Beers are really nice, a little on the pricey side. $8 for a 10 oz pour. Service wasn't the best when I went, they blared really loud music the whole time too. Bathrooms were pretty gross. Probably won't be coming back. read more

We were visiting in town for a wedding and wanted to check out a few breweries in the area. Their tap list looked interesting on Untappd with IPAs. The theme of the brewery is very unique and the beers are very on theme. They had two triple IPAs to try, which were both excellent! The bartender was very friendly and accommodating. Was surprised to see this was only 3.7 stars. Our family loves craft beer and stopped here before dinner. Two of us got the Cage Match - an Oreo Reese's blizzard milkshake - holy heck this was delicious. My husband gave it a 5 star on Untapped. I got a mix of the frozen Escape (pina colada) and Temptation (strawberry daiquiri). It tasted just like a Miami vice! My only gripe is how EXPENSIVE these beers were. For those three and a normal IPA, my husband paid $52!! Probably one of the most expensive beers we're ever gotten. However they were delicious. Definitely couldn't drink more than one (calorie content/price/ABV). read more

Adroit is my favorite brewery in the DMV. Being that it's a drive from my place, I only get out here once or twice a year, but it's always a highlight! My first visit in the fall of 2019 introduced me to Illusion of Safety fruited sours. Every one I've tried since has been different and I've enjoyed how creative the brewers have gotten in making fruited smoothie beers. From guava to white peach to blood oranges, the favor combinations are always on point. Adroit also has a great selection of IPAs and stouts. I especially love the Dia De Los Muertos dessert stouts. They have different pour sizes so you can try lots of beers and take some cans or growlers home with you. The bartenders I've interacted with have been helpful and knowledgeable about the extensive beer list. The vibe of the tasting room is sparse. You can bring your dog, if they well behaved and since they don't have food, you're welcome to bring your own. They play metal, so if that offends your delicate sensibilities, then I'd suggest that you try elsewhere. They have outdoor seating, though parking can be a little sparse. read more

So, this Adroit Theory is definitely a brewery. It is in an industrial park in the middle of almost nowhere.  Thank goodness we came here during daylight hours, because at night this place would be trecherously hard to find. The inside is intimate.  There is a bar, some high tables, and an area with couches.  The heavy metal music was a little off putting.  But I guess most of the patrons weren't coming here for the ambiance. The Beer was quite good, especially if you like higher ABVs The Beer: Illusion of Safety Gose 4.5% ABV... this is like a smoothie, absolutely awesome Dia De Los Muertos salted Caramel Oreo Imperial Stout 13.7% ABV... so much like dessert, wholy delicious Strange Days Imperial IPA 8%..this IPA is delicious, great mouth feel, slightly sweet Therapy Session Russian Imperial Stout 12% ABV... add some ice and vanilla ice cream, blend and serve, so very good So the beer is exceptional, but the venue is just meh.  I would come here again, but only for some beer to go. read more

What a good and unique brewery! We got here less than 20 minutes before they were closing but had a chance to get two 5 oz delicious brews that tasted more like milkshakes and smoothies than actual beer. Sweet and delicious beers were just to my liking. I'm glad I was sharing them with my friend because of the very high alcohol content in each of them. One of them was 12.5% and the other was, I believe, 11.7%. This was a very cool brewery and I've been to many. It wasn't a very large place but there were nice comfy couches and a few TVs around and also an area where you could purchase cigars. Since they were closing soon, I didn't get a chance to look around and seek the actual brewery itself. But I do plan to go back in the future because this was a unique brewery and had quite a different selection of beers. I definitely recommend checking this out. I miss the tasting room in the back. Better vibe there. Adroit makes some unique beers and I sometimes love, but often the ABV is too high to have more than 2 beers. Also they have been challenged to keep up production. I think they need to consider moving to a new and larger location. read more

One of my favorite breweries. Their selection is very versatile, and I love that they have variations with the same base. I usually go for their darker beers (stouts, porters, barleywines), but I've even had a IPA from them that I loved. Staff is always nice, knowledgeable, and their seating area is nice. read more

I'm partial to stouts and this brewery makes some outstanding ones. I wish they had them all out tap as they only had one when I was there but the canned maple flavored was amazing. Right now is a great time to visit. I wish they had more shade as during the summer days it's way too hot outside. People are super social and talkative outside so the atmosphere's a plus. read more

Anytime we head out to Purceville, we stop here. Love the heavy stouts. The only reason I give them 4* is the tasting room and lack of staff. Their new tasting room, since they closed the back side room, is just sterile. It's a sad replacement for what was once a funky almost steampunk metal themed experience. I also miss beer being on tap, not just them opening cans and pouring. It's just not the same experience as it used to be. Come for the beer, not the atmosphere. read more

I'm a big fan of Adroit Theory beers. They produce some excellent IPAs. We decided to visit the brewery on a trip to Purceville. The tasting room is nothing to write home about, but the beer is excellent. Just find some parking on the street (not much parking in the lot) and belly up to the bar and start tasting. I've had several beers from Adroit Theory thus far and so far I'm enjoying my beer experience with them. My first beer was the Heretics of IX which was an Imperial IPA that I really liked. Good piney aspect to that beer. The other was Sanctimonious Enmity which also was an Imperial IPA. This one wasn't bad but I liked the previous one a bit better. The third and last, also an Imperial IPA was the Rebel. Now this was a fun beer more in concept than anything else. Adroit did a G.I. Joe themed beer line featuring popular G.I. Joe characters. I believe there were seven entries to this series and I managed so far to snag two beers from the series. This as to be expected is a very popular series and sells out fast for the t shirts representing the beers to the beer themselves. I believe there were beers based on the Baroness, Destro, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander and there were definitely entries for Storm Shadow, Zartan and Serpentor. The Rebel was the Storm Shadow themed beer. All three beers we did enjoy and despite all three being Imperial IPA and Double New England style beers we could tell the recipe differences with each beer which I can't say always rings true over the years as we have experienced many different kinds of breweries. Sometimes two different IPA's that brewery serves just tastes the same with no distinctive differences. Adroit Theory has some fun t shirts too. I have quite a few of them. I managed to even score a few of the G.I. Joe themed t shirts from that beer series I mentioned but others I was just too slow on the uptake to get the whole series of G.I. Joe shirts. Adroit Theory Brewing is heaven for Russian Imperial Stout fans! This place is unlike so many other breweries in the area in good ways. It caters more to people who are serious about beer and local, and less to tourists. They have a diversity of beers but I have been here three times and have gotten no further than variants on their signature Dia De Los Meurtos RIS. Fabulous! They have a wonderful goth theme going and the other beers seem equally bold as the RIS. The only drawback of Adroit is the relative lack of food options. You can get locally made corn chips and salsa or some snack packs of cold cuts. However, since they do allow you to bring in, I would recommend a bag from Monks BBQ to pair with one of their beers! This is the place For scenic views and run of the mill IPAs however this is the spot for some of the best craft beer you might ever taste. Haven't had a stout this god since Trillium in Boston and I think the guy and gals at Adriot give them a series run for their money. I really struggled to rate this place; I don't often try barrel aged beers but most (or all) of their stuff was fermented that way. Adroit Theory is all about experimenting with beer to the point one could almost call it an art. But art (and beer) is subjective, and sometimes you just "don't get it". Still, if you consider yourself a beer aficionado, I totally recommend them. For many of the beers I tried, there wasn't any middle ground. I haven't yet had any 'meh' beers; you love them or hate them. Given the crowds I've seen here, they certainly seem to be doing well. Fortunately, as I love darker beers, the winners outnumbered the losers. They don't do flights, but they do have $3 or $4 sample-sizes. Their theme matches the beer making style; over the top! They went all out with a grungy-heavy metal vibe in their naming conventions and wall posters; they even named their membership club the "Black Heart Society", the highest tier of which is "The Cult". With names like "Death of Cthulhu" and "Tenebris", you get the picture. I'm not trying to downplay the beers; I did like the Cthulhu (and some others), and to an extent I do think 'fun' names are fine. But Adroit Theory strikes me as trying too hard to be experimental; they remind me like an otherwise hot goth chick who wears way too much black eyeliner. I don't want to be part of a cult; can't we just concentrate on the beer? read more

I completely understand why the reviews for this brewery are all over the place and am torn myself on how to rate them. I honestly think being able to get a seat at the tasting bar would yielded for a slightly better time. However, I'm glad I finally made the trip out here though and look forward to coming back when it is warmer and they have the huge garage doors open. It was quite busy when we walked in and most of the tables were occupied with families with children. We managed to snag a barrel and two seats for 6 of us at first, but eventually were able to move over to a table after being there a while. We ordered tastings to split between couples and although I liked most of them, I absolutely LOVED the Legion. Whoever thought of this flavor creation needs a hug and an award stat! Seriously. So freaking good! Nano Brews don't typically blow my socks off, but this brewery hails itself as creating "esoteric beers with an emphasis on barrel aging" and I liked quite a few of them. So barrel aging FTW! Initially, the staff struck me as being quite gruff at first, there were 3 people behind the bar and they took care of us fairly quickly, but they didn't seem all that happy about it. Then once the tasting room cleared out a little they were much much nicer. So it's possible they aren't used to the crowds? Not really sure what that was all about. The place itself feels like you are hanging out in your friend's garage. It's very open but pretty scarcely decorated. There are some interesting features though, like the barrel tables and the artwork behind and above the bar. I love the NIN/MM feel to the artwork btw. Very cool. I also loved the huge logo on the entrance door. That's an entrance you can't miss! Again, I'm excited to come back in the warmer weather. read more

As are so many businesses in the stretch between Leesburg, Virginia and Bluemont, Virginia; Adroit Theory is a hidden gem amongst an otherwise unsuspecting landscape. Upon first arriving, you might think you're pulling into a miniature Tractor Supply but don't let the first glance dissuade you from continuing onward. I honestly want to think that they hope some people will pull into their parking lot and turn around because not everyone should be graced with such great beer. If you're lucky to find a parking spot and wiggle your way around back and then up to the bar, you'll find yourself immediately engrossed in their menu as you weave through a myriad of options. A flurry of adjectives will make you question everything you know about beer. The good thing is that they don't make a bad beer here so wherever your finger lands on the menu as you point and request your bartender, you'll be satisfied with the choice. Now while they do have a wide selection to choose from, Adroit Theory is known for their high-ABV Imperial Stouts and Porters as well their low-ABV sours and Goses so try and at least dabble with those. Once your first beer arrives, find a seat and let the experience overcome you while you sip your beer and listen to the waning heavy-metal music lulling you into an experience that cannot properly be explained in words. If you've then deemed yourself worthy to return on a later date, you'll notice that that first beer you had is no longer on the menu. That's because they pride themselves as a pure and true Micro-Brewery that doesn't replicate its beer month-to-month. The beer you had a few weeks ago is likely never going to be made again. This forces you to have a truly unique experience each and every time you step foot through their door and furthermore intrigues one into coming back. Adroit Theory isn't a lot of things that you might want in a modern brewery. But their unapologetic approach to brewing beer the way they want is something that should be respected in a time when so often we bend in whichever direction the market moves. read more

Adroit theory is one of a very small number of possibly-world-class breweries in the DC area. Their beers--especially their New-England-style IPAs--are some of the best you'll find on the east coast and certainly the as good as anything within an hour driving of DC. Beyond their juicy IPAs, they also do some pretty tasty sours--especially experimental fruit sours. At the actual brewery they even have a slurpee machine with some of their fruit sours, which is crazy, but kind of cool. They also do some pretty experimental stuff. They were pouring a blue raspberry gose when I was there that was literally neon blue and tasted like Hawaiian Punch. Was it a great beer? No. Was it yummy? Yes. So, this place was a lot of fun (love the atmosphere, garage theme and the music), but 3 stars due to the speed of service. Went to Adroit Theory on a whim after visiting Catoctin Distillery. It wasn't easy to find, in the back of a warehouse as so often breweries are nowadays, but we managed! Once inside, we staked out some bar seats since a few people were leaving. It was crowded, but not overwhelmingly so - there were a few tables open. Adroit Theory is a nanobrewery, and I'd say I liked about half of what I sampled (just personal taste...their beer was fresh and well-made). If you like dark beer, this is your place. I also like that they are super-experimental with their brews. Honestly, I'd rate 4 stars if it wasn't for the speed of the service. We probably sat for at least 10 minutes before we were acknowledged, and one couple who sat down after us ended up leaving due to having wait so long! Now, as I mentioned, it WAS a little crowded - but the fact that other reviews mention the same thing makes me knock off a star because that's clearly management not wanting/willing to do anything about it. The day I visited, there were two bartenders and it just wasn't enough - waiting over 10 minutes to just be acknowledged and then waiting a while again to get pints was definitely more than a little annoying. I guess I'm one of the few people this place doesn't appeal to. My friend and I were both not impressed with the vibes. They have heavy metal music playing on blast which is enough to induce anxiety alone. I guess the skull decor mixed with the heavy metal music made me feel like I was stuck inside a horror movie not chilling at a brewery. I had heard this place had great sours. Unfortunately the list yesterday had no sours. It was essentially 90% stouts, a few double or triple IPAs and a lager. I had the lager and it wasn't anything worth finishing. All of the beers are super specific and cater to a certain drinker that likes super heavy beers. I'll definitely not return. The beer is super expensive too. read more

Much better experience today. Bartenders were all different than the ones we'd had previously and they were really great. I tried the Thanksgiving beers: a cranberry saison, stuffing stout and a sweet potato casserole porter. Of the three, I liked the stout best: nice hints of sage. I also tried the following as sips from friend's. Love of the Damned, both the brandy and Pinot version. Both were delicious, the pinto slightly sweeter. The persona non grata 2.0 had a grapefruit flavor, nice citrus. The antithesis Mango Gose was a bit too sour for me, as was the Cranberry Saison. The sweetest I tried that was also delicious was the Two-headed calf Sauternes aged. Nice grape blend. Love the beer here and am glad to have had a better serving experience. read more

I have always thought adroit theory beer was some of the best around northern Virginia, and while I still like the beer, I'm let down by the experience I've had with the taproom. We went last weekend and the credit card processor was down. The taproom staff took down my credit information in order to serve me, but when I returned to close out, they couldn't find my order. So they re-rang up my order and I paid in cash. However, when I looked at my credit card statement afterward, I found they had in fact charged my card as well. And if you've ever been to Adroit, you know it's not exactly a cheap experience. Now, a week later with unreturned voicemails and emails, I'm left with no choice but to call and dispute the transaction with my credit card company. This is a brewery trip that is turning into a pain in the butt. So, if you go, expect good beer but not the best experience and pretty crappy service. read more

My boyfriend brought me here for New Years & this place is fantastic! We tried some beers on the menu and I can honestly say, everything we tried was just right! I love how they had this limited time eggnog flavor and it was the most sweetest thing on there besides the fruity flavored beers which was also my favorite. A small brewery - size of somebody's living room - with HUGE beer menu. At least 40 types of beer on the menu. I came here with bunch of friends. We sat on the couch and enjoyed the afternoon. There were bunch of board/card games inside the coffee table. You can spend hours in this brewery.
