A few years back I had good care at AAC, so I'm very disappointed to report that this is no longer the case. My cat escaped the house and was attacked by a dog. He was seen by a local veterinarian, but had complications to his breathing one night and we rushed him to AAC. The care there was VERY inconsistent. Some of the vets and techs were good and others were not. This inconsistency of care and transfer of information was a huge problem. After a few days of care, they ended up calling us in the middle of the night, put us on hold for 5 minutes where I was just panicking, and then insisted he needed to be euthanized. They also told me they weren't providing basic care they promised like draining his bladder. We rushed there and were hard sold on euthanizing him based on information I later found to be incorrect, if not an outright lie. So now my cat is dead, and I am questioning so much of what happened. After a couple of weeks, I left a clear review voicing my concerns on another review site. Nothing mean. Nothing out of hand. I would hope they'd take my concerns to heart. I must have struck a nerve, because they followed up by sending me a letter that basically said (paraphrasing), "Sorry your cats is dead, but you left a bad review so now you are banned from all of our practices." I've NEVER heard of such behavior from a vet, and I'm still shocked. It feels like the intent was cruelty, and not something you would expect from a vet that truly cares about animal welfare. Came in to treat my sick cat, he had pneumonia and needed to be treated. They gave me meds and gave him a booster shot, yet they didn't actually inject him and got it all over his fur, commented on it then proceeded to do nothing. He proceeded to pass away that night. After TWO surgeries this was what my baby's eye looked like! He had to have a THIRD surgery thankfully from out family vet to fix their neglect and malpractice. They have caused us thousands more than needed and caused our baby prolonged suffering and pain and damage to his muscles that can never be repaired. This place required payment PRIOR to treating a police service animal that was seriously injured in the line of duty, when it was brought in by an officer who was in uniform. This animal had to be taken to another facility to be treated, his injuries required ten staples.. After my dog got hit by a car, I had to drive him 1 hour to this place. They obviously cared more about money than my dog. But yet refused to let me pay $100 a month. Then after leaving the dog there so I could go scrounge up $450 from anyone, they threatened to euthanize my dog!!! Really? It's been one night and a lot of conversations trying to find a way to PAY for my dogs injuries....only to find out they don't give a flying poop about my dog. I could pay $100 a month but they refuse that, they would rather send my dog home with a dislocated hip and maybe internal bleeding rather than take a payment plan. Now I am getting them the $450 I owe but my dog is still in pain and injured. Heartless! I would never recommend ever! We have been going to the Richmond AAC or another branch of AAC for years and every year we have problems with them not maintaining records across their offices of our appointments and not doing what we asked them to do at our appointments. I took my Corgi to the Advanced Animal Hospital in Richmond KY for emergency medical care; The receptionist was helpful and assisted us. However, the doctors were compassionate to an extent. My baby was placed in an oxygen tent, and she was miserable in the tent due to a lack of support. The doctor was on his iPhone during this time. i was given an estimate of $3,200 payable at time of service. I did pay the amount upfront for my baby's medical care. I don't think she got the quality care I paid for. I was placed on hold couple times when I called to get an update on my dog and the vet tech was rude when she answered. Another time I called for an update no one would pick up the phone. My dog did pass however because I had to have her put to sleep due to the lungs feeling up with fluid. The vet tech informed me they were going to put my dog in a freezer until I got there to retrieve her remains. My observations of this hospital are some of the vet techs are rude and uncompassionate with pet parents. I WOULD NOT take another pet to Advanced Animal Care. I am not upset with the staff at all; however, I would rate them a 2 out of 10. read more

Omg, I can't begin to tell you how wonderful this place & staff were!!! My little 21 month old dog got hit by a car and had a head injury. It was awful. At one point my husband said she was dead. We are from Harlan and had ro drive 2 hours but they took the best care of her. She was there 2 nights and when I went to get her, they have me a refund ! Who does that? And to make matters better, my little Jill is almost like brand new ! I will always be indebted to them. read more

I'm not usually a person who complains, and can put up with a lot of shitty treatment before I say something. However, this vet office has let me down more than once at this point, and I feel like this review should be said/given. We have been to this vet a total of 3-4 times for our animals, and the first time we went, they ended up saving one of our cats (although the medication they gave us for his pneumonia made him go mostly blind--but I don't totally blame them for that. Just wish we had been warned better). We were grateful for them having saved our cat's life, so decided to go back a second time whenever we had an emergency. About a year later, we had to take one of out cats in there for an emergency one night. They determined she would need staples in her leg, and were supposed to put the staples in her leg when they took her to the back. We live in Lexington, so it's a little bit of a drive to get to Richmond. But we really liked them the first time we visited, so we assumed all would be fine. We were wrong, however. We left the visit and were almost home when we got a call from them telling us that they forgot to put the staples in our cat. How can you forget the one thing we came in for? It's actually appalling. But we were still understanding and drove right back to get the staples put in. We did not receive any kind of discount for our trouble, nor even a simple apology from anyone. Fast forward a year or so later and we had a euthanasia appointment at our regular vet for that Monday for our elderly cat who had cancer and lung disease. Unfortunately, she went into respiratory distress on the Saturday night before, which was what brought us back to Advanced Animal Care, giving them another chance. When we got there, they took our cat to the back to get a catheter put in for euthanasia. They took us to a room, then the vet tech brought her back to us in the room. As soon as he came in, he dropped her onto the floor by accident. She started seizing and wasn't able to breathe. She was actively dying. I kept saying, "she's not doing well, she needs the vet," and while the tech did apologize for dropping her, he also began to take his time going over urn choices and such. I understand that was part of his job, but he seemed to not be able to read the room, and had no understanding in the fact that she was not able to breathe after dropping her, and was dying. I cried and tried to rush through the choices. I know I must have sounded very distressed and annoyed. I told him "she's dying. We need the vet immediately." He finally left to go get the vet, and the vet herself seemed to be very empathetic toward what we were feeling and going through. She euthanized our cat and finally put her out of her misery. We were distraught, but glad to have the experience over with. The cherry on top of the whole experience was us receiving a sympathy card in the mail from them yesterday with the WRONG cat's name on it. And it isn't like I was expecting a sympathy card, or banking on having one. But it felt so impersonal to have received the wrong card/had our late cat called the wrong name by people who were supposed to have cared. I debated even writing a review, but I decided I wanted to give my experience for other people to see. And also in hopes that this might give some motivation to the clinic to get their act together or train their techs a little better. I was a vet tech for a few years when I was younger, so I know it's hard work. I know it's emotionally, physically, and mentally taxing. So I do try to be understanding of that and of the fact that people just sometimes mess up. But I honestly would not recommend another pet owner to ever go here with the experiences I have had. I am appreciative to the fact that they helped us the first time we went, and am grateful to emergency vets for what they do. But be wary of taking your pets here. read more

We took our doodle in there for an emergency and encountered the most odd and terrible experience. I don't leave reviews for anyone, ever, but after last nights events I wanted to make sure to leave one here. I've been to this facility multiple times in the past, but this team night team was terrible. The doctor led herself in a very unprofessional way showing zero empathy for her patient or any regard to us. It was bizarre, the team lead was disrespectful and didn't acknowledge the fact that we had a history of being there. I will never return and my honest thought is this place is unethical, in every possible way they can be. I have a solid history with my vet, and have spent thousands in vet bills over the years for all of my animals, including there. Other vets have noticed they have a new staff and this place has went down hill. I was honestly worried for my dog at that point & it's bizarre because the last few times we've used this facility it was top notch. If you have an animal that's possibly on its death bed, please read this. The other reviews you see of this place mentioning that they over medicate their patients are true. Before you think about putting your beloved fur baby down, please please please get another opinion. Our furbaby had a serious infection and they were only doing antibiotic injections when they should've done ROUND the clock IV antibiotics. They kept our Rufus so drugged up with pain medicine he couldn't walk or eat. Two days after getting him out of there he started eating and walking around. We almost put him to sleep because of this. My friend had the exact same thing happen with her pet and it was the same issue - over drugged with pain medication to keep him sick to keep getting $$$$$. GET A SECOND OR THIRD OPINION. We had a bizarre experience. The following is our true experience at Advanced Animal Clinic in Richmond, KY. It is owned by Jim and/or John Martin. The people we encountered are: Bridgett Maynard, a vet technician; Dr. Cynthia Clark Boynton, the veterinarian who examined Lewis; Jamie House, the office manager; and Dr. Allison Conner, a veterinarian who consulted on the case. We would NOT recommend Advanced Animal Care and this "family owned" business to anyone. Advanced Animal Care in Berea and Waco Animal Hospital are owned by the same people. We took our cat, Lewis, in because he was sick. We told them about how we basically thought it might be one of three things: Lyme disease because of the ticks. The most recent tick was hard to get out and Lewis still had a lump on his neck from it. It had been about two weeks since I had pulled it out and we were worried that the head of the tick may have remained and was starting all over in Lewis's body. (Dr. Cynthia Clark didn't feel anything because Lewis was a "fluffy guy.") The salamander. We have seen Lewis eat many gross things over the years, and he never had an upset stomach. We thought that maybe the fattiness of the salamander had not digested and perhaps was stuck in Lewis's digestive tract. We wondered if the salamander had secretions that were toxic and had irritated Lewis. We just didn't know. (Dr. Cynthia Clark noted that his abdomen was SOFT.) We thought Lewis might have had an inner ear infection. We truly were always cleaning out his ears. Literally, his ears were "waxy" almost every day. (Dr. Cynthia Clark, in all of her professionalism and expertise - 700 dollars worth - didn't even check Lewis's ears with an otoscope.) They suggested expensive tests before the doctor ever examined him. The doctor, Dr. Cynthia Clark - she may go by Dr. Cynthia Clark Boynton, finally said that Lewis looked okay for his age, he was missing some back molars and a canine-that was normal for Lewis's age and the fact that he did spend a lot of time outside hunting. She said, overall, she couldn't find anything wrong with Lewis. I asked her if she felt the nodule on Lewis's neck that the last tick bite had left. She said she didn't feel it in her examination, but said "Lewis was a fluffy/furry guy." ??? I asked if she thought Lewis could have an obstructed intestinal/gestational tract. She didn't seem to think so. She noted that his abdomen was soft. I asked her how his ears were. She said they were fine. I asked if she saw a lot of wax deep within and she said, "I DIDN'T LOOK AT THEM WITH AN OTOSCOPE." On Monday, we took Lewis to Berea Animal Hospital where the doctor said Lewis's abdomen WASN'T soft, but he had a palpable mass - the doctor could feel it with his hands - the size of a key lime. Lewis had surgery the following day and we said goodbye to him because his mass was spread throughout his stomach area and we did not want him to suffer. Advanced Animal Care initially charged us over $700 to say they couldn't find anything wrong with Lewis except his elevated white blood cell count. They did bloodwork, a SNAP test, and gave him an antibiotic shot. They said his abdomen WAS SOFT. Two days later when Dr. Long felt the mass with his hands, I called Advanced Animal Care to start a dispute on the charges. Dr. Allison Conner said this: DR. LONG WAS ABLE TO FEEL THE MASS WITH ONLY HIS HANDS (as opposed to Dr. Cynthia Clark Boynton) BECAUSE HE IS INSANELY TALENTED. Advanced Animal Care did refund us $212. I would like a refund of the remainder. I suppose I will take them to court for that. In the days that followed, I called all three clinics in an effort to speak with an owner. I left messages, but no response. A couple of days later, I received a letter from Advanced Animal Care stating that their decision was final and for me to NOT CALL THEIR CLINIC AGAIN. It was signed by Jamie House, the office manager of the Richmond location. Do not trust your babies with these people. We never will again. read more

My little sweet calico became very ill. I brought her to the office. Dr. K. Was the veterinarian. After blood work and a once over the outcome was not good. Even with that, I could have not asked for better care. Explained everything to me. They ALL were so caring, compassionate and patient. I could not have asked for anything more. 3 days ago my dog had a cyst removed from his eyelid at advanced animal care berea. Today he managed to rip the incision despite me following post op instructions 100%. I had no other choice but to take him to the Richmond road location. Dr. Turner ( I believe was her name) informed me he would be needing surgery again, but it would be almost double the cost of what I paid in berea. I was given a range and asked for a 350.00 deposit. The medical assistant mentioned that the berea location didn't give the appropriate amount of medication, but I can't understand how she made that conclusion as she doesn't know what specifically or how much was given initially. The other medical assistant was very rude with her mannerism,when I asked for more clarity on the price sheet she was basically reading off to me,She rolled her eyes, huffed, and forcefully slammed the door. I felt like they did not try to "meet me in middle" a term used by staff. I would have expected the surgery to be redone with proper instructions or a discounted surgery and that would have sufficed. I went back and forth on doing the surgery with them because it felt dishonest and I didn't appreciate the staff or the vets laissez faire attitude. At one point I said send him home with pain medicine and I will see our original vet on Monday. Condescendingly the assistant came in and said this is 22 dollars and something ( I don't remember exactly)is that doable for pain medicine until Monday and a new e collar? My issue wasn't money; my issue was paying more money to a company that didn't give proper after care instructions that caused us to waste more time and money and put my dog through another surgery and extend his recovery time. After talking with my spouse we agreed to just do the surgery when they informed us that the risk was a corneal ulcer if we waited until Monday. The assistant left to inform the vet. I waited and after an hour I went to let my dog pee and grab my bank card from the car. When I returned to the desk and laid my card on the counter the office personnel said they were no longer willing to do the surgery due to my complaints. So even though I was unhappy with their willingness to "meet in the middle" they turned a pet away who needed surgery and that admittedly said could suffer more trauma by waiting until Monday. The staff is Extremely rude, totally unprofessional, and clearly they do not care about the wellbeing of your pets, since they turned away a pet needing surgery. Take your pet elsewhere. read more

Had a shady breeder give me my dog and it turned out he was infested with parasites that were sucking the blood out of my poor baby Maverick. They market toward the desperate pet-owner who has nowhere to go because it's after hours and then they play on the emotions once you get there. They are vultures and they should be ashamed for what they do to people and their pets. Our bill was close to $2,000 after they put our cat through hell and then finally killed her. They made empty promises, never offered any solutions or even euthanasia - just a ton of expensive 'therapies' and 'infusions.' Kept wanting to keep her yet another day, when initially they said it would be just one night. They are dishonest, fake, criminal. We had a meeting with the office manager, Jamie and told her what happened. She wouldn't believe us and just said that her vet, Dr. Crabtree wouldn't ever make that mistake. But she did. And they just won't admit it. We have no recourse, as we signed a contract for services. So we had to pay. DO NOT TAKE YOUR WORST ENEMY TO THIS PLACE! We asked them to discount the bill, since they did NOT do what they promised and charged for all kinds of nonsense treatments that they KNEW wasn't going to help our poor cat. I have to agree that Advanced Animal Care is more interested in Money, Money, Money that anything else. Against my better judgement I gave them a large deposit which they require for treatment of an animal. They wanted more but I gave the minimum amount I could. When I got different stories from different vets on how my pet was doing and the treatment my pet was getting I decided it was time to get the animal out of there. In doing so I actually had a refund coming to me only problem was I had paid the deposit with a check. I was told that because I had used a check I would have to wait 6-8 weeks for them to send me a refund check. So that means they will get to use MY money for 6 to 8 weeks. Incredible. After going all over the place to help my blocked cat this facility was able to perform PU surgery and hospitalization immediately. I got a much lower price than all the other places. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The vets were extremely knowledgeable! Every time I called to check in on my baby they were never annoyed and I spoke to a doctor every time. The facility was clean and well managed. I felt so relieved to have my boy taken care of once I got there. I loved and appreciated actually getting to talk to his providing vet and get realistic information straight from them. I highly recommend. read more

It is unfortunate that I live in a part of Kentucky that this is the only place we can go. I have lost two dogs in one year to the new vets that are very un- experience. I do not recommend this establishment. I knew exactly what my pet needed for care as per her regular veterinarian. My vet was closed so I decided to come here to try and get the treatment. It cost 107 dollars before tax which is the cheapest in the area seemingly. They refused to give her any treatment unless I payed for 140 some dollar x-rays. If you can wait I recommend seeing your regular veterinarian. Only go if you have deep pockets because they want your money. read more

They provide the look of professionalism. But there is a lack of it. I was charged a deposit, which was part of the exam fee. upon arrival they weren't sure why I was there, there wasn't an appointment made. I asked if the exotic vet was even there to see us and the secretary said yea she's here. So they "squeezed" me in. 15 minutes passed and a tech came in to tell us the vet hasn't arrived and would be there shortl, kinda odd since I was already told the vet was on site. 1.15 hours later we saw a technician. Who Who took my pet to the back for an examination, which I almost left then because I was very uncomfortable with the exam being done out of my presence. When the vet came in that all was fine. I went to checkout expecting to pay the other $20/$50, since I'd paid the $30 prior. But I was told $53 was due. It was then explained the $30 I paid was to "hold the appointment" which was never held for me. When I challenged it, the secretary just looked at me blankly. I asked first the person in charge and was told they are unavailable. So I asked them to call upon returning and paid the $53. 2 hours later I received a call, not from the manager but another tech. She was calling to inform me I wasn't billed for the nail trimming and should be fine with the $53 charge. So not only was I deceived and also lied to upon arrival, they had to call and tell me I should be happy I wasn't charged a nail trimming fee. I will not be doing business with them in the future. I'll make the 2 hour drive to the next vet. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this animal care center. Everyone I encountered here was caring, professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and kind. The wide range of services- from oxygen chamber, stem cell therapy, surgery, instant x-rays, micro-chipping, etc.- insure that your pet will have the equipment and knowledgeable staff to help with his/her needs. Their quick actions save my cat, whose gums and tongue has already turned blue due to a breathing problem. I cannot say enough about the manner in which this office is run and the services they offer. I was kept informed at all times, given a written estimate of possible care costs- after he was put into oxygen therapy- and told to call anytime I wanted. Someone is there 24/7 looking after the animals. I have my Tommy home now and he is in much better shape thanks to these wonderful people. Thank you to everyone there! read more

After exhaustively ending up at advanced animal care I was relieved. Such friendly/caring voices over the phone (due to COVID) and I had been to a vet before this one who offered me no help with my dogs urinary issues. So, after some very expensive check ups (driving an hour and a half and paying no less than $250 each time) my baby had struvite stones! He had to have emergency surgery to have them removed and it went awesome. 3 MONTHS later they call me back with my dogs urinalysis results! (Should have taken 2 weeks max) to tell me everything looks great he doesn't need to be on a prescription diet anymore as they are just struvite! Another month goes by and I take my dog in to have his urine checked again. There were tons of crystals! Again! This time Dr. Connor actually came outside! First question was, "is he still on his prescription diet?" I explained that another doctor (Dr. Lu) had told me complete opposite and she knew I was completely upset and distraught. Not caring at all and being absolutely careless and rude she told me I could go somewhere else, no sympathy at all!! And without a doubt I absolutely did! $2,000 dollars and a horrible experience later! I now am going to a wonderful vet, --Noah's Ark in Manchester! My dog has absolutely no struvite crystals! (It's not even been a month!) and they are much more caring and appreciative to my little baby, they actually remember his name and even say it right! The only reason my family and I keep bringing our dogs here is because of Dr. Conner. She is an incredible vet and is so personable and easy to talk to. She remembers all of our pets and their conditions without having to ask or look it up. The reason I am giving them 3 stars is because of the wait time. We arrive for our appointments on time or before, call to check in, and have to wait at least 30-45mins to speak with someone. Take your pets here to see Dr. Conner, but be prepared to wait for a while! read more

Worst vet. To dang expensive and all the workers can never answer a question direct. They try to argue with you and never know when to shut up. All they really care about is money. If it's not money they don't want anything to do with you. You suck Advanced Animal Care. read more

I always receive great care for my dog. He gets his nails trimmed there because he's terrified to get them done and they manage to do it with great care and compassion. His regular visits always go well and the doctors are knowledgeable and thorough. read more

An ill friend's pet was sent to this hospital, because the other vet felt she needed IVs. This place did a few tests, then said it would be $800 to treat her. My friend could not afford that. So they said they would send her home with him, but not UNTIL he gave them over $60 just for looking at her. I think they gave her a blood and urine test. They would not give the dog back. I live in another state and phoned in with payment so they would release the dog. They held this very sick dog ransom until they received payment for just looking at her, no treatment. Awful. I feel so bad for my friend. ;( Also, I asked for a receipt and she said okay. I said, "Aren't you going to ask me for an email or mailing address?" Her reply, "Okay".
