If I'm being honest, my request was full on stanning, but I just really wanted Luka to know that I thought their work was beautiful and hoped we could work together. Days leading up to the appointment, Luka was very clear in their communication with me. The appointment itself was great. It was very nice to explore all kinds of topics with Luka, while quiet time was sweetly woven in. We even shared the lunch break together. The short of it is - I'm honored that I got to know Luka and really happy that I have a couple of beautiful pieces from them. I'm already thinking about the next two I'd like to ask them to work on.

The room was super clean and up to date. When I come in an hour later with a friend and they ask me what I want, to my surprise I got denied: A piercer called CJ cuts me off and states "well YOU'RE saying we pierce with gold jewelry, *I* didn't say that, and that'd be more" I tell him "ok, that's what's the host had said and there's no way for me to know. But can it be done, even if it's more?" To which he states he only pierces with silver jewelry, for a reason he refused to provide. My friend and I stared at each other and left after he gave us the creeps. Thank you CJ!

My friend was wanting to get her seconds and thirds and he mentioned how his jewelry was too big to do both at a time. Understandable however his attitude when speaking to us was very rude. We felt as costumers that we were not welcomed in the space. My friend asked then if they could pierced in gold and he said they cannot that they only offer silver. However my friend called earlier that day asking if they were able to on the phone they said they could, however when she asked if they did while inside the store, CJ said "No you said we could I said we could only pierce with silver." which again was very rude he could have said that respectfully and it would have been fine. CJ Martin is a genuinely appalling person I would be upset if I ever had to have another experience with him. Do better.

She's new and doing a great job. She handed me my paperwork (a very straightforward, standard form - allergies, have you eaten, DOB, etc) and immediately told us to help ourselves to free drinks and snacks. This was an immediate green flag, because having a high enough blood sugar is so important when getting a tattoo, but I've never been in or heard of another studio that has these for free. (1st tattoo for myself, but I've accompanied a lot of friends.) The seating area also has plenty of room and lots of books to keep yourself occupied. Tattoo books, magazines, even a coloring book. They have some art and apparel for sale as well. As for the tattoo, I got an apprentice tattoo from Taylor (@taysartz). I followed her and loved her art before she started accepting clients, so I was so excited when she open her books. We chatted on Instagram beforehand, and she is so so sweet and receptive to my beginner questions. I think her tattoos are soo good, and it's crazy to me that she's just a beginner. (I was her 13th tattoo!) I got a tattoo from her flash book and am so so happy with how it turned out - just like the design! The conversation flowed naturally and the silence in between was very comfortable. Since I got a tattoo on my hip, she even offered to put up a barrier for more privacy if I preferred. She checked in regularly to see if I wanted a break or a snack and if I had any feedback on the tattoo. I'm honestly ecstatic, the tattoo is so perfect and cute; Taylor really did such a great job In addition to the free snacks and drink, they give you an aftercare goodie bag with soap for after you remove the "second skin," ointment, a reusable ice pack, and a piece of candy. They thoroughly explain the aftercare process as well. I highly recommend this studio and Taylor; we had such a positive and comfortable experience. :)

Two 3 - 3.5 hour sessions did the trick. Caduceus symbol using inks of black, gray and shades of gray were the goal. Kat roared past the goal and blew me away with grace and understanding of my intent. Along the way, Mike & Kat spoke with me, to me, about movies, books, bourbon, music, and explained some of the art and photos in their really, really unique studio. My first session had me discovering a B&W photo of Richmond, Virginia just post-Civil War. Totally destroyed but with a Greek columned building standing. Because Caduceus is a Greek symbol, we talked about the South, the war and loads of other things. Kat and I talked energy, foods, places we've lived and want to see, Short North pubs and bars, dreams and a truck load of other things.... while she calmly placed herself, her work, onto my living canvas. Loved it all. Spiritus is an experience, a great experience. Mike & Kat "got it going on" and should help experienced and/or newbies who wants style and soul built into their passion for a tattoo.
