I am writing to share my experience following a tour of Adventure School on Monday, July 7, 2025. I have been actively visiting various preschools and childcare centers in search of the best environment for my two-year-old son. Throughout this process, I have encountered several programs that did not meet my standards or expectations. Adventure School, however, stood out as a refreshing and reassuring exception. Although I did not have a scheduled appointment, I was warmly welcomed by Sarah, who immediately made me feel at ease. She took the time to understand what I was looking for and kindly offered to show me the two-year-old classroom. The teacher in that room was attentively seated with a child who appeared to be waking up or had just arrived, while the other children played calmly within her line of sight. Importantly, the classroom was in ratio--something I've found to be lacking in many other centers. The environment was calm, organized, and engaging. The walls displayed children's artwork, the classroom was rich in print, and materials were thoughtfully arranged without being overwhelming. A child-sized bathroom was located within the classroom, providing convenient access for potty-trained children. Throughout the tour, I asked detailed questions about teacher-to-child ratios, daily schedules, tuition, meals, hours of operation, and more. Sarah was able to answer all my inquiries thoroughly and without hesitation. She also discussed classroom transitions and walked us through the three-year-old room. Before that, she allowed my son to explore the outdoor play area, which included developmentally appropriate toys and climbing structures. We also had a meaningful conversation about early intervention, including AzEIP and Child Find, and how the school supports children who may be experiencing developmental delays. Sarah's knowledge and genuine commitment to supporting all children were clearly evident. Sarah's demeanor was warm, professional, and consistent throughout the visit. Despite spending a significant amount of her time with us, Sarah never appeared rushed or inconvenienced. This was a stark contrast to the reception I've received at several other centers. Upon leaving, I immediately contacted a friend who is also searching for a preschool and strongly recommended she consider Adventure School, despite the distance. Had the location been closer to our home and workplace, and the cost more manageable for our budget, I would have enrolled my son on the spot. Based on my experience, I have full confidence that he would be safe, supported, and nurtured in this environment. read more

Staff and children alike are rude people. The principal and other administrative staff are aware and are active proponents of bullying, particularly when responding to legitimate parental complaints. read more

It is unfortunate I have to write such a poor review for a place we had very high hopes for. It was in a perfect location- right next to our other son's school. After we toured the school (basically stand on the outside because they would not allow parents to enter due to COVID restrictions) and speaking to the teacher we were confident it was going to be a good fit for my 1 year old son. Unfortunately, he was only there for 1 month before we pulled him out. To begin, my son's time at the school was unpleasant and the teachers made little to no effort to provide reassurance he was thriving in their school. I am aware the transition from home to center day care is difficult on some children, but this was not the case. Every single day there was tears at pick-up and drop-off and he was very noticeably sad. Keep in mind, we never actually entered the facility because we weren't allowed to. I asked the teacher for a more thorough explanation of his day and they directed to his daily sheet: a half piece of paper with vague, pre-filled items (for example, for the "activities I did" box, there were 5 items to select from). I was not satisfied with this low-effort report on my sons day so I asked for more detailed to be added to the sheet. I also asked for them to check his diaper every hour (a standard most day cares abide by) because the sheet had only indicated two diaper changes for quite some time. They added more detail and indicated more diaper changes on one maybe two days and then immediately reverted no detail, and 1-2 diaper changes per day. Of course this lead to frustration and frequent diaper rashes. This was unacceptable. Furthermore, they washed his hands raw. While I understood the need for increase hand washing to mitigate the risk of infection, they did not make an adequate effort to alleviate his irritated and dry skin, EVEN AFTER I wrote a letter requesting them to apply Aquaphor (that I supplied) in the affected areas of his hands ONCE a day. The final moment that led to us pulling my son out of the school was their INFLEXIBLE and un-reasonable drop-off and pick-up deadlines. They require all children to be dropped-off by 8:30AM and picked up by 4:30PM- not a minute later WITH NO EXCEPTIONS. Of course, they rebutted this by stating they allow late drop-off pick/ pick-up if it is approved by the director the day prior, but as everyone in the world knows, emergencies occur without notice. One morning, we had to deal with a personal emergency prior to drop-off. Per their request, I texted their number letting them know we are 5 minutes away at 8:25AM. As we were literally seconds away, I receive a response at 8:30AM on the dot letting me know they were not going to be accepting him "Sorry". I immediately called them and let them know I was pulling up. A teacher answered and said there was nothing they could do so I asked to speak to be director. The pre-school director was not in so I was directed to the main school director. Immediately, and in a very condescending tone, she restated there was nothing they could do if my child was not there before 8:30am and it has not been previously approved by the director. She said after 8:30 they allocate teachers to the classrooms and that had already taken place, at 8:32AM!!! She did not give me the chance to explain why we were a minute late, just proceeded to hang up. Not only did this not make sense, but we were also put in a very difficult place. As most parents know, having last-minute no childcare when you have a job to go to is incredibly hard to manage and the center made sure they made no effort to work with parents. I hope this helps someone looking for reliable, and high quality daycare. This place is neither. read more

We went to Adventure School because my daughter's needs were not being met at our prior daycare. The teachers took the time to understand my daughter's special needs (she has sensory discrimination disorder). We were referred by her therapist - it was the best decision we could have made to take our daughter there. Within one week things were remarkably better. The teachers are always friendly, kind, respectful, and open to discussing how to best help my daughter. She has learned so much from letters to numbers to improved social skills. We ended up transferring our other daughter there after only 6 weeks because we were so impressed. They also have a great community of parents. I was impressed by their musical performance that was largely choreographed and written by the elementary school kids. I highly recommend Adventure School. read more

My son went to Adventure School Preschool for two years. We moved far away and are so sad to be leaving. I am a teacher and had started at a charter school called Old Pueblo Children's Academy. It was a wonderful school for children in group homes and foster care, or that had been expelled from other schools. It closed, suddenly, due to money issues. One of my coworkers works at the charter location and a current coworker previously worked there and left on great terms. When I had my son and needed preschool in Tucson my friend recommended Adventure School and I am so blessed to have found it. I have a bachelors in elementary ed with a certification in early childhood education so I am very particular about centers. I've worked at Little Sprouts off of Broadway (closed/changed names) and the Jewish Community Center. Adventure School Preschool is stable, professional, and nurturing. Their schedule is consistent, center is clean, toys are age appropriate, and I love both of their play grounds. They have a real sand box and real grass. I've talked to other parents who said their children's daycares don't even take the kids out for recess. They have a woman come in for music enrichment every Friday. Their prices are more than fair and comparable to other sites in the area. The teachers who were in the ones room are still there and still have a close relationship with my son. We talk about school at home and my son loves his teachers and friends. The teachers go to professional development regularly and they have staff meetings and work well together. The building is always very clean without having the sickening, industrial bleach smell you will find at a La Petite or Child Time. My son has an allergy to soy and dairy and they are very good at providing healthy and safe snacks for him. In Tucson it can be hard to find a daycare or preschool that is personable, professional, and reasonable. Adventure Schools is it. It is a very home-like, Reggio feel. We've gone back to visit since leaving the center and it makes my son so excited to see his friends and teachers. They keep a detailed portfolio binder on each child complete with notes on current development across all areas (social emotional, gross motor, fine motor...) complete with photos. With everything digital now I truly appreciate this journal of my child's preschool experiences. I've never seen a center actually keep and manage detailed portfolios like this, much less give them to parents. Take your young children to Adventure Schools. It is one of the good ones. read more

The preschool is one of the best I've ever had my son attend. I've had bad experiences before, so I'm very critical of daycare enters. All of the staff clearly have a deep caring for the children. I see diligent, thoughtful care occurring in every aspect of what they do from cleanliness to activities to snacks provided. Every time I see a potential new parent touring the school with Laura, the Director, I make it a point to tell them they're making a great decision. I never worry about my son when he's in their care while I work. I know he's in the best hands he could be outside of my family. read more

If I could give a negative 5 stars, I would. This place is terrible! The staff is extremely unprofessional and it's really unstructured! Don't expect your child to learn much or develop much while attending this school because they will keep your child in a class that is for kids younger than him/her until a spot opens up. Never mind that your kid is almost a full year older than the rest of the children. It is extremely unorganized and the lines of communication are just non existent. The staff waited over a week before letting me know where my kid's cubby was and that I had Tupperware to take home. I guess cleanliness and a neat and tidy cubby area was not their first concern. I picked my child up several times and my child was covered in mud. I understand that children play and it can get dirty, but it is out of sheet laziness that you resort to letting kids play in the mud at 5pm while you sit back and watch. No respect or consideration for the parents! My kid always came home with scratch marks and other injuries. No one bothered to call me or let me know, they simply handed me a sheet of paper saying they put magic rice on it. No bandaid or anything. Incompetent staff. Totally incompetent. I wouldn't pay $2/ week to send my kid here. No way! read more

I went to pick up my niece from school today, she was sitting on a bench next to a couple staff members. This was the first time I picked her up and no one questioned me or even acknowledged that I was even on the school grounds and another parent just let me in. I had gotten there 20 minutes early as I sat in the parking lot waiting for 3 o'clock I was watching the playground in shock. It looked like a riot was happening. Kids where beating each other up and this was way more than just playing and the adults just were standing there talking to each other. At one point one kid picked up and threw another kid to the ground and proceeded to stomp on him, while other kids were just pushing, hitting and getting other kids in headlocks. This is not a safe place for children. read more

We're so happy with Adventure School's early child care program! This is a small, personal-feeling school with professional and flexible staff who are highly responsive to the needs of every child, rather than insisting all the children there be in the same place. The teachers are genuinely caring and the gentle work they do to teach social and other skills is superb. I always feel like I can talk to the staff, and like the director is present and easy to talk to as well. The teachers here were both there for my child when she needed extra support in her early days there, and now, a couple years later as she's truly thriving, remain there for her. We almost overlooked this school when we were researching child care. I'm so glad we didn't! read more
