I chose El Globo based out of previous reviews. I happened to be in Grand Rapids for the first time, so I didn't know anyplace to go. The service was very prompt and friendly. The decor is very Mexican, and nicely done. I ordered enchiladas...as a vegetarian I chose the cheese enchiladas, and elected not to have the rice and beans. I ordered a side of guacamole to get things going. The guacamole and chips were as good as I've had in Michigan. Growing up in San Diego, I am often disappointed by attempts to make Mexican food, they nailed these. I ordered the enchiladas with green sauce, and they were also delicious. read more

The prices on the lunch menu are super great. Overall the prices have not gone up since 2020 so it makes it affordable. The service was great for a group of 12 and food came out quickly. The Burria Tacos with the consome dip is definitely a super star deserving 4 stars. The restaurant was authentic had some good menu options but I found it lack on other basic items such as the refried beans being underseasoned and the shredded chicken being super dry. Service was barely ok, the waitress could not explain some of the menu item well and forgot to bring our tomatillo sauce and not everyone on our table was given silverware. We would likely not go back perhaps only if someone would be craving the Burria taco combo again. read more

The food is so amazing the wet burrito is my favorite. The service is amazing the way the servers always come to your table asking you need help with anything or asking if you need refills. Agua de horchata is the best thing to ever exist always try that. The atmosphere is ever open with a lot of seating and a place for a long time. read more

El Globo is located on Division Ave - we were able to park on the backside in the lot (parking meters). From there, you will find an arrow on the back of the building that guides you into the restaurant - we walked past the kitchen, the cash register and to a table. We were given menus right off-the-bat but upon ordering beverages, we waited about 5 minutes before another employee came over and took our beverage order again stating that the other employee was too busy. It was a bit awkward but after that, the service was just fine. Most of the people in my group ordered tacos - there is a platter that you can get 3 tacos (4 options to choose from) and it comes with rice and beans as well as lime wedges, grilled onions, jalapeño and sliced radish. I really enjoyed the chorizo and pastor tacos. I also got a chicken taco - but it was dry and stringy; that is the only one I'd recommend skipping. The chips and salsa in the beginning were tasty and the salsa had a nice tomato flavor. Our checkout experience took awhile as we didn't realize we needed to walk to the register and pay without getting bills. The value was good - the taco platter was $8.50 so it's much better priced than your upscale taco joints (Donkey, Luna, etc). Beware - the neighborhood is a bit sketchy - we had a woman that was clearly under the influence of something almost walk/fall into our moving car - so keep your eyes open and be safe but definitely worth the risk for good eats! read more

I've heard about this legendary place with cheap tacos on Wednesdays so we finally decided to check out El Globo for lunch. Tacos are now $1.50 each for traditional, Mexican-style tacos with cilantro and onion ($2.50 for lengua and tripe), and $2 each for "supreme" tacos with sour cream, lettuce, and tomato. My boyfriend and I each ordered three traditional tacos--I got al pastor, asada, and pollo, and he chose lengua, carnitas, and chorizo. They give you a small basket of free chips, salsa, and hot sauce to start. The salsa was so delicious, with really rich tomato flavor and lots of cilantro. The hot sauces were just okay for me. I preferred the orange one over the verde sauce, which was a little bitter. Neither were really spicy. Our food came out quickly and everything was hot and fresh. The corn tortillas were some of the best I've ever had! Not at all dried out, and light and fluffy. We shared bites of all the tacos and the lengua was definitely my favorite. It's a super rich, fatty cut of meat that was perfectly tender. I usually base my judgment on taco places by their asada taco and El Globo's was just okay. It was a little lacking in flavor and not very tender. However, the price can't be beaten, the service was friendly and helpful, and I would absolutely go back for more tacos or some of their other dishes that I saw coming out of the kitchen. There is a ton of metered lot parking behind the building and some street parking as well. We waited around a bit until we figured out you go up to the register to pay. They also have a surcharge for credit card orders under $5 so keep that in mind. We spent about $13 before tip for two people for lunch--pretty awesome! As we were visiting Grand Rapids, we found El Globo on Yelp. It looks like a small restaurant on the outside but it is a very deep restaurant. The food I would rate as 5 star. We ordered the guacamole and it was fresh and punchy. For dinner we had the Molcajete Tapatio. It is a hot stone bowl with chicken, shrimp, beef, and Chorizo. With the meat, there was Mexican Cheese, a large Poblano pepper, cacti leaves, and onions in the hot bowl. The flavors were fabulous. The bowl came with flour tortillas, rice and beans. Oswaldo the chef said that everything is made there. I did not try the desserts since the had sold out of tres leches cake. The ambiance was ok and closer to a place like Chipotle. For ambiance I give it a 4. Overall, I look forward to eating there again. read more

This is my second time here and I truly enjoyed my food. The first time I came I ordered carne asada tacos, a birria taco, a chicharron taco, and menudo. The menudo was a little different than what I'm used to, but it was still good. It also doesn't have any hominy in it, which I like. It also comes with tortillas. But, I'm used to eating it with a toasted bolillo roll. They don't have bolillos but was able to accommodate me with another type of bread, which tasted as good as a bolillo. I went today and ordered the chicken enchiladas verde and had a fried egg added on top. It was so delicious. The rice and refried beans are good. I wish I had more of the beans, though. I normally don't get rice and order double beans. This time I wanted to try both. Unfortunately, I didn't think about posting a review until after I ate all of food. read more

As someone that had never been to an authentic Mexican resturaunt, I enjoyed the food very much. The takeout was fast and easy and everything came hot even after I was 15 mins late to pickup the food. They had all the fixings done right and had beets, peppers, onions added to my plate which was not advertised but It was great. The consume was hot and they had two sauces along with the meal which were for spiceiness but it was not overwhelming. Definently recommend to everyone and will be coming here again. After seeing the birria tacos all over social media, I was pleased to find a location in GR serving this trendy taco/quesadilla "quesabirria". I had never had one before, so I didn't know what to expect other than it's made out of goat meat and came with a dipping broth. For 13.50 it included three quesabirria tacos, rice, beans, and a side of hot peppers, lime, cilantro and onion. I was very impressed and thought it was delicious. We also ordered two taco supremes (cheese/sour cream version) one steak, one chorizo. We definitely favored the chorizo, and thought the steak was the least tender of the meats. We also ordered the menudo soup which, well, tasted better before I learned what was in it! LOL. It's not for a weak stomach due to the tripe and of course it's very spicy. a common traditional Mexican soup, the texture of tripe was new to me and I just couldn't get used to it. However, the broth was flavorful and I thought it was a good sized portion, and I'm glad i tried something new! Worth noting - some prices differ online than their in person menu, which is a pet peeve of mine. It's also not in the best part of Grand rapids... next time I'll go while it's still light outside.
