I come here as often as possible when coming through town. They have a large comics section and back issues are buy 2 get 1 free. I always seem to walk out with at least a dozen so the savings adds up! The staff is always friendly. Lots of other stuff to check out here like games and music, but I'm usually on a time crunch and the comics collection is mission one. read more

I have lots of nerdy interests, and so many of them are represented here! New and used books of several genres, comics, graphic novels, old records, board games, role playing games...I could go on for a long time. The employees are all super friendly and work really hard to help you find things. Which is good because with so much stuff you could get lost down the rabbit hole! I say this with love. I also love that the prices are more than fair, because they recognize people are coming in for the love of nerd stuff aren't all made of gold. Additionally, this is a very family appropriate place for nerd parents to bring their nerdlings and pass on the love of nerd stuff to the next generation. I just needed to give a shout out to how amazing Adventures Underground is. Not only do they do online orders, but their care and consideration is top notch. I'm a fan of Patricia Briggs series and when she tweeted that she'd gone in and signed all their copies I was delighted at the chance to nab one. To my surprise, rather than just sending the book outright Adventures Underground reached out to me and let me know that I had nabbed one of the books Patty hadn't signed. They offered to swap them out, but I was so impressed they were aware and alerted me first that I just opted to add another one on. They were able to add it in on my order, without me having to do any of the legwork. To top it off, they came wrapped with such care. TLDR: People + staff here are amazing. Order from them. Do get me wrong this store has amazing stuff to buy but what I'm not pleased with is that on Saturday I bought two Christmas presents but one was the wrong book and the other my best friend significant other already got the book so I tried to return them and my husband return them for me and they told my husband you can return them but only for store credit because you can only get a refund only on the same day return I'm sorry but I live on the other side of town with an infant plus when I got the books the store would've been closed by the time I got back there to me this doesn't make sense or far I'm very unhappy with this purchase and I've been shopping there for years and this is the first time I've had a terrible experience and service in my life and I've had a lot of bad customer service before but not like this read more

The name of this place is appropriate. It's seriously an adventure once you enter the place. I walked in to look at artwork and walked out with a vintage book that was part of a collection. I never indulge in entire collections but somebody had already bought just one volume so I felt that it was okay for me to just buy the one that called to me. Anyway, this place has your vintage and modern books, manga, toys, boardgames, art, vinyl records, and more. It's fun to come hang out for a while and to see people from all walks of life perusing the store. There's also a cafe that apparently serves beer (my companion told me, but I did not verify that) and a room in the back where people play games and socialize. Pretty sweet place. I wish it would let me NOT give this store a star. I was harassed and policed about pulling my mask up while I shopped. Some one guarding the door was going off on another customer about the way his mask was covering his nose. I was browsing over records. I was alone in the back of the store. My glasses kept fogging up and I couldn't see. George was helpful but did tell me to pull up my mask. We expected a bookstore mainly geared toward comic books and adult interest, but were pleasantly surprised by the wide range of interests covered in this magical store. Especially all that was of interest for a child to look at, from a perfect meticulously organized children's book section, to board games, and even an area of toys for children. Talk about an experience!?!?! I felt like I was walking through a real life "choose your own adventure" book from the 80's. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING a Gen X dad nerd like me ( and nerds of all ages ) could geek out on was right in front of me. Talk about an overwhelming feeling! From Board games, to models, to hard to find cult toy figurines, books new and used, comics..... Let's talk about the comics... you name it, they got it, and if they don't have it, they'll get it for you. As I was browsing, I was curious to see if they had any Marvel comics that influenced the films, and just as I was saying to myself "they should have a section...." I look up and all I could say was "Whoa". DC comics was laid out in a similar fashion. So for the comic book lover of all ages, whether you're a hard core reader or a casual fan, your need will be satisfied. As if this isn't enough to entice one to spend, they have a record store and coffee shop that seals the deal of "Shut up and take my money please!" The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of the inventory, and if they happen to get stumped on a question, they invite you to find out together. I was in Adventure Underground looking for a cool and collectible T-shirt so I took off my jacket and was about to set my big puffy coat down on the chair when the large, gray stuffed animal blinked at me and then stirred ever so slightly. I swear I nearly jumped out of my skin... I'm not usually so jumpy; maybe it was the drinks from Lee's Tahitian but how was I supposed to know that big gray dog sitting on the chair was real... I'm not really into this kind of stuff, but I gotta admit, this store was pretty cool. My brother is a big collector of...well you name it. So when we walked into this place, he was in collection heaven. Place is well organized, has tons of stuff, and have a staff that are super nice and great to talk to. Books, graphic novels, records (yeah LPs and 45's) toys, cards, dolls, the list goes on and on. The back has a cool gaming room too. I think you could take every store in the SF Bay Area, put them all together, and still not have a place as big as this. Ok, maybe that's exaggerating, but the place is huge! Wish I could transplant it in California. Good thing they do mail order though. If you're ever in the Tri-Cities area, drop on in and enjoy the browsing. read more

Nothing beats an in-person experience. The store's website was easy to navigate, and convenient especially with the need to shelter in place and not being able to find my favorite comics locally. I got a kind email from Sara, who confirmed my order, its availability, and my sales price as well as shipping and tracking info. My comics arrived promptly and in pristine condition -- thoughtfully and professionally wrapped (I so appreciate this!). Thank you, thank you! I can't believe after all these years, I haven't yet written a review for Adventures Underground?? If you're in the Tri-Cities and have been buying your books at the Barnes & Noble or at Hastings (god forbid), STOP IT!! :) You should totally be getting them at Adventures Underground and supporting local business! It's a new and used bookstore that has all kinds of awesome things like a huge collection of comics, graphic novels, VINYL (yes, those black spinny things that make sound), all manner of board games, and a pretty kick-ass children's and YA section. There have been times when they didn't have exactly what I wanted, but they were very happy to put in an order for me and then call me when it comes in. If you're into gaming, they have a huge back room completely dedicated to games (D&D, Magic the Gathering, and all sorts of other things going on back there). Check their events calendar on their website, but there's pretty much constantly something going on back there. Some things require a registration fee, but other stuff is free. The staff is always super-friendly and knowledgeable. And don't be surprised to see a gigantic wolfhound walking around. That's just Charley and he's a sweetheart. read more

This was easily the worst Record Store Day experience I've ever had. Having attended RSD at several different stores across several different states, this was my first in Washington. Not knowing what the turnout would be, I arrived at Adventures Underground at 6am and was the only car in the lot. I kept waiting until I saw an employee open the front door around 7:30am. It was then he let me know the RSD line was around the corner at a different entrance. Now, being a first-time customer, there was NO indication I'd need to use a separate entrance. To make things worse, I had done research the days prior and there was even confusion on what time AU would open for RSD. The end result was me not getting the one record I woke up early and waited to get. The store received two copies and someone got a hand on the last one before I could get to it. The employees did nothing and were entirely unhelpful with a consoling "that sucks" response. This was even after I spoke of my experience and being there long before anyone else had lined up. read more

This quirky store is such a sweet spot of sunshine in our town of Richland. I buy many of my gifts here especially the board games. They have a good supply of books, comic books and graphic novels. You'll find unique little gifts and toys, as well. Th cafe bar has nice offerings and sits among the vinyl collection. Very nice people work here and will assist you in every way they can. For the Tri-Cities there is simply no reason to ever visit Barnes & Noble or Hastings again! Adventures Underground is a locally owned bookstore, record store, comic book & game store. If there isn't a book in stock they can order it. Doesn't matter what you want they'll get it! Since it's locally owned every $$ you spend there goes back to our community not some corporate machine. The only thing this store doesn't have that it needs is a cafe! The service is always friendly and helpful. As soon as you walk in the door you're greeted by the friendly, caring staff. I've seen this place for months and have been meaning to go in, but didn't make it until last night. I struggled a bit with setting the categories, and I think that I made a decent choice. It's hard to pigeon-hole this place, since there are so many different things here. First, I love that their hours are the same every day (10 to 8), because that's just easy for me to remember. Second, it's HUGE! They sell used books, comic books, new books, rare books, music, figureines (need a Godzilla?), art, and boardgames, among other things. This all includes the biggest graphic novel section that I've ever seen. Along with some of the most interesting categories that I've come across. If you want to know what they are, you'll have to go. To top it all off, their prices are very reasonable and affordable. They've got a bunch of tables set up for people to play games right in the store. When I went in tonight, it was pretty happen' with a lot of nerds sitting around playing board games (NOTE: I say this in the most affectionate way possible--I *heart* you nerds!). read more

Best new business to come to Richland in ages. This is the independently run store that I had dreamed of since I was a child. Books, comics, games, CDs, records, and gigantic friendly dogs. Had this place existed when I was 13, I would have probably lived there. Whenever I pass through the Tri-Cities these days, I always make sure to stop by for a few minutes... even if it's just to look around and sigh. I love you Adventures Underground. There is definitely some digging to be done in this store! From their CDs (which are a little outdated) to their record selection (AFI and Adam and the Ants and Aerosmith? Wow!) all the way to their one of a kind book selection, there is something to be found. You can never go wrong here! They have a love able watch dog (or they used to. I've not been in to visit for a few weeks) who is always willing to be scratched behind the ears. The staff is friendly and helpful, always willing to stop and help you find what you're looking for. The set up is a little odd, it's some times hard to find exactly what you're looking for. But how could you not love a book store with books like 'Meat Science Essays'? I've driven past this place a thousand times since moving to the Tri-Cities a year ago, and never thought to stop in because it didn't look like it would have much. But I went in today for free comic book day and was pleasantly surprised to find they are actually a comic book mecca. The place was much larger than I thought, and it was filled with a great selection of graphic novels, comics, toys, card games, games, toys and much more. I will be going back regularly now. EDIT: 12/04/10 Just bought a new game (Cutthroat Caverns) yesterday and a nice book (Shrek) for the kids a few weeks ago too. I love this place. Finally made it to one of the Uptown's coolest new places. This store has a hodge podge of cool things. While listening to unique music in the background, (I'm pretty sure they were playing They Might Be Giants---and this is the Tri-Cities!) one can browse their decent selection of new and used books. That's just the tip of the ice berg though. If you're looking for card and board games (all games not "video"!), this place reins in spades. They have a selection of surprisingly cool used CDs (they must have a "cool-music vetting program"). They also have a selection of LPs as well. And if you like comics, this place has a huge section dedicated to the standards and hard to find ones. Or if you're "above that", they have a HUGE selection of graphic novels. I heart bookstores and this one is fabulous. Their collection is gigantic - you can find just about anything here. And Corey is right about the games - what a great section! I'm not really into comics or graphic novels but if I was, I would probably live here. An endless selection that is complete with pop culture items like T-shirts, action figures, posters and more. HUGE plus. Have ya been to a game and comic store before? They tend to be cramped. I'm not the kinda girl who wants anyone rubbing against me unless they've been invited...and fortunately this layout doesn't invite that. It's so spacious you could run around in there. I bought a card game called Wild Horses for my 5 year old 2nd cousin. It was $12.99. They had other favorites of mine such as Set and Pit, which always impresses me.
