We did a large and complex remodel that involved moving interior walls, demo down to studs, new appliances, new floors, electrical and plumbing. We lived in the front part of our home while the construction was completed, so we had a front row seat to the process and navigated people working while we were home for months. If a remodel was going to go south, this would have been it. It didn't, and the final product is remarkable. There are so many elements I could speak to, but this review would be too long! I'll hit the highlights as they are worth mentioning: Price: Let's be real, cost is a central component to a remodel. Ed Brasseur was up front with us about costs, including the possibility things could cost more than expected. When prices changed, because of the market (labor, cost of lumber, etc.) or because of our choices, he let us know right away. He helped us source local vendors and made practical suggestions for where spending money was worth it and where it wasn't. Communication: I think Ed Brasseur is a straight shooter. He let us know the best ways to reach him (text vs email vs calls) for each type of concern, he was available, and his tone was helpful, kind and direct. It's a balance I haven't found in another contractor. He was also clear about timelines, payment, and kept us posted as things progressed. The Work Itself: Our home looks amazing. It is like a different house! They supported our design choices, checked in with us as they went, and made detailed suggestions that enhanced our ideas. I cannot express it well enough, so I've included some before and after pics below. The People: There are some stellar folks working with Ed, and they deserve direct shout-outs in this review: Eduardo: Eduardo is a solid team leader. He was clear, helpful and hopeful when we had concerns. When something needed to be managed, he said "no problem" and he meant it. Interactions with him felt both authentic and professional, and his work is really good. He delegated well and stepped up to handle things himself when he needed to. That's gold in a foreman. Erick: There is a real pride in the craft evident in Erick. He has a mix of a clear work ethic and a sense of humor. That made a big difference in our day-to-day experience. Working in someone's home while they are there, working from home themselves, is no easy task. He handled it personably and professionally. (PS: Our closet is great, Erick!) Moises: If you want someone to do the work both quickly and well, Moises is your man. He got right to the task, was efficient, detailed, and he's just a nice guy. He protected our furniture and other property when things needed to be masked and covered, and, to be frank, we could tell he gave a shit about us and the project. Thanks, Moises. They always kept me in the loop with what was happening and did what they said they were going to do when they said they would do it. They finished ahead of schedule and on budget. And they're just very sweet people, nice people to have in your home every day for a month. The interior designer they brought into create design sketches and mock-ups gave me a couple really valuable ideas that helped me make the best decision when I felt a little lost about how to do it. We hired his nephew, Denny. 1 month was the completion time we were told. Beginning of August 2023 was the starting time and here is 2024 with an incomplete yard. Completion time is nothing compared to the rest. I really need no words... just look at his work that he's been proud of, each step of the way. I do not know how he has a license. He was not knowledgeable about certain things, was unprofessional, negligent with poor communication skills, horrible workmanship and was ok with obviously horrendous work. Beware of Denny Cohen. He shrugs off concerns, believes his guys over clients so doesn't even check on the concerns & lies about little things such as digging, dirt replacement, leveling, sloping, seams, and likes to raise his voice at women when he is asked about something that is obviously wrong. I was uncomfortable continuing to work with him and Realm Home insisted I do anyways. Even though they knew how the last interaction between us made me feel like crying afterwards due to his aggressive tone and telling me how anything he does-- I won't be satisfied-- over and over and over again. All we have asked for was proper completion. We were willing to accept so many things that were wrong but we couldn't accept these things you see in the pictures. I don't believe anyone else would either. A huge project that he could not handle. I don't want anyone going through this!!!! If he had only addressed our concerns when we first brought them up, instead of brushing us off... ***oh it's supposed to be sloped. What do you mean lumpy. We'll just brush that and it'll be fine. The seams? There will always be seams. That's what dg looks like. Dg will never be solid, the dogs will always leave foot prints. (if dogs can leave footprints, humans can leave bigger ones, so why would anyone want dg?). That's 100% new dirt, my guys said (even with video proof of the opposite) *** ... there was a huge chance that the project would have been completed and worthy of, at the very least, "settling".

Unlike Lars and other companies (who have project managers who drop in maybe once a day for about 15 minutes) he had one of his guys on-site during the entire duration of our project, not only working, but also supervising all the subcontractors, with the authority to fire any slackers. Our project included remodel of the kitchen, master bath, and guest bath; conversion of an office into a powder room; adding a foundation underneath a two-story addition; conversion of a bedroom into a walk-in closet and laundry room; replacing the furnace; adding central A/C; re-building of a chimney; widening and paving a driveway; building a retaining wall along the driveway to hold back the front yard; adding electrical to the garage; replacing historic windows; and that's just the major stuff. Jon takes pride in his projects and the work of his crew, and in a large job like ours that can rack up a tab pretty quickly, he offers options and gives his honest opinions. He stands by his crew's work and takes responsibility if things go awry. We have recommended him to others, and we will use him again.

The Project Manager showed up and stated Jon couldn't make it. When asked, he stated he did review the plans that I was asked to email back when I scheduled. I figured he was the project manager and he was familiar with the plans so lets get it done. After walking the job site and answering all my questions with positive answers and him further stating that "this type of job is definitely in our wheelhouse" I was excited to have a company that could finally get this project across the finish line. I confirmed he had my email address and so I waited for the quote. 1 week, 2 weeks...nothing! So I call Amanda to let her know that it's been 2 weeks and I don't have the quote yet. She tells me, oh he had Covid and that's why you haven't gotten the quote yet. She said she was going to get in touch with the owner Jon. An hour later this is the email she send to me: Hello, Thank You for the opportunity to walk through your project site. At this time we will not be able to provide the type of services you are looking for or need for your project. We thank you for your consideration and wish you the best going forward. I was shocked at their response that they were "unable to provide construction services" as they were in possession of the plans for weeks and I was insulted at the "we have no need for your project" statement! I left a voicemail for the owner asking politely for a return call to explain a little better, honestly still hoping this was some misunderstanding. I also replied to Amanda's email asking for the owner to call me. That was 9 days ago on the 21st of Jan. They have ignored all of my requests to date. I have dodged a bullet not using this company, the last thing you want is to hire a contractor that cannot communicate.

I had my selected him to do my job but once my project was approved by the city, I reached out so him and I could meet and he could give me a formal written estimate to commence work. He told me he would send it over right away. I must have reached out to him about 4-5 times so we could meet and provide an estimate but then he just flaked on me. Never answered my texts or calls. Kind of weird given he was communicating with me in the beginning then as soon as I ask for written proposal to start my project just decides not to communicate anymore. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt but for whatever reason he decided to bail. I work in the facilities trade and manage a 10 million dollar portfolio. Had he followed through on my project I could have given him hundreds of thousand dollars worth of work in capital improvement projects and remodels/renovation since I approve all of the contractors and projects. I guess my ADU project was not worth his time.
