I am so incredibly disappointed in this store. So much so that I signed up for Yelp just to write a review. DO NOT GO HERE! About 7 years ago my mom had a bad experience here. The lady who owned or was an employee of the store screamed at my mom claiming my sister was "messing up her puzzle" that she had laying in the middle of the store (might I add, a toy store that should be inviting children to play) Anyways, she was so disrespectful but I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt because who doesn't have a bad day every once in a while. Today, I went into the store again where I was bombarded by her asking if everyone in my group is older than 18. I was confused by the question, and answered no. Myself and another friend are well over 18, but my little sister (16) is not. She then explained to us that we were not allowed to be there because we did not have a parent with us. Fine. But if you own a TOY SHOP, wouldn't you want children to be able to come in? So she proceeds to tell me its the law with a snarky tone. So I laughed and said "okay, well have a nice day". She responded with "have a nice life!" Unbelievable!!!! While I would have been annoyed with being asked NICELY to leave, she took it to a whole other level (thus why I am writing a Yelp review). A couple was buying their children toys when this occurred. When we left, they apologized for the way she spoke to me. I am 21 years old and allowed to go into bars, but not this toy shop!!! Can't help but laugh a little. Just a word of advice- You are much more likely to get sales if you allow children to play with the toys, let alone allow customers in your store! read more

A+++++++++ customer service. We had bought a wind spinner last summer. We just put it up about 1 month ago at our new home. I came home from work to find it broken, with the pieces of it all over my yard. Of course we had thrown away the package and receipt. I took it back into the store and the kind lady handed me a new one without hesitation. I went in there prepared to have to beg for another, and was very pleasantly surprised that she made it so easy. I will shop here every time I come back to Lake Geneva, and recommend that you do the same. Huge variety and very fairly priced, as well. read more

This tiny little shop off the main drag on the shores of Lake Geneva will, literally, send you soaring!!! We try to get up here at least twice a year for a long weekend. Once you're up there hopefully you get through the main street stop light at least by the 3rd try. But once you do, make your way to Aerial Stunt Kites. Not only do they have and also repair some pretty amazing and innovative 3D windsocks, they also have great toys for kids, and some really pretty chimes. They also have a nice selection of beautiful kites too. But, I personally think the windsock is "the thing". And it's not surprising. Not only are they special (gigantic koi fish, owls, moose, flowers), as well as patriotic (any nation that seems to have a flag), but their stuff wears like iron; through repeated gale force winds, brutal winters, torrential rains, and gentle lake breezes. For their little corner of the market, their service is great and the prices are reasonable for what you get. Nice shop! read more

My boyfriend and I have been visiting Ruth's Kite shop for more than four years now and every single visit has been a delight. She's always going the extra mile to help us pick out Christmas and birthday presents for our nieces and nephews. She will even give demonstrations of games if she has the time. So I was sitting and having coffee and saw this little shop and thought since we had no floats I would go in and buy four of them for my kids and a friend. The minute I walked in I was told I could not have my coffee in the shop. I completely understand that, I offered to just hold it and not drink it or asked if she could simply place it behind the counter and The older woman basically told me no I needed to leave it outside or go finish my coffee and then come back in and that she would not put anything behind the counter because someone once spilled an entire coffee all over her computer and it cost her $600. Trust me I totally get the dont walk around and have a beverage or food in the retail area but the fact that she insisted I placed my coffee outside and not to take it in her hand and simply place it behind the counter so I could continue to shop was so far from any decent customer service. Needless to say I will not be returning and I might add that I quickly looked at some floats and they were extremely overpriced and the towels here look like they're from the dollar store. Try another shop. I am so supportive and try to support local as much as I possibly can but this woman just lost my business and we just bought a condo here last September. I will never recommend her. Based on the feeling I got I can't imagine she will be able around treating people this way. I forgot to add that she threatened to find me $400 if I didn't remove myself and my drink. My review seems to be consistent with the rest of the reviews and I agree zero stars if I could read more

We went into the store today to get out of the cold and look for a restaurant on our phone. We decided to ask the woman behind the desk for a recommendation. She snapped at us and told us she would not recommend any restaurants in the area. When i playful whined, because she would not give a recommendation, she told me she hated whiners and turned her back on us and wouldn't speak to us any longer. I've never been treated so poorly before in my life. I was so taken aback I couldn't even speak. I'm not sure how she can still be in business. The WORST customer service ever. read more

The lady working in the store that day seemed to have a chip on her shoulder. I was in town as an excuse to take a long drive with my fiancee. After breakfast, we wandered from shop to shop. Seeing the fun stuff in the display windows, we walked into Aerial Stunt Kites (I didn't even know the name of the store when we walked in). A TV on the wall was playing a video of some kind of kite competition; four kites flying in formation. It reminded me of a stunt kite I had years ago, and I wondered if they still made it. I would have bought it on the spot, if they did. My fiancee had several items she was going to buy as well. I approached the lady at the counter and asked if the shop had any double-yoked kites. I realize that I was using half-remembered terminology, but I was trying to buy a stunt kite, or at least look at the selection. I figured a normal person, even if they were confused by my question, would say, "Hey, I don't think I know that term, but let me show you what we have!" But no, what I got was, "I have never heard that term before, and I was the first female to compete in a stunt kite competition," combined with a sneer. I explained I wanted a kite that was controlled with two strings, like on the TV up there on the wall. She repeated that she was the first female to ever compete in a stunt kite competition. OK. I just smiled and said, I heard your credentials, but I'm asking if you have such kites in your store, and you haven't answered me. She pointed at a display kite handing from the ceiling. Look, at this point I just left. I think she was more interested in either impressing me or putting me in my place than she was in making a sale. She succeeded at neither. Our dollars stayed in our pockets as we walked out of the store. By the way, go ahead and google "kite yoke two strings" and you find plenty of info, so the term exists. I guess competing with a kite isn't the same thing as actual knowledge, and it doesn't help you sell kites either. read more

My husband and son and I came to the store over the busy Labor Day weekend. Honestly, I wanted to come in to see if the reviews were still valid first of all, and secondarily to grab a kite to take back with us to Chicago. No customers were in the store. In little under 3 minutes the older lady in the store berated me for taking pictures of the two kites I was deciding between(I was going to send them to my husband outside feeding our son). She proceeded to have an attitude about what kind of kite I was hoping to buy. "Do you want a two string or single kite?" She said. "A one string I guess" I replied. "I didn't think you wanted a double, ha" She sneered. Making fun of my limited kite flying skills I guess? Good one. My desire to grab a kite won over my need to make a point and walk out. I wish I had. Go in here for comedic value, not to buy any of the products. read more

I visited this store awhile back and went online today to see if it was still in business. Ruth, the owner, is a wonderful person! I have never experienced a kinder, more welcoming or hospitable stranger in my life. She went well out of her way to make to assist me. 10 out of 10! I am writing this review almost 3 years after we went there because I am still upset about how inconsiderate and rude the lady was.I remember her from almost 5-10 years back. Initially I was impressed by the selection of kites and how the lady explained how they worked. She wasn't the most enthusiastic sales person, but I took it with a grain of salt. Maybe she had an off day. So I bought a stunt kite along with hundreds of dollars in games and toys for the kids over the years. I was up in Lake Geneva with my nephews and I talked up how the store had a great selection of kites and games. The kids were excited to go. We arrived at the store with my nephews and kids (5 boys in total) about 10 minutes before closing time. As we approached, the lady saw us from inside, she walked up to the front and locked the door. Maybe because it was raining, maybe she didn't want to deal with all the kids. Advice: if you have a store filled with kites, games and toys maybe you should hire someone who knows customer service and is happy to see kids! read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. The older woman working here is downright nasty to customers, especially children. My daughter was looking for a raft to take to the beach and they had some for sale that were already inflated. She found the pile and moved the raft in front to the side to reach the color she preferred behind it. The woman came out of nowhere snatching it out of her hand and snapping at her for 'throwing everything all over the place'. My daughter is nine years old. She wasn't running around the store trashing the place. She literally moved one item to the side to reach another. When my daughter asked me if we could buy the raft, i quietly told her 'No, we're not going to buy anything if we're making a mess by looking, let's find another store'. The oh so mature woman responded by sticking her tounge out and 'blowing raspberries' at my daughter when i turned around. Nice. Of course i immediately put back the items my son had already picked out and left. They should really have a sign on the door that says 'adults only' if that's the case. ZERO STARS. Stay Away! This place has the worst customer service. The lady took my closed drink away from my hands and threaten me with a fine of $350 for bringing a drink in the store. While it is true that there are warning signs all over the store (e.g., no kids, no drinks, etc.), I didn't see them as I was very interested in buying an item and didn't notice the signs. Nonetheless, scolding a customer out of the store like a kid it's no way to treat a customer. To top it off, the rude older lady got even more insane when I said I was going to the next door store. The lady started yelling in the street saying that the other store had the same rules. This is embarrassing. I wish I too could give less than 1 star. Woman who owns/runs the store is the most rude shopkeeper I have ever encountered. I've gone into the store numerous times over the years and this time was my last. I walked in with my two kids, ages 17 and 13. I was holding a covered drink with about 3 oz left in the cup. She proceeded to run at me as I walked in the door to tell me that drinks are not allowed in the store. I said 'Oh, okay, come on kids, let's go'. She proceeded to follow me out of the store to tell me that if she were to call the police I would be fined $388.00 for bringing a drink in the store. As nice as the kites look displayed, it is really too bad because the people that work there are super Rude! We tried to go there on a cold march day when I'm sure they could have used the business, as every store and restaurant on Main street was empty. The sign said "no drinks" so I tried to put my newly purchased coffe away in my bag, some older lady employee rushed out to tell me that we couldn't come in, "even if I hide my drink". I wasn't trying to hide anything, my car was parked 3 blocks away and I had 3 small kids with me so to walk back and forth was not happening. I then told her I was putting my drink away and she said 'I don't care'. She lost a probable $100 sale and we just drove to target to spend it, as my kids were disappointed. Better manners and salesmanship is expected in clearly tourist area. I own a condo in nearby delavan and will never be back to this store. And I will tell my Chicago neighbors to shop their kites online. read more

I am appalled at the interaction that I had with both the employee and owner of this store. I came in the store with my six week old baby. As I was looking around my baby started to cry. I took out a bottle and was going to feed her and the employee came over and said, "I don't mind the bottle but you don't plan on feeding her in here, do you?" I did notice her "no food, candy or drink" signs when I came in but it didn't even cross my mind that feeding my 6 WEEK OLD BABY would be included in this policy. I calmly put the bottle away and the employee opened the front door insinuating that I leave, which I did. I left and decided to email the owner to make her aware of the incident. She replied to my email telling me that my actions "caught them off guard" and that her employee didn't know if she should CALL THE POLICE after I left because I had violated the "No food and drink" policy which she made sure to tell me is a "chargeable offense called DISORDERLY CONDUCT coming with a $388.00 fine." She honestly contemplated calling the police because I took out a bottle to feed my baby? She claimed to have "reviewed her tapes" and said that I came in the store and stated that I had no intention of buying anything and that I was just there to feed my baby. That is absolutely ridiculous and a downright lie! I honestly have no clue how she sells even one kite with such horrible customer service. My husband and I frequent Lake Geneva and I definitely won't be giving her any of my business in the future!!! read more

I would NOT recommend this place. Very rude and defensive. I bought a $7 kite. I drove all the way home and it was missing a part. I came back a few weekends later and I went into the store to return/exchange it and the older women got very short, very defensive and wouldn't do anything about it because "they check every kite they get in before selling it." Worse customer service experience ever. I literally left the bag with the defective kite along with my receipt and walked out. She followed me out yelling to the man that is outside demonstrating the kites and he too said that he checked all the kites before hand and that I must have the missing piece at home. I didn't have it at home because when I opened the package it was on the kitchen table and I was alone so I know no pieces fell out or were on the floor. I was really interested in the $25 kite as well as the $65 kite but since I couldn't even try out the $7 kite I will never buy or go back there again. My son is 19 months so the $7 is just to have an experience with him. $7 is not much but it was the principal of the matter. They probably bought the kite from China for no more than $3 so they potentially lost a lot more customers than just me for $3. In the hospitality industry they teach us in classes that a bad customer experience is worth 10 people finding out about the bad experience. Well I do not work in the hospitality industry. I work in the Ecommerce field so when it comes to a bad review on the internet, that is out there for hundreds of thousands to read. Hope this was worth it to them for not simply being a little bit nicer when I was in the store. read more

We are residents of Lake Geneva and support our local merchants whenever possible. Labor Day we had a fantastic breakfast at Egg Harbor Cafe and left with two coffees to go. We made some downtown purchases with some local shops with coffees in hand. We made our way to the Kite Store and the lady behind the counter at this store stated that "sir you can not have drinks in here. " I sighed and then she stated that there was no whining either. I looked at her and said " then I'll take both out" thinking she was joking, she was not. She became aggressive and threatening and said that if a store has a no food or drink sign then it will be 400 dollar disorderly conduct fine. I laughed at her and collected the family, she followed us out of the store and continued to aggressively argue with us on the sidewalk as we were trying to walk away. We felt that she was trying escalate the argument into a fight. We told her she lost our business, she laughed and said she has been in business for 26 years. I stated good luck with the rest of your season knowing that Labor Day is the end and most merchants downtown reduce hours or close for a few months. Please DO NOT support mean and belligerent business owners as this is an excellent resort town with fantastic, honest and respectful merchants. read more
