I am writing this to warn others about the horrendous, damaging experience my girlfriend and I had with Rodger at The Dreadlocks Salon. If I could give zero stars, I would. Management has completely ignored our emails and refund requests, so I am leaving this review to save others from the same nightmare. My girlfriend had severe matting. The day prior to visiting Rodger, another salon spent 8 hours carefully detangling the first half of her head with needlework--leaving no damage, retaining her length, and causing absolutely no bald spots. We only came to Rodger on Sunday because the original salon ran out of time and was closed. The difference in treatment was literally night and day. Here is what you can expect if you book with Rodger: * Tardiness & Abandonment: He showed up 30 minutes late to our 3:00 PM appointment. Shortly after starting, he put my girlfriend under high heat and literally left the building for an hour to attend a local event, wasting our booked time. * Violent Techniques: Instead of carefully picking out the mats, he violently ripped a brush and hot comb through her hair. When his next client arrived, he rushed the process even more, taking a razor blade to the matted areas and brutally brushing them out. * Making the Customer Work: I was actually put to work as an assistant. I had to stand there holding her hair for over an hour while he yanked at the matting full strength. We spoke up about how much hair was being ripped out, but he brushed us off. * Severe Damage: He ripped her hair out directly from the root. The side of her head Rodger worked on is completely thinned out, noticeably shorter, and has two distinct bald spots (which he casually tried to blame on the matting). To top it all off, Rodger charged us more for 4 hours of rushing and damage than the other salon charged for 8 hours of careful, hard work. Save your hair, your money, and your time. Avoid Rodger and this salon at all costs. read more

She washed my hair thoroughly and got all of the dirt out. She knows the texture of your hair and is very knowledgeable. Her work is one of a kind unique style. I've tried 5 different loctresses in the last 2yrs. Today I think I've found my forever. Dawn's hands are magical. We knew each other but I didn't know she did hair; so it was a beautiful surprise to see her. She explained so much to me about locs. I wish someone had shared the same information when I started my 1" locs 2yrs ago. The wash was refreshing & left my scalp feeling alive & fresh. My hair's not tight & pulling on my scalp. She really did a great job. After reading some of the reviews, I had my reservations especially in regard to punctuality. However, Dawn was ready & waiting. I like going to this shop! It's my new shop now!! I walked in and had an appointment with someone else, she wasn't there and they still got me in the chair!! I would highly recommend to look elsewhere this place sucks. so disorganized, unreliable, you make an appt the Loctician gonna be late. the prices fluctuate so you will never pay the same price. 2025 Review Update I've been a customer here for 7 years and I'm not really sure what happened. This is where I started my locs and it's used to be a great experience to visit the dreadlock salon. I have so much respect for Peaches and her family, it's a shame I have to write such a bad review due to my last few experiences. If your appointment is at 1pm and you arrive at 12:45pm you'll probably get done at around 5pm-ish. There's a slight chance you'll be ignored and passed up by other customers who walk in, even if your appointment is after yours. It's common to have a stylist stop during your appointment to start someone else's. I've been forgotten about while under the dryer more times than I can count. If you're reading this and know of any other salons in the east bay area please message me I really need an alternative. read more

I had a very good experience with Syamone. She was on time, extremely professional and knowledgeable. I had a loc repair maintenance done and she made me feel comfortable and gave me great advice about my hair. I have newly installed crochet locs, and this was my second retwist, but it was my first appointment outside the salon that installed them. I could not have been more pleased! I want to highlight that I did not wait for a long time before my appointment nor did I spend all day at the salon! Finding loc care in the Bay, a pleasant stylist who washed, retwisted, and had me out the door in record time - plus, he was kind enough to add me to his existing clients - amazing!! I was delighted with Don's energy; the music was on point, and the staff was kind and solution-oriented. The other clients were also clearly enjoying themselves, which is always a good sign! I came upon this business because I had booked with another stylist and when I arrived, they had no idea that I had an appointment because they didn't use the booking service that is promoted on their website. No accommodations were made in terms of an immediate reschedule even though I had my email confirmation to show as proof. I was only told to come back the next day. So I opted to find another place. I did a google search and came upon "Loc'd By Sav". I called her and she squeezed me in. I felt like family the first time I met my stylist Savanah. Not only did she do my hair, she educated me as well. Education is necessary, especially when deciding to begin a "Loc Journey." Anyhow, thank you Savanah and here's to my journey! Miracle Worker! I'm so grateful to Peaches who worked 2 hours to detangle the worst accidental dreadlock matted knot I've ever had. I made the mistake of not fully brushing my hair out when I took out my box braids, so when I washed my hair in the shower the next thing I knew 1/3 of my hair was in a horrible matted loc that was beyond my own skills from getting out. I called The Dreadlock Salon hoping that their dreadlock takedown/detangling service would save me from having to cut a huge chunk of my hair and she assured me she could handle it. I booked an appointment for the next day and sat patiently in the chair while Peaches worked her magic. My appointment started on time, the conversation was friendly, and she even covered some recommended techniques and products to use the second time around so I don't have this problem again. I was "mis-booked" for an appointment late Friday night (3rd!) but Peaches asked me if I wanted to reschedule, I said ok so we started that night. I got a couple of good years out of the permanent loc extensions that I got here, but I have to express my disappointment and a warning about the "permanent" nature of these extensions. I got my extensions done around this time of the year in 2016. I did a lot of searching for a good pride and went to a consultation. Extensions are by the hour, and I was quoted a much lower price than what the service actually ended up being. I calculated that the price was better than if I'd continued to do braids, weaves, etc. for the coming years. When I got to the salon, even though I scheduled in advance, they didn't have the hair that they needed. That should've been red flag #1, but I really trusted Peaches due to the reviews and my consultation. Let me say that for 2 years, I got TONS of compliments on my hair. Last year, after moving, and upon getting my first rod set, my stylist discovered that most of my extensions were made with SYNTHETIC hair and not human like promised and charged. I was pretty upset, but figured I'd already gotten lots of wear and compliments out of them. That stylist told me that whoever cut my hair (I wanted to reduce length) should crochet the ends. I went back to Dreadlocks Salon for my cut because I figured they started my extensions and should know how to care for cutting length. Everything has gone downhill from there. Every day, I can literally unbraid new extensions. After 3 years!! Peaches promised that everything would loc, as they used human hair. I'm constantly shedding. I started with tons of natural length that is now needing time get cut off because of how they constructed the extensions. Huge bummer. I wouldn't suggest to start with extensions here, although I really like Erica. I will say that I'm pleased with the number of locs and I'm glad I have them. read more

I got my locs started here. I have gone back for touch ups and it always took way longer than it needed to because they either didnt have my appointment on the books and I had to wait for someone or they over book and are just not organized. I would be there from 11am to 9pm at times. They would always charge me half price for the inconvience. I didn't totally mind because the crew is so nice and funny. This last time I was in and out of there in record time, paid full price BUT I was not told I wasnt going to get my hair washed until after I left my house for the appointment, my locs were cut croocked so the left is shorter than the right. When I messaged about the problem they asked me to come in so they can see what is going on. I couldnt take a whole other day off so i sent them pictures.... Crickets. The only reason I'm giving this place one star is because yelp doesn't have an option for zero stars. This is single-handedly, the worst salon I have ever been to! My appointment was at 10 o'clock. I waited there until 12 o'clock and the stylist never showed up. Staff was extremely unprofessional and the salon looked dirty. Not only that, but they are very expensive. I love the receptionist Essence she was so soft spoken and kind hearted. the vibe that I got from shop overall was that they're really just there to overcharge you for basic styles. The manager peaches had an horrible attitude when I explained this to her which made me feel uncomfortable and unappreciated as a customer. I took my son to get his haircut last month and his hairline excuse my French but is "FUCKED UP" thanks Roger. Really unprofessional! My first experience trying to get starter locs I had a consultation with Savannah. Off bat she seemed like she didn't want to service me during our consultation but I still wanted to come in to began my journey. When I came in the NEXT day for my appointment she was just starting someone else hair so I decided to leave because that was my finial straw with her. Months later I found another known loctician in the salon Erika. I had a consultation with Erika and set my appointment with her a few weeks out with her personally (so not through the website). The week of my appointment Erika ghosted me she stop returning my texts or DMs to confirm my appointment. The day of my appointment I decided to call the salon just to see if she was there, and long behold she was. Whoever answered the phone told me to just come in so Erika can service me but at that I definitely didn't want her in my head despite how bad I wanted and needed my hair done. I was so upset because I went weeks thinking I had found a reliable person just to be let down once again.
