fun atmosphere, and excellent hospitality. It's an easy 4.5-star experience, and I would definitely return to explore more of the menu. If you're in the Grand Rapids area, this is a spot worth checking out. Pure Mex Tacos & Tequila 4553 Canal Ave SW Grandville, MI 49418 @TheFoodie99 #restaurant

We ordered or thought we ordered the #9 lunch but got something a bit different but still very tasty. The plate was full of all the standard stuff, beans, rice, salad, main dish. The chicken under the cheese was delicious and moist. The beans and rice were flavorful without being dry. The salsa was unique. It was something of an acquired taste. The margarita flight was delicious! The prickly pear and traditional were our favorites. The blue one was a close second or third. The mango with the spicy rum was our least.

Honestly it was an incredible location for a space and had such a great vibe inside. My best friend is a regular at the restaurant and we're hoping to see them more in smaller capacities like when we saw them at the Fulton St. Market. Overall, the food was really good. I like the concept of fast-casual dining without the need to have a server. I think it allows things to feel more casual and allowed for me to be more willing to eat there (obviously in other circumstances lol). I got the horchata hot cakes with some of the papas with ghost sauce. I thought the pancakes were GREAT and more than worth it for the price. I was surprised how large and fluffy they were. The flavor was great without being too sweet and none of the flavors being too overpowering. My friends got the breakfast sandwiches and chaichata drinks and absolutely loved them. My friend loved her drink so much she got two within the span of us eating. I know it's a hard time for local businesses but I'm hoping there are more ways we can still see them around.

Different from the last time I was here but we were told to find a seat upon entering and that when we were ready, we could order our food at the counter. I looked over their menu and found lots of good breakfast taco options, the breakfast burrito I have heard is great, but what really caught my attention was the biscuits and gravy. I was feeling quite ravenous this morning and got the full order for $11 and a side of bacon. They had a table close to the entrance with extra menus, clean cups, water jugs, hot sauces, silverware and napkins. Seemed like a help-yourself vibe which I grabbed everything we would need for our meal. Our food was brought to us rather quickly and my bf ordered the breakfast bowl with scrambled eggs and sausage. He told me it tasted so good and he loved that he could make his own tacos with his food. He let me try one of the hashbrown rounds and it was perfectly crispy! My biscuits and gravy were phenomenal. The biscuits were so fresh and the gravy had a really nice and comforting flavor to it. You could get chorizo and mushrooms in your gravy but i went with a traditional sausage for my protein. My bacon on the side came in a tiny dish but I ate all four pieces haha. Once we finished, there were some bus bins under the same table with the silverware, we placed all our dirty dishes there and cleaned up after ourselves before leaving. I honestly felt so content leaving there and can't wait to return. I really appreciate the ambiance in there with the beautiful plant life, the lights on the ceiling, and cool decor in general. The staff was also SO NICE! Wins everywhere. I also noticed people coming in for takeout which is good to know in case I don't feel like dining in some morning. Please check this place out sometime if you're in the mood for some really good breakfast that doesn't break your bank account.

Had a decent meal, good drinks, and good service, overall, what I would consider 4-star. We figured, let's go back and try it again. Well, that was a mistake. It was a nice day so we decided to eat outside on the patio. A couple of small ants on the table...well, we're outdoors, kinda hard to fault the restaurant for that, but a little off putting nonetheless (this was pretty minor). It was happy hour and half priced apps. We ordered a beer and a classic margarita. Several minutes later, we ordered our food. Several minutes pass by...no drinks, our server seemed to disappear, maybe on break, who knows. At any rate, several minutes later another server brings our food out...still no drinks yet, she asks us what we're drinking, we tell her, and a couple minutes later, she comes out with the wrong beer...and unfortunately, the right margarita. The server apologizes for the beer and brings back the right one - no big deal. But...the margarita?!? Was just bad. My wife drank less than half. I happened to notice that every one near us that ordered margaritas didn't order a 2nd - they ordered a beer instead. Odd? Yeah, I think so. I think OTB needs to take a look at their margarita recipe or get rid of their bartender...considering we went just a couple weeks ago and the margaritas were decent....Im gonna go out on a limb and suggest that it was the bartender. Seriously, you're a Mexican restaurant, great margaritas should be a no-brainer. I'm averaging this out to a 2-star review, the only saving grace being the previous visit. Honestly, this was a pretty bad experience all around. Pretty sure our server was new, felt bad for him, as he seemed pretty nervous and out of his element, but it was pretty awkward...and there were clearly mixups with table numbers since the person delivering the food to the tables (different.than the servers taking the orders) brought food to the wrongs tables at least 3 different times while we were there. I'd like to say we'll be back to try it again, but in all reality, probably not.

We each had a couple bites, then packed up the leftovers to take home to doctor up ourselves - because again, the components (rice, beans, proteins) WERE quality and cooked quite well, but the final product was nearly inedible. Had to ask for hot sauce or salsa, didn't get any choices, a couple tiny cups of what tasted almost exactly like Frank's Red (Mexican?) were brought to us, which I was charged extra for. Asked for a receipt after I checked out, because the meal was just shy of $70 (not including tip for *generously* mediocre service). I wasn't intending to, nor did I push back - I was just genuinely baffled, and curious. As expected, extra charges, bill was messed up. We don't eat fast food, so I don't say this lightly: a couple bites in, we both agreed we'd sincerely rather be eating Taco Bell. Would've saved $50.
