BFF is Puerto Rican and anytime visiting a new state we always seek out his native cuisine. This place is tucked away in a strip mall so if you blink an eye you'll miss it. Essentially a hole in the wall, you order at the counter as there are no servers in the dining room. Dining area is a good size with most tables seating four. I wanted to order the mofongo de bistec; however, they were out so I settled for the mofongo de carne Molino. BFF ordered the carne guisada con arroz y habichuelas. My entree was delicious but the mofongo didn't appear to be made the way I've had it in the past but it was still very tasty and delicious. I tasted the carne guisada and it was a little dry but still flavorful. If you're in a hurry, order ahead of time as this isn't fast food and you will be waiting a while. No paper menus nor QR code menus are available, so either look online or you have to order from their digital menu upon ordering. Overall, this place is worth coming to with just a few shortcomings but I'd eat here often if I lived in the area. read more

I've yet to not like a dish at Adobo. Any time I crave them or happen to be in Irving (which is on a Monday or Tuesday) they're closed, but luckily I had to drop my fiancé off at the DFW airport Friday night & they were open so I stopped by. Their chuleta frita is well seasoned, as are their beans (habichuelas). I really wanted to ask for a double serving of their beans but I didn't want to be greedy lol. My only complaint is the pork chop was small. There's the option to order their chuleta can-can but based on the picture that one looked like too much meat lol so a middle ground if possible w/the regular chop option would be nice. If you're looking for non-pork recommendations their churrasco is really good (& has quite a bit of meat portion wise). I also love their carne guisada, very filling and flavorful. The desserts are also nice. I came a few months back and tried their guava and cheese pastry, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I didn't grow up eating or drinking anything with guava so I think it's more so an acquired taste. This trip I chose to try their quesito & that one was a 10/10, not too sweet with the perfect filling to dough ratio. I never dine in, but if you do you'll be surrounded by pictures of other well known faces that have visited & a vibrant, upbeat selection of music. read more

Visiting from Chicago and although I've have not had an alcapurria in this formation since being in Puerto Rico...it was delicious. Tostones were delicious. Steak churrasco con white rice and beans! I'd describe this place as simple but delicious. Really a solid 3.5 stars if I could choose that. The place is very homey and the portions are fairly large. My plate had beef, plantain, rice and it was good though I felt like it missed a wow factor for the flavor but it was still hearty and good. The plantain is certainly interesting to have in the meal. I will say that I think I missed out by not getting the mofongo dish which is more of a specialty Puerto Rican dish. I enjoyed the food enough that I will come back and try it out. This place is economical for anyone so a good option for going to lunch. One odd thing was that our fine in dishes came in to go boxes. It was fine though because we ended up having enough left over to go. The staff was friendly and the place was very chill. Atmosphere is nice and homey. Service was ok, took a couple minutes for someone to take our order and then another 30 minutes to get our food. Chicharrón de pollo was amazing and the beans & rice was even better. The carne pastelillo was good but the queso one not so much. For the same price the amount of filling in each was not equal. Not the cleanest or most updated interior for dining, but the food was excellent - my husband is Puerto Rican and from New York, and he said this reminded him of being in Puerto Rico. Edwin did a phenomenal job for us recently. We needed an event catered and he delivered a delicious Porto Rican meal for us to enjoy. The Pernil was season much the same way my mother used to make it and the Arroz con Pollo was wonderful. I have eaten in the restaurant as well and had the Arroz con Guisado. Went here on a recommendation from my boricua brother. It's a very small establishment that has quite a few menu options. Once You place your order at the counter and despite it being cooked fresh food came pretty quickly, 5-10 minutes. They also have different types of pan. Reason for the 3 stars is due to the place not being the cleanest as well as having a floor fan hanging from the ceiling. I would go back for the food though. read more

I've been searching high and low for some Chuleta Kan Kan since I had it for the first time several years ago. Finally I found a place that had it, but they ran out when I called to check. That's when Adoboe came to the rescue! I almost dismissed this little hole in the wall restaurant because of the reviews, but luckily I was desperate for some Chuleta and took the risk. The pork was incredible. So crispy and flavorful. The rice was perfect and the beans were amazing. Only thing that I wasn't thrilled with was their side salad but I'll let it slide. I had ordered food for delivery from Grubhub, and Grubhub dropped the ball. So, I got in an Uber and head on over. It is a small car style restaurant, but the smells emanating from the kitchen told me I was in for a treat. I ordered the fried pork chop with white rice and creole stewed kidney beans, plantains and amarillos, (ripened bananas that are pan fried). I received that order in ten minutes... I devoured that meal like I was eating my grandma's cooking... DAMMIT I just couldn't stop thinking how absolutely, mouthwateringly, delicious every single bite was. Twice I ordered the Chuleta Can Can with rice and beans. First let me tell you that just the simple fact that they even had Chuleta Can Can was a HUGE plus!! Especially in Dallas!! Might just be my taste buds. End of the day, it IS pepper steak lol. Lastly I ordered some Churrasco with...guess what...rice and beans but this time with tostones. 5 stars! Plates normally come with a salad but I was on a diet and decided to swap the salad for tostones and/or amarillos for no extra cost. If you like beans with rice, as opposed to rice and beans, might wanna ask for extra beans. They give you enough but if you like your rice drenched in beans, extra would suit you fine. Considering the location and the variety of the menu, priced in my opinion was on point. Not too cheap but not to expensive. I had no issues with the price especially for the quality of the food and more importantly, supporting Nuestro Gente! Staff speaks both English and Spanish and are Puerto Rican. Can't tell you how many places I've been where it's a "Puerto Rican" restaurant but no one speaks Spanish in the front and it's some random person cooking the food. The restaurant has good food but is usually a hit or miss with making sure they pack all the food in the bag. There has been several times where we've ordered and gotten home and sides were missing from the orders. My son and I ordered a kids churrasco (sides: white rice and beans), pernil (side: arroz con gandules), Tostones, Amarillos. We could not have been more satisfied with the flavors of home! It was DELICIOUS! I STRONGLY recommend this spot to anyone and everyone. My son and I plan on becoming regulars lol. All in all, expect a wait and it is definitely worth it. Really wanted to like this cafe, gave it two stars just for the pastalillo that was 5 star. Had alcapurias, mine was a little undercooked but had good flavor. Pastalillo was good and the Papas rellena had good flavor but it was t breaded just flour and fried. Now the Mofongo Can-can really not good over fried no seasoning. Being the Holiday Season, I found myself yearning for traditional Puerto Rican Christmas food. I ordered Pernil, Arroz con Gandules, Amarillos, and Tostones. While I was disappointed that they didn't have Pasteles. I was told during the holidays they have to be ordered in advance, and knowing the same is true for tamales this time of year in Texas. I easily understood. My dinner was exactly as I hoped. The Pernil was flavorful and succulent. The Arroz con Gandules were perfect as were the Amarillo's and Tostones. Each serving was plentiful. So much so that I brought 2/3rds of what I was served home with me to enjoy later. Adobo Puerto Rican Cafe is a modest restaurant with delicious Puerto Rican food. The atmosphere is very casual. Puerto Rican salsa was playing. The decorations consist mainly of Puerto Rican flags and photographs. When I was there there were six other tables dining with a steady stream of customers coming in for take-out orders. The staff was very friendly and I did not have to wait too long for my food. I am not Puerto Rican but I enjoyed my meal very much and felt right at home. While I was there for Christmas food, the rest of the menu looked delicious. I am sure I will return. read more

I really want to like this place but they just shoot themselves in the foot with regards to service and consistency. I have been here multiple times. Once, the pernil con arroz con gandules y platano maduros was on point. I thought the portion wouldn't be enough but it was. It still took around 20-30 minutes for the food to come out. Not sure why. They are pretty slow in general. 2nd time, still took forever and the "ripe" plantains weren't even ripe. I wish they would just tell me they aren't ready (ripe) and I wouldn't order them. I guess anything for the dollar. 3rd time, my boy and I just dipped. We stood in line waiting for ten minutes with an hour left to go and this fool tells us he has no rice. I'm like go, in the back and make it then, it only takes 20 minutes and you have an hour left. Not like they won't store it and reheat that bad boy the next day, anyway. We dipped. I want to like this place due to what they serve and I do enjoy the dishes, although they can be quite pricey. I might pop in here from time to time but more than likely will not; can't deal with the BS and inconsistency. If you have never been give it a try but don't expect 5 star service up in this bad boy.
