I am beyond upset with this air line and their overall lack of knowledge. My fiancé and I were planning our move overseas for months, and we were in constant contact with Aer Lingus while trying to solidify plans and have things ready for our departure date. Every time we called, we would have to talk to a different representative. Whenever we talked to someone different, we would receive information that would not align with what the previous representative told us. After much frustration (and much money spent on additional luggage/placing accommodation requests), our final request was to be able to sit next to one another (I didn't think this was an outrageous request), however, when we checked in, our boarding passes showed that we were no where even near one another. When we called to talk with yet another representative, they informed us that these were the only seats available and that there was nothing they could do. This is absolutely outrageous considering how far in advance we had purchased our tickets, and how many times we had called to talk to the air line in preparation for our move. I do not understand how, after so much time spent communicating with this company to ensure our move would go smoothly, they could not accommodate us sitting next to one another.
Aside from this, everything else we had asked for help with was a huge pain as well. When we called to add additional baggage, we were quoted different prices at different times, then charged more than what the representative said it would cost.
We had worked it out with our connecting flight (Flybe, (who have been absolutely FANTASTIC to work with, by the way)) that they would allow us additional weight in our baggage and encouraged us to contact Aer Lingus to find out if they would allow us the same accommodation. When we called (again) to ask Aer Lingus if this would be possible, or even if we could pay a fee to have the additional weight allowance, the representative directed us to the Aer Lingus webpage that specified allocated weight limits (which is obviously not what we were asking).
I can't even begin to express my annoyance with this air line. At the very least, I feel they should make right for messing up the seating accommodation, however when we called (yet again) to express our frustration and ask what they could do to make this right, they offered no solution or apology for their mistake, but rather told us to take it up with the clerk when we arrived at the airport.
Overall, if you want to use this air line for leisure purposes or perhaps a short business trip, I'm sure these annoyances we experienced would not taint your trip. However, if you are moving, studying abroad, or looking for an air line that will work with you during a stressful part of your life, STAY FAR AWAY FROM AER LINGUS!!!!!
I wish I would have dished out the extra money to fly United. The cheaper tickets were NOT worth the headache and stress that Aer Lingus gave us. read more
