This is truly an amazing organization, full of dedicated and caring people devoted to animal rescue. I became aware of them when I was browsing dogs on Petfinder. I went to one of their events and met a wonderful dog named Amelia. They do their homework on prospective adopters including meet and greet, home visit, and follow up to make sure there is a match. Sarah and Kim were very knowledgeable on adoption and fostering and do not pressure to adopt a dog. I am now fostering Amelia and it is working out very well so far and will likely adopt her. In my opinion there is not a better organization out there especially for people wanting to adopt rather than getting a dog from a puppy mill.

We have adopted 2 dogs from Fur Angels. Everything was super smooth and easy, and everything went great. I loved the process and the people so much that my partner and I even became fosters. Having worked in rescue for many years, I'm really glad to have been able to adopt and now foster from a rescue that holds high standards. We absolutely love the support we've gotten post adoption and as, more recently, a foster.

I can't believe I hadn't reviewed Adopt previously. My dear sweet Calliecakes is from this shelter,…read moreso I am forever grateful that they rescued her. My parents saw her at the shelter back in 2012 and texted me her photo (because they knew I wanted a cat), and I was like "yes absolutely I want her I will come get her." And the rest is history -- it's been 11 great years with my bestie (and hopefully many more). And then a year later, almost to the day, my parents were like "hey let's go to Adopt" the day after Thanksgiving and they ended up getting a cat (their second) for themselves. I haven't been back to the shelter since 2013 when I went with them when they decided to get their cat, but at that time the shelter was super nice and they had several rooms where cats could roam free. It was a nice, no-stress situation to be able to sit on a sofa or on the floor and have the cats come check you out. So many snuggles. And I follow them on Instagram and they continue to do great work and care deeply for the animals they rescue. Definitely check them out if you are looking for a new best friend! And now enjoy the cat photo spam/cat tax :)

WOW! I finally hit 500!…read more I wanted to make this review special--something that's close to my heart (just like my other 100 markers!). For those of you who know me, know that I love my pooch Ryno. He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and yes, is treated like royalty. I have yet to meet a Cavalier that hasn't been sweet, awesome, and overall just a great catch! I have not adopted from this rescue, but know people who have, I've also met a few people affiliated with the rescue at various meet ups and dog shows throughout IL and even WI. :-) You couldn't ask for a bunch of better people! Here's a little about their mission (taken from their website): GCCR's mission is to help ensure the health and security of abused, abandoned, and otherwise endangered Cavalier King Charles Spaniels by rehabilitating and placing Cavaliers from shelters and similar situations, by assisting breeders and owners in finding new homes for their Cavaliers, and by providing to the public educational materials and consultation regarding Cavalier health and care. The growing popularity of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels has prompted increased breeding by unscrupulous breeders and puppy mills. This development suggests that owners' concerns about health as well as the number of Cavaliers in need will only grow. Placement of Cavaliers in new homes without appropriate, knowledgeable veterinary testing may result in unforeseen, serious heartaches for new owners. The GCCR as well as other dedicated Cavalier rescuers and owners are here to help.

This group of compassionate, tireless individuals is led by Jackie, who is nothing short of a miracle worker in the world of animal rescue. From the moment I first interacted with them, it was clear that this organization is driven by a genuine love for animals and a commitment to providing the best possible care and support. Jackie, in particular, is the heart and soul of Sayv Animal. Her leadership, empathy, and hands-on approach ensure that every animal is treated with the utmost respect and kindness. She goes above and beyond in her efforts to save lives and place animals in loving homes, and it's clear that her work is a true labor of love. It is absolutely pathetic and a cowardly act for someone to create a fake Yelp review to try to tarnish the reputation of such an amazing organization. It's disappointing that anyone would stoop so low as to spread falsehoods about a team that works so hard to do good in the world. But let me assure you, anyone who knows Sayv Animal and the work they do can see right through such a transparent attempt to undermine them. I don't know how it happened, but it did…read more I lost my beloved Gordon almost 5 years ago. When I moved to Chicago in 2018 I immediately put in applications for the English Bulldog rescues. I knew it would be a long process, I didn't expect it to be impossible. One of them denied my application because of their income guidelines that evidently only Jay-Z could qualify for, but ONLY if Beyoncé co-signs the deal. When I was really really ready to have a dog in my life early last year, I applied to foster with another local bully rescue. We had a great phone interview, they claimed to be "impressed" with me, but they don't allow people in high-rises to foster. Some of the dogs don't like elevators. Why we went through that whole process when they could see my address, I don't know. I started researching breeders. Another undertaking that would likely take me years to find a good one and wait for the litter. It wasn't part of my regular routine at all, but I decided to go on pet finder one day and I saw this meatball at a rescue, recently listed. I applied right away. When I didn't get a confirmation e-mail that they received it, I called the next day. I was told that they'd rejected me because this love bug needs a family. Vicki didn't seem insulted when I told her that I know she knows what's best for her animals, but to please reconsider. I didn't expect to hear back. 20 minutes later i had a date to meet the guy the next day. And he's a dreamboat, so I was ready to kidnap him anyway but his two care takers decided we'd be a good fit. I wasn't the first applicant, or the only good one, either, I was told afterwards. Sorry everyone else! His name is Norman. He's about 3 years old. His limited history made it clear that his last "home" wasn't ideal. He was dumped at a dog pound, was found by someone connected to this rescue, and they bailed him out. My intuition tells me that he wasn't anyone's pet. He was likely used for breeding (he was neutered just before I got to take him home.) He couldn't get enough affection, attention, or enough to eat. He loves any soft surfaces and when he got his own bed, he looked like he won the lottery. It's been just over two months and this guy has come so far and has made me so proud of him. He's confident enough to not run over for attention just because I look at him. He leaves food in his bowl! He's learned how to play with his toys, people, and he's recently gotten playful with his friends from the dog run at my building. He was always a sweet boy from the moment we met, but he's learning to be a dog, it seems. He still uses me for a napkin whenever he wants, which is right on track. Dogs are the best. This guy had no reason to like anyone, but he can't help himself. He's a people person. He is a notorious party crasher if we happen to be walking by one in one of the lobby areas. He had no reason to trust me, but he does. And that brings me more joy than I can possibly express. I thank the hard rescue workers for what they do every day. For dogs like mine, and for the ones who don't get the lives they deserve. Thank you. Thank you. to trust me
