Please consider the following about the negative reviews on this page. 1. The credit card policy is completely reasonable and I've had to do this at many doctors offices. They shouldn't miss out on a patient because people can keep their schedules straight and a monetary deduction keeps people in line. 2. Some of the more cosmetic procedures can be costly but their cosmetic procedures.... if your insurance doesn't cover your visit here - choose someone else in-network - this isn't Bergen Dermatology's problem! I've been seeing Dr. Boakye for a number of years, since she was at her old location and now at the new location. She is a wonderful, kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable dermatologist and the only person I now trust with my skincare. I suffer from hormonal acne and had told her from the beginning I do not want to go on Accutane. She has been so supportive of my decisions with my approach to my problem (changes in diet and lifestyle, supplements, topicals, medications, birth control) and patient with all the crazy I throw at her. She's a saint. Her staff is also incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind. I enjoy every visit I have here because they are so polite and nice to chat with while waiting for the doctor. I recently participated in a microneedling study with Dr. Boakye which she recommended me for because of my upcoming wedding. She was so kind and generous to think of me and truly helped me discover a procedure that has absolutely improved the texture of my skin and scarring I've had because of acne. Dr. B is amazing. She is professional, cares about her patients, and is so kind. She will listen to all of your concerns, and come up with the best, and most personalized solution for you. GOOD skin care is not cheap ANYWHERE, but she does her best to make sure that you feel comfortable and is extremely honest. I went to see Dr. Boakye today for an acne consult. She is attentive, thorough, and easy to talk to; she also took time to explain her recommendations to me and wasn't dismissive when I asked her questions and explained concerns. I will never go to another dermatologist. Dr. Boakye is the best. I have seen 5 other dermatologist and paid a ton of money to an esthetician only to see my skin issue get worse. I finally decided to make an appointment to see Dr. Boakye and wait it out (had to wait a few weeks) and I am so happy I did. The first appointment she diagnosed my issues, prescribed medications (both cost less than $100 total), reviewed what I was using over the counter to determine what to keep/ get rid of, and even gave me an idea on how long it would take to clear up. She was spot on with everything. My face cleared up within the time she predicted and a year later I haven't had the issue reoccur. I've been a patient of Dr. Boakye for over a year and she is amazing! I have eczema and hyperpigmentation and both worsen as the weather changes. My first visit with Dr. Boayke she immediately diagnosed that I had dermatitis on my face and treated it. Her staff is always very professional and courteous and I've never had any complaints. As for those that complain about pricing, I've yet to go to any dermatologist that wasn't pricey the difference is will my problem be solved in one visit and does the doctor take the time to explain my symptoms and comprises a treatment plan that we both can agree with. Dr. Boakye does all that and more. The fact that she also sells products that she believes in makes me want to purchase them even more. As a professional woman it's important that I take care of my skin and I'm glad I have someone like Dr. Boakye to guide me! read more

I am glad that I did not listen to the negative reviews. I searched for a good dermatologist since my guy who I used to go to for years moved to South Jersey. I did many Google searches and came across Dr. Boakye Dr. Boakye's staff is very professional. I started going to the practice at their old location. I'm glad to see that they've moved on into a brighter space. The doctor takes her time and gets the diagnosis right. I find it fairly easy to get an appointment and I also like that Bergen Derm is now on ZocDoc. I find ZocDoc very convenient. I have to see Dr. Boakye again as I have a skin disorder that can have flare ups when the season changes. I am glad that I found Dr. Boakye and whenever anyone asks about a derm, I give them her practice. PS: For those complaints about the practice securing your credit card info, this is not the only doctor who does this. Have you visited Quest Labs? Quest does the same thing and they are a major corporation. Rent is high and insurance is high not just for patients but for doctors as well. If you can't pay the whole thing in one shot, I say with your credit card on file, make a few pay arrangements and tell the staff what day to take the payment out. I do this at my dentist all the time. No one can stay in business for free if patients bills are not paid. read more

PROS: 1) Friendly courteous staff. 2) Clean office. CONS: 1) Many forms and waivers to sign. This includes a questionable agreement with a 3rd party mail order pharmacy to process your prescriptions, and credit card authorization forms as stated in another review. No, this is not common by the way. 2) Doctor is very busy, and doesn't spend much time answering medical questions or offering advise. 3) Most importantly, if you require excisions that require stitching (cancer biopsy) please strongly consider someone else with better skills or get a second opinion. You must sign yet another waiver, and the terrible scarring and pain still evident after many months truly upsets me every day. In my opinion Dr. Boakye is more of a cosmetician for profit than a medical doctor. If you have a cosmetic issue, there appears to be plenty of good reviews. She even sent out an email recently promoting her and her sisters' new line of cosmetics available at Bloomingdales. But if you have a real medical issue, please consider looking elsewhere. read more

I would not waste your time or money here. The staff is horrible. I went into to see a doctor about a spot on my chest only to be told they could do nothing because I was pregnant. (for the record I told the receptionist I was pregnant when booking the appointment) The doctor told me to come back in Oct after baby and she would look at it then. They submitted a $225 bill for a 5 min visit which they did nothing and no answers for me about what it was. When I called to question why my insurance did not cover the whole visit 100% since I have no co-pay with in network insurance and my deductable was not an issue the woman on the phone got literally loud with me. She kept raising her voice and cutting me off. I had to hold the phone away from my ear because her voice was getting so loud. When I asked her if she could lower her voice and speak to me it only got worse with more attitude. Needless to say I choose to cancel my follow up appointment. If you would like to be treated with respect and dignity do not go here. If you would like a sound professional advise do not go here. If you would like a doctor who cares about you and not the amount of money they can bill don't go here. read more

The dermatologists here are great! I have had adult acne for more than 20 years and have seen many dermatologists. Dr. Boakye and Dr. Osei-Tutu go the extra mile and really helped by educating me on how to care for my skin. I use a combination of Duac Gel and Tretinoin and it's really been a face-saver! I also learned that Tretinoin cream has wrinkle smoothing effect (don't quote me on it - i just know it's good for wrinkles). read more

Its interesting to read many of the ratings/comments that were posted. I can understand a patients frustration with cost, and releasing your credit card information, but I also respect policies that are put into place. Often you have to question why the policy was put into place. Any whom, my experience at Bergen Dermatology has been a pleasant one thus far. Its a very clean and chic establishment with posh decor. The receptionist has always been super friendly and so has the other staff members. Dr. Boakye takes her time to explains and educate me on, whereas other offices spent minimal time explaining prior to doing any procedures. HIPPA has been Breached. If there were a Zero. That would be my rating, I went in August 1, 2018. I had been there previously but this time the staff was Unprofessional, Irresponsible and Horrible. I was prescribed prescription. I ask the woman if I could have my script. She says "I'll call it in. Which pharmacy?" I answer "Acme in Weehawken." I went to pick nothing. I call the office Saturday the 4th spoke with the Dr. She says I'll get back to you...nothing. August 8th I called she answers. The entire staff from Dr to manager and staff "LIED" says the script was sent to Edgewater. I said Edgewater. The prescription Was Never Ever Called In. All Acme Pharmacies cross reference. I get a text whenever a script is ready for pick up. To this date no apology still No Prescription Called In. Unprofessional and Irresponsible. I've previously worked for 2 physicians. I would have been reprimanded or fired. read more

Let me tell you. This place is GREAT. It was my first time at Bergen Dermatology, and I've only been to the dermatologist once or twice in my life, so I wasn't entirely certain what to expect. I saw Dr. Osei-Tutu and she was absolutely delightful. She was straightforward, informative, and funny. She sat and listened to my concerns and I didn't feel rushed or pressured to speak quickly at all (you know that feeling some doctors give you, the "talk fast so I can get to my next patient" feeling). Thinking about it, it felt like one of the few times that I've ever experienced a doctor who genuinely cared about me, my situation, and fitting a healthy (skin) regimen into MY lifestyle. Seriously, folks, if you need a dermatologist, this is the place. I cannot recommend it highly enough. And also, I'd like to thank the earlier yelpers - - they're the reason I ended up at Bergen Dermatology rather than elsewhere... thanks guys!! read more

Was there a few weeks ago for me and my two children. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. The visit for three of us had took less than 10 minutes. The doctor seemed to be very arrogant, disengaged and aloof. It seems she has difficulty connecting with patients. I will never go back again. read more

I am so disappointed in their customer service. I was really eager to work with a dermatologist that specializes in ethnic skin. In my 3 visits, I was unsure of Dr. Boakye bedside manner. I just never felt great leaving the office. However, she received such great reviews, so, I thought I would tough it out and maybe I was just being sensitive. After the office informed me that they were no longer accepting insurance, I took that as my cue to not return. I wish the story ended there.... Unfortunately No! At my last visit the receptionist charged me $10 less than my actual co-pay. I was unaware, I just handed my card and let them charge whatever amount I owe. 4 months later I get an email and bill saying I owe them $10. Which is fine, I'll pay the $10...no big deal but my issue is that I never received a phone call explaining and apologizing for the situation. I am not in charge of processing payments so this is totally an error on their part. To top it off they went ahead and charged the card on file without my authorization. I contemplated even writing this review because its $10, an insignificant amount. However, its the principle and the lack of customer service that is really bothering me. As an avid review reader, I think that it is important to alert others that might be considering this practice. read more

My first visit to Bergen Dermatology proved to be a very positive experience. I was immediately impressed by the atmosphere of the office and the friendliness and courtesy of the staff. But the best was yet to come.. in the form of Dr. Osey-Tutu! The rapport we had was immediate, thanks to her warm, friendly, yet professional demeanor. Her examination was thorough, while she explained what she was doing, put my mind at ease about my concerns, and educated me on caring for my skin. After seeing near perfect reviews on Yelp and ZocDoc for Dr. Boakye, I was looking forward to my appointment with her. The staff was very helpful and welcoming however I was left really disappointed by the doctor herself. I didn't spend more than 3 minutes with her and none of my concerns were addressed. The office seemed backed up on appointments so I understand the rush, however, I do not think quality should be sacrificed in the name of time ESPECIALLY in healthcare. The few minutes we spent together felt like a sales pitch to me rather than a consultation. I am a healthcare provider myself and I was shocked to see a doctor spend less than 5 minutes with a patient and whip out 3 unnecessary prescriptions, sending the patient on their way. Reluctantly, I decided to give Dr. Boakye's treatment plan a chance trusting that maybe she knew something I didn't about my condition. I began using the topicals she prescribed me in the exact regimen her nurse printed out for me. Within 2 days of following her instructions, I had severe side effects of all of the medications combined. My skin was turning yellow, drying out, cracking, getting puffy, and had leathery patches. After doing my own literature research, I was able to see that these were normal side effects of the medications prescribed however, I was extremely disappointed in Dr. Boakye's inability to inform me of the risks associated with these medications and their interactions. All of these side effects were far more serious than the original condition I went to Dr. Boakye for and I would have hoped that the doctor herself realized this. Overall, I will be spending the next 4-6 weeks restoring my skin back to it's previous condition before starting again at square one for my initial concern. I'm very disappointed in the doctor's ability to place a sales call/medication pitch above what is best for the patient. read more

I have been to Bergen Dermatology a couple of times and it has always been a good experience. The doctors are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. The office is clean, bright, and modern. Even though I live in NYC, I'm willing to go across the river for a good doctor. Their location in Northern NJ is just a few minutes from the George Washington Bridge so it's really easy to get to. I've referred friends who love the practice as well. I saw Dr. Boakye for the first time last week. It is always very nerve racking to see a new doctor, not knowing what the outcome will be. She was very attentive which is important to me! Her staff remained professional (also very important to me). Dr. Boakye, of course knew what she was doing.. she listened well, she spoke to me and did not rush the visit. She gave her diagnosis and prescribed accordingly with care. I go to Yelp before going to any doctor and I question the negative reviews that were written for BD, more so the people who wrote them! I had such a positive experience with Dr. Boakye, it seemed that she actually cared about my concerns (acne and fine lines) and her prices were what you would expect of a good dr in the greater New York area/Bergen county. My xeomin (botox) looks perfect and i'll be back in 4 months or whenever I need for my next treatment. Since then I have sent two friends who both had positive experiences. Called to schedule an appointment. Felicia answered the phone and I asked if the office participated in-network with my insurance company. I stated the insurance company name and you could have sworn I asked her to paint my house! She struggled to get the answer out. I then told her I wanted to set up a first time appointment and she told me to hold on. A few minutes later someone else picked up the phone and proceeded to tell me their office policy is to keep a copy of my credit card on file in case there are any missed appointments or if there is an insurance deductible. I told her since the office is an in-network provider with my insurance company that was irrelevant. Asked her if I did not want a copy of my credit card kept in my file would I still be able to make an appointment. She said at the time of my appointment I would be required to bring in a $100 cash deposit in lieu of a copy of my credit card. I said the office policy is bizarre and quickly hung up the phone. read more
