I went there for my first time due to two different things. One thing was bites and the other was a rash I had. I saw doctor fox. He stood way too close to my face..barely looked at my rash.. Pushed down the top of my shirt to tell me I had sun spots and should get a full body exam to get screened for skin cancer. He also tried to force me to buy a cream that was $40 that I did not need. I am a nurse, so I know what patient care should be. This was not it. Staff were not the most friendly. Then waited over an hour to actually see the doctor, who spent no more than 5 mins with me and seemed very rushed and not very helpful with advice for skin care. I was a patient for the first time yesterday in the Ridgewood office. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I wish I could give this no stars. I had an 8:45 appointment time in which I arrived 20 min prior to so I could fill out paperwork. The front desk receptionist is very rude but I ignore that at first. I fill out my paperwork very quickly and handed it back. My appointment time came and went, I asked the receptionist how much longer it would be since I had to get to work. I was starting to think they forgot about me. I was not called into the room until 9:25. Which I find absolutely ridiculous. There was FIVE patients for Dr. Hu that came in AFTER me and were seen BEFORE me. I got into the room and the medical assistant was OK, and that is me being generous. She was very short with me and rushing me through questions. The Dr. was pretty nice but again I felt rushed by her and I feel as though the appointment only lasted the 15 min was because she has to biopsy something on me. Other than that it would have been in and out. Here's the thing....I am a nurse in a doctors office, a successful one with extremely pleasant staff and lovely doctors at that, and have never found reason for that type of behavior or wait time. I would NEVER rush a patient or make them feel uncomfortable so why was that how I was treated? The front desk of an office is the face of your company, and it boggles my mind that they have such an unfriendly staff and that it's acceptable. Whether I was a nurse, a plumber, or a chef...you are dealing with someone's health. That is not something to rush or take lightly. I was so unhappy with my experience here. I want to write two reviews, one for the doctor and one for the reception staff. Dr Hu is great, she really spent a lot of time with me and was educated on a rare issue I deal with. I really like her - 4 stars. Now for reception. I have never been treated as rudely anywhere. They don't greet you nicely, they don't even greet you, they ignore you, they are not friendly and when you call you get put on hold forever. I am not sure who the office manager is but looking at these complaints from last year, things have not changed. It is just awful. read more

I had an appointment on May 24th. I was given a diagnosis for a certain type of dermatitis, easily treatable with prescription cream. The problem was, the office was "so busy" that they could not call the pharmacy to give them pre-approval for my medicine. If I wanted it then, I would have to pay over 700 dollars for a cream. All I needed was for the office to call, give pre-approval, and I would pay 10 dollars. I called the office ten times over the course of two weeks. The one day, someone in the office said she would have the doctor call me to touch base on why this was such a problem. The doctor leaves me a message late on a Friday night, saying "we can see your daughter Monday morning but in the meantime, just put cortisone on the area." I do not have a daughter, and also no idea why I was left this message. The icing on the cake was getting a call from a pharmacy in the BRONX telling me that my prescription was ready to be picked up. I live in Bergen county. I have no idea why some random pharmacy that I have no connection to was given my prescription. Once I got that call, I called up the office and told them to cancel my follow up appointment and told them how difficult this has been. I am completely disgusted with the experience. I don't understand how patients are expected to wait four weeks to pick up their prescription. DO NOT COME HERE. There are plenty of other dermatologists in the area that are better managed. I wish I didn't waste my time and money. read more

This practice is poorly managed. It has no regard for seeing patients at the appointed time. On a recent visit, after being kept waiting for 90 minutes, I inquired at the desk how long more would I have to wait and the only satisfaction I got was that I would be after a lady who was also kept waiting, which made me 4th in line - potentially I could wait another hour. Not so much as an apology. It looks like Dr. Fox's significantly over books his schedule - you better not be in a hurry if you visit this practice. This is a big, impersonal office where everyone has attitude from the front desk on up. The nurse was rude and incommunicative. Dr. Kurtzman embarrassed me greatly, gave me two minutes of his time, allowed no opportunity for questions, then stated, "Once a year," and walked out. Avoid this office. read more

Went to Dr. Silver for a cosmetic consult. He was very caring and really listened to all my concerns. I decided to have some filler and botox and WOW ---I love it! The office was busy and had to wait for a while, but well worth the wait. He did a great job. As the saying goes "everyone will notice but no one will know". Easily one of the worst dermatology experiences I have had. My mistake was not checking the reviews for this clinic before wasting my time and money on Advanced Dermatology. The staff is rude, they are constantly running late, and I was taken aback at how incompetent some of their certified nurses, doctors, and physician assistants were. Karen is great! Very professional and considerate. I had a growth removed from my back...pretty simple, painless (thanks, Karen) procedure. She explained to me what she was doing and why she was doing it, and made sure that I was comfortable all the way through. I would definitely see her again for any of my skin concerns. I had been a patient with advanced dermatology for both medical and cosmetic reasons and the Drs are great.

The office staff are AWFUL!!! Every time you go there be prepared they will check if your insurance is active or inactive. I've been going to this office since I was 12years old and I never had a problem until now. I went in on a Tuesday they told me my insurance was inactive I called on my personal cell phone and spoke to someone from my insurance who said I was active and an office staff member got on the phone and was told I was active through the entire month of September. This wasn't the first time I had been through this with the front desk. I then went in on Friday of the same week and they gave me the same issue telling me my insurance was inactive. I broke down in tears as I am clearly going to the Dermatologist because of an acne issue I'm having and they're increasing the stress that is in turn helping to worsen my acne. Instead of possibly thinking there was an issue on their end with their computer system they continued to do this to me every time I went. I received a phone call from their office Manager Monica R. Who refused to give me her actual last name. She told me she was calling to clear up the insurance issue prior to me coming in today. Monica R. Told me if she called my insurance and I was inactive that I could not be seen in the office meanwhile the dermatologist has me on very strong medication for my acne that you can't just stop taking as well I just had a 70% strength chemical peel and 15% tca done to my face on Friday in the office. So Monica R. Would risk the health and well being of a patient because of a misunderstanding of insurance coverage pretty sad on her end clearly she doesn't care about patients and their well being. A bill could simply be sent to the patient if there was no coverage you don't tell a patient who is under a doctors care that they can't be seen you are risking their life under the high dosage of medication I am on that I rather not disclose. If it wasn't for the RPA-C Karen Duarte that I see and who actually cares about her patients I would no longer go there. Also since I am on serious medication I would need to figure out a plan with her before going to another dermatologist. The office staff is absolutely horrible and stressful and will not help you. They also brought to my attention an outstanding balance for the FIRST TIME from July 2016 when it's now September 2017 and the office said since they changed their program they can't provide any documentation to show the date of service they're referring to. I waited over 2 months for an appointment with Dr. Lieb. I needed a full body scan. She barely spent 5 minutes with me. She didn't even bother to turn on the poll lamp, just used the overhead lighting. I've had skin cancer in the past. She spent more time looking at the computer than me. She said she had some samples to give me but never came back to give me any. The women at the reception desk seemed more concerned about getting the appointments in for the money makers like botox than just regular people. I will never go here again. read more

This office is more like a factory or clinic, not a caring private office. They also will perform unnecessary procedures to pad the bill. Went there 3 years ago for a rash on my face and Dr. Lieb decided to remove something on my calf which looked like a mosquito bite to add an extra $1100 to the bill. I haven't been back since. This month, Advanced Dermatology charged my health insurance account for a visit I did not have and a Doctor I never saw! Beware! read more

Extremely frustrated & disappointed in Advanced Dermatology product! It caused breakout all over my face & chest/neck to include sistic spots! Telling me this was a deep cleaning I continued to use over a months time. Beware, the price is on par with what I was previously useing, however ended up paying over $160. just for trying it! This place mine as well be a fast food drive thru. A little background I suffer from acne and was hoping consult and determine the best suitable treatment based on my skin. I was seen by the PA Karen Duarte who didn't even examine the acne and just after 5mins of going over basic questions seemed to want to leave. She had her back to me the entire time while looking on her computer and just seemed to care less about my situation. read more

Filling out the new patient paperwork took longer than the actual time spent with the doctor. My teenage daughter went to the dermatologist for multiple issues (eczema, acne, and a small cyst) but only one was addressed. An assistant typed in all of my daughter's info, but when the doctor came in she only looked at the cyst and quickly offered to inject it with a steroid. When we tried to ask about treating my daughter's acne (milia on her face), she said (all in one bored, hurried breath) that she could clean them out but it would have to be done as a separate office visit, it would cost $200, and wouldn't be covered under insurance. She had zero "bedside manner" and made us feel like we were bothering her or keeping her from something more important. She was also dismissive of my daughter's eczema--didn't even bother to look at it or offer advice--and said to speak to her primary care doctor about it. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is that the injection seems to have worked on the cyst. We will not be going back to this practice, even if the cyst doesn't completely go away. The treatment was impersonal, like we were in some sort of factory assembly line. read more

Phony calls to people telling them of appointments! When we tried to call to find out what's going on, was put on hold for long time!!!

I arrived at my appointment time with paperwork already completed and checked in. I then proceeded to wait for over an hour to be called. I was greeted by a VERY young girl, who could not have been old enough to be a nurse. She asked me some preliminary questions - didn't know how to pronounce various words, like "psoriasis". She misspelled words that the wrote down for Dr. Barry Silver. Dr. comes in - asks me why I am there. I tell him I have a mole that is of concern. I'm made to pull down the top of my pants to show him the mole on the outside of my left thigh - in front of this VERY young girl, who is just standing against the wall staring at me. IT WAS VERY AWKWARD AND VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. Dr. said the mole was not something to worry about. Then said "is that it?". It was my first appointment there and I assumed it would be a very comprehensive full dermatological evaluation. And I responded, "well, don't you do some kind of body scan of my moles and whatnot? This is my first time here" He said - "If you want me to". I looked at the young girl standing there and thought 'this is just too awkward and uncomfortable' and I stated that to the Dr. I said I felt very awkward with this girl (who could not have been a nurse) standing there and didn't see getting undressed for a full body scan. I told him I waited an hour and a half for this 5 min appointment, and feel extremely uncomfortable and wanted to leave. So, I then walked out. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS GROUP AGAIN -- and highly recommend staying away. I plan to report this to my insurance company - and believe this young girl in the room was not qualified to be in there. Absolutely terrible experience. I will NOT return here. The best part was I didn't wait long at all in the waiting room. I was scheduled for 9:30am. I got there at 9:15 and was taken back to see the doctor by 9:30. I waited for about 5 min before the doctor came in. Once Dr Judy Hu came in she seemed completely disinterested in my issues. I asked her to check a mole on my nose. She took a quick look and diagnosed it. When I asked a question, she seemed annoyed. I asked her to take a look at the psoriasis on my head. She pulled a few stands of my hair back then said she would give me a prescription. I asked my 2 other questions which seemed to bother her even more. Again, she was completely disinterested. I was in with the doctor for approximately 3 minutes total. I asked if I was having a body scan (which I discussed when making the appt), Dr said she would do it in the next appt when she planned on removing a mole on my nose. I really thought everything would happen today. I will not go back to Advanced Dermatology. This doctor really needs a course in interpersonal skills. read more

I've been to this practice numerous times for a skin condition as well as some cosmetic work and all I have to say is the staff is phenomenal. Although there can sometimes be a wait, there's a reason you wait for these doctors and not others. The staff has always been more than willing to accommodate me if I needed to be seen relatively soon and the doctors/physicians assistant were great (I'm pretty sure I've seen every one in the practice). No one ever rushed me and they took the time to answer any questions I may have had. As far as cosmetic work, they will never push something that isn't for you or too over the top. I've gone to the office thinking I may need more Botox or filler in certain places and they will tell me it will not look good and not do it. I HIGHLY respect that they won't just do it and take your money. I saw a comment about not getting a body exam so I asked when I was on the office for the first time because I forgot to ask on the phone. The way it was explained to me was while they do suggest it, it usually takes a little longer than a regular appointment so if that is what you are going in for or would like that in addition to what you are going in for, you should let them know when you schedule the appointment to prevent any confusion/disappointment. I could go on forever. All in all, the office is great. If you want to see a good doctor, make an appointment, bring a book or iPad, and I believe you will be just as satisfied with the services as I was. read more

Do you like waiting a month for a doctor to call you back about a unfilled prescription? Do you like being lied too about employee names just to get you off the phone quicker? Well look no further because Advanced Dermatology has got to be the worst medical facility I have ever gone too. Sure, I could tell you about how a routine prescription took over 12 phone calls, 8 messages, and over a month to fill (Still not filled a month+ later), or how the receptionist was caught making up fake names of medical assistants (When I asked for a last name for my records she told me off and hung up and when I called back I was told that there was no person by the name I was given), but why not experience the worst place for yourself and see if you can beat my high score of incompetence?! I really wish I listened to the vast majority of 1 star reviews, It would have saved me so much time, money and effort. If you are reading this, I am genuinely concerned one of you with an actual medical issue will come here and just be ignored and have the issue get worse. At least the only good out of coming here was to be able to warn you all not to make the same mistake I did. Remember, AVOID AT ALL COSTS PLEASE! read more
