We needed to move our father to a new assisted living facility and had no point of reference. 24Hr HomeCare was recommended to us and we are so thankful to have found them. Our father was completely taken care of by kind and compassionate caregivers that genuinely cared about him and assisted him with every possible aspect of his recovery. Each caregiver over the course of many weeks established strong bonds and relationships with our father. Aside from one negative experience with a caregiver, the experience was excellent. On that note, I will say that upon calling our Manager, Eric regarding this issue, he took immediate action and replaced our fathers caregiver without question. Our family is eternally grateful, very appreciative of the care our father received from 24HR HomeCare and could not have asked for anything more.

I decided that I needed some supplemental help once he returned home. I researched several agencies online checking Yelp/Google reviews, BBB information, licensing information and company websites. I developed a list of three agencies to contact based on my research. I contacted the first agency. It did not go well. I was shuffled around to different people; meetings were set up, then cancelled; calls/texts went unreturned; interviews were set up and candidates never showed/cancelled at the last minute; etc. After two weeks, I had had enough. Next up, Family Matters. I re-visited their website and downloaded the free In-Home Care Guide which required me to input my contact information. After fully reviewing the guide, I picked up my phone to call them and my phone rang before I could dial. The caller identified himself as Andrew from Family Matters. I laughed and told him that I was just about to call Family Matters. We spent the next 30-45 minutes discussing my father, his likes/dislikes, his personality, the qualifications that we were seeking in a caregiver, and the list of tasks/responsibilities the caregiver would perform for my father. Andrew indicated that he had a caregiver in mind and would call me back within the hour. I asked him to e-mail me a copy of their care agreement to review in the meantime. Within 5 minutes, I received the care agreement. Within an hour, he called to inform me that they had the perfect caregiver for my father and that she could start shortly. The caregiver, Marcia, that was placed with us was EXCEPTIONAL!!! She was a perfect fit for my father and was highly qualified. She was with him for about 15 months, and we cherished the time that she was in our home caring for my father. We would have loved to have had her with us until the end of time, but she retired. We were very happy for her, but sad to lose her as we had both grown very fond of her. Following her departure, Family Matters tried to find a replacement, but they were unable to find a good fit for my father in terms of availability to work the schedule that he needed, personality, skill set, and qualifications, so encouraged us to work with another agency. Although we were sad to no longer be working with Family Matters, we appreciated them being up front with us and putting our needs above their own. We engaged another agency who placed a caregiver with us for about 5 months. When she left, we contacted Family Matters to re-establish contact and query them about a replacement caregiver. We were told that Andrew had moved on and were introduced to Ashleigh, the new Account Manager. As before, we reviewed all of our requirements with her and within an hour, she had a great caregiver for him who started with my father the following week. That was a little over two months ago and his new caregiver, Elsie, is FANTASTIC!! Ashleigh maintains close contact with us to ensure my father's needs are being met, inquire about his health, and visit us in our home. There are a lot of independent caregivers & caregiving agencies out there. Some are not good, some are reasonably good, and others are exceptional. Family Matters and the caregivers that they employ, in our experience, are all exceptional. If I had to summarize the reasons I would recommend Family Matters to others in need of a caregiver, I would state the following: 1) The entire staff including, Account Managers, Staffing Managers, Receptionists, and Caregivers are extremely friendly, caring, polite, professional and responsive. If they say they are going to do something, they do it and do it within a reasonable amount of time. If a problem arises, they are on it quickly and it is resolved swiftly. 2) The staff does an exceptional job of listening to all requirements, qualifications and needs to best match a caregiver with the client 3) The caregivers have very good professional experience, qualifications, training, certifications, and licensing 4) The agency does all of the leg work, so you do not have to do so. As caregivers are employed by the agency, the agency conducts all recruiting, interviewing, background checks, references, licensing, training, benefits, liability insurance, time keeping, and manages the caregiver's payroll. They also handle billing, so you receive an invoice for each period which can be paid in several ways, including autopay. 5) They communicate in several ways and will accommodate their communications to the method which best suits the client 6) You can tell that the employees are treated well and that the management cares about their well-being. Everyone really enjoys working there and it shows. 7) Family Matters has many resources available on-line We highly recommend Family Matters to any person or family member looking for in home care for a loved one.

Once Mom was able to return home we knew she would need assistance during the day while we were away. Lauren was mentioned during a support group for a rare disease my Mother has. She was very thorough, communicative and listened to what my Mother needed. It took a reasonable amount of time to find the right caregivers that meshed well with Mom. But, that was expected, as new people enter one another's lives it takes time to find the right fit. Lauren's team literally saved her life. Part of Mom's neurodegenerative disease impacts her ability to chew, and swallow. While taking her morning vitamins one day, Mom began choking and the visiting angel with her immediately knew what to do. Had the caregiver not been with Mom that day she wouldn't be us. Unfortunately because the disease continued to progress we eventually had to find a suitable home to provide her with 24 hour assistance. Had Mom's disease not progressed, we would not have stopped working with Lauren and her Visiting Angels team. Lastly, I believe SD Visiting Angels was previously owned and operated by someone else, prior to Lauren taking ownership. I cannot speak to the caliber of the earlier company, however, Lauren is a knowledgeable, genuine and caring person. We are thankful we were able to work together to source caregivers for our loved one.

I recommend Brent Kline, Chris Paley, and their Home Helpers Home Care team with my strongest…read morepossible recommendation. Let me tell you why. For several months my 83-year-old mom had been showing increasing signs of needing help to continue living alone in her San Diego home, help none of her kids could provide from our own homes thousands of miles away. Begrudgingly, she agreed in June 2016 to have me fly out and, with her, interview several in-home care agencies, including Brent and Chris. And even though she for the first time saw the value, she just wasn't willing to take action. But one day in September 2016 she was walking from her car to see her doctor, blanked out, and took a hard fall, suffering a mild brain injury. Ironically, I happened to be in town again for a conference, and so was able to spend the next five days with her, first at the hospital, and then beginning her recovery at home. One thing the doctors made clear was that Mom no longer should live alone, and during this acute period she should have someone in the home with her throughout the day, making sure in her weakened state that she would get plenty of rest and, above all, avoid another fall. So since I would have to leave after a few days, my brother made quick plans to fly out and replace me, who in turn would be replaced by my sister. Given our travel schedules, there would be a four-day gap between my departure and my brother's arrival. So based on the June interview and Brent's professional follow-up, I asked him if on short notice he could assemble a team to provide Mom with 14-hour-per-day care for just those four days. To my amazement and relief, he was. On the morning of my departure, Brent, Chris, and one of the three staff members who would provide this care for my mom came to her home, met with us, did a quick survey of how to best help her, and let me leave for the airport. And later that afternoon, when it came time for a shift change, Brent and Chris came back to the home to introduce the second staff member to my mom to ensure she understood and felt comfortable with the transition. Everything seemed to be smooth sailing. But that afternoon, my mom began manifesting new symptoms from her injury--a limp arm, slurred speech, and facial drooping. Prudently, the staff helper called Brent and Chris, who wisely decided the best course of action would be to call 911 and have my mom return to the emergency room for a fresh assessment. The hospital readmitted her, kept her two more nights, and then released her. But again, shortly after she was released and back home for a few hours, the neurological symptoms flared up again, and based on the metrics established by one of the doctors, back to the ER she went, once again being admitted to the hospital, this time for one night before they released her again. During all of this, Brent, Chris, and their team were absolutely fabulous in every way. They made the difficult but wise calls to return my mom to the hospital. They interfaced with the doctors and communicated to us kids the doctors' findings and instructions. They picked my mom up from the hospital when she was released and brought her home again. Without complaint they adjusted, readjusted, and readjusted again their staffs' schedules. And Brent and Chris personally disrupted their own schedules and that of their families in order to ensure help was available, no matter when or for what reason. In fact, they were so willing to set everything aside to help my mom that one night Chris even volunteered to step in and provide overnight care for my mom if the hospital released her in the early evening, since it would be too late to arrange for one of their staff members come on such short notice. As a business owner myself, I felt terrible for them, particularly because of the repeated disruptions of their plans, the massive amount of time personally given by Brent and Chris, and the fact that their staff were without billable hours they had been expecting when they agreed to help my mom. So I asked Brent if they would please bill us above and beyond the actual hours they had tallied during these four days so that the staff, as well as Brent and Chris, could be made whole. But they insisted that they would not bill us beyond the actual hours that everyone had served, and that Brent's and Chris's own time would be billed at the same rate as their staff's. So, in the end, the bill was just a small fraction of what we had been expecting, despite the fact that they all went to such heroic lengths to help my mom in a time a real need. What's more, Brent explained they shared my concern for the financial impact on their staff, and even though they would not be charging us for anything more than the hours actually served, Brent and Chris would be compensating their staff above and beyond the actual hours the staff had provided. So, as I began, I strongly recommend Brent, Chris, and their team.

The hourly rate was $42/hr which is far above the cost of private care, but we were willing to pay it because of our unexpected urgent need. 1. I was sent a schedule with names of caregivers, but very often the person who showed up wasn't who was on the schedule, which was confusing for both my grandmother and our family. 2. On the 2nd or 3rd day, we got a call that the person scheduled for the evening shift could not make it, and i was called and texted 3 times urgently while i was in a work meeting. The scheduler asked if they should cover the shift - like what??? of course YOU should cover the shift, and why are you waiting on me to confirm this before attempting to cover? 3. A caregiver who was scheduled multiple times, Beatriz, spent more time on her phone than caring for my grandmother, even though we agreed to light housekeeping and some meal prep - there was always something she could have been doing. I could have hired anyone to sit with her and be on their phone. 4. Yesterday, 6/10, we had a shift scheduled to being at 8PM. I got a text message at 7:55PM stating that the caregiver scheduled was going to be an hour late due to 'traffic.' There was no traffic in San Diego - I Checked the sig alert. And WHY would I only be notified 5 minutes before the scheduled shift that there was an hour delay? Well an hour passed with no update from the scheduler. I called my grandmother and no one was there. At 9:30 I got a message that the caregiver had crossed the border and was on her way. At 10:05, no one had yet arrived and I had my keys in my hand to walk out the door to drive the 30 minutesto do her evening routine-- only to get a text that finally the caregiver had arrived. This serivce is NOT reliable NOR are they providing the level of care priomised at consult. At this point, I dont trust this group to arrive for thier shifts OR provide any service when they are there. I got a call from AMY today to discuss my concerns and she basically displayed no empathy for my experience - just said she would talk to the employees in question, and essentially confirmed that this is the way they do business. I said I would like the caregiver to come tonight as scheduled, and then will not be signing up for any additional services. At 3:30P today, I got a call from yet another manager who said that they cancelled the caregiver scheduled tonight - I called back and left a voicemail, but I don't know why I am surprised - this is par for the course for my two week relationship with this SHAM of a company - it was neither convenient for the family managing the care, NOR was the care consistent across the employees, NOR could I rely on them to show up when agreed upon. It felt like every day was a crap shoot and a drama.
