I cannot say enough wonderful things about DuPage County Animal Shelter and the amazing staff who work there. From the moment I walked in, I felt so welcomed and cared for. Everyone at the shelter is kind, compassionate, and truly dedicated to making sure both pets and people are happy. A very special thank you to Dee, who was an absolute blessing. She was so patient, helpful, and understanding...answering every question I had with such care. We had a wonderful experience with DCAS. We went to see a dog available for adoption. They arranged for a meet & greet with our dog. A staff member stayed with us the whole time, helping with the dog introduction and answering our questions. I volunteered here for several years, and overall this place was good. Most of the staff was very nice (there was one rather snappy lady who used to be at the front but I believe she is gone; not the best face for your organization!), and the place is clean. They had a renovation in the last year or so, which was good! It's not a big building, so some spaces are pretty cramped, like the adult cat room. The best part about this place is that we got our darling cat here, who is the joy of our life. :) We started by fostering, but it was clear that we were going to keep him, and he is a wonderful, sweet, and mellow addition to the family (though the shelter estimated his age as about 5 [he was a stray], and when we took him to a vet she said that he had to be at least nine...it's okay, older cats need love too!) The animals are well treated by staff and volunteers, and (unfortunately in a way) there are always new ones; check their website under "Available Animals" to see who's there! They get everything, not just dogs and cats but birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc. Overall, if you want a new pet, PLEASE consider adoption rather than breeders. All sorts of amazing animals come through here, and they will love you just as much!! read more

The staff members are very friendly, helpful and truly passionate about their job and finding homes for our four legged friends. I contacted them requesting an older cat that may be overlooked by others and I received an immediate response with a picture of my future feline friend. They followed-up with a call and then set up a meeting. When I went to greet my sweet Shamrock, I was greeted with smiles from four staff members all during the COVID 19 lockdown. I could tell they loved Shamrock and were so thrilled we made a match and she found a home. We were impressed with this place. The people working were nice and the people volunteering were mostly super helpful (one person wasn't friendly but everyone else was very helpful, encouraging, understanding, and informative.) It was fun that people were excited for us to start our search for some new furry family members after the loss of my sweetest cat. I have heard great things from others who have adopted cats from this shelter. We were also impressed with how well the volunteers knew the cats and that the cats seemed very well cared for. It was cleaner than I expected. The prices are the best in the area for adoption fees too. To interact with cats you need to fill out a basic application. You will need proof that cats at home have had their rabies vaccine updated. We didn't have that but got it done. The layout was a little confusing but there are volunteers to direct you. The hours are a little limited. We were on our way back to visit some kittens for a second time but ended up stopping to see the Animal Rescue Foundation kittens at PetSmart for an adoption day and ended up with two sweet kittens from them! If these guys want to keep up the adopt, don't shop movement, they need some serious improvement. I've adopted animals from here, and every single time I'm in there I see staff being extremely rude to people. Every. Single. Time. Shaming owners who are surrendering (let's not forget there ARE reasons why people must surrender), being rude to people who have legitimate questions, I knowledgeable about anything that's going on, and all around VERY "judge." I've worked in vet clinics, I foster, I'm no stranger to the pet adoption world. This place is poorly run and management has NO idea what empathy, customer respect or employee respect means. The last straw was an older couple who was surrendering their little mixed breed. Cute dog. I was able to pet him and hold him outside in the parking lot while the couple cried. They had to surrender him because they were going to live in an assisted living facility since the husbands cancer battle had all but disabled him. They have the dog for 7 years and you could tell how hard it was for them. The man sat with the dog calmly in his lap while waiting inside. The employee couldn't have been more rude. Snapping questions at him, rolling her eyes at his answers, slamming paperwork at his wife and insisting they understood, OVER AND OVER, how much the fee would be. My husband and I finally got sick of listening to the abuse and spoke up. The woman started to argue with us, another woman came by who had a cooler head and apologized for the rudeness. I tried to offer to foster the dog for them, told them they didn't have to leave him here with these people, but they seemed to be set on their decision. We called for several days after to check on him and every time we called they would tell us they didn't have any dog matching that description or name. I went in, couldn't find him. Unbelievable. I'll never step foot inside that place again. Get some manners and some sympathy and off your high horses! read more

We adopted a lovely older kitten. My husband picked her out, we renamed her Lily. She's fitting in well with our other 2 cats. Everyone there was friendly and courteous. We even got a follow up email asking how everything was going. Never experienced that before, we loved sharing pictures and telling about our Lily. Our family is composed of 2 adults, 2- 18 year olds, 1-14 year old. Because our oldest were heading to University the next Fall, our youngest and I went to three locations to adopt our furever friend. To set the stage, our beloved Buddy Cat had just crossed the rainbow bridge. We adopted Buddy from DuPage Animal Control in 2003. He was the best cat! Member of our family and dearly loved. When we were adopting Buddy, we brought our then twin 3 year olds with us. The staff was patient, positive and encouraging when they brought cats one by one into a separate room with us. The cat had to be able to tolerate rambunctious twins. Buddy immediately rolled on his back and our sons petted him--- not so gently. Buddy came home with us that same day. The process was easy. Complete two pages of paperwork. The staff took time with us giving us Buddy's back story and care instructions. There wasn't any hurry. The staff were caring, smiling and took our new family photo! Back to the present--- August 2017-. I reviewed the available cats for adoption on the website. Our then 13 year old son and I entered DuPage County Animal Control. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist. She asked what type of pet we wanted to adopt. A smiling volunteer brought us into the cat room. The room was clean, cages clean and appropriately sized, smelled fresh, had another volunteer feeding and watering the cats. We asked to see the three cats we viewed on the website. We played with each one a bit. Then my son noticed another kitty. Her name was Trish. She was 4 years old. Tiny, 4.5 pounds. Purr louder than a motor boat! She won our hearts. The volunteers and Staff were so excited and thrilled we had found our kitty love. Just as it had been 14 years ago when adopting Buddy, we brought Trish --- since renamed Opal-- home with us. Easy paperwork, attentive and friendly staff. For all the negative reviews, please take note, our experience couldn't have been better both times we've adopted from DuPage County Animal Control. We will continue to adopt from here as it gives animals the chance to live long, happy lives. As a side note, if you give up your pet to a "kill" shelter, they cannot promise to adopt out your pet. I put a hold on her for 24 hours because they needed to get in touch with my landloard to make sure I was able to have a cat in my apartment; I appreciated the thoroughness. I went and picked her up the next day and took her home. The staff was friendly and efficient. They gave me some food, treats, and toys to take home for her. The only thing that I wish had been different was that she had quite a few mats in her fur that I had to brush/cut out when I got her home. I have adopted two kittens from here over the past 5 years, and both experiences were fine. They let me and my children interact and play with the kittens on our own in the play room. Occasionally, a volunteer would peek her head in to check on us, but have us the chance to bond a little with the kittens to see which one would be the best for our family. We had to fill out an application each time, and both times, they allowed us to put the kitten on hold overnight so we could purchase food, litter, and supplies. One thing I really like about this shelter is they allow you to adopt one kitten-other shelters require that you adopt kittens in pairs at twice the cost. Another thing is that the kittens are ready to adopt, having been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and at least started on shots. They provide medical records to bring to your vet to finish any remaining shots, but also allow you to return to the shelter for a free rabies shot. The price of adoption is the lowest in the area. Both my kittens were healthy and had no issues. Both times, someone from the shelter called a few days later to check on any concerns we may have. I felt very well-supported all the way through the adoption. I can't speak to the experience of others, but I was very satisfied with this shelter and would not hesitate to return for future pets. read more

I hate to do this for the animals, because they deserve better, but this place was hell when we went. My family and I went this past Saturday to check out an 8 or 9 year old cat for adoption. We were looking for an older cat and found a lovely one named Oscar there. I know this is a kill shelter so we wanted to take him before they considered him un-adoptable and put him down. Unfortunately, some of the volunteers there are so out of it that it's almost impossible to get to the animals. Note* not all the volunteers. The older and adult volunteers seemed very friendly but unfortunately we were surrounded by the 20 something ones that were, and I know this is being judgemental but really, if you go there, avoid anyone fitting this description: *In their 20's *Female * large to VERY large builds * reminds you of sci fi/anime geeks in high school that talk to themselves. * There's more than a few that fit this description and from this past Saturday's experience, they all were about the same. We went into the small cat room that has about 20 cats with their cages. Are few are able to walk around and some are kept in their crates. The room is tiny and the volunteers pack themselves in there and take up as much space as possible... really, there's no need for 3 volunteers in there. Anyway, we found Oscar right away and he seemed nice enough for an old cat. We picked him up and realized he was talker but was very agitated by all the people in the room and the other cats in his face. He started to growl and tried to bite when we were holding him and we got a little iffy but thought it was the environment. One of the older women volunteers, who was very nice, knowledgeable, and friendly, said that we could take him to a play room so he could have some time out of the crowded cat filled room to calm and let us see how he behaves as we do have another cat at home to think about. We said that would be fantastic and she said we'd need to go to the front desk to ask about a room. Oh! And while we were in there, the big girl volunteers, who had no business being in there, try to take the cats away from everyone to talk to and play with herself. It's not play time for you, Dumb ass. Anyway, the dumb ass takes Oscar away from me and I decide to ask the now packed front desk if we can take him to one of their quieter rooms to see how he is alone. I wait for a while before a younger husky girl asks how she can help me. She makes me fill out a form first with the history of all pets in the past 5 years and hand it back. I wait at the front desk for another 15 minutes before she can tear herself away from one the volunteers dogs that was playing in the office to help. She takes my form and license and says she'll be back. She walks maybe 7 steps away to cube in my full view and tries to play with a dog that could care less about her. After about 10 minutes she gets on the phone and apparently calls the vet of my current cat. 30 minutes later she comes over to me and says that my vet has no record of my cat beyond 2005... bullshit. My vet knows my cat and my family on a first name basis, we know the owner and I know that this idiot was either not listening or asked the wrong question as my cat had to have an extensive and expensive surgery for a genetic condition 1 1/2 yrs ago and we were told, upon the many returns and check ups since then, that because he was an indoor cat, that he was still up to date on all his vaccines and rabies shots. The Animal control idiot said that was not what she heard and that we couldn't adopt today. I said that was fine and we would call my vet about the mix-up prior to filling out adoption papers but that we only wanted to see how our potential cat would react in the calmer separate room... like the older, wiser volunteer suggested. She then told me that we couldn't just come in for play time. As I hold back from punching this bitch in the face she says that though we can't take him out of the cat room, that we can see him in the cat room... no shit! My family has been in there for the past 45 minutes. She then walks me back there and proceeds to be no help and play and talk to other cats. My family and I stand there and watch as a HUGE girl volunteer sits her fat ass on a chair with a cats bed on it while the cat needfully stares up wanting to lay down. The fatty does not move but does start to gossip to the idiot that brought us in the room, along with the other large volunteer that are taking up all the space. We decide to leave that hell hole, unfortunately without poor Oscar. I feel horrible for those poor animals who are clearly not being properly cared for by all members of the staff. I am thankful for the few adult and older volunteers who cared about the well being of the cats and the purpose of finding a loving home. I hope that all those poor animals find good homes and that older volunteers wip the idiots into shape, for the good of the animals. read more

After visiting this place several more times, I've had it with the volunteers there. The cat room isn't that big to begin with, so I don't think 3+ volunteers should be in there at once taking up the only sitting area that potential adopters could use, not to mention playing with the cats and getting in the way of people who are looking for a pet. Also, we saw a cat we were interested in on Petfinder and when we got there was told a rescue picked her up. The volunteer said the front desk would know what rescue and when we asked they said they had no idea. Really? Why do I find that hard to believe? Could it be because everyone has to fill out an application? Why would a rescue be any different? Does that mean I could walk in there and claim I'm from a rescue and take a cat without them tracking where it went? I call shenanigans. I think the woman decided she didn't like the way we looked so she didn't want to tell us where the cat went. I'm not saying everyone at that place is a jerk, but I'm getting tired of running into people in rescues or animal shelters who seem to think nobody is good enough to adopt the cat in question. Get over yourselves. You're not doing the cat any favors by being a douchebag. read more

So I've been looking for a kitty for a few weeks now and hadn't had much luck. Went to a few places and it seemed like most of the kitties weren't really very friendly. Normally I wouldn't mind taking home a kitty that needed an adjustment period but I am also the parent of a lovebird so I had him to consider as well. This past weekend I'm looking once again through Petfinder.com and I come across this cute 2 year old boy named Peepers. I read about his temperament and he sounded perfect! His location...Dupage County Animal Care and Control. 45 minute trip there and back. Sigh...but he was sooo cute! Forward to this afternoon and my husband and I are heading out to Wheaton to see about adopting the little guy. The folks at DCACC couldn't have been any friendlier or more helpful. We came and told them who we were interested in and they showed us to the room where Peepers was being kept. OMG I fell in love instantly. We woke him up from a nap so he was a bit dazed but after about a minute or two he was at his cage door just nudging our hands. Sweet! We head back out to the front desk to fill out the appropriate paperwork, answer some questions...wait while some calls were made and then taken back into the room were Peepers was being kept to get further acquainted. This little guy was so sweet. I picked him up and he was bopping his head against my face and purring like crazy. That's it....it was a done deal...I was taking him home! We go back out to the front desk and fill out some more paperwork and go over some important details meanwhile Peepers is getting his nails trimmed. While we are going over the paperwork and such one of the other ladies in the office walks up and says one of the children in the area had donated a crocheted blanket she had made to be given away with the next kitty that was adopted out. How sweet! Along with the blanket we also received a bag of food, a dish, a little toy and a packet of wet food. After all was said and done we are back at home with the newest addition to our family. Yay! read more

So, I finally bit the bullet and decided to get a cat. I wanted to get a kitten but a) I didn't want to leave it home all day b) I wasn't about to get TWO kittens as recommended and c) everyone always gets a kitten so why not show the old timers some love too? I happened upon a 1-1/2 year old Seal Point Siamese mix on petfinder. After looking at his profile several times I decided I needed to meet him. My little sister went with me to the shelter...my parent's adopted their current dog here so she knew where the place was. I knew he was still available so we just walked into the cat room. As Candice stated in her review the room is rather small. There were also three volunteers in the room playing or tending to the cats when I was there. Sebastian (that's the cat's name) was sitting in a volunteer's lap and she gladly handed him off to me. She was helpful in answering any questions as were the other vounteers. After some time spent together, I decided that I needed to take him home....despite my cat allergy. Oh sweet oxygen...will I freely breathe you in ever again? We're about to find out. I already had the paperwork filled out when I arrived. There were a couple questions I wasn't sure about so the desk clerk helped me out....I wasn't quite sure what they were asking or didn't know how to answer b/c I haven't owned a pet since my teens. Anyhow, she was very helpful and seemed nice enough. A few odds and ends needed to be verified before I could take my little guy home so he was held for me until the following evening. So, everything checked out...I came back to pay the adoption fee which was $100 dollars. Sebastian is declawed in the front, is neutered, has his shots and is microchipped. For a 5 dollar donation you can get a cat carrier - it is used but I thought that would be more comfortable for Seb than the cardboard box carrier they'll give you if you have no carrier. I think a wipe down and a fresh coat of a kyrlon paint on the outside in a fun color will have my carrier lookin good as new - is that weird? Oh no, I've turned into one of those weird cat people, havent I? Shit. Anyhow, I went over the paperwork with the desk clerk and she answered all my questions and concerns. They sent me home with a 5lb bag of cat food, food dish, a can of cat food, couple toys and a little knitted blanket made by a volunteer. I thought that was pretty sweet. FYI my cat is an Asian mix - like me. Isn't that cute? Ok, as i said...this was my first visit to a shelter. i avoid them b/c I am reminded of those sad ass save a pet commericals that the celebrities always do on TV. You know, Sarah Maclachlan playing in the background while sad pictures of dogs and kitties are flashed across the screen. Anyhow, my sister drags me into the dog area. Ack! Such cute pups but knowing what might happen to them makes me sad. Cue music & tears... I can't complain about my experience here (other than my emotional breakdown in the dog room). After we selected our cat they just started handing us stuff for the cat like food, toys, carrier, and a bed. This place was terrible. I called before i went to make sure I have everything in order to adopt a kitty that day. They told me in order to adopt i have to be 18 or older. So I drove 40 minutes out there and when I get there and fill out the paperwork the employee tells me I need my parents with me in order to adopt the cat, even though I am 20 years old. I ask her why and her response are those are the rules. She was extremely inconsiderate as to the fact that she just wasted a lot of my time. Couldn't even be decent enough as to explain why that is a rule. The staff is extremely rude and disrespectful. Do not waste your time here. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would definitely do so! It's shocking to me that places like this are in business. I found a dog & turned it into the police (who turned it into this shelter unfortunately). I told the police and shelter that I would be more than happy to foster the dog until a forever home was found. However, their policy does not allow that. After reading reviews on this place I was sick to my stomach. I called frequently to check on the dog to see if the owner came through. When I realized the owner probably wasn't coming, I considered adopting the dog and found a family who wanted to do so also. We called daily to check on the dog to see its status. The staff was frequently unknowledgeable about the status of the dog (they even didn't know the gender of the dog on numerous occasions) . I heard from staff there that after 7 days, there is 'temperament test' & that was what determined if the dog would be up for adoption or euthanized. When I asked a staff member how the dog seemed, she responded "I'm not sure I've only see it in a cage". The dog had a great home waiting for her after 7 days (they require a 7 day hold in case the owner comes forward). That didn't mean anything to this staff. Instead, this place gave us the run around and the dog was there for a total of 15 days. Turns out the dog was available for adoption on clear the shelter day. My friend who was going to adopt the dog was ready and in line with her paperwork for the dog. Little did we know that it was first come first serve and the dog got adopted to a lady ahead of her. Granted , the dog probably went to a good home and in the end, this place didn't euthanize her so I am happy with that. However, the two-weeks' worth of phone calls and drop-ins to check on the dog didn't mean anything to this business. I am positive most everyone in that office had spoken to one of us (my friend or I) at some point in that timeframe, the supervisor included. The staff is not empathetic in any way. If they treat all customers like we've experienced, it makes me wonder how they treat animals. HORRIBLE place with horrible staff. New career paths would be a wise move for most staff there. Perhaps somewhere where people skills is not required. Reconsider your policies because obviously something isn't working . read more

We have had nothing but great experiences adopting animals from DCAS! Over the past 19 years, we have gotten 4 animals from DCAS. Our first (cat) adoption was in 2000, followed by a dog the next year. Our third adoption was a dog in 2015, and just recently we adopted a cat again. Our animals have all been in great health and have been well socialized. DCAS also follows up after adoptions to make sure everything is going well. I appreciate all that DCAS does to care for homeless animals and place them in loving homes! read more

Well I adopted a male 10 year old cat from this place and I had absolutely no problem from the staff. So maybe go in on a Thursday afternoon in the summer? It makes a difference? =) Long story short, I did wait half an hour because I didn't know that the shelter's kennels opened at noon. So I just played with bunnies and guinea pigs lined up in the hallways. That was a bit distressing since this shelter was packed to the limit. Cages were stacked up on each other. But I don't blame the shelter for their limited space. When I walked into the cat room, there were no volunteers so I wasn't cramped inside. To play with the cat I wanted, I did fill out a form and give my ID. That took less than 10 minutes and the staff who took care of me was very friendly. I got my cat for $10 during the Mama and Papa's Days Special offered by Friends of DCACC and received toys, food, bowls, and a knitted blanket to pad the cardboard carrier with. My review isn't intended to negate other reviewers but this was just my experience with DCACC and I will return for another pet eventually when my living situation is settled instead of commuting between two locations an hour away from each other. I prefer older animals because I like them more chill and relaxed. It makes me sad that they're overlooked, especially black ones. Which is another factor I also adore! read more

I got my beagle from this shelter when she was 5 months old, and i absolutely love her! I will say that there are way too many volunteers that do sit and play with the cats, and when my mom, wife, and me visited it wasn't very pleasant being crammed in the small space. As far as the front desk goes, there is a select few that don't give me a good vive and that don't know whats going on half the time. They do have some really great pets there that need a forever home. Hope the volunteers and some staff don't scare ppl away. read more

The cat room was clean and staffed with very friendly volunteers and staff who gladly told me about the cats and their various personalities and genuinely seemed to be happy to show them off and to help me choose one. I went on a Saturday and the shelter was very busy at times, but the front counter staff was pleasant and efficiently handled paperwork. They quickly and calmly worked with people relinquishing dogs and shared the excitement of those people, including me, thrilled to adopt. The women who handled my paperwork said she remembered the gentleman who brought my cat in, how he had lost his home and how concerned he was for his pet. Thanks to the shelter, his little cat was well cared for and is adjusting to his new home beautifully. I could not be more grateful! read more

I can't say I had the best experience here or the worst either. The process was fairly smooth but I thought some of the staff / volunteers were kind of "meh". I came in to see a pit mix with my mother in law on a friday afternoon. We told the front staff and they pointed us to the direction of the kennels. We walked through by ourselves and the pit rushed the cage with her happy and curious face and a moment of "d'aww" happened. There was no way we were leaving without signing adoption papers at that point. We asked the front desk to see here. Now, normally I'd expect a shelter to maybe check an ID up front, but they made me fill out a very large amount of papers before even getting to meet her. I may have been set on adopting the dog but I'm sure this discourages people from meeting dogs they aren't sure of yet. But it confirmed with staff that I had a lot of experience with dogs and the staff seemed to respect that. We go in their play room and the adorable pit mix acts, well, adorable. I wish I had time alone with her but I had not one but two staff members in there with me and my mother in law. One eventually left but the other kept calling the dog over to her, and like hugging her and what not. Come on, trying to bond here, kid... I put a hold on the dog so my husband could meet her the next day. We came in at opening that morning and asked to see her again. This time we got to go to a larger outdoor pen however with a different volunteer. Remember when all that paper work I did to prove I wasn't just picking up a pit with zero experience? This guy nullified all that. He was an elderly man who apparently helped train pits for adoption. Ok cool. This guy would not stop babying my husband and I. No chew toys. No squeak toys ( even though the DCACC facebook page has a picture of another pit playing with a squeak toy...) No Tug of war. No stuffed toys. Don't do x x x x and x. All of which were generalizations to dogs and the breed none of which was new knowledge. "Pits get distracted by dogs and animals , put yourself in front of their vision for distraction" *he goes in front of the dog* *the dog just goes right around him* So , it was an ok experience. We have the best dog in the world and I wouldn't change that. I still prefer Orphans of The Storm because of the better animal interaction and that it is a no kill shelter. read more

Its been about 10 years since I previously visited this facility. Yes, it does look like a pound from the 1960's. I was met by the smell of urine before I even opened the front door. I walked past the front desk and visited with the critters - no one greeted me or told me where to go. I asked some volunteers if I could see a guinea pig that the shelter had posted as available on its website. "No, you have to fill out an application first." One of them said. "But I just want to see the color of it - the photo online was fuzzy." I said. Finally one of the volunteers opened the cage door and let me at least visually inspect the guinea pig. After viewing the guinea pig, I asked for directions to the cat and dog rooms which the volunteers grudgingly gave to me. The cat room was tiny and filled with cats eager to go home. One dilute tortie named Violet was pawing at her cage door and begging loudly for a chance to get out of her cage and receive some attention. Please someone come and adopt this sweet kitty! Several cats had eye infections and I really wonder why they were still in the adoption room when they were sick. Were they even receiving medical treatment? The dogs all looked sad. One sweet doxie sat in his kennel and trembled. He has since been adopted. Yeah! I didn't see any soft beds or toys in their kennels. I left the shelter very sad and upset. I've volunteered with many shelters and rescues over the years. This place is right outside of a major shopping area and desperately needs an upgrade! If I could I would have adopted several of the animals I visited with at the shelter. The good news is that pets placed in the adoption area remain there unless they are adopted or become ill. read more

I went to dupage county animal care and control about 3 to 4 months ago for my missing cat killer. I went in and after waiting about 45 minutes at the front desk a kind lady came to me and asked if i could use any help i told her my family cat had ran off and hasnt returned on over 3 weeks and we had already posted flyers for him. so she brought me in back and her and I started to fill out a missing report, well i guess there computers where down so we went to another one and no luck again so she wrote everything down on a piece of paper and gave me her word she would put it in when the computers where back up. After, she proceeded to take me into the cat adoption room, but killer was no where too be found. so after he took me in back where they have they quaretien cats who will be evaluated for adoption. i must have looked in at 30 different cats and no luck he wasnt there! so she said well if he comes in we will give you a call. so i left and put my mind at ease that if he went there he would then be returned to his family! well after 3 months of not hearing anything my step mom takes a look on petfinder to possibly adopt another cat(because my younger sister is still verry upset about killer not returning home). She comes accross a cat but couldnt rember the name but she knew it started with a "c" and burst in to tears beacuse it was our cat killer. my father then woke me up a hour later saying "killer was at dupage animal control they adopted him to another family!" furious, i woke up threw on some cloths grabbed his picture and went onto pet finder and he was no longer on the site. i grabbed his picture and got in the car and headed out the door! i walked in pretty pissed off at the fact that they adopted my cat out to another family without even bothring to call me!! i wait at the front desk while 5 other volunteers are sitting behind there desk i guess unable to help my needs! so finally this lady with dark hair comes up she had to be in her 30's or so and ask if she can help me! i hold up killers picture and say " this is my cat killer i put in a missing report for him 3 months ago and i want to know why my step mother saw him on petfinder and under his picture said adopted!!!" so she took his picture and said let me check our data base.. all she did was go on there web site and look at the pictures of the ones in the adoption room and then tried to proceed and tell me my step mom must have been confussed. boiling over i told her no you arent understanding me we have had killer since he was born i had his mother and he was born in my house i wathced him grow up. and on top of it our cat is unuiqe hes beige with a white "v" on his neck! o she had me come back there and showed me these birght orange cats. so i picked up his picture put it up to her screen and said "really, this looks nothing like him at all" so she said well let look in the adoption room so we went back there and looked nope no killer. i asked her to take me in back like the other lady did but for some reaon she kept ignoring my question. and then she goes wait i think i made a call about a cat named killer and i said well i sure as hell didnt recieve a call nore did my step mom.so after i asked her again can u please take me in back so i can look and see if hes back there but she changed the subject again this time to well if we get him in here we will give you a call! so we walked in back to the front and i asked her if my report wa still in the system and she said well it should be.so i asked her to check but the only one in there was from 2 weeks ago when my step mom put another one in. so i told her well this is ridiculous i put one in and obviously she didnt put it in the system!!! pissed off i stormed out before i was going to be late for work! im going back tommrow with my step mom so they can try n tell her to her face that she mistaked the cat that we've had since birth with some other cat!! all we want is killer to come home! and i didnt know that animal shelters could be so horrible as to give pets that have a home away to another home!! all i know is that i will never ever recommend this place to anyone, im very unhappy as the rest of my family is. i feel horrible for all the animals there. read more

Took a group of 13 girls (Indian Princesses ages 5-12) to participate in their animal enrichment program. Andy and her staff were great. They kept the girls engaged and interested. Of course the highlight for the girls was meeting the kitties and doggies. Highly recommend this program. We are already planning a second visit with our boys group the Indian Guides. read more

We adopted our two bunnies here and we couldn't have had a better experience. The whole process of the application and clearing us to adopt was quick and easy and both times we walked in we walked out with a bunny that same day. The bunnies were well cared for and the staff and volunteers were helpful and knowledgeable. They suggested bunnies for us to meet that they thought would be a good match based on what we were looking for and gave us plenty of time to play with them and make a decision. They followed up afterwards both times to ask if we had any questions or problems and seemed genuinely excited to hear news about our new bunnies and see pictures of them. I would absolutely recommend checking out DCACC if you're looking for a new furry family member. read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS FACILITY. I want to put this out there as much as I can so that no other family with pets gets scammed like my family did. My five month old lab went missing on a Monday morning. By Monday afternoon, the police had her, and we did not get her back until Tuesday afternoon. Why? Here's what happened. Our local police department as well as Animal Control had been contacted several times on Monday and Tuesday morning, and I personally filed a missing pet report on Tuesday morning over the phone with a man named Mike. He told me that no pets had been brought in the day before or that day with the description that I had given him. My family was doing everything they could and we were obviously very worried. I went into work Tuesday after filing the report knowing I had done all I could do for the time being. Around 4:00, I was leaving work and I get a phone call from my sister telling me that she had found our puppy at the Animal Control Center. This was definitely exciting, but then I find out that not only were they charging us $125 to take her home (as IF we were ADOPTING her from them) but they had been brought in on MONDAY. So, I had filed a police report Tuesday morning with someone who gave me false information, telling me my dog was not there when she WAS. I was furious. Also, my dog has tags on and we should have been contacted immediately. The police department claimed that they had fallen off and that's why they didn't call. How convenient. Come to find out one of the cops thought our dog was cute and wanted to take her if no one claimed her. When my sister went into animal control to look for our dog herself, they did everything they could to CONVINCE HER IT WAS NOT OUR DOG. The associate even went so far as to tell my sister, "You put in the report that your dog is 25 pounds, and this dog is more like thirty." All the while, our puppy is jumping all over my sister, excited as can be to reunite with her owner. They informed us that the dog was going to be put up for adoption on Friday. So our theory is that they took the tags off of her, pretended she wasn't there, and tried to keep her as hidden as possible just so they could make some money off of her, since she is a young, popular breed and would be adopted right away. They ended up charging us $125 to take her home because it's "illegal to have your dog running around." We had already paid the police department $25 for the same charge and as much as these animal control desk receptionists like to think they're cops, they;re not. I am furious at having to pay two different times for the same charge. These people do not care about your pets. They are money hungry, greedy, and need to be shut down or get new management and ALL new employees. PLEASE DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. If my puppy had not been a cute, young, labrador, she would have been put down within a week. BE CAREFUL. read more

I wish I could give this place five stars. Apart from one staff member I would. I have been twice to adopt a rabbit and have walked away empty handed both times due to a very rude staff member, and it was the same one both times. What a shame that someone would be so rude to people looking to rescue a pet rather than buy one. Thank goodness for the rest of the staff that let me adopt the pets through a private rescue program. Honestly if I knew who this woman reported to I'd let them know how much she is hurting the process. read more
