I just recently moved to Oakland and I have been trying to find my regular hair salon and I think I just did! Ya is very accommodating, professional and reasonably priced. I made an appointment with her a few days in advance and she made sure that everything worked out as scheduling changed - I got Senegalese twists done and they turned out beautiful . I haven't such great, uncomplicated service in a long time and I am just grateful that I stumbled upon this place. I will be returning for some natural hair treatment and for future sew ins (she does it all) The shop is maintained and clean, there is street parking available. Hello All! If you are looking for a place to get your braids, twists, etc. done and done right. This is the place. I am starting my first year of college in DC and wanted to get my hair in Senegalese Twists. 1. They are definitely in style. 2. I've been wearing weaves for two years and am absolutely tired of getting up to do my hair. So I finally decided to go for it. I searched o Yelp for hair braiders in the area, specifically ones with expertise in this style. I cam across Adom Hair Braiding and gave the shop a call. I spoke with Yaa a week in advance and she was able to get me in 4 days before my flight to DC. Perfect timing! Yaa was great with communicated. She called be twice. Once to confirm some days before and again the night before. I came in early and we discussed the size, length, and type of hair I wanted for my twists. I also showed her a picture of exactly how I wanted them. Now, I was very nervous. I hadn't had my hair in anything but a weave in two years and did remember some of the negative reviews on her page. But I am here to say, my experience was nothing but perfect. She turned on the TV and encouraged me to get comfy. She started on my head at about 10:15 am and after the first twist, she trimmed it up and asked if that was how I wanted it. I told her yes, and boy did she get to work. Now I was in no rush so I told her to take a break for calls or food but she always asked first. We both took a lunch break and made great conversation. I know some prefer to just go in and get their hair done for relaxation and she can do that too. I am a talker so I would ask her questions and strike conversation every now and then. After every couple of hours, Yaa went twist by twist trimming the sides making sure they looked great. I really admired that and felt she never rushed through my hair. Now, I have a lot of hair so in terms of time, it did take her longer than expected to twist my hair, but she still did not rush. She was planning on picking up her son but called her husband to do it just so she could take time on my head. In total, it was about 7 hours including a good lunch break, but honestly, it didn't feel long. After all the twists were done, she went one by one snipping and trimming excess hairs again and then dipped them. She also put a nice oil sheen on my hair. I appreciated her thoroughness and communication about what she was doing, what she was putting on my hair and suggestions for how to maintain them. Yaa, you are the best. I guess I scheduled my appointment on the wrong day compared to the other reviews. First off my appt time was10 and she arrived at 10 with breakfast in hand. She ate while braiding my hair. Basic cornrows to the back for swimming class. The way she started the braids were like knots that started lifting by that Friday. I understand tag team braiding for individuals but 2 rows? So braids on the left didn't match the right. $175 they saw me coming in a jam and unable to get to LA. Never again!!!!! read more

So. Yaa used to do my kinky twist back in the 90's and I for the most part was always satisfied. So when I decided to go back to twist and braids, I decided to look her up. The first time upon my return, I scheduled with her and she had one of her assistants do it...came out ok. The next time I went back and instead of her saying that she didn't know how to twist spring twist, she messed up my $40 worth of hair and I had to take it down, go buy more hair and she re-twisted it. This last time I bought 100% ($200) human hair for braiding and this is what I got for $250...needless to say she will never get my business again. She has lost her touch. I would have been better off using one of her assistants. All she had was a bunch of excuses as to how it was late and she prefers to start early. That has absolutely nothing to do with my $450 that went down the drain. Its been 3 weeks and I have to take this mess down. There are better braiders that work from their kitchen...you'd do better finding one of them. Take my word and the pictures as proof. LOVE LOVE LOVE MY HAIR! ... i got my hair done last Friday, i am also a first time customer . 1st i was able to be seen on short notice so she earned stars just for that. i had weave with 1/2 tree braids. she was quick and professional , my hair came out amazing and i'm rough on hair-dos but after a week my braids(and hair) still look fresh. She has always been very accommodating and willing to work me in to her very busy schedule. Just this past weekend I went in for an appt for Senegalese twist, usually I get the medium size, but this time around I requested them a bit bigger ( since that's the thing nowadays) well once I got home, I did not like the size of them! After a poor experience at another salon a week prior, I promptly made an appointment here. Although late at first, Yaa made up time and I was out of her chair in about an hour and a half, which is impressive for such an intricate braid-style. The prices here are reasonable and I enjoyed a relaxed environment and a complimentary bottle of water. She even went to a beauty supply to get extra hair for me so I didn't have to do it half braided. She was pleasant, professional, and gracious when I gave her a tip.
