I am not happy at all with AES , called them told them what i was looking for , very nice on the phone ,next day a man was out to look at the job every thing went fine. I do not use E mail alot so I requested that they call and let me know when the appraisal was submitted ,never herd a word ,when I got the chance to get into my Email I saw it was in . There was a few discrepancies that I wanted to go over .called the rep that came to the house and asked him to call me , never herd from him. by this time 3 weeks had passed. My wife called the main number to find out what was going on and we were told that our job was to small and they did not want to deal with the asbestos siding on my 86 year old house . Could have told me that from the begining and saved everybody the trouble, or at least a phone call explaining there action. Unreliable. Communication issues. We wanted work done on our home quickly to sell and make profit. They sent a man (in-law of the owner of the business) to give us a quote. He toured our home and said he would get back to us with a quote soon. He got back to us, but not with a quote, rather he came to the home again to talk about his real estate endeavors and wanting to help us sell the home. I asked again for the quotes. He said he would get them to me within a few days. A few days went by, and he sent me real estate info. with comparisons to other homes instead of the quote and then suggested that he come out a 3rd time. I told him no. We could talk on the phone and just focus on the estimate for now and then selling the home later. I sent him the number I wanted him to call me on. We never heard back. This is disappointing because we wanted to use this company because we heard of them on a Christian website, but now business is lost. We have now received an estimate from a contractor who only focuses on renovations, and not real estate, and is communicative. read more

We vetted 3 major local businesses that did bathrooms and we chose AES based on reputation and communication . Pricing was competitive and close with all 3 companies . Communication and response time from our sales rep Nate during our estimate time sold me on this company . We had a major bathroom renovation done that required total gutting . We needed a walk in / roll in shower in our very small bathroom for our disabled son . AES was respectful of our home while we lived in it while they worked . They kept dust isolated and cleaned when they were done each day! They showed up on time daily and worked seamlessly in spite of a few surprises once the walls were removed . The electrician and plumber were also very professional . Paul and Brian our main workers were amazing , the tile work is exceptional and we received so many compliments on it . The mannerisms and kindness with this company had us feeling like family and not just a customer. I would recommend AES to any of my friends! read more

I never even got past the giving of the information. This man claims to be a Christian. A much over used word! I told the guy on the phone my situation and wow what a surprise. Another Riceville guy used to getting what he asks for but not helping others who are really in need. That is NOT Christan behavior! I told him my budget and yep..sorry we can't help you. They'd rather let my house go then to try to help me. Sorry when you have what we are asking..then call back. I don't know why I was so surprised. Spoke to Marc Johnston about renovating my home. We set an appointment for a consultation. He doesn't show or even call/text/email to let me know he can't make it. We're able to reschedule after I get the hint twenty minutes into our appointment and call him. To be fair, he does apologize once I get him on the phone. Water under the bridge - we're back on track, right? Cut to twenty minutes before the new appointment. He calls to let me know he just drove down my street and wants to pass on the job. Says the problem is the street is too narrow and will cause him logistical problems. Well, by that logic none of my neighbors would have been able to renovate, and I'm sitting in the only non-renovated house on the block, so you do the math. Still, maybe it's a resource issue? Maybe I called the wrong type of contractor? I'm a first-time homeowner, after all. I don't know my ass from my elbows when it comes to renovating, so I should probably get some clarity so I don't make the same mistake with the next contractor I call. I ask how other contractors pull it off, and if he can clarify the difference between his company and those ones so that I know what to look for in the future. His response? He tries to dodge the question. No, there's no difference between him and other contractors, my street is just too narrow. I bring up the rest of my block....and he starts screaming his head off. Thank god that happened over the phone and I was able to hang up. Needless to say, I dodged a bullet. read more

AES was contacted to provide a quote for remodeling a sun room with all new windows. AES provided an astronomical mark-up on the worst reviewed, no-name windows on the market at a cost of 50K. With more investigation and knowledge, I decided to become my own general contractor, installing top-of-the-line Pella windows at half the cost. Buyer beware. read more

First, watch watch watch the person that writes the contract for the work that AES will do. My wife and I specifically asked for several things to be done on our home improvement project and the project manager promised us that they would do them, but he either omitted them on the contract all together or he wrote in small print that we didn't want them....... The guy even prayed in our house with me and wife and then he cheated us - wow!!!!!! As for the work, the work was really professional and I would use the concrete guy, the french door installers and the electrician again. As for the project manager, never saw him the entire time during the project. The only time that I heard from him is if he was trying to collect one of the incremental payments that was due to the company. Again, the work was good; however, the management sucks!!!! BTW, they are pricey too!!!! read more

And they are true to their motto, "We aren't done until you are happy, and if you aren't happy, we aren't done." The concierge service is tremendously helpful with picking out cabinets, hardware, the countertop, and tile...everything that makes the kitchen yours. I was looking to add a porch to the front of my house. Met & spoke at length w/ someone that ended up being a designer for AES at a remodeling show in Balto and showed him some "inspiration photos" of ideas we had in mind. Showed him two pictures on a phone with Photoshop renderings of our house with some images of different porches we admired added to the front of our house. The designer gave us his card and told us to call the company to set up an appointment for him to come out & measure & discuss the project further. On 2/27/18 we contacted the AES Customer Care & made an appt for the designer to come out for info needed for an estimate. On 3/14/18 at 3pm the same designer we met at the remodeling show arrived &took measurements. He stated that he didn't feel one of the ideas we showed him would work because the pitch of the existing roof was too low to add dormers. He stated the second "inspiration pic" idea would work he thought. He drew some quick sketches on his IPad to explain to us why he didn't think the dormers would work and we agreed. He also showed us a picture he had on his IPad of a porch project he designed for another customer.. We really liked it. He explained at length how he would build the foundation of the porch without having to pour a lot of concrete & the different finishes we could use. He was probably at the house for about 2 hrs answering our questions and explaining things. He told us he could produce a computer image for us of roughly how the porch in his picture on the IPad would look on our house. He told us it would take "about 2 weeks" to get the drawing and estimate to us. If and when we signed a contract, work would begin approximately 90 days later because they were so busy he said. He left stating he knew "exactly what we wanted" (his words). 2 weeks came and went and we heard nothing. I emailed the Customer Care Department on Friday 4/20/18 @ 12:52pm to ask how the estimate was coming along since it had been a little over a month. The same Customer Care Dept. person we set the appointment up with initially responded @ 1:05pm to say they would ask the designer to contact us as to when we could expect the estimate. I emailed Customer Service again on Friday, 5/4/18 @ 11:50am to say we still hadn't heard from the designer. The Customer Care Dept. responded @ 11:52am to say he will let the designer know we are expecting communication from him. (No apology for the delay or anything else, just that one sentence). On Thursday 5/31/18 @ 12:32 I again emailed the Customer Care Dept. to say "I am reaching out one last time in an attempt to get an estimate. I am hoping this bad initial experience is not reflective of the company as a whole. At 12:42 the Customer Care department responded saying "I will contact the designer and request him to contact you to let you know when to expect those mock-ups" (again, no apology or anything other than that one sentence). FINALLY on 5/31/18 @ 4:52pm I received the email below from the designer. He cc'd the Customer Care Dept. person I had been communicating with as well as the owner of the company. "I apologize as to any confusion with emails as I had sent you a couple emails a few weeks ago and then before that as well so I am replying to this thread. We had sat down and looked at your existing roof line and determined that because the original pitch on your roof was to low to add any kind of meaningful dormers and to connect a front porch based on that look. We felt it better to have an engineengineer look at what you want to accomplish and then do some structural drawings to get a proper spread and from those drawings (if it were possible) we could do a build cost and take off. The existing roof line was to low to present any kind of structural and finished look for what you wanted. Let us know if you would like the name and number of an engineer"I responded to all on 5/31/18 @ 8:06 pm. In a nutshell I said I would be interested in seeing proof of those sent emails because I never received anything from him at all. Provided exceptional service from the initial meeting all the way through the job. The estimator went through many options, design ideas and thoroughly inspected my kitchen & powder room as well as the water lines, electric box and basement layout underneath. He explained the process very well to me, as I knew what to expect. I decided to make a few adjustments after deciding to move forward, based on the estimators suggestions as well as the designers suggestion. They made the change in layout smooth and simple. They showed my the design on paper and on a design system. I never felt pressured to buy higher end materials or to do extra work. They simply laid out the options, provided suggestions and let me decide myself - which I truly appreciate. It did take a little while to get the work started, however, I'm so in love with my kitchen now i couldn't imagine going with my other estimate. read more
