Based on that storyline, they're refusing to take responsibility for the flooring damage. The windows were installed without permits. I brought in four independent inspections, including three licensed general contractors and one home inspector. All confirmed active water intrusion and pointed to the window installation as the likely source. Despite that, Forever Builders continues to deny, redirect, and avoid addressing the actual installation. The floors never had water intrusion before the remodel. The problem started after their work. Instead of owning it and fixing it, they've chosen to argue technicalities and wait for CSLB to force the issue. For a company that promotes itself as 5-star, this has been anything but. When serious defects surface, there's no urgency, no accountability, and no effort to stand behind the work. Just excuses. That is not 5-star service. That is not what integrity looks like.

At the time, we were very happy with our kitchen remodel and the overall experience working with Creative Design & Build. The project turned out beautifully, which is why I originally left such a positive review. Over the years, however, I noticed that one section of the flooring felt slightly soft when walking on it. At first, it did not seem serious, so we continued to live with it. Recently, the problem became worse and a section of the floor began to noticeably sink when stepped on and eventually a few edges of the flooring broke. At that point, I became concerned that it could become a safety issue. Because we still had plenty of spare flooring boards left over from the project, I attempted to replace the affected board myself. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the new board to fit correctly due to the locking system, and I could not restore the original board either. I then contacted Creative Design & Build for assistance. One reason I reached out was because our original project manager, Oded, had told us that if we ever had any issues, we should contact the company. I left a voicemail and later received a return call from a staff member. After I explained the situation, she said she would check with management and get back to me. A few days later, I received a text message stating that the warranty had expired and that no repairs would be covered. This was disappointing because I had never been informed that there was a four-year warranty period, nor was I able to find any reference to such a limitation in our contract. When I asked for details regarding the warranty and whether they could recommend someone to repair the issue, I did not receive any further response. There were two other issues relating to electrical and plumbing, however we decided to live with that until we had a major problem we needed fixing. I still appreciate the work that was done on our remodel years ago, and our kitchen remains a space we enjoy. However, I have been disappointed by the lack of follow-up and support when a problem arose. My advice to future customers is to make sure all warranty terms, coverage details, and expiration dates are clearly documented and understood before signing a contract.

Kaycee and Pat at The California Home Company continually called on my lender and the lender was reluctant to respond and assist at first. They stepped in and persisted to get the answers I needed from the bank. Kaycee and Pat are always responsive and they kept us updated to the changes that occurred with the lender. They were able to get the lender to give us a long-term structured settlement. I hired this company so that I would not have that headache. David was completely absent on this project. In fact, he took a vacation the first week of my project, leaving me to deal with the subs and I had to deal with them throughout the project. Throughout the project, I always had the impression that my garage job was not important to this company. The design was botched and the garage door opening had to be rebuilt to accommodate a standard rolling door. Quality review was non existent. First big rain and there was water leaking in under the mudsill. The other photo shows light coming in between the new & old structure.

I had a few contractors provide quotes, his was not the cheapest but I chose DWJ because they showed up professionally, on time and super responsive. If you've dealt with contractors before, you know how important this is for a peace of mind. I hired them to refinish old oak floors of an home I purchased, the results are exceptional. They sanded everything down beautifully and applied 4 coats of Bona Traffic HD in a matte finish. The matte look is exactly what I wanted, and the durability of the Traffic HD is top-tier. What impressed me was the owners attention to detail, he personally came to check the work between each stage. Once the old coating came off, he discovered some minor termite damage on a few planks. He replaced those three planks for no additional cost, and the repair blends in so perfectly it looks brand new. His pricing wasn't the cheapest, but also not the most expensive, I thought it was incredibly fair value for how easy he made the process.

We did a large and complex remodel that involved moving interior walls, demo down to studs, new appliances, new floors, electrical and plumbing. We lived in the front part of our home while the construction was completed, so we had a front row seat to the process and navigated people working while we were home for months. If a remodel was going to go south, this would have been it. It didn't, and the final product is remarkable. There are so many elements I could speak to, but this review would be too long! I'll hit the highlights as they are worth mentioning: Price: Let's be real, cost is a central component to a remodel. Ed Brasseur was up front with us about costs, including the possibility things could cost more than expected. When prices changed, because of the market (labor, cost of lumber, etc.) or because of our choices, he let us know right away. He helped us source local vendors and made practical suggestions for where spending money was worth it and where it wasn't. Communication: I think Ed Brasseur is a straight shooter. He let us know the best ways to reach him (text vs email vs calls) for each type of concern, he was available, and his tone was helpful, kind and direct. It's a balance I haven't found in another contractor. He was also clear about timelines, payment, and kept us posted as things progressed. The Work Itself: Our home looks amazing. It is like a different house! They supported our design choices, checked in with us as they went, and made detailed suggestions that enhanced our ideas. I cannot express it well enough, so I've included some before and after pics below. The People: There are some stellar folks working with Ed, and they deserve direct shout-outs in this review: Eduardo: Eduardo is a solid team leader. He was clear, helpful and hopeful when we had concerns. When something needed to be managed, he said "no problem" and he meant it. Interactions with him felt both authentic and professional, and his work is really good. He delegated well and stepped up to handle things himself when he needed to. That's gold in a foreman. Erick: There is a real pride in the craft evident in Erick. He has a mix of a clear work ethic and a sense of humor. That made a big difference in our day-to-day experience. Working in someone's home while they are there, working from home themselves, is no easy task. He handled it personably and professionally. (PS: Our closet is great, Erick!) Moises: If you want someone to do the work both quickly and well, Moises is your man. He got right to the task, was efficient, detailed, and he's just a nice guy. He protected our furniture and other property when things needed to be masked and covered, and, to be frank, we could tell he gave a shit about us and the project. Thanks, Moises. There are others I could name, but I think the gist is clear: this is a good team, led by a solid foreman, directed by the head of a company who really knows what he is doing. Thanks, y'all. I think their apologies were sincere and they assured me that this was an issue of new employees. It was apparent that the company pays attention to their reviews and responded accordingly. These folks are definite pros and would recommend them to folks looking for home remodeling. Any questions and concerns we had before and during the project were answered and addressed promptly. We were kept apprised of any schedule changes and items that would have needed a change request was provided to us in a reasonable time. The quality of the work was great, and everyone involved in the remodel was courteous and professional, and to top it off the project was completed before the estimated date.

I contracted with Marrokal for an outdoor living area remodel. I am a business owner and have done…read moremany commercial buildouts with contractors. I have also done a number of home remodels as a 30 year homeowner. I am reasonable in my expectations on what to expect from construction and understand the challenges with construction. I know that not everything goes perfect and certain issues will happen on any construction project. However, the issues on this project were extensive and beyond reason. The subs they use are of very poor quality with poor oversight by Marrokal to ensure quality. Poor workmanship, poor quality control to address the workmanship, lack of integrity with contracted issues and all led to a poor overall experience and caused me to expend tremendous time and energy in order to achieve a good finished product and avoid being overcharged. Nearly every trade had significant issues with workmanship. The Concrete had a hump throughout the slab that required a week of grinding to allow tile installation and did not allow sufficient weep screed height. The Electrician had to cut out structural joists to install speakers because they cut two of the holes in the wrong place. The stucco had over 60 cracks throughout requiring elastomeric paint due to failure to use a crack isolation membrane which I learned should have been used for the matching smooth stucco finish. The framer did a poor job framing for the fireplace requiring modification. The fireplace installation was poorly done with insufficient vent height leading to 8 months of delay at project end to remedy the issue. Poor finish carpentry work was done by the project manager and should have been done by a finish carpenter. While this was primarily an exterior project, three windows were installed. The interior was left unfinished for a number of months to do simple molding and drywall work which was only 1-2 days of work and could have been done much sooner requiring us to have our kitchen and master bedroom a mess throughout the project. In addition to the workmanship and quality control issues there were major issues with the finance/contract issues on this project. My budget was not even close to adhered to in the planning phase with no transparency until an excessive price was given to me with no supporting detail or breakdown of how it was arrived at. After a lot of back and forth and once the contract was agreed to, there were multiple issues with attempts to charge me more despite a contracted price that covered those items. This included attempts to charge me more for electrical for heaters that was covered under the contract, attempts to charge more for deck pricing after we already signed a change order contract for deck changes, attempt to do chain link fence rather than stucco around back of deck despite renderings and contract/plans that showed a stucco wrapped deck. Ultimately, Marrokal agreed to resolve each of my requests as I was in the right but it took a lot of time, energy and debate with management to get to the result. We are extremely happy with the end result and they designed a nice layout but there was a lot of pain to get to completion.

So we knew this one was it or back to the drawing board. Anyway we closed and had Lee come take a look. All the termite repairs went so fast and smoothly, we had Lee Austin Construction help with our full remodel as well. We took out 2 walls, re-did our kitchen, bathroom and all the flooring. Everything they worked on looks incredible and we stayed on budget. We are planning an addition and I have no doubt that we will be talking to Lee and the team in the very near future. It didn't take long to realize that they really know what their doing and the craftsmanship was proof of that. I would recommend their services in a second!!

The subs that worked on our kitchen were all artists. The build itself was a good experience and the end result ended up on Kitchen tours and in pictured in Magazines. I've used cheaper contractors on other parts of my house, and it shows. I really wish I hadn't.

They also repaired a water-damaged bathroom ceiling, patched and painted our hardscape stucco walls and repaired a water-damaged wall in the garage. He is also working up quotes for epoxying our garage floor and replacing the threshold on our front door. Sam is up to any challenge, and no job is too small. But their main business is remodeling/renovation. Sam and Maria excel in every aspect. They are knowledgeable, skilled, efficient, easy too work with, excellent communicators and reasonably priced.
