Adopted this adorable domestic short haired kitten named Honey from this adoption center. She's bonding so wonderfully with my 1 year old male at home. Adoption process went really well, and Lori was amazing. I've always enjoyed interacting with other cat lovers like myself. I love that this center truly cares on sending their furry loved ones to ideal homes. Thank you for all you do

Are you lonely? Your soul mate may be waiting right here for you! I mean, Brad Pitt lives here and gets to roam the hallways. I came here to drop off some cat food as a donation and decided to visit the kitties. The ladies working at the counter were very nice. I had to sign in and one of them gave me a tour of the cat section. There were about 6 different rooms where the cats live. Most of them roam free but some are in the cage for their own safety. They seem to have plenty of bedding, little boxes, toys, food and sun. The cats were pretty nice, some more friendly than others. There's a binder at the entrance of each room with information about the cats inside. ....| \ _ , , , - - , , _ , .../ , ` . - ' ` ' . _ \ - ; ; ; , _ ..| , a - ) ) _ . ; . We just adopted our first dog from ADOPT and we had a great experience! I was a little worried reading some of the reviews about others being rejected since we had never owned a dog before, besides family dogs when we were both kids, but we had a great experience, the staff was very friendly and incredibly helpful throughout the whole process. Just to give everyone all of the info that was on our application, we own a home with a sizable backyard, we're a married couple without kids, and we will be leaving our dog alone for 8-9 hours some days. We came in on a Saturday and told them that we didn't have a specific dog in mind but did have a size and age in mind and we wanted to see who would be a good fit for us. They took us back to where the dogs cages where and let us observe them. We had two in mind that we wanted to "interview" so each of the dogs was brought back to a get-to-know-you room. We asked for toys to be brought and there were treats in the room. We also asked to take each of the dogs for a walk to see how they behaved. I'm happy to say that we found a good fit! The adopton fee come with a microchip, spay/nuter, needed shots, 3 month of heart-worm meds, and about 2 weeks worth of food to take home We just came back from our first vet appointment and the vet was very impressed with how well the shelter took care of our puppy! I highly recommend going here and if not here please rescue!

WOW! I finally hit 500!…read more I wanted to make this review special--something that's close to my heart (just like my other 100 markers!). For those of you who know me, know that I love my pooch Ryno. He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and yes, is treated like royalty. I have yet to meet a Cavalier that hasn't been sweet, awesome, and overall just a great catch! I have not adopted from this rescue, but know people who have, I've also met a few people affiliated with the rescue at various meet ups and dog shows throughout IL and even WI. :-) You couldn't ask for a bunch of better people! Here's a little about their mission (taken from their website): GCCR's mission is to help ensure the health and security of abused, abandoned, and otherwise endangered Cavalier King Charles Spaniels by rehabilitating and placing Cavaliers from shelters and similar situations, by assisting breeders and owners in finding new homes for their Cavaliers, and by providing to the public educational materials and consultation regarding Cavalier health and care. The growing popularity of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels has prompted increased breeding by unscrupulous breeders and puppy mills. This development suggests that owners' concerns about health as well as the number of Cavaliers in need will only grow. Placement of Cavaliers in new homes without appropriate, knowledgeable veterinary testing may result in unforeseen, serious heartaches for new owners. The GCCR as well as other dedicated Cavalier rescuers and owners are here to help.

We went and we fell in love with one of the two females. We weren't certain we were going to adopt her yet because the rest of the family needed convincing. We already a dog. Our neighbor adopted a male. About a week later my sister and mom went to the shelter in Joliet to adopt her. My sister paid her. We were told she couldn't go home until the next week after she had been spayed which they only do once a week. That same day my neighbor took her puppy home. About two days later one of the puppies that had already gone home was diagnosed with Parvo. All the puppies had to be isolated for eachother. We wanted to know if our puppy had it or not and offered to pay full price for their vet to do the test. They refused. If we took her home then we couldn't blame them. My two little nieces live with us. We couldn't give them a sick puppy or put our other dog as risk for this deadly illness. Then a week later we were told she came down with kennel cough and was going to stay at the owners house. We could get it when she was better. At this point we all just wanted our dog but the lady kept assuring us she was fine. She even sent us pictures of her giving her a bath and running around. My sister's coworker also adopted a puppy from this liter. She went to pick up her male puppy and they had mislabeled them and tried to give her ours. She said no this a female, my friends dog. Our dog was not supposed to be at the shelter, she was supposed to be at the owners house. At first they told her that accidently gave her dog to another family. So she tried to file a police report but turns out her puppy was the one at the owners house The owner of an animal shelter could tell the difference between a boy and girl. The same day our neighbors puppy got very sick because he had a parasite and three different types of worms. During all this my sister and I got in the car to make the 45 minute ride during rush hour to get our dog. We weren't going to wait anymore. We wanted our dog and our vet said she'd get her ASAP to test for Parvo and worms. The lady turned her phone off while dealing with my sisters friend. She called us back when we about ten minutes away and said we could pick up our puppy the next day. We said no we almost there. She said the shelter was closing and no one would be there. First off all someone should watch all those animals at night and second of all not one person could wait ten minutes? When we got there everything was locked up. We got our puppy the next day but they refused to give us information on the vet they used for the spaying. Our vet said the surgery was done very sloppy and our puppy was too young for it. She tested negative for parvo and positive for roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, and another parasite. Our vet happens to be Bansfield at Petsmart and our vet was upset at the way our puppy was treated. She was also too young for a lot of shots they gave her. Our Petsmart no longer lets HART do adoptions there. I'm not saying they are bad people I just think they needed have the resources or expertise to handle that type of situation.

A couple of us met her once at a public event - I nor the other person ever saw her a 2nd time after that. She is never around - enjoys barking orders via electronic means at the volunteers. You have to cancel 24 hrs before coming in, and if you have a last-minute family emergency, there is no guarantee that the people you notify will relay the message. There is a clique-ish environment developing there, too. They gossip and talk about people behind their backs. Sent this email to Michelle**** I called her the day we had…read moreto put our newly adopted pet down and she said regarding not being given information our cat had FIV and told after we signed "Sorry, we were probably busy". ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am emailing this to share my experience in adopting from the humane society. Seven weeks ago, my family came into the humane society looking for a pet . We had our eyes set on Blaze. Online it listed some information about him and I was immediately drawn to him. No health information was listed at all. He was with a volunteer and her child, who were looking to adopt but he was hiding from them. We walked in and he immediately ran to my children to play with them. They spent the next HOUR bonding with Blaze. The other party was interested in him- but I begged the volunteer to share with them why we really wanted Blaze. Last year we had three deaths, a murder , an eviction for my sister as well as three family members diagnosed with life threatening disease. This cat was going to heal our hearts and we were going to give him all the love we had left. Ultimately the volunteer chose to look at another cat. It was not busy that day. It was a Friday at noon. As we signed his papers the volunteer said "oh. Did I tell you? Blaze has FIV" She did not tell us. Nobody did. I realize that is not a death sentence but this should be shared online as well as BEFORE children especially are introduced to the pet. After bonding - what was I supposed to do??? Blaze was given every ounce of love we had for 7 weeks. Unfortunately, suddenly (as I have been told 1000 times with FIV cats), he started vomiting while I was at work and having massive diarrhea. Bouts of ten times in 20 mins. He had an underlying stomach infection that had been there for months according to my Vet...(a well known and respected vet in Naperville) I left work and rushed him to our vet . After several tests, She told me he was really sick and prognosis was not in his favor. Blaze was euthanized that day. He was only 2..... I can't believe it happened. I can't even begin to tell you the extreme amount of additional pain this caused my family. This has me thinking twice about ever adopting a pet for our family again. And I would never return HERE I am really upset by the heartache this caused our family and even moreso by the lack of communication of important details on behalf of the volunteer/ staff that day. I am thankful we had him- bc I question the fact that we weren't told for a reason and he would have died alone in a cage. Wish this story had a better ending- especially for Blaze...
