Our Dad stayed here for just under a year before passing. He was very happy with the care and compassion given him during his time here. The only issue he had was the food which he was always critical of even at the restaurants we went to. In reading some of the other reviews I think Aegis has improved much since those reviews. They adjusted the billing when we brought up a service we didn't need anymore. The only increase is the new year rate adjustment which is normal. They were quick to call when Dad had a fall and told us he's OK. Then when he needed to be transported to the hospital they called and told us where he was being taken to and why. Considering the number of residences the response time when summoned can be long considering the situation. Dad did complain about that a few times he had to push his help button. Overall the facility is first class. Lots of daily group activities to keep the residents engaged including special events to celebrate holidays. Volunteer groups entertain the residents with ethnic dances, sing a-longs, etc. First Thursday family events are always fun and residents get to meet and get to know other family members. Staff has always been friendly, patient, and helpful. They recognize us when we visit and engage in conversation telling us about Dad's days. Even the residents remember us and when they hadn't seen Dad for a day or so they would ask us how he's doing. So it's a very good social environment with residents looking out for each other as well. I would rate them excellent but for Dad's couple of complaints. Keep up the good work at Aegis. read more

I will be posting a thorough review of this facility at a later date - but wanted to get this out there to help alert any prospective residents about this community. High level: My loved one stayed there for over a year, and I would NOT recommend this place. The facility is beautiful, but that's the only good thing about this - the rest is smoke and mirrors. Facility - 5 stars Service - 1 star (Response times can be upwards of 1 hour, to never coming for toileting. If you need genuine care for ADLs (activites of daily living) this is not the place for you.) Food - 2.5 stars (more on this later) Cost - 1 star Constant changing of costs with no transparency or clear rationale as to why, always to the detriment of the resident/ family. You WILL be billed for services never rendered and will need to 'go to bat' to dispute these costs - it's thier tactic as most elderly don't understand thier billing or can advocate for themselves. I've spoken with 3 family members who have had this same issue with the shady used car/ gym membership sales type approach. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem paying a high price for good service/product - I am just against paying for services not rendered and you should be too. read more

This is an update to the previous review: After Aegis Gardens decided to honor the agreement, our family thought we can finally have some financial peace. However, this was not true. To make up for the loss in the rent portion, which Aegis agreed upon; Aegis came up with other reasons to increase the care portion of the monthly bill. Again, we had to fight against unjustified increases. Going back and forth several times, my mom finally decided she no longer can tolerate this instability. Sad to say, my parents have moved out of Aegis Gardens. Aegis is a beautiful place for the seniors. However, for those residents that were enticed to move in at a lower entry fee and lower monthly price, they faced constant challenges with Aegis' monthly bill. I just wished Aegis would've had everything spelled out in details in the agreement, so our family had all the information to make the right choice from the very beginning. If the price that we were quoted was a concession, why was this not in the agreement? Also, when residents were told something was a mandatory charge, why do some residents get away with the charges after they argue with management? This was totally subjective and up to management's discretion. My parents loved living at Aegis Gardens, but even the beauty of the place cannot outweigh the frustrations of dealing with unjustified price increases and subjective evaluations. I wish more loved ones of the residents would share their thoughts. I know there are more of you that have faced the same situations that our family faced because our loved ones have shared these frustrations with each other. read more

There's so much to say, but in one word, kindness. Ever since my Father and Mother-in-Law had started to stay at Aegis Gardens in Newcastle, we felt a sense of close community and support. From all the many daily activities that are available for my parents all the way to accommodating my mother's dialysis with rides from the staff. They are an amazing team at Aegis Gardens to the point I would also consider retiring there. Their Asian theme is really amazing, all the way down to their food. But it's really all about the staff. The staff are very caring, understanding like true family. Elizabeth helped us with a tour, talked about the many activities and rooms there, and even asked us about ideas about their facility. When such a place asks feedback from even visitors, you can trust that they are customer minded first. Our parents are still staying there and we are very fortunate to have been able to find Aegis Gardens in New Castle to take such good care of both of our parents. The environment is very nice, modern and clean. With high-end finish and remodels. All the decorations are asian, exotic, and not too much. Just enough to convey the asian-ness, and not over. The community opens its doors for community-focused classes and events. Dance lessons, and events, and speakers. There is event a non-profit bilingual preschool. It is close to the library, and the safeway and qfc, very convenient. And also next to a park and a lake for walks. read more

Where do I begin ... We are so thankful for this wonderful brand-new community. Without a doubt this is an impressive five-star facility. We moved my Mother-in-Law (MIL) Trudy to Aegis Gardens mid-February. I cannot express how impressed we are with the facility and staff. From the first moment we walked through the door the management and staff has been supportive, caring and compassionate. They have gone above and beyond to make sure my MIL feels welcome and cared for. They treat her like family. It's obvious that the devoted management and staff genuinely care for the residents (and family). This facility was built with the residents in mind. They offer so many amenities such as on-site beauty and nail salon, movie theater, koi pond, indoor water fountain, swimming pool, workout room, tea rooms, barbershop, game room with actual slot machines (no you can't win money but you can win prizes), lounge with a lake view. Daily resident trash pickup. Resident outings, exercise classes, etc. Tenants also receive toilet paper, paper towels and soap. The list of amenities goes on and on. Aegis Gardens also provides outstanding culinary offerings! Meals are prepared by their Chef who offers Asian cuisine as well as made to order, cheeseburgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, etc. They also have a noodle bar. Coffee, tea and snacks are available during the day. The decor throughout the facility reflects an opulent Asian theme. Aegis members flew to China and handpicked the wall coverings, beautiful artwork, wall dividers, furniture etc. and had it shipped to Aegis Gardens. They also have multiple flat screen LCD's hanging on the walls that show activities and residents enjoying the activities. They also won a well-deserved prestigious National Award for Best Architecture and Design in the senior living category. They offer studios to 2-bedroom apartments. Some of the apartments have beautiful lake views. There are safety rails outside the apartments. Their attention to detail is phenomenal. They even offer perks to family members such as: the use of motorized bikes to explore the nearby trails and parks, monthly family meetings, wellness profile emails (basically this is a report that tracks activities and a general assessment of the resident and it's sent to family members), attend lecture series, family movie matinees and classes with residents. The feeling I have when I walk through the door is not of an assisted living facility but the atmosphere you would feel at an upscale 5-star hotel. The environment is positive, and the residents seem very happy and content. Although Aegis Gardens emphasis is on the Asian community every nationality is welcome. My grandma (Nancy) was the first person to move in, and the staff has treated her like royalty. I think she was skeptical of moving in, but she loves everyone there and it's a mini paradise for her. There's plenty of things to do there, including mah jong, movies, and local walking trails. The food is great and she loves that family is close enough to come visit her. read more

What a wonderful place to have my mother live at as an assisted living community. Everything is first class here. The facilities are brand new and state of the art. The management team and staff are friendly, helpful, caring, and genuine in their mission to serve the residents in all capacities. We have worked closely with the GM Meng Lo and Marketing Director Selynn Vong. Couldn't have asked for a better team to help my mother move in, settle down, and fit into her new surroundings. They go above and beyond in assisting her to adapt to her new life here. The food is top notch. The menu is varied, healthy, and delicious. No one goes hungry here. This is a wonderful, beautiful Assisted Living community for Asian residents. My Mom moved in 5 months ago and she has been very happy. She loves the helpful and kind staff. She loves all the activities (Mah jong, exercise classes twice a day, cooking classes and frequent outings such as to the Aquarium, Pumpkin Farm, and Dim Sum). The facilities are first class. There is a Tai Chi studio, a room designed for playing Mah jong with square Mah jong tables, a beautiful hair salon, a gathering space with a grand piano, outdoor courtyard, etc. We have peace of mind as from the moment she moved in, my Mom was given a pendant that she wears around her neck with a 24 hour call button. During the day she has used the button for various requests (help with using her cell phone, more bottled water to be brought to her room, etc.). The staff has been very kind and responsive in all situations. read more

My mom moved to Aegis Gardens in January 2018. She absolutely loves her new home. The facilities and decor at Aegis Gardens are first class in every way. Everyone on the staff does a fantastic job of taking care of the residents. Each time I visit my mom, she tells me how much she enjoys her new home, the staff, and all of the variety of different activities for the residents. With all of the busy days, my mom is also now sleeping better than ever. The food served there is delicious. The menu has a good variety of different tasty asian and western dishes that are available every day. When we used to visit my mom at her previous assisted living community, she always preferred that we take her out to eat somewhere else. However, when we now visit her at her new home, we often just choose to stay and eat in the dining room at Aegis Gardens! My mom is so happy!
