The worst company that I have ever worked with. The owner collects all the money before he completes the tasks. I've had several contractors come in afterwards and tell me this is the sloppiest and most unprofessional work they have ever seen in the process of filing a complaint with the contractor labor board. They used a spray paint gun on my patio and got paint all over my kitchen windows and contaminated my family's garden. Owner makes excuses and lies. Crooked door trim. They left baseboards out in the rain overnight and installed them. They purchased the wrong swinging door and hacked away to make it fit rather than purchasing the correct door. Repairs and Remodels On Demand On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, I had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Charles Gilbert as he performed an initial walk-through of my hardwood flooring restoration project. He explained the pros and cons, taking into consideration that another company had recently repaired my dining room floor using a different product. Given the current condition of my hardwood flooring, which was cloudy, no luster, and unattractive, I considered my options and chose to move forward with this company. Mr. Gilbert decided to contact another gentleman to complete the restoration project as the initial gentleman had a family emergency, and he did not want a prolonged delay. I read the quote, agreed to the cost, and Charles scheduled a date. There were no delays in beginning the project other than questions that I had about the final process. Charles responded to all my questions to my satisfaction. Mr. Gilbert along with Mr. Juan Diego (Pro), assured me they would do everything possible to bring my hardwood flooring back to "life" and give it the final sheen that I desired. The day of the restoration project, Charles sent Mr. Keith Harris and Mr. Bradley Wright early to move four large pieces of furniture from my dining room. From the beginning to the end, these guys were punctual, neat in appearance, and introduced themselves in a respectful manner. I was impressed with how they protected not only my flooring, but they paid special attention to the handling of all my furniture, especially a grandfather clock that my father had given to me years ago. By early afternoon, Diego and Charles came to my home at the agreed upon time to begin the hardwood restoration. Charles allayed all my fears about the project outcome and proceeded to ask me if I had any additional questions or concerns; I did not. Diego discussed the restoration process, and he did not seem to mind me asking him questions as he proceeded to sand the dining room floor. I found Diego to be personable, and it was evident that he knew his craft well. He stated that "The company stood behind their work." Every customer wants to feel like their project is special, and the company completing the work will do the best job. Before the day was over, Charles checked in to make sure all was well. The floor was all but dry, but I wanted to make sure, so I decided not to have any furniture moved back into place for at least another full day. Charles supported my thoughts even though he assured me that there was no need to wait. He stated, "The customer needs to be happy."  And his agreeing to give me another day provided me with contentment! I am most satisfied with the outcome of my hardwood flooring restoration. I would recommend this company and the crew that worked at my home without reservation. These guys were neat in appearance, respectful, hardworking, and everyone involved with this project showed up invested to complete an excellent job with professionalism. Since you wrote that your "business follows the CSLB", then you must be aware that the CSLB states that California contractors cannot ask for a deposit of more than 10 percent of the total cost of the job or $1,000, whichever is less. There are no exceptions for materials purchases. Having a "formula" that works for your business is only something to brag about when that formula is also in compliance with the CSLB standards. Once again, I strongly recommend that all potential home remodeling clients do their due diligence; Visit the CSLB website and look for "What is a Contract?" and review the California Code, Business and Professions Code - BPC § 7159 to learn how a proper construction contract should be formatted before signing a remodeling contract -- especially for those expensive projects where there is more at stake to lose! read more

We had a number of repair and upgrade projects to do in our house and started searching for a contractor in March. We received bids from three different companies, but none of them followed through with a contract. Finally, in July, we received a recommendation for Remodels and Repairs On Demand and they turned out to be outstanding. Charles provided a detailed bid and was very flexible when we requested a couple of changes, even after the work had started. They stayed on schedule and kept us informed with each step of the process. Our project included knocking out an interior wall in a bedroom to reconfigure the closet and install new mirrored sliding doors. In the bathroom, they resealed the shower pan, replaced some ceramic tiles in the shower, replaced some grouting, installed drywall and a can light, relocated electrical switches, prepped walls for painting and painted the work area. They also repaired some exterior window frames that had extensive damage due to dry rot. Charles and his workers from Repairs and Remodels On Demand were honest, polite, punctual, very well organized, easy to work with and finished the job on time. Unexpected circumstances preventing me from looking at the finished remodeling until over one year after completion. I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice everything looked - until I looked a little closer. Here are some of my observations. There was a fine brown dust covering most of the surfaces of the house, even permeating into my closed cabinets. My painter told me he had to spend time wiping down some of the surfaces and also repairing/redoing the spackling and caulking in the new bathroom. I had to redo the caulking in the shower because it was so thin in spots that water was leaking behind the wall. I also noticed that the electrician, who said he "fixed" the problem with two two-way switches controlling a ceiling fan/light (he claimed I wired them incorrectly, yet I hadn't changed the original wiring at all), left me with a ceiling fan/light which was on only when BOTH switches were on. He also apparently managed to connect (short) two circuit branches together. I needed to sever the connection in my attic so that the circuit breakers worked properly again and protected the house from circuit overloads. Although I paid an additional $3000 so that a gas line could be placed from the far side of my house to run to the garage/ADU. However, it looks like the gas line was connected to the new gas water heater which is close to the garage. The worst revelation was my contract clearly called for pipe insulation on all hot water lines and I was very specific to say that I did not want any sheetrock removed, but I wanted all exposed hot water pipes to be insulated. My contract included the labor to install the insulation, but NO HOT WATER PIPES were insulated. In light of these and other issues, I doubt I'll call R and R on Demand to complete their contract. read more

They managed all the remediation work & testing done by ServoPro and then repaired the kitchen cabinets and floor quickly when the remediation was complete. We needed a faucet replaced along with a shut off valve and supply line for a toilet in our guest bathroom replaced. It went very well. After the work was done the next day I did notice a drip from the supply line for the toilet. I contact Repairs and Remodels on Demand and they came back out and fixed the leak right away. I wish I could give zero stars I am so angry and disgusted with this company. We contracted Charles Gilbert's company to install patio doors and deck in November. The first worker Charles sent out stayed gone alot and we smelled alcohol on his breath. He had made several mistakes that my husband caught and spoke with him about. He apologized and sent a new crew out to correct and finish the work. The first set of doors they installed were in-swing instead of out-swing. Three weeks later, they brought a door that was the wrong size. We waited another three weeks. Finally, in FEBRUARY!!! they brought the correct door but they SHATTERED the glass during installation because they did not secure the door while working on it. Charles Gilbert promised to return in two weeks with ANOTHER door, then called and said he couldn't install until the first week in March. Now Charles is saying he can not install on the 19th, but instead, the 27th of March. Charles was condescending and patronizingi. He is refusing to finish the patio door. He and his company have been paid in full. They breached our contract twice previously. He is unscrupulous and fundamentally dishonest. He was given multiple opportunities to make these wrongs, right but chose instead to make excuses and offer lies. MY RECOMMENDATION: DONT HIRE HIM OR HIS COMPANY. NOT WORTH THE HEADACHES. read more

Repairs and Remodels did a great job for us repairing a custom shower drain leak, which involved replacing the drain fitting in the first floor ceiling and completely redoing the shower floor tile and mortar down to the subfloor, including a hot mop, on the second floor. They took time and attention-to-detail to get the tile and drywall as close to original condition as possible. They are reasonably priced, communicate well and often, are courteous and clean up behind themselves, and they got the job done on time. Filled out a web request form on Friday afternoon. They called a couple hours later and they came by Monday morning to look at the job and quote it on the spot. I really wish I received the type of service shared in the other reviews. I contracted with Charles to perform a remodel including roofing, concrete, garage conversion and room addition. We did not get too far into the process before I had to terminate our contract. The first issue was moving our existing water heater and converting to a tankless. Plans for placement were discussed, drawn up and given to me prior to the start date. The day the plumber started work, I was told by Charles that the original placement was not an option and would have to be changed or the work halted altogether. This affected the whole layout of the remodel. I ended up settling on an alternate location for the water heater but I believe this should have been brought to my attention before sending the plumber. I explained to Charles that I am not a contractor and I was relying on him to foresee these types of issues per his expertise. The roof was next on the list. I have both pitched and flat roofs with shingles on both. On the second day roofing, the crew cleaned up around 4:30-5 PM but remained on my property until 7 PM drinking alcohol and urinating on the side of my house. This was brought to Charles' attention and "for my inconvenience", I was given an apology and a $100 discount toward the remaining construction to be done (never received since I terminated the project). I also questioned the completion of the roof since shingles were not replaced on the flat roof. It was only then explained to me, after the fact, that the flat portion of my roof should have never had shingles and they should not be replaced. After that I would have thought attention to detail would have been priority but again I was disappointed... the house numbers of our address were missing (removed by roofers), the architect needed to come out, a third time, for measurements on plans that were already sent for permits, Charles was pricing exterior materials that I did not request and the water heater installation remains incomplete. I hate to leave a negative review but consumers rely on these reviews, as I did. Buyer beware. read more

I called Handyman on Demand and spoke with a man named Charles, he was able to come over a few hours later and help me. When he showed up to my door he shook my hand, gave me his business card (it says Charles Gilbert - President) and got to work immediately. Before I comment on his handyman talents, I would just like to say that this was the best dressed handyman that I've ever seen. I'm used to seeing contractors who smell like cigarette smoke, with big guts hanging out from under the front of their shirt or their butt crack hanging out the back. Charles was not that kind of handyman, he was very clean cut and well dressed. Anyhow, I have a home that was built in 1926, I rent it out and I like to keep it well maintained. I just had a tenant move out, and much to my chagrin, my tenant had bolted a huge curtain rod to the wood casing around one of the bedroom windows. This is the original gum wood frame that's like 5 inches wide all the way around. I didn't want all of this nice wood work getting ruined or looking crappy, so Charles managed to gently remove this heavily bolted rod without having the wood damaged. I am very pleased. read more
