I had an upper blepharoplasty (double eye lid surgery)- first one was botched- and second one has significant scars. Not only is he a horrible doctor, but he is a horrible person. Went to see Dr. Kim for my double eye lid surgery late last year. He came highly recommended from my mom who recently had a face lift done by this doctor. I was pretty impressed with my mom's results. She told me he also specialized in double eye lid surgery. My mom came with me to my consult with Dr. Kim. He was very friendly and attentive during my consultation. I was not quite sure what kind of lids I wanted. I just knew I wanted my eyes to look bigger but not a drastic change. I did not want those unnatural "doll" eyes. He showed me a couple of lid shapes and heights he thought would look good. Took a while for me to decide on what I wanted, but I appreciated his patience. Decided with a very subtle fold that would open my eyes, but you couldn't really see the fold when you opened it. I definitely wanted something very natural. The surgery itself was about an hour. The time seemed to go by quickly. I did feel some pain at certain points but it was short and did not last very long. It is a little painful when he first injects the numbing solution but the injections are very quickly applied. Dr. Kim was good about asking me how I was doing and if I would feel discomfort. Towards the end of the surgery, he will lift the chair up to check the shape to make sure it is even. He is very thorough and looks at you at every angle. Recovery time was not bad at all. First week there was some swelling. After getting my sutures removed my eyes healed within the next few days very nicely. He did tell me that my swelling would go down much faster. Dr kenneth messed up on my eyes twice so I had to deplete my life savings to go to Korea to fix my eyes. I spent about $10,000 flying to Korea and getting the revision. And also I went to consult with surgeons in ca and I got charged $750 at one place and $150 at another. So bc of dr Kenneth's work it caused me a big financial burden. I kno to some ppl flying to Korea is overkill but I could not afford any mistakes this time. Dr kim did incisional + ptosis surgery that in my opinion he doesn't know how to do, on me two times so I couldn't afford a 3rd botched surgery in America. I had to go to Korea where they are the best. And obviously they have places that suck too but just do ur research and ask to see before/after pix When I got surgery @ dr Kenneth's, he gives u the numbing injections when ur awake. The ptosis surgery was painful too like wtf But when I got my revision in Korea, they put me to sleep with propofol for the duration of the numbing injections. I don't remember a thing, zero pain. So different what happened to me at dr Kenneth's clinic. In Korea that is standard for them to be humane and put u to sleep for the excruciating injections. U can request not to if u want. But..... Who would? The injections are so intensely painful, unbearable pain. When I went to Korea ,one of the famous clinics I visited, one of their surgeons knew dr kenneth kim. This is a very long, overdue review! I received my double eyelid (incision method) + ptosis procedure from Dr. Kim in July 2014. Everything from initial consultation, actual surgery, and follow-up was very professional and smooth. CONSULTATION Before getting the procedure done, I did NOT go into the consultation with a certain fold/style in mind. I had complete trust in Dr. Kim and asked him to find a double eyelid fold that he thought would fit me the most. Since Dr. Kim has been doing this for years, I knew he would know best in terms of which double eyelid fold would be the most natural, especially as I get older. He was very, very thorough during this process. SURGERY The surgery could not have any more perfect! Absolutely no pain! Dr. Kim was patient and professional throughout the entire time. He took the time to continuously check the progression of my surgery by having me sit upright and opening my eyes. He did this so that he can see the shape of the incision line and how it complements my eyes and face. POST-SURGERY I had gotten my surgery along with my sister. Her swelling went down within 2 weeks, while I took longer--around 5 weeks. During this time, I made sure not to go outside too much, especially in the sun. I continuously took time to use an ice pack to help with the swelling. I also took time to practice opening my eyes wide so that the new line will settle naturally into the crease (the receptionist recommended I do this!). Overall, I am very satisfied with the results! Came for a consult to see Dr. Kim after a friend came here for her double eye lid surgery. He did such a good job on my friend's eyes. Her eyes had a natural look to them. Crease when she opened and closed looked like they were her own. Couldn't see much scarring at all too. I wanted to get mine done very similar to hers so she came with me for my first consult. My appointment was a little late than planned. I was a bit annoyed but he was sincerely apologetic for being late. I didn't hold it against him. He impressed me when I saw his other work as well as his genuine concern for my satisfaction as his patient. You know when you feel rushed in meeting and you feel unimportant because your doctor is getting ready for his next case? I had no such feeling when talking to him. I appreciated his professionalism and respect for giving me more than enough time to go over everything. On surgery day I could not keep my nerves in check but his staff were pros in taking care of me and keeping me talking about other topics. I was taken into surgery room and given local anesthesia. You're technically awake but numb. Anyone going through this the first time would be uneasy, but I trusted Dr. Kim and he talked me through each step he took. Another thing to mention is during the surgery he'll let you see the progress of your eyelid shape. Sounds kind of strange to see yourself in surgery, but i would rather see it before the finished product so I have peace of mind that it's done the way I want. My healing time progressed well. Though swelling was more than I anticipated, it goes down rather fast as the days passed. I had my medication for pain so no discomfort. Staff would check up on me to ensure I was doing fine. Got an amazing double eyelid and nose surgery with Dr. Kim. I got them on two separate occasions and the results have been what I had hoped for. With the eye lid surgery I also had a slight brow lift. Just something to brighten my eyes and add some sexiness to them. It was incredible how tiny the change but dramatic the outcome. I looked so much less grumpy. For the eye lids I wanted a small visible crease when I opened my eyes. Putting on makeup has never been more fun as I can see more of a dramatic result with a small crease showing. Been changing up my makeup looks a lot and having more fun with it. It's been 3 months since I had my incisional double eyelid and ptosis surgery with Dr Kim. Words can't express how regret I am. I still can't believe this is happening to me. I even CANCELED MY WEDDING because my eyes are botched. Dr Kim ruined my eyes and my life. I wanted to use non-incisional method but Dr Kim convinced me to use incisional method. He made me believe that I had sleepy eyes need a ptosis surgery. I was very worried about scarring,he told me there will be no scars,incisions will look like my natural crease line. What a lie!! The first surgery took 3.5 hours. It's was painful, I could literally feel EVERYTHING.During the surgery he was chatting with nurse in Korean. And the door of operation room was opened.His receptionist even walked into the room several times during surgery to remind him of his next appointment. How unprofessional!! After the surgery no one talked to me, he just left without even saying a word to me. My eyes looked weird after first surgery. Left eye was overcorrected,I could not close my left eye. Right eye was drooping. Kim told me to come back for a revision surgery. Kim didn't explain the procedure for me at all. He said, "it's easy,only takes 5 -10 mins." I thought the revision surgery was gonna be easy but I was so wrong. The surgery took 30 mins and hurts as HELL. Again, I could feel EVERYTHING. He even DROPPED something on my eye right after the surgery, when I was still lying in operating bed!!!After revision,my left eye had 2 incisions,my right eye was peaked shape and awkwardly pulled up. I could not close my right eye.Why have a revision when you can't fix the problem,and then leads to more problems. Creases are way too high,Uneven eyes,weird peaked and rectangle shape,bumpy scars.The result is totally the opposite of "natural-looking eyes" as Kim promised. (I posted pics) It's been 3 months my eyes are still very swollen. I can't imagine how much damage were done to my eyes/muscles.The swelling isn't going down. He was also very cold and impatient during follow up visits. It only took him 1 minute to talk to me and then he asked me to leave. I told him my eyes look weird,he was acting like it's not a big deal at all. Well,it is a big deal to me!! Choosing Dr Kim is the WROST decision of my life.I'm so so so depressed after the surgery,I get so upset every time I see myself in the mirror. I wish I could get back my original eyes,which are so much prettier. I'm planing to get a revision in Korea later,hopefully Korea's top-notch plastic surgeon can make my eyes look normal again. I can't expect too much tho. Sometimes, there is only so much that they can do after someone botches you...especially if it's multiple times. If I could offer one word of advice it would be to... RUN!!! Everything leading up to my ptosis w/ lid repair surgery with Dr. Kim was fine, I felt confident in his skills and knowledge and his staff was friendly although they didn't speak the best English aside from the receptionist. Anyhow, the surgery was done until local anesthetic and I have yet to experience anything more painful then undergoing this procedure. I've had countless tattoos and piercings that I would do a hundred times over but this surgery is something that I would never undergo with Dr. Kim again- even as he has offered to do a revision for me at reduced cost. He was extremely insensitive to the pain I was enduring, 2 minutes before he cut skin, I was alert enough to have the nurses undo my leads and I proceeded to walk myself to the restroom and they were all in shock that I was awake and unphased by the drugs. I heard them repeatedly ask Dr. Kim to administer more drugs as I was completely unaffected almost an hour after given the powdered packets to ingest. Anyhow, as he proceeded with the surgery, I could feel every cut, tug and the heat from the electrocautery he used to cauterize the blood vessels. All he told me was to relax and that 5 year olds routinely undergo this surgery with no issues and that I was overreacting. And yes, 5 year olds do undergo ptosis repair BUT it's with general anesthesia, NOT local and very RARELY is it even done with IV sedation. No matter what he will preach to you, this done to save costs and maximize his profit. So as time goes by, he starts yelling at me to stop tearing up and even stops operating to sit me up in my chair, proceeds to pinch both of my cheeks and shake me to get me to realize that I'm making it difficult for him to operate because my tissues are going to swell from the tear production. Like, really? I'm roughly 30 years old, educated, extremely familiar with the medical field and married to a physician. I think I know that regardless of my pain that I need to stay still so that no damage is done to my eye while he is operating and yes, if I could stop my body's natural response to getting stabbed and burned than I would halt all the tear production but that's just not how the human body works... After a few hours, the terrorizing is over and he wraps it up and escapes out of the room while the nurses get me ready to be discharged to my husband who has been waiting outside the entire time. Dr. Kim goes to retreat in his office/ backroom and does not say one word to me or my husband which is protocol. Plain and simple: surgeons go talk to the family after surgery to let them know how the patient did. He did not say a word or even call to follow-up with me. And when we went to his office for my routine check-ups he quickly pointed out that he would have to do a revision as my eyelids were extremely asymmetrical and still drooping on one side. When asked about the anesthesia alternatives, he refused to allow the surgery to take place at a hospital or surgery center where I could be looked after by an anesthesiologist. Even when I offered to pick up all the additional expenses, he refused and started to get defensive and pissy that I would even think about not allowing him to inject a weak local anesthetic and go through this all again. So here I am, awaiting to have a revision by a ocular plastic surgeon and not a general plastic surgeon, which I should have done in the first place. He may be good at other services in his office but this is definitely not one of them. The only kudos I would give to him is having a great marketing machine behind him and shelling out money for Search Engine Optimization so his business will always be promoted on the first page of Google and such. Completely uneven and ugly looking eyes after the double eyelid surgery here. I had a double eyelid surgery as my eyelids were starting to droop as I am getting into middle age. I had chosen him because his credentials looked good and the before and after photos on his websites looked good as well. During the pricing discussion, the business person who dealt with me offered me $500 off the surgery price if I posted a positive review on yelp. Hmm. However I decided to go ahead. I figured they were just trying to get good reviews. I felt that his pre surgery consultation to determine my eyelid shape was too rushed and he did not ask for my opinion about it, and he was more interested in my ipad that I brought (with photos to show him the eye shapes I wanted to show him). He did not even look at the pictures. Surgery itself was quick and painless. However, immediately I can tell the size of the double eyelid line were completely different and my left eye was an infold and the right eye was an outfold. For over three months, I had wear glasses or sunglasses to hide the eyes. IN the process of healing, there were a lot of problems with multiple acne like infections on the eyelid lines, and after a few months, the line on the right eye became less defined and fuzzy. By six months, my eyes looked OK from a distance, but up close, you can see how uneven they are. The shape of the left eye was a random rectangular shape and huge, and the right eye had a fuzzy line and small. I felt really bad having made a decision to do a double eyelid surgery because I had attractive eyes with monolid and had liked them until they started to age. At the end, I decided to go through a revision surgery in Korea, and I am so happy that I made that decision. It turned out to be a major work and costly since the doctor in Korea had to do multiple corrections including the balancing the size of the lines, making both eyes infolds, and reversing the overcorrected ptosis (which I had not asked Dr K Kim for) that had resulted in a slightly flipped up upper lid look. It took 3.5 hours to do the revision. It's been a month after a surgery, and it already looks better than it did 6month post at Dr Kenneth Kim's. It even looked good on the next day after the surgery despite the bruising and swelling because both eyes were balanced this time!! I really think Dr. Kenneth Kim is not a good cosmetic surgeon. I believe he has no sense of visual aesthetics and balance and skills. It is a shame that he promotes himself as an "expert" in double eyelid which the receptionist told me when I first visited them. Please save yourself from the trouble and look elsewhere if you are looking to get double eyelid surgery. PS: I just added photos, one day before the surgery and 3 weeks and 9 weeks post surgery. You can see how I went from a fairly attractive monolid eye to a monstrous and misshaped double lid eyes that required tremendous amount of disguising with make up to hide the uneven shapes and sizes. Never would I have thought botox and fillers would make such a difference. Friends have been getting them for years and I never understood it until now. It gives a refreshed lift to my face and makes me feel like I went back a few years. Now that I'm in in my late 30's I definitely want to take preventative measure against wrinkles forming so wanted to give this a try. Dr. Kim was very gently in the application and warned if I might feel some pain. Ok this doctor is the real deal. He was referred to me by my best friend Alice who has been getting her injection done here for her brows and crows feet for some time. She wanted a small lift and to get rid of her crows feet wrinkles. I've had crows feet most of my life. I'm naturally a smiley person and I'm sure it's partly genetics too. It is unfortunate that so many patients fell for his bs. I mean, with the eye drop test and all, He almost had me convinced that I had ptosis. After reading the other reviews, it seems that if you're Asian, you automatically have ptosis, according to him. Either way, why would you correct a medical condition such as ptosis with a plastic surgeon? Also, he was adamant that the surgery should be done under local anesthesia even though I told him I was more comfortable with the idea of general anesthesia. He seemed irritated at the suggestion. I can only comment as the person who was giving someone a ride to/from a surgical appointment here. And what I can tell you is that they were three hours behind, made us both wait and never informed of us the delay even as we waited. When we arrived, wouldn't it have made sense to say, "FYI, I'm really sorry, but your surgery is going to be delayed by a few hours." I understand delays happen, but THREE HOURS?! It was like the Twilight Zone and how greedy does a doctor have to be in order to book their schedule that way. It's simply unprofessional and offensive. The office is very clean, but I had to use my pants as a towel during this wait, as there were no paper towels in the washroom at any time during my 5.25 hour stay in what should have been a 1.5-2 hour surgery. I guess I could have told someone, but it was the one washroom and everyone uses it... I shouldn't have had to tell anyone. I had one eye smaller than the other and I really wanted to balance them out. After going to about 100 Doctors, I felt the most comfortable about Dr. Kenneth Kim. I was terrified of having something go wrong and I consulted with him about 4 times total. Normally, Doctors would charge or give attitude, but he was still willing to put up with my concerns. Pros: 1. Gentle and Compassionate Energy from Dr. Kenneth Kim 2. Patience. 3. Honest and easy going staff. They made you feel like you were their Friends and not a client. 4. Modern and beautiful Office Space. 5. Great Location- Middle of BH and Ktown. Perfect Cons: 1. I think Dr. Kenneth Kim can't say No to people and he over works himself. Sometimes, when I met with him he looked a bit tired and weak. I recommend going early in the morning, instead of evenings. So, far Im still in the healing process, but I think overall this was a 5 star experience. Girlfriend told me about this doctor. Heard great things about him. He did my friend's breast augmentation and it turned out amazing! So natural and barely noticeable at all in that we could not tell she had surgery. She came to see us literally the next day after her surgery. I decided that I wanted to book a procedure I've been wanting to get which was lipo for my neck and cheeks. They were slightly baggy and I wanted it tightened. It's basically this metal the rod that inserted under your skin that burns fat. I didn't feel anything , but could hear the burning fat. He did an amazing job. I completely regret coming here. My friend told me that this office is a franchise of a big and famous cosmetic surgery office that does the cosmetic surgeries for sm entertainers, therefore I decided to come. They were a bit pricey, but I wanted to pay for quality which I didn't get. In the beginning after surgery, I thought it was perfect until a year went by. Doctor Kenneth was supposed to fix my "ptosis" in me left eye but he didn't. I still had a lazy eye and a retarded looking double eyelid. He offer to fix it again. I decided to just fix that one eye and now it looks even more retarded. As for my right eye? It is small and droopy. My double eye lids were bigger before the surgery. And that's not all, my friend came to this place and she went through a nightmare. She had to go back and forth and get her eyes redone 3+ times even getting her eyes burned at one point. she said it was one of the most horrific experience in her life! For the amount I paid here I rather have bought a plane ticket to Korea and have gotten my procedure done there. Please please do not go to this office. You will regret it. Please see my pictures. Had a wonderful experience with Dr. Kim. Heard many great things about him from my girlfriend who did her double eye lid surgery here two years ago. She had gorgeous folds! They looked amazing and so natural. No scarring at all! I wanted to get small folds as well so my friend came with me to my consult with Dr. Kim. In the consult I brought photos and told Dr. Kim that I wanted small creases that looked very natural. He used this metal tool to create a crease on my lids to show me how they would look. I had many questions about the surgery process and recovery and he was very clear and articulate in explaining every detail I wanted to know from pain levels, length of surgery, post op medication and care etc. Really made me feel reassured and that I would be taken care of. On the day of surgery I was excited and nervous. Before surgery, Dr. Kim reassured me once again that everything would be fine and he would let me know what was happening. He always made sure to warn me if I would feel any discomfort. He applied the numbing shots to the eye lid area and warned me I would feel some pain. The pain was bearable though. The rest of the time, although I know he was operating, I did not feel it. Guess the numbing really worked well on me. After an hour, Dr. Kim sat me up to check my eye lid shape. He walked around me to see it at different angles. He was very precise. Once he was satisfied, he laid me back down and stitched me up. Note the chair is mechanical. He does no physically lift you up. Pretty quick surgery. Healing time was quite short. I was lucky not to have large amounts of swelling. Even after only a few days, my eyes looked pretty good for just having surgery. In a week I returned to Dr. Kim's office to get my sutures taken out. Quick and painless. The next days that followed, my eyes started healing nicely. The eye lid height seemed a little higher but I figured it was due to some swelling. I am a Korean American and I had a complex because my eyes were very small. After a couple months of debating about whether or not I should do an eye surgery or not with my family and my husband. When I finally decided that I should do the surgery, I searched for places I could get surgery without regrets. There were a couple of places nearby my area (Seattle, WA) but I didn't know whether or not I should do it. I looked on the Korean portal sites and found out that Dream Medical Group was very famous. I didn't want to go to Korea because that was just too much for a surgery. Then I found out that there was a plastic surgeon in LA grouped with Dream Plastic Medical Clinic. I knew that this was the place to go. The nurse I talked to on the phone was really kind and went over the prices on different kinds of surgeries. I chatted on Skype with the doctor a couple of times and he was nice enough to go over the choices I had with my eyes. On the day I got to the appointment with the doctor face to face, he talked with me for a long time and helped me understand why certain surgeries were appropriate for my eyes. Also, the nurses there were super friendly! It's been 2 weeks since the surgery and my eyes are starting to get in shape. The results are seeming great. If you don't want to regret your eyelid surgery do not go to Kenneth Kim. I've had double eyelid surgery and a nose rhinoplasty by him and it was the worst experience of my life. Lets just say, the eyelid surgery did nothing for me. Waste of money, time and I had to get it redone because it was uneven. Nothing he promised was fulfilled and my second surgeon that I went to get it redone by actually said that it was one of the worst eyelid jobs he's seen esp after showing him my before pictures. As far as the nose rhinoplasty. It was done under local anastasia and the surgery took hours. More than couple maybe triple the time it was suppose to take. I was in so much pain. I felt like I was doing raw with no anastasia at all because he wasn't giving me enough. I remember being in tears. It was the worst pain I ever experienced in my life and trust me when I say I have high tolerance for pain. Lastly, the worst thing about Kenneth Kim is his personality and the way he treats his patients. He presents himself as a doctor with high skills but the whole experience was nothing but unprofessional. All I can say is if you don't have the skills ATLEAST be a doctor that considerate of his patients. It's not all about the money. Plasitc surgery is a big life changing decision. Just had my first experience getting botox injection. It was exactly what I had hoped for. Had them above the brows and in the crows feet area. It did its magic. I look lifted and no longer tired. I am so happy my gf recommended me to him. He was very gently and he let me know when I would feel pinches. It was a bit sore but bearable. I am looking forward to my 6 month follow up. Expect some redness right after but it fades quickly. I definitely want to try some fillers next time. read more

I honestly don't think I could have chosen a better place for me. (If you want to know my conclusion, skip to the bottom) At first I was ridiculously nervous. How was it going to turn out? What if they make a mistake? Is it going to hurt? Can I trust these people. All the normal questions anyone would have before a surgery that could either change their life positively or negatively. I've always wanted a double eyelid and I know the majority of Asians with monolids do as well. It bothered me how I could never put makeup on properly, or that most of the people at my schools were white and I would often be compared. It eventually started frustrating me and stressing me out. For a few years, I began to do some research (which I HIGHLY recommend) and ended up finding Dr. Kim. His credentials were AMAZING! Plus he's had many years of experience which made me feel a little more relaxed. After setting up an appointment for a FREE consultation, I was able to ask all my questions and found out that Dr. Kim is a really nice and gentle man. I felt like I could trust him. My dad and I ended up driving from San Jose all the way down to Los Angeles for the surgery. While waiting for my surgery to take place, I got to know some of the staff and nurses who worked there. Two words to describe them: hilarious, sweet. They all got me to relax and I had a great time when usually before surgery I would seriously spazz out like crazy. Dr. Kim came in and starting making different folds on my eyelids with some thing metal tools. Contrasting to what some people may say, he actually does care about what kind of fold you want and what fold would be best. No matter how busy he is, he never got distracted and always stayed focused which is something I really look for in my doctors. I got the Upper Blepharoplasty and Epicanthoplasty with the Dynamic method which takes longer than the normal method. The surgery took about and hour and a half long and the shots of Anesthesia were the only main problem for me. Other than that the whole process was totally fine! After the surgery, they gave me some orange juice and a couple of ice packs with a prescription for antibiotics. They told me everything I needed to do to take care of my eyes and that I was to return 5 days later to take out my stitches. Taking out my stitches stung a little but the nurse was being extra extra careful so it was fine and I was finally able to go home. CONCLUSION: It's been a while since the surgery had taken place and the results are already incredible! It is pretty much EXACTLY how I wanted it to become. My eyes look natural but much much bigger and everyone around me has noticed that I looked happy and more beautiful but they couldn't tell what was different! Yes. It will hurt a little but hey! No pain, no gain.(Also I have no pain tolerance. It's different for everyone). All of the people working there were gentle and took really good care of me. All I can really say is that everyone's opinions will be different and you are free to make any choices you want in life. As for me, I have absolutely no regrets. The one star I give is for the nice staff. I will try to not make this review too long. The first surgery I had with him was incision, epi and ptosis. The results were very poor...the crease was barely there and looked loose. I understood he was shooting for a 'natural' look but as a customer I wanted a little more depth to my eyes after spending thousands so he offered a revision. Big mistake. I regret going through with the revision but he was offering it for free and I wasn't going to let my $4500 go to waste so I went through with it. After the revision, I believe he took out too much fat since both my lids are hollow and form a triple crease. On top of that, the crease is still loose and not prominent due to the triple lid. When I addressed this, he said that your eyes start to get hollow when you get older. I was only 21 at the time. Although it is true that people's eyes get hollow with age, I do not think that addresses the triple lid situation properly. I went through with the surgery back when he was promoting the "4-year warranty." I am not sure if it applies now but I saw that he took it down from his website. Even if he offered to revise my eyes again I will not ever go to him again. I would be much happier spending another $4500 for another doctor. So now I am considering revision with another doctor, but I probably don't have much hope of fixing my problem since it has already been worked on so much. Other cons? Waiting almost 2 hrs for a check-up, the horrendous pain that from both surgeries, and barely getting greeted by the doctor. I truly hope this does not happen to anyone else. read more

After a lot of thought I decided to go with Dr Kim for my blepharoplasty. My sister had gotten her eyes done by him a year ago and I was surprised at how beautiful and natural her results were. I did extensive research on the subject- the actual surgery itself, what sort of complications may arise, what could and could not be addressed in and after the surgery etc. After consulting with Dr Kim the first time. he suggested the open dynamic blepharoplasty, epicanthoplasty, and the ptosis correction. As soon as I got home, I did further research to looked into these new terms. I feel like a lot of people here are confused by what the ptosis correction entails and what ptosis is. Most Asian people have some degree of ptosis in one or both eyes. This is when the small muscle in the eyelid that keeps the eye opened when it is relaxed. When the muscle is weaker and does not open the eye fully (ex. you cannot see the entirely of the pupil when the eyes are open/relaxed in the mirror) and makes the eye look a little "lazy/sleepy/hooded". I feel like a lot of women get confused about whether or not they have ptosis because they do what I did- put energy and strain on the eye to make it appear bigger and rounder in pictures. It becomes so second nature to do this that people don't it. After learning more about the procedures and understanding what the results would be, I got the surgery done in January. The surgery itself was very smooth- it was completed in about three hours from arrival to finish while under local anesthesia and mild sedatives. Anytime the pain became sharp or harsh, I would calmly tell Dr Kim who would give me another dose of anesthetic. He was always patient and kind about it. When it reached time to pull the muscle for the ptosis correction he gave me fair warning that there would be a lot of pressure and I braced myself accordingly. He talked me through any nervousness and jitters by asking me about my opinions on various topics and most of the surgery went quite quickly because we were having a conversation. When it comes to the pain during surgery- did it hurt? Hell yes it did. Its SURGERY. Of course its going to hurt. A sharp metal instrument is slicing into skin and muscle. Was it unbearable? No! I am not one to bear a lot of pain and I was just fine. He is a human being, as is his staff. If you are polite, calm, and courteous, he will treat you in the same way. Take what he says seriously, if he says "this is going to sting" It will sting. Be an adult and brace yourself accordingly. He was entirely professional and patient with me the entire time and I am very grateful. Now my eyes are bigger, brighter, and beautifully shaped. I am about 8 weeks post-op and very happy with the results so far. Whenever I have an issue I just have to call the clinic and they are happy to help me with any questions or concerns. And to address these negative reviews on Yelp, I have to say I honestly think a lot of it is cyber-bullying done by rivals or big businesses. For the legit complaints from clients, I have to say most of the issues they have seem petty and misinformed. Do your research on the surgery you want, and KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO. Don't expect everything to go perfectly and painlessly, life isn't like that. And most of all, go into things with an open mind and optimistic view. If you read these reviews and go in expecting to be "tortured" (seriously, the person who used this word to describe the surgery is ridiculous.) you will get exactly what you expect, regardless of how well Dr Kim does- its how the human mind works. AMAZING! I had done my research over the course of 5+ yrs, shopping around checking out 4 plastic surgeons who came in very high regards in Beverly Hills area, 2 were Asian specialty Plastic Surgeons. I was looking for a Doc who could help me age gracefully and not look like the Japanese version of the Crazy Cat lady!! I knew I wanted either an upper eyelid blephorplasty, ptosis and or brow lift. Dr Kim was easily and by far the best qualified. Super sincere, quiet confidence, and a great dry sense of humor , and the best of credentials. I spent this year going to him for botox for my jaw and the usual frown line stuff ( I purposely used that time to get comfortable with him and his staff since I knew I wanted him to perform the bigger stuff. at a later date) I am so happy with the work he's done on me. The office speaks Korean and English. And thank goodness for that! After all, they specialize in Asians so ofcourse that makes sense! I had my brow lift , ptosis repair, and the next day I was cooking thanksgiving dinner! My swelling was minimal and no bruising and I was back to work teaching pilates 5 days later. I was worried I'd be in pain post surgery, but honestly it just felt like I had a really bad eyebrow wax gone wrong! If you think his office is busy? Good! He should be!! I don't like to write bad reviews but this one is long overdue. During my eye procedure with Dr. Kim in 2013 he had under-anesthetized my eyes so I could feel his needle piercing all the way through my eyelid which was very painful. (Slightly under-anesthetizing is sometimes deliberately done to minimize swelling but he under-anesthetized too much.) I started to blink from the pain, which was followed by tearing from my eye ducts. Dr. Kim told me to stop blinking because that was making it hard for him to work. I explained that the needle hurt and asked if he could give me more anesthetic. He said, "Wow, your pain tolerance is pretty low, huh?" It was said in a patronizing way. As a surgeon operating on your patient you are literally wielding power in your hands. You are supposed to do what you can to try to minimize not only your patient's physical pain when possible but also be aware that your patient may feel stressed out while you're operating on them. After Dr. Kim performed the procedure and until they were corrected by a different surgeon in 2017 my eyelids felt and looked heavy because he made the eye folds too far from my lash line/natural folds. It felt uncomfortable and made me look unnatural and tired. During my initial consultation with Dr. Kim in 2013 Dr. Kim said that after the procedure the results could diminish or disappear and require a revision, but if it happened it would be further down the road - he mentioned for example how his mom had needed a revision later in life many years after her procedure. Fast-forward to late 2016 and the results began to disappear for one eyelid. I waited some months to see if the eye fold fading was temporary and might come back. Nope. I contacted the office of Dr. Kim in January 2017 and explained to the receptionist what was going on with my eye. The receptionist asked for my name then said she could not find me in their system because they had "lost" many of their system files including old patient files such as mine. The receptionist would not say exactly how my patient file went missing or where it went. Whether due to a security breach or disorganization, this is not acceptable for any business, especially one that has people's Social Security numbers and other private data. No explanation or apology was provided over the phone and there was no follow-up. The receptionist told me to text her photos of my eyes, which I did on 1/17/17. No reply via text, phone, or email. I did not contact the office again as it was proving to be a waste of my time and energy to deal with them. In my experience with Dr. Kim he neither delivered good results nor did he seem to know the meaning of good bedside manner/empathy. The office's mishandling of patient files and no follow-up is a security failure and highly unprofessional. I was misled by the good reviews I had seen for Dr. Kim; given my bad experience with Dr. Kim and other reviewers' negative experiences I am not convinced that all of the good reviews are authentic. In my research for a different surgeon it seemed that many of the best eye surgeons in the US are members of ASOPRS (American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery). Bascom Palmer Eye Institute also seemed to be something to keep an eye out for in resumes as it is the #1 rated residency program in the US. 20/20 hindsight I shouldn't have gone to a "jack-of-all-trades" cosmetic surgeon for an eye procedure but instead should have looked for an ophthalmic specialist. The surgeon who performed my corrective surgery has all of these top qualifications, is a perfectionist, genuinely cares about his patients and checks up multiple times to see how they're doing, and his office staff are organized and caring. It has been 4 months since this surgeon performed the procedure and I could not be happier with the results - my eyelids no longer feel or look heavy and my eye folds look natural. This surgeon went above and beyond what I expected was possible based on the initial consultation (scar tissue from a previous procedure can make corrective surgery more challenging). If I had known all of this before it would have saved me a lot of stress and time, not to mention expense. read more

I am Chinese and I had double eyelids, just small ones. Prior to half a year ago, the thought of doing the double eyelid surgery never even crossed my mind. I always thought it was a Korean girls thing, or a movie star thing. I'd imagined that it'd cost an arm and a leg, and turn someone super hot... who was... well... super not. My boyfriend loves the change. He says my eye "vocabulary" has expanded (he's so funny); I can now give him that superstar drawn-out sexy gaze, but on the other hand, can also shoot him a sharp and painful glare of death. MY WISEDOM TO YOU: 1. Must use Dr. Kim 2. It's financially doable 3. It's not a one-time surgery 4. Not painful 5. Months later... you're hot! And you know it. It all started with a close relative of mine who had, in my mind a "legitimate" reason for doing the dbl eyelid surgery. Together, we searched, visited, and interviewed half a dozen Asian plastic surgeons in LA. It's still kind of hard to say why we both felt Dr. Kim was the "right" one. His office had a lot of sunshine and it was spotless, and although we had to wait awhile for him to get out of surgery to see us, we enjoyed looking at his credentials (top of his Yale med class... dang!) He didn't talk much, and his voice was soft, but he had a very kind face. This was the one! I thought. I guess it was just a gut feeling. I normally wear the eyelid tape so I always knew what I would look like if I were to get the eyelid surgery. But it wasn't until finding out how financially doable the surgery was that... like in Inception... the idea of actually getting the surgery grew in mind. Of course I liked the way I looked with the bigger double eyelid that I constructed with tape each day, but more than ever, I wanted to look like that without the tape, to look like that the moment I woke up, when I'm swimming, etc. The surgery itself wasn't bad. I had anesthesia, and I could feel some tugging and pulling here and there, but no pain in general. I did the suture method. (I later found out Dr. Kim is the king of this particular suture method. No other LA doctor does this exact method.) Now, 6 months later, if I close my eyes, there is absolutely no trace of surgery on my eyelid. Yeah, it's that awesome! Dr. Kim recommended this Ptosis procedure as well. Truthfully I didn't want to get it done, and even after doing it, I regretted it because it made my eyes swell more. I regretted it up until the last few weeks of heeling when it seemed like day by day my eyes opened bigger and bigger, and I looked more awake; it really boosted the effect of having bigger double eyelids. Lesson to self... trust the veteran doctor. But beware ptosis requires adjustments. So you may need to go in a few more times. Lesson for you... schedule these adjustments for Friday. I always de-swell by Monday. Dr. Kim himself stayed true to our original expectation. Kind, soft voiced, very knowledgeable, but not very social. He's definitely not the type of doctor to hold your hand through the surgery, and may probably seem kind of cold or snooty. But he's actually just shy and not super social. I think he saw me as a canvas and just wanted to paint a really good picture. That's really all that matters I think. He reminded me of Dr. House, and I'm glad I got such a skilled doctor. read more

Surgery day: The nurses assisted me with all the necessary pre-operation preparation, and made me feel very comfortable. At the beginning of the surgery, I was given a local anesthesia, and I was pleasantly surprised because of lack of any pain during the surgery..., he was also very personable and spoke to me during the surgery. He asked me, and made sure that I was doing ok throughout the entire surgery. After I went home, the swelling was naturally there, but after about three days, the swelling started to slowly go down. The first day after the surgery, it was uncomfortable, naturally. About the second and third day, the discomfort was almost gone, and it was crazy how there was really not much pain at all! My lack of any major bruises nor lack of pain is an attribute to Dr. Kenneth Kim's meticulous and relatively non-invasive surgical skills, that puts him above his peers. Dr. Kim is extremely professional and diligent....right after the surgery, he was already making detailed notes regarding my surgery, so that he will be accurate on his comments and notes regarding me. As I was leaving, they provided me with nice two soft ice packs for my eyes, and offered a three month post-op consultation. Because of the nice experience, I wanted to go back to see the staff and Dr. Kim, but I never had to go back, because everything went very well. As days went by, my eyes look better and better, and the swelling went away ...I am so fortunate to have met Dr. Kim. I thank him for my confidence whenever I'm with people, and especially whenever I go out on a social event for the evening. Dr. Kenneth Kim is an incredible plastic surgeon and did a fantastic revision surgery on my Asian eyes. He performed an extremely difficult surgery with a wonderful outcome. Since I was 10 years old I have always wanted double eyelids (blepharoplasty). I started using the residue from transparent tape to create a temporary crease. This procedure was tedious at best and very temporary. After my freshman year in college I decided to do something more permanent. At the time, it was very difficult to search for a qualified doctor to perform blepharoplasty on Asian eyes since it was the pre-internet days. I used the phone book and searched for a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California; assuming the "doctors to the stars" would do a great job. This was a terrible mistake for several reasons: I was not able to get testimonials from his patients due to confidentiality concerns, the doctor was Caucasian and did not specialize in Asian eyes, and he advertised in the Yellow Pages. The outcome was disastrous. The Caucasian doctor from Beverly Hills butchered my eyelids and did a horrible job. My second year of college was full of embarrassment as I mingled with my family and friends and bared the stares of awkwardness. After over 2 years some of the swelling subsided but not considerably. My eyelids looked slightly swollen in the morning but by late afternoon would gradually become a large puffy mass and put pressure on my eye balls. This was due to insufficient drainage and muscle damage in the eyelids. I really did not think any doctor would be able to fix this horrible and deformed eyelid problem and I did not want to go through another major surgery. Come 28 years later I was planning to make a major career move and decided this would be a great time to investigate if there was any hope of looking more normal and attractive. I casually started my online investigation of plastic surgeons and their patients. Within several hours I decided to start a major campaign to find a plastic surgeon that could repair the damage to my eyelids. I started with yelp.com, then plastic surgeon websites (both in the USA and South Korea), soompi.com, youtube.com, and many other random websites that discussed blepharoplasty. After almost a week worth of investigation I narrowed it down to 3 Asian plastic surgeons that specialized in Asian eyelid surgery. I interviewed each one, starting with my first choice, Dr. Kenneth Kim in Los Angeles, California. After interviewing all three doctors, their educational and professional background, their experiences, and reading patient reviews, I narrowed my choice down to Dr. Kenneth Kim. Dr. Kim is an excellent plastic surgeon that can do amazing revision surgery. Revision surgery is very difficult to perform because Dr. Kim had to fix another doctor's big mistakes and create beauty. I was confident Dr. Kim could perform this intricate and difficult surgery because he is part of the Dream Medical Group in Seoul, Korea and has extensive knowledge in cell regeneration and aesthetic beauty. Not only did I have blepharoplasty revision surgery, I also had my ptosis repaired and lateral canthoplasty performed. A skilled plastic surgeon that understands aesthetic beauty is very important because the outcome of plastic surgery ultimately depends on the surgeon"s artistic gifts. Dr. Kim's surgery on my eyes were so well performed that I was able to socialize with my friends after only 1 month with very minimal swelling. I went to two parties after only 4 weeks and my friends did not even know I had surgery; they simply remarked how I looked so much younger and attractive: "Must have been the weight loss and fitness routine". Dr. Kenneth Kim was everything I could wish for in a plastic surgeon. His knowledge of the Asian body, his artistic gifts and surgical talents have not only repaired my eyelids but made them beautiful. He is also a very pleasant person and made my visits very comfortable. His staff is very professional and pleasant as well. I am very blessed to have found such a gifted and talented doctor.
