Rather than accepting every project, she carefully evaluated each dress and agreed to work on only two. She explained that while the other two dresses could technically be altered, the fabric and fit would make it difficult to achieve a result that met her quality standards. I greatly appreciated her honesty and professionalism. Many businesses would have accepted all four dresses, but Tina was focused on delivering work she could confidently stand behind. Her transparency and commitment to quality immediately gave me confidence in her expertise. During my first visit to Tina, I brought both my dresses to try on to assess the alterations that I needed done (mostly hemming). She provided a quote at that time, and stated that payment could be made at pick-up. I found her pricing to be very reasonable given the complexity of the dresses (material and multiple layers). The two dresses she altered turned out beautifully. The craftsmanship was excellent, and the fit was exactly what I wanted. The turnaround time was about two weeks from drop-off to pickup, which I found very reasonable (especially since I had told Tina there was no rush). She clearly takes pride in her work and pays close attention to the details that make a difference. One thing to note is that English is her second language and Mandarin is her first, so there can be a bit of a language barrier. If you speak Mandarin, communication will likely be even smoother. She custom re-made the entire bodice, including redoing the complicated pleating, to make sure it fit my body, and the dress ended up fitting like an absolute glove. And I guess that should have been my first clue. I proceeded anyways. There were other things that the dress needed fixing which she finally says "let me get this guy that works with me, he knows about dresses " (in Spanish). So he comes over seemed like he knew what he was doing. Placed the needles where it needed fixing. They told me the dress would be ready 15-20 days. I call her on the 20th day to get a status. To which she replies "you don't need it until Oct 10, so we didn't start it". I was shocked and told her "you said it would be ready". She responds and says I'll let him know you need the dress urgently". She then proceeds to say the dress will be ready the following week for pick up if she doesn't reach out, I am good to go. Of course the dress wasn't ready. She then gives the guy my phone number to which he starts messaging me somewhat updates. He then asks me to go and do a fitting. Which I went and he had it unsown and didn't look like anything had been done. He puts the new needles in place. Says it will be done by that Thursday. And again, it wasn't ready. He told me to pick it up that Saturday. That Saturday I realized there was a parade on Mission and told him I wasn't going to go which he understood and said he would be there the following day (sunday) 10-1pm. I arrive Sunday at 9:45am. I text him before going and he says I will be there in 45min. My mom and I decide to go eat instead. When we return he still was not done with the stitching. I try it on again, he makes the same comment from the previous fitting that I gained weight even though he loosened it up. Which he he just didn't fix it. I take the dress home because I was over it at that point. I saw that he sowed the dress versus running it through the sowing machine, he folded the excess fabric rather than cutting it. Needless to say I would not recommend this location. She claims she can make alterations for wedding and quinceñera dresses which is far from the truth. It was of course cheap- but you get what you pay for.
