Very disappointed with my experience today. I had an 11:15 AM appointment and arrived around 11:00 AM. I completed the initial testing and around 11:30 AM I was left sitting alone waiting for approximately 30-35 minutes. I asked an employee for assistance and was eventually placed in a room, where I was left waiting again for another 15+ minutes. I ultimately left around 12:15 PM without receiving the care I came in for. I understand offices can get busy, but there were very few patients and I felt like I was simply forgotten about. My time was completely wasted, especially because I genuinely needed this appointment to get my glasses. I had a very disappointing experience at Advanced Eye Care Associates, and unfortunately this was not an isolated incident for my family. I originally went in for a scheduled appointment and was told at the front desk that my appointment had already been canceled. I had not canceled it, and I hadn't even opened the email they claimed was used to make changes. Despite explaining this calmly, the staff kept insisting that I must have canceled it without realizing. Instead of trying to figure out what went wrong or offering a solution, I felt like I was being blamed. The receptionist then called in a manager, Celeste, to assist. That interaction only made things worse. Her body language was dismissive, and her tone came across as rude rather than helpful. On top of that, the receptionist who initially helped me was laughing during the situation, which felt extremely disrespectful. I remained calm and respectful the entire time. What makes this more concerning is that a similar issue happened to my brother. He was also told his appointment had been canceled, and my dad described the staff as extremely rude during his experience as well. When the same situation happens more than once within the same family, it feels like there may be a bigger issue with either their scheduling system or how patients are treated. After this, I rescheduled my appointment. They told me I would receive two confirmation calls, and I specifically gave them my personal phone number instead of my parents' to avoid confusion. I asked what would happen if I couldn't pick up the confirmation call, since I hadn't even opened the previous email and didn't want my appointment to be canceled again. I also asked if I could simply confirm the appointment right then and there in person. I was told no. When I asked what would happen if I missed the call and whether it would be canceled, the staff member raised her voice and firmly said "NO! Just come in at 6:30," even though my appointment was scheduled for 6:40. She said I needed to come earlier because they had to dilate my eyes and they close early. The tone and raised voice were completely unnecessary. I was simply asking a question to avoid another misunderstanding. Scheduling issues can happen anywhere, but how staff handle them makes all the difference. Patients deserve to be treated with patience and respect, especially when they are trying to clarify policies and avoid confusion. Be careful with this place- nightmare service !, they make mistakes and then treat customers like criminals! first, they prescribed the wrong lenses, then the expensive $500 glasses broke. one of their managers promised to get them replaced. I waited two months and now, the other manager says they are discontinued and that I need to buy a brand new set because the other manager was wrong. apparently their designer glasses only last 12 months and mine were 15 months old!!! I recently moved so I left this practice. It was an OK experience. I believe I visited 3 times over 3 years. I loved visiting with Dr. Monserrat Arias. She was friendly, helpful, and very thorough. The front staff was less friendly. They are often very busy and unable to attend to customers in a timely fashion. I also found that the Optical Shop tried to oversell me on several items not covered by insurance. On occasion i have had to wait a bit, but good care is worth waiting for. i don't live as close as I used to when I first started there, but i would not consider changing. i have to drive the 6/10 connector to get there! The physicians in this practice are personable and professional. The receptionists and "office staff" are generally miserable to work with. You need to suck up to them to achieve a basic acknowledgment, they have apparently not become acquainted with a calendar or "planner," but they are adept at over-billing. I really have tried to work with them and tried to empathize with their challenges, but I think the central organization of which this location is a franchise would do well to replace the office top to bottom with an answering and an adding machine, and a primary school student looking to earn a few dollars an hour. I had a discrepancy with my vision insurance and had to speak with 5 or so people. After I figured out what the problem was and gave them the correct information, the front desk associate found it but called their manager for the manager to still decline me and say that the only insurance they "found" was one that I expressly told them was not my current and active insurance and I had no idea where that information came from. There was miscommunication throughout the whole ordeal and they didn't seem to want to help me work the situation out or even continue with my appointment . They turned me away and told me to figure it out. I also brought my sibling who was told to have a seat and their name would be called without having actually been checked-in and waited 15 minutes after being on time. On January 18, I headed to their office in Providence for an appointment at 4:30 pm, I was late ten to twelve minutes due to traffic on 95 and the doctor refused to see. The front desk person was very kind and pleasant and explained that she was aware that I was there within the tolerance of fifteen minutes but could not do anything since the doctor had refused to see me. I'm torn about how to rate this practice... I've been a patient for nearly 20 years and have seen 4-5 different doctors. I believe that the eye exams are thorough and comprehensive; they use many automated tests that provide printed results meaning year over year comparison of things like pressure or cataracts are closely checked. The technical part of eye care has always been done well. Still, the office staff can be slow, disengaged, and occasionally rude to patients. You will never wait less than 10 minutes in line, even if you're the only one in line. If you present both a health insurance card and a vision plan they first submit the claim to your health plan, and charge you a copay up front when all other "health care" providers will coordinate coverage and bill both plans first to help the patient avoid out of pocket costs as much as possible. If you say they can text you when glasses are ready you will be aggressively texted - like 3 times for one appointment. Your doctor rarely hands you a prescription, but walks you to the attached optical shop (not sure if it's owned by the doctors or independent) and hands your file directly to the staff there. You have to wait again and be called to be served. I was also told I'd been overcharged for lenses for my last pair of eyeglasses and had a $50 credit this year - which no one told me about or offered to refund at any point last year!! The optical shop has many frames on display - but few of them are stylish. Service here too is slow and inconsistent. For glasses, LensCrafters always finds me something nicer than I find here; they don't accept the vision insurance I signed up for though. And, if I want a written prescription to take to LensCrafters? Wait in line again! read more

This office is completely disorganized. When I arrived for my first appointment, I was told that their web booking service wasn't working and I'd need to submit a request for another appointment. The next appoint wasn't for another month. Then they even tried to push me onto another Dr than I had scheduled. Every subsequent appointment I had to wait up to 15 minutes in line to even check in. I was even told once, that I was 10 minutes late (after waiting for the front staff to check me in) and they weren't sure I could be seen. Dr Doyle came highly recommended for specialized care related to radial keratonomy. He is the best Optometrist I've ever encountered - and I have somewhat complicated vision. I paid for a course of care specifically with Optometrist Dr Matthew Doyle. Shortly after starting this program, Dr Doyle gave his notice to move to another office. AECA immediately removed him. Because no one at this office could even offer me the specialized eye care I required, I follower Dr Doyle to his new practice. AECA refused to reimburse me for the care not yet performed in the amount of $2,500. They will treat you poorly and they will take your money. It's a win-win for them, but a lose-lose for you. read more

The reviews are accurate... the doctors/ optometrists are good, courteous, the equipment is modern. The experience of getting in or out the door is like a third world DMV. Long, long, mysterious waits - even when you're at the front of the line it may take them 10 minutes to refill the printer paper to print your invoice - at times they seem to be on break at their desks and won't make eye contact. They're often nice though if you open the conversation with sympathy for how overworked they are. Considering their volume of business, why do they not hire more front staff? A mystery. The glasses store is awful. You have to wait in a *separate* line just to get in. Then they ignore you. BE CAREFUL, this practice is horrible. They are big time scamming the patients and coding your visits as "Medical" for an Annual Eye Exam that should be covered by your Vision Plan. By coding it as medical it will go through your health insurance and not be covered through your Vision Plan. They are purposely doing this. I called them out on this, since this is the 2nd time they have tried to do this to myself and husband. Be aware of this and if possible, go to another Eye Doctors or Practice. I did not have my eye exam there but I did buy my most recent pair of eyeglasses there. Since Luxxotica has formed a monopoly of eyewear, lenses, sunglasses etc. the price my eyeglasses have skyrocketed. I spend months trying to find eyewear that looks good and is affordable. Usually I stick to Gucci frames because they are not owned by Luxxotica and still a complete set usually costs me over $800 (very complex prescription). I found a great frame here that I never heard of Bon Vivant, and my total came to $645. It sounds like a lot but it really isn't when you consider all of the things I need for my prescription. When I arrived I was told only one pair was ready and to expect a call when the second pair would be ready. Never received that call, I had to leave multiple messages without response. Had to get the office manager involved, new ordered needed to be placed, glasses was not ready for pick up until July! Now in October I'm receiving a bill for almost $300. They called the police on a customer, and all he was doing was voicing his opinion. I was in there picking out glasses, when another costumer and I got into a discussion about their cost, the markup, how long they last, etc. An employee from the back overheard the conversation and started arguing with the guy. It got into a point where they started comparing who had more experience in retail. It escalated. The employee was not taking it well, so he called the police. Why the employee felt he needed to engage/argue with the customer and make matters worse is beyond me. He should have just stayed in the back and kept quiet. Extremely unprofessional. Nothing but good things to say here. My physician is fabulous, young, attentive (attractive helps too) and always ready for the job. At times the location can be a little busy, over booked and not timely. What I have found during the pandemic is that there is never many people in the office waiting to see a physician. That means that the Physicians can take the patient at their scheduled time immediately and not have Interruption throughout. It also makes it easier to get into the optical center, to look at glasses and pick what you need. The front-end staff is always friendly, and very efficient at what they do. I find the location to be clean and tidy, always vacuumed, always alcohol wipes available, and constantly wiping things down. I truly have no complaints. read more

She was super knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, and got me in and out with no stress and minimal waiting. Eye exam was thorough, and she taught me about cataracts and glaucoma. Thanks! She never once tried to "sell me" any frames or up-sell me on any other services. I had a written prescription in my hand before anyone tried to sell me anything else. They do have a COVID policy where you call when you're there, and you wait in the car until they are ready for you, and they call you back and let you in. I love that! Who wants to wait in a waiting room nowadays? They call you when they are ready, and they take you right in. They sanitize everything, and everything was properly distanced. At least 4 females were gossiping (about patients?!) and ignoring the line of 3 people waiting to check in for their appointments. Was finally called into exam room with Dr. Corrow, I'm not sure which one. He didn't introduce himself, and was surly and rude, at best. Horrible bedside manner, if you can even call it that. I had to wait for the doctor for a while, I was confused why the assistant was helping me and not the doctor. And I was confused about why they dilated my eyes before the exam obv I won't be able to see shit, are you even supposed to put contact lenses when eyes are dilated bc in my previous experience I don't remember wearing contacts or not getting my eye dilated until after the exam. The doctor seemed nice but didn't talk much or explain anything why my vision for contacts should be different, and felt weird when my dilated but after trying the contacts again after the dilation drops wore off they were good. Then when I wanted to order more contacts, he like gave me a look and was confused. But then had me go to the receptionist to help me, it looks like they didn't even do their jobs with the insurance part because they had the wrong vision insurance in the system and I updated it in the system earlier and she didn't want to help me when I COULDN'T SEE to order the contacts and call my insurance for her to prove that I don't need the member ID for my insurance just the last four of social and my name and I explained to her that too even when I called them they said the same thing she insisted I call them even though I couldn't see shit, and I said you know what I'm just going to do this later on my own time, and she's like oh yeah and theirs a contact rep. What an impressive improvement -- way to listen to your customers, Advanced Eye Care! I'm not exactly sure what happened, but in addition to completely reworking the front-of-house staff, they have a slew of additional doctors here, too. The optometrist's shop has expanded and moved to the south side, and in its place is a much larger waiting area. I found the front desk staff to be helpful and friendly, and my wait was minimal. Upon entering the exam room, a medical assistant went through the usual process and left noted for my eye doctor. When he came in, he had the info he needed to proceed and accomplish everything within the 15-minute time slot for my appointment. Like I said, a vast improvement and definitely worth staying for. I have never been refused an eye exam because I wouldn't do the dilated portion. I was told that it is a legal precedent (however that is TOTAL bs). I unexpectedly ran out of contacts this week, and just needed a new prescription; one does NOT need a dilated exam every time you see an eye doctor. I have been to multiple eye doctors in different cities and they are OK with me saying that I get my eyes dilated elsewhere (I see a neuro-ophthalmologist who doesn't do prescriptions but does dilate eyes). It's a sunny day, I walked, and you (appropriately) aren't having people sit in the waiting room due to COVID. I do give it an extra star because when I called an explained my situation, the person/secretary at the front desk got me an appointment quickly and everyone there (besides the doctor) was extremely friendly! It does seem like a sort of toxic work environment, in that the (very nice) man who was seeing me before the doctor was forced to be the go-between between the doctor and myself- the doctor wouldn't come talk to me himself until the end. Very unprofessional, especially since I could hear their entire conversation and then the assistant person would come in and relay it. read more

I did not even make it inside this establishment for my first visit. My appointment was at 3:30, I arrived at 3:20. I was greeted by a "stop sign" at the front door, several people were waiting outside in the heat. I waited for almost 40 minutes while representatives came in and out of the door handing out glasses and taking patients inside. Finally, I called to ensure I had the correct date/time for my appointment, I did. The operator the informed me I was supposed to call and wait in the car. I reminded her that I had been standing at the front door, in clear view of employees inside, and that no one had even asked if I needed assistance or why I was there. The operator asked me if I wanted to reschedule, I told her absolutely not. The virus is not an excuse for poor customer service.
