A car crashed into our fence in February during the very cold period with heavy snow. Todd came out to give an estimate with over 2 feet of snow on the ground and as a result he was unable to properly evaluate the work that needed to be done. When the crew arrived they came ready to replace 1 post and put the panels that were damaged back up without replacing the broken parts of the panel (which turned out to be a complete new panel - 3 of them actually). My wife and I greeted the crew and they were frustrated because of the miscommunication and lack of communication. They were eventually turned away after much discussion and before they were turned away, they asked if there was other work they could do because they would not be paid if they did not work. While I emphasized for them and their natural desire to earn an income, this was not our problem. So after all the snow melted, it was determined that much more work needed to be done than what was initially thought of. We requested that one of the panels have hinges so we can remove it for easier access to our garden off the alley. The crew did a great job completing the work and when we tried to remove the panel we were not able to. We have waited and tried at different times and still not able to remove the panel. It is wedged in the posts and will not pull out. I sent Todd and email and his response was that his company no longer services Chicago because they are based out of Mt. Prospect. I guess there is no warranty or guarantee with their work based on this response. Overall, very disappointed with the lack of completing a quality job and doing it right the first time. I suppose now as well, my wife and I will need to contact another company to fix Advanced Fence and Gate's errors. read more

We just used Advanced Fence & Gate to install a 100 foot wide, 6 foot tall traditional fence including the highly recommended steel posts (which are covered with wood panel so you don't see them). We also got new French gothic gates installed. We had quotes from 4 companies - Todd was the most competitive AND most professional during the initial assessment and quote period. Scheduling our installation was really easy and we were able to get the dates we wanted well in advance because we obtained a permit quickly. On the first day of installation, we had two gentlemen who were very friendly, professional and helpful. They walked along the backyard with me reviewing our plat, finding our property lines and reviewing where JULIE marked cable and ComEd flags. They were very careful and precise in installing the posts. They spent a lot of time with me reviewing the level of the fence and we decided to do one level fence line sloping from north to south end, closely following the grade of our property. They returned one day later and installed the panels and gates in probably 4-5 hours and the finished product was terrific. During the two days, I had to call Todd probably 5-6 times to ask him a few questions both seeking guidance on the level, distance from our neighbor's fence and how to make sure we were following our town's codes. He was so courteous and patient every single time - he never made me feel like i was bothering him with my calls. Contract work around a home is never flawless but I have to say working with Advance Fence & Gates seems to have come pretty close. I just can't think of anything that bothered us or concerned us. Terrible service Salesman came out on Tuesday May 8th. I didn't receive the quote until Friday, May 11th. The next day , Saturday May 12th , I received an email telling me that I have to make a decision on a job that costs over $5000 within two days ( by Monday, May 14th ) otherwise the price for materials will go up by 6%! That's ridiculous. None of the other reputable fence companies I received quotes from did this. Even though they're dealing with the similar increases (tariffs) they all honored their quote for at least one week, thereby giving me -- the customer--enough time ( i.e. more than 48 hours) to make a responsible decision. read more

The final product, 400 feet of vinyl fence, is beautiful and very functional. But getting there was painful. I understand rain can wreck havoc with outdoor work, but it was impossible to find out when their crew was going to be here. They actually showed up on a Sunday morning. I had agreed to go to lunch with a friend. A bunch of stuff went wrong while I was gone. The crew was gone when I returned, so I was unable to correct anything while they were there. The salesman came out the next day and agreed to correct most of the issues, but oddly refused to correct the gate which was so crooked, I was embarrassed by it. I had to tell him that I wouldn't pay the final payment until it was corrected. The crew also failed to turn off the water spigot, which I didn't discover for 2 days. There were other problems but these 2 were the worst. If you hire them be prepared to ride herd on them. read more

AFG completed a fence replacement and expansion project using vinyl covered residential chainlink fence. Estimate matched final job price. Crew showed up on time. There was a wrong-sized gate delivered but it was fixed and installed in two weeks. I am very satisfied with the quality of their installation. In a half star system, I would probably give them 4.5 stars because of the gate snafu and some yard waste debris removed as part of installation that was not hauled away. I would not recommend this company-they were one of three companies that gave me proposals for a fence--after comparing they were significantly less than the others for the same product and installation. I discussed their excellent pricing with the owners father-in-law who was the sales rep--he said he had reviewed the quote with the owner and it was correct. I signed off and remitted a 50% deposit to them. Next they informed me that they made an error and the price was going to be $2500 more than quoted and agreed upon. So unprofessional and in fact they were now more than the other company that quoted the project. They responded quickly to give us an estimate for the work. Their estimate was significantly less than most of the others I received. We were building a little bit fancier fence than was standard so I asked for references and examples of their work. Everyone I spoke with loved this company. All the work I went and looked at was of extremely high quality. We contracted with them. They got us on the schedule within a few days as our fence was in extremely bad shape. They arrived early, They removed the old fence and set the posts day one. The completed the fence including the oversize entry door on day two. The quality of the workmanship is excellent. They left a very clean work area when they were finished. Advanced Fence and Gate exceeded all of my expectations. I had gotten a couple of quotes from other fence companies to put up a fence in front of my side yard and while the prices were roughly the same, the level of service was completely different. Todd was extremely easy to work with and discussed fencing options with us that the other companies didn't. He even offered the option of a commercial grade fence which no other company I spoke with did. Going with the commercial grade aluminum fence turned out to be a great choice because it looks fantastic and even sturdier than the residential fence (which already looks pretty sturdy). It may not be for everyone due to the higher price, but it was worth it to me. As for the actual install, there were some complications due to Lincolnwood's inspector not liking the location where the fence was being installed. He wanted the post holes dug 3 feet farther back from the front of the house and the fence put up there. Since they had already dug holes, this means they had to do almost double the work, but they handled it gracefully and dug the new holes without complaint. And in fact, the new location looks even better than the originally planned location so I am extremely pleased. The installers managed to do a remarkable job cleaning up after themselves despite the rain coming down and causing everything to be muddy. They even spread the excess dirt along the back fence in my alley in a way that made it look better than it previously did. Thank you Advanced Fence and Gate for a job well done! read more

My fence looked very nice. Last summer I heard creaking. The installers didn't set one of the posts in concrete and just cut it off at ground level instead of digging up the old concrete from the previous fence. Two panels are pulling apart and will probably fall apart this summer. read more

First, unlike some other companies, in preparing an estimate, they reached out to the municipality to figure out what height fences were permitted, etc. Second, the fence was installed perfectly straight and level, showing impressive attention to detail. Any issue that they encountered the foreman made it seem like a showstopper and he looked to us as owners to come up with work around options (which to me is part of their job). Wow did I have a great experience by using Advanced Fence! I had gotten 6 quotes for fences when my friend recommended Advanced Fence. I'm not usually a 6 quote person, but none of the people that came out to my house to give me an estimate left me with a feeling of confidence. Plus the numbers were all over the board. So I went to the Advanced Fence website and used the tool they had (which no one else had) where you can upload your survey and get a ballpark estimate. The tool worked. So then Todd came out to my house to do a written estimate and he was very knowledgeable and straightforward. I wanted to work with him and as it turned out, his price was lower than all the others. The process was very easy. He emailed me everything I needed to get my fence permit. He immediately returned emails and calls. He squeezed me in to do the installation right before the winter deep freeze which was great because I wanted to let my dog out by himself over the cold winter, the whole point of getting the fence. Then over the summer, the fence was damaged by a car. I reached out to Todd and he came out quickly and inspected it, gave me an estimate for repairs, which was reasonably priced, and got a crew out to fix right away. They came out about 5 years ago to put in a fence. Last year about 5 posts broke in a wind storm. 50 mph winds. A very hefty charge to repair, and less than a year later 2 come down in another windstorm. No warranty and no discount to repair. I understand wind can do damage, but not a single neighbors fences are down. Wont be using them again. read more
