Dress alterations: Made an appointment online a week in advance. Walked in and within 30 seconds Josh had introduced himself and told me to go ahead and try on my wedding dress. Within a minute, he was already taking notes of improvements and alternations to be made, even many I didn't consider. In and out within 20 minutes with a plan to pick up in a month. Only $330 for bodice adjustments, hemming, adding slip adjustments, and a wrist strap. When I picked it up about 4 weeks later, it was absolutely perfect. My search for a trustworthy tailor came down to two options--one in the east bay and one on in the city. My criteria's outside of skill was also communication. Here is how I landed on picking Josh over my other comparable option. First, customer service. My initial call with Josh's was met with patience and professionalism. The person who answered my call helped me understand what I'm trying to get done, how long it would take and a good estimate of how much it would cost. On top of that they answered me on the first call. I couldn't say the same about my other options. Second, service. Josh's website makes it easy to book an appointment. I went on, booked a 20 min consultation and arrived to my appointment. I want to say thank you to Josh for being patient because I arrived ten minutes late due to coming from the east bay and he still gave me the time and care he normally would if I came on time. Josh knew exactly what had to be done before I even told him anything. He just looked at me and started pinning things up--I was very impressed. He gave me his honest feedback and allowed me to pick the best option possible for my needs without being pushy about additional alterations/alteration methods. I felt like I was in very good hands. Last but not least, the work. Josh's is only open on Saturdays and closed Sundays--so I had to pick up my suit before work at 8 AM. I tried on my suit just in case I needed additional work and it fit like a glove. I felt ready like I was going to a red carpet event and you can tell how well he did from my photo. Everything fitted perfectly and I left extremely satisfied. The cost was also very reasonable for adjustments on both my blazer and pants--it came down to $200 cash flat and finish time was less than the estimated 2 weeks. So if you're looking for someone to get you ready for that special event in your life, I highly recommend heading over to Josh's. The staff is clearly a talented group and their prices are fair. Even though Union Sq isn't the most convenient spot for me, it's worth going a bit further for the kind of service provided. For me, Josh and his team are a reliable place to bring any dress I have that requires tailoring or hemming. They will ask you to try your item on upon drop off and will pin the item to exactly where you'd like it to be updated. Additionally, upon pick up, they let you try the piece on the ensure everything is to your liking before you take the item home. I've taken 2 different dresses to Josh's for quick fixes (hemming the bottom to match my height, taking in extra fabric in the shoulders, and increasing the height of the leg slit on the dress). For both dresses, I'm extremely satisfied with the work and they now fit me perfectly for weddings. Came here twice. The first time was get a suit tailored. Loved the results so I came back a second time. The second time was to get another suit tailored, a blazer sleeves shortened, and pants hemmed. Kind of dubious at the work that was done. I had asked for the belt loops to be removed from the suit pants and suspender buttons to be added to the pants as well. I saw the tailor write it into the little piece of paper when I asked for the work to be done. It came out to $295, which I thought made sense. When I picked it up, the suspender buttons were not added and belt loops were not removed. I had asked if it was already included in the bill. The person said no and that it would be an additional $X and $Y to do it. Which confused me because I swear I saw him write it down during the initial visit and my fiancèe even heard the conversation too. The suit jacket didn't even look like it was pulled in either. There was no way to really verify what work I had requested since there wasn't an itemized receipt. But $295 to pull in a suit jacket, shorten the sleeves, and hemming the suit pants. As well as shortening the sleeves for a blazer and hemming another pair pants. Something seems off with that math and think that I got overcharged for an extra 75 dollars or so. read more

Most of them seemed like they either didn't like their product (suit supply) or didn't were pretentious and suggested I go buy something off the rack (tailor's keep). Josh was warm and welcoming. He and his daughter met me at their show room where I picked out just the right fabric, lining, pockets, lapels, etc, etc. A dizzying number of choices. Fortunately Josh was there to help me through the process and give me good suggestions and defaults and explanations. The suit came back and it's beautiful fits great. Josh himself has strong opinions which can be helpful if you're a novice, but happily adjusts if you want something different. I cannot recommend them enough!! Josh and his team were amazing and so helpful with a bridesmaid dress that a different tailor did not alter correctly. On a super tight timeline, Josh was able to take the dress in several inches around the waist, hips and chest so the dress fit as intended. I have used Josh Tailoring since 2008 consistently until today. This year I bought 3 jackets (same maker), the jackets required alteration to sleeve length. At separate times I took the jackets to Josh, the first 2 jackets cost $35 to alter. One week ago I took the 3rd jacket for exact same alteration, the charge was $55. Before writing this review I asked them to explain the 60% increase, they lied saying the coat has been in effect for 2 years. Is this "gouging" or inflation ?????. read more

Out of all the tailors I've been to in the city the only one I felt who was able to pin down exactly what I wanted was Josh's Tailoring. He has an eye for everything--a genuine tailor. I've brought many pieces that range from contemporary to suiting and he hit the mark for all of them. As time went on, and the more pieces I brought, he understood the style I wanted to achieve. I eventually had two pairs of pants that I got custom made by him. He's exactly what a tailor should be. They get to know the client and understand what they want. He will also be honest and let you know is possible, what he would recommend, and that's something that I valued since the work he does will reflect his image. He would advise on certain projects or alterations of he knows it wouldn't come out great. I personally was very anxious about where to get a tailored suit, but Josh's tailoring was beyond welcoming. Such a lovely experience. My (now) wife and I went in to purchase suits well over a year and some change ago.
